I wish I could have given this place a higher rating, as the food was decent. The restaurant itself wasn't the tidiest when we came in, and we could tell it had a nice design initially. But the service ruined it. We ordered to-go: half chicken, white ricex2, black&pinto beans, platanos, and decided to try a lomo saltado sandwich. $48 The chicken was very moist but not seasoned well; beans were also bland. There are better places nearby for pollo a la brasa for sure, and without the terrible service experience. The stand alone item that was pretty good was the lomo... sandwich(had no fries in it? so it was steak on bread). However, the two young people who were working 10/20/24 around 4/4:30pm were super rude. It was off putting to my partner and I that they were having private side conversations as we tried to order... like we weren't even standing there. Especially since we could both hear them talking about us in Spanish as we walked away-we're fluent. It was not polite. I was in the area and looking for a Peruvian chicken place. I actually arrived at this place by accident. I was trying to go to a different restaurant in the area, but I must've hit the wrong place on my navigation. I was a little skeptical when I peered inside because it didn't look like the dives I was used to seeing. This one looked newish and clean. There was actually some faux greenery on the back walls for decor. I didn't want to drive to the other place so I decided to take a chance and went inside. There were quite a few dishes that sounded interesting, but I went for the half charcoal chicken with two sides. For my sides, I chose the green beans and salad. After about 20 minutes, my takeout order was ready. The chicken was a good size and looked tasty. It had good flavor and the skin was crispy. The breast wasn't dry. It came with the standard yellow and green sauce. The green sauce had a nice kick and complemented the chicken well. The green beans weren't over cooked at all. They had a nice snap and were seasoned well. The salad was basic, but very fresh. Over all, I was impressed with the food. Although I did think the sides that accompanied the half chicken could've been larger. I would definitely go again if in the area. read more

RAÍCES PERUVIAN CUISINE is the absolute best Peruvian food my family and I have ever come across! We've been eating at this establishment for 8 years even after moving an hour away! We've tried other Peruvian restaurants around the DC Metro area and nothing compares. The seasoning on the chicken is second to none! Packed with flavor and cooked perfectly so the meat is tender and falls off the bone when you bite into it. The rice (both white rice and fried rice) is cooked to perfection every time. The mixed veggies are full of flavor and a healthy choice. My wife loves plantains and is very picky about them and she can't get enough of them. She has to also order some to go to heat up later or the next day almost as a dessert! I had the arroz chaufa at this restaurant. The Peruvian version of Chinese fried rice and a little bit beyond. It was delicious. I also had the Causa de pollo, ( lemony mashed potatoes layered with chicken and avocado. It's been a minute, but I believe we had like a causa sampler Chicken, and beef for sure. It was delicious. The staff was pretty friendly. The place was really clean, and our food didn't take very long to come out. I give it a 5 out of 5. Happy eating !! read more

I've been trying a lot of the peruvian chicken places in manassas and this place and suyo are my go to spots. When this place hits, it slaps. The problem is that it's very inconsistent. Pray that you arrive at the right time of day when your preferred chicken type (white or dark meat) is ready. Most of the time, they just have dark meat which is fine by me, but sometimes it's just white meat (bleh). Like I said, when the stars align, this place can be awesome. With the chef's blessing, I would like to marry their Peruvian Chicken Sandwich. Chicken is juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked and the sandwich has a variety of toppings that make it fresh, fun, and tasty. Thinly sliced sweet potato, mayo, lettuce, etc--just delish. It's the perfect size and comes with a side--I don't know why anyone would get anything other than their thick, crispy yet soft steak fries, but if you do there are plenty of options. I used to come to this place all the time, but 8/27 was my last day. I was so excited to get some food from here because I knew it was going to be good. I walked in and noticed there was a younger group working behind the counter that day. Usually, I always see an older group, so it was nice to see the younger group working. After I placed my order, I stood back and watched the workers prepare the meals. Everything was going well until I noticed that NO ONE was wearing gloves behind the counter. I would've been ok if they were staying in one spot and only touching one thing. But no, they were all over the place. Taking phone orders, going in the back, touching the cash register, and then coming back to the food. I asked the lady at the cash register if the two gentlemen who were handling the food were supposed to wear gloves. She looked at them and stated, "yes they are." She went to go talk to them. One guy actually put on gloves and the other guy pretty much said, "F you" (without saying it) and continued to handle the food without gloves. I was not pleased and asked the lady to please give me a refund. When the guy who didn't put gloves on noticed I was asking for a refund, he came over to help the lady as she was having trouble. This is by far one of the best restaurants in the area. My wife and I stopped here after one of our visits with our baby's pediatrician. Since that first visit, we went again! Honestly, we are hooked and since it is around the corner of our baby's pediatrician, we will be frequenting this establishment fairly often moving forward. The portion size of the different entrees offered is generous and the taste of the food always hit the spot. Everything also is reasonably priced. Staff members are very friendly and responsive despite their limited English. There is not anything particular about the dining area but I don't go for the decorations, I go to places for the food. read more

Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff was very friendly and the service was so fast! I called in an order and it was ready within 10 minutes. I have never ordered from here before and was really craving lomo saltado and it was phenomenal! Food was very hot and fresh but Ben I picked it up. The staff was really friendly and helped me very quickly. Great service. The restaurant is kind of small inside but the ambience was very cute. They had every table filled when I went inside for my pickup order. Will definitely return. My only negative comment would probably be that their to go containers are not the most secure when I got home the bag was soaked from the juices of the meat, but I'm not going to let that affect the rating. read more

I called in an order for a whole chicken with 2 sides. Actually, originally I asked if they had a whole chicken special that came with drinks because I ate there recently and remember seeing a whole chicken special that I thought came with 2-3 sides and some drinks, but the person who took my order said no. I ended up just ordering a whole chicken that comes with two large sides. My wife went to go pick up the food order under my name and called me because there was some confusion. I told her what I ordered to confirm with her and she said that the person there was saying it was two half chickens. Now obviously that makes a whole chicken, yes, but they get charged differently. I told her to get a couple canned sodas too but even then the order should've been less than what I was actually charged. I found out the day after that instead of charging me for the whole chicken price, they charged for two orders of half chickens which is more expensive. I was told the total was $24 over the phone and like I mentioned we added two soft drinks but even then should've been under $30. We were ultimately charged ~$34. As I'm writing this review too I'm noticing inconsistencies in their pricing. For example their online menu shows a whole chicken with 2 large sides for $22, but then the Spanish menu shows a whole chicken with 3 large sides and 4 canned drinks for $26 (that's the one I wanted)! Lastly, per customer photos of the actual physical menu in their restaurant, it shows the same special as the one in their online Spanish menu. That's the one I saw when I had eaten there in person a couple weeks prior which is why I asked the person who took my order like two or three times about it... Anyway simply put, I find it annoying when I order something I asked for, get something else, then get overcharged. This place is delicious! This is our go-to spot whenever we want peruvian chicken. Chicken is nicely flavored and the sides are always delicious. Price is worth it and quantity is great. We also decided to try something other than the chicken and got the lomos saltados, which was also delicious! Steak is nice and tender and flavorful and one of the few places I can get this dish. And of course, they have the green and yellow sauces, which they give a lot of without having to ask for more. Great service and great food. read more

I absolutely love Raices!! Was told about this place by my coworkers and decided to give it a try. They know I love my Peruvian chicken and am very particular about it. There are soooooo many Peruvian chicken spots in the NoVa area, and I have eaten at a ton of them. I'm always nervous because my expectations are so high and I know what I like and don't like about my Peruvian chicken meal. For me there are three main areas that PC restaurants need to nail for me. 1-The chicken (Duh...I know). I'm a white meat girl so it has to be juicy. Too often white meat ends up dry and tough. Raices white meat chicken was super juicy and the skin had a ton of yummy spices. Not overly seasoned which can happen. 2-The sides...I always go with rice and either black or pinto beans. You'd be amazed at how many places fail on good beans and rice. Such a disappointment when you take that first bite and are extremely underwhelmed at the flavor. Raices pinto beans are delicious. Paired with the fried rice it's a win. 3-The green sauce...I'm not a fan of the white but love a good green sauce. Their green sauce had great spice (maybe too spicy for some) but still had good flavor to it. Sauce is so good I always ask for extra, which they are not stingy about. Some places will charge an extra $.25 and are really stingy with the sauce. Not them!! This last visit I tried the pollo saltado which they have on their lunch menu $8.99. All I can say is WHOA!!!!! If you've never tried pollo/lomo saltado please try it. It is a bit heavy on the carbs, but it's sooooo worth it. The sauce they use settles into the fries, and is out of this world. When you get a bite of a fry, a piece of chicken, some rice, and onions...omg. For a little kick I put some green sauce on it. It's just such a good dish and they nail it. My one hold up on this place is the wait time. It tends to get busy during lunch hours. They do a good job with keeping food coming and the process of ordering and getting your food fairly organized. I believe you can call ahead, which I may do next time. Can't wait to try some of the other dishes on their menu. Been there several times and each time the Peruvian style rotisserie chicken, has been perfectly cooked and the white and green sauces on point. The beans are flavorful and the yucca crisply fried. Yes, the place is not upscale, but the food is why there's a constant stream of people picking up take-out. The people are friendly and service good. Usually order the charcoal cooked chicken with yuca. Chicken is fresh, tender and price is reasonable. Would highly recommend Raices. Food Quality: 4 stars Haven't deviated from the Peruvian chicken, as I have only ordered the charcoal cooked/broiled chicken with yuca and plantains. The yuca and plantains are average/slightly above average, but the chicken is VERY GOOD. Fresh, tender and never a let-down. I can't speak for the other dishes but the Peruvian chicken is the way to go. Service/Experience: 3 stars OK - average. I don't have anything great or negative to say in regards to the service. I was able to order my food easily and pick-up my order within 10-15 minutes. Plenty of parking space within the shopping complex. Was supposed to get bahn mi but that place is temporarily closed so passed by this place and it was busy. I got the half chicken dark meat with side of white rice and yuca. Also got extra side of Cole slaw to go. Checked to see the food and there was not much of yuca and I said something to the front register person and she wasn't that helpful. Got home. Tasted the food. I liked it however there weren't meat on chicken, not much of yuca and the Cole slaw I got large was not filled up. Paid $22! I liked the white and green suce the most.
