We came into the store 15-20 minutes before closing. We weren't greeted with a hello, just someone yelling across the store the we needed to sanitize our hands. Can we get fully past the front door first? Geez. All the staff were trying to clean up and not one person said hello, can I help you? NOT ONE. They all just looked at us like we were inconveniencing them. I even had my son double check the hours because I would not have wanted to be there right at closing. Nope we were good. We have a bird so I would have loved to buy a toy and some food from them but being treated like that, we just walked around quickly and left with not one person ever approaching us. You do realize that being a small business, you have to set yourselves apart. Why should I pay more when I can go to a big name store-because I am treated better at a smaller store, that's why. Welp not the case here. I could have been a customer for life, but I am not going to be treated like I am not even there. If I wanted that experience, I would just go to Walmart. read more

I Loved the Tropic Zone- absolutely worth the drive! I was very impressed of the cleanliness of the store, their inventory and selection of birds. I had recently lost a long loved parrottlet and was thinking about getting a new bird, the staff member i spoke to was very sympathetic and let me hold whomever I wanted to and walk around the store with them so I could get to know them without others (birds/people) around. We recently moved from out of state and were very nervous about finding a compassionate bird groomer for our parrot. I contacted Dawn at Tropic Zone many months before our move and we had our first visit yesterday. She was awesome and Jim the groomer was AMAZING with our fraidy-cat parrot. Nail trims have always been a very stressful event and the bird actually fell asleep during his grooming he was so relaxed! I am beyond amazed and truly relieved to have found Tropic Zone. This is the place to go for all of your bird needs!!! The staff and owner are always available to answer any questions from nutrition to housing to training your feathered friend!!! All of their birds are well fed and well socialized!!! The have excellent prices compared to any other store in the valley, and they make most of their bird toys! I have compared many bird stores on the cost of boarding my macaw, trimming nails, wings and beaks, and Tropic Zone is at least 50% cheaper with a staff that is 200% more knowledgeable and friendly than anywhere else I have been!!! Another big characteristic is that you can make payments on your supplies and bird here, and you can even take your bird for a home visit!!!! Also, the store isn't a drab, dirty, poorly lit, kind of smelly place like other bird stores I have been in. On the contrary, it is very clean, colorful, and all of the tropical decoration definitely makes you feel like your in an inviting place. I absolutely love this place! I go there every other week and the people are so welcoming! The rules with Covid are awesome and They're taking it very seriously but not too seriously. I got my birds groomed there today and they were AMAZING. The food is cheap and the toys are at a great price too! I honestly have nothing bad to say about this place! I bought my beautiful boy from this place. He's the smartest cockatiel I've ever had. I've never had one that could talk, but my boy can say dozens of things. He especially loves his name, which he repeats at least three times in a row so you can make sure to remember it. This is just an example of the quality of bird you can expect from Tropic Zone. My boy was a baby, and yes, I couldn't take him home right away. But the wait was worth it. The staff seriously love birds, and I think the extra care they give the fledglings create the wonderful characters that they grow up to be. Another example of how they are great stems from a visit I had there to get my bird's nails and wings groomed. I did not know that they did not groom on Sunday, but they helped me anyway. They even gave my bird some water and some treats to ease the indignity of his haircut. I'd recommend this store to anyone. read more

I absolutely love this store. I find myself chilling out with the birds on a good day and even to brighten a bad day. I obtained my pet Nov 2010. He has one of the best personalities I have met in a small critter. I take my sweet bird back to this location for routine grooming. He is difficult to get in a towel but these women never give up. He always looks great when finished. I love this bird store. They offer boarding for your little friend. I wonder if my bird misses being at the store with other birds. read more

Bought my parrotlet here. I was told it was a turquoise, hand fed baby. When I got it home it is very mean and bites anyone who tries to touch it. I called the store to find out how old it is and why it is so mean. She told me it is a year old and that they tried to interact with it but it "Just didn't take" to people. A year old isn't a baby and I'm doubting it was hand fed. The receipt says it is a turquoise baby. I was waiting for the color to change but it is a dilute. I'm stuck with a mean bird that my family wants nothing to do with for almost $300.00. When I called them their solution was to give it back to them for "rehoming". So you took my money and now I should give you the bird back to resale?! This is bad business practice and should be illegal. Also the bird does not have a band so I can not find anything else out about it. read more

I'm an adult and was talked to like an 8 yr. old kid for being outside of the gate and putting my finger out to a bird with no intention to pick it up or touch it. The worker said my hands need to be sanitized. Little did she know I had just done so prior to going into the bird store. I get it that there's folks who are over zealous and try to handle the birds in-appropriately. However, for someone whom owns two birds, I was offended at being approached in that manner. I won't return to that store, as i believe the worker was being snarky and did not need to approach me and insult me. I will tell all the people I know not to shop there due to the unnecessary policing of that store. Lastly, the person in the parking lot was friendly, but there again, the policing just before you walk in. read more

I love this place SO much! I fell in love with birds the moment I found them in a pet store. One day, I gathered enough money to cover all the needs for a bird and located Tropic Zone. Although it wasn't exactly close, I needed to go. So my father and I drove down to the store. I wasn't sure what I wanted, but my parents said no big birds. So I settled on a parakeet. The was a baby parakeet, all alone- but lively- in his own cage. I immediately fell in love this the bird. I found out I could "test drive" the birds, online so I asked if I could take him out to see him(we just guessed his gender). They set him against my chest and talked to me about all the basic information on parakeets. He climbed to my shoulder and stayed there for a few minuets. She then took him off my shoulder to prep him for travel and so I could pick out a few things for him. They gave me 10% off the cage I bought, along with a free pound of seed and millet. The people were so nice and knowledgeable. I will never go to another bird store/pet store ever again. Also these birds were all hand fed/ almost completely tamed. My bird learned step up on just his 2nd day with me. I recommend this place with all my heart. read more

I just discovered this place a few weeks ago and when I walked in, I was blown away. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the birds/food/toys, etc. It's such a treat to walk in there with all the loud beautiful parrots perched and fooling around in there. Great place for bird care and supplies. I would give 5 stars, but they breed and breed and therefore contribute to the tens of thousands of abused, neglected and homeless birds in our country. Great selection of toys for both large and small birds. My 17 year old Umbrella truly appreciates the variety. Staff are friendly and genuinely care about your birds. I never boarded my girl after an incident at a different facility where she came home sick. A family wedding and unavailable bird sitter caused us to have to board her and we came upon Tropic Zone. I needn't have worried. She was very well cared for and seemed to have loved her stay. I don't go anywhere else now. For toys or boarding. I have to say that this was our first time in the store on Saturday and they definitely earned our business. We have been researching love birds for awhile and have looked at many places but just felt rushed and not to sure. We came here and we are so glad we did. The prices were fabulous but the birds they had were either babies you can't take home or huge birds. The service was not as friendly as I would have hoped but that place was popping with people. They were out of sellable cockatiels. They save birds for which I admire and put them up for adoption and let you know their stories. I don't understand why they would let boarded birds just sit in view when they had a back room with birds and plenty room. I won't be back but go ahead and take a gander. read more

Dawn at tropic zone is one of the nicest people I've ever met. We went in with a newly born parakeet who was very weak because the parents didn't know how to feed it properly. What an awesome store ! Everything is clean and tidy. The first sign of a good pet store. Was visiting friends in Phoenix and on the way out of town needed a large collapsible travel cage. They had the cage and when I mentioned I was on the way to San Diego to pick up a Blue and Gold Macaw she loaded up a bag of food as a gift. What a nice gesture.
