Upon walking in, the place is beautiful and has a great ambience. There were maybe four tables with guests. One waiter and another person who was likely manager/owner. We waited probably about five minutes for anyone to seat us or even greet us. The two working up front looked our way multiple times but said nothing. A simple "we'll be right with you" or some form of acknowledgement could go a long way because we were close to walking out. The food was delicious, no complaints on taste. However, portions do not match the price. Particular the chicken shawarma wrap. $11 for a small wrap, no sides. Again, it was delicious but not worth $11. I really like how they have traditional Libyan cuisine in their menu which makes them stand out from other Mediterranean restaurants! We ordered the chicken shawarma bowl, Tunisian chicken plate, Tripoli's appetizer sampler, and strawberry lemonades! The food was amazing, and the chicken on my Tunisian chicken plate was incredibly tender and the strawberry lemonade was also delicious! The Tunisian chicken was flavorful and super tender. The gyro rice bowl was also delicious. My issue with the place is there were SO MANY house flies and phorid flies everywhere and they were getting into the food and my wife had to get her meal ready-prepared because of the bugs. The explanation was they have to open the doors from time to time because the AC is acting up. I do not find that a valid excuse because serious restaurants and grocery stores have fans blowing air downwards to keep the bugs out when the doors open. Thank you for moving so close to my home! Picked up an order for lunch today and my gosh it was absolutely heavenly. First, I ordered the falafel. I was spoiled by a local food truck's falafel but this was just as flavorful, just as pillowy with the perfect bit of crunch. I will always judge a restaurant by their falafel. Next on the ticket, their garlic hummus and pita. The texture was silky, incredibly flavorful. The garlic didn't take over the taste, no weird aftertaste. The pita was so warm and soft, mind you this was all a pick up order, with a good 10 to 15 minute drive. Ordered next was the main, the gyro wrap. I'm still going with a 10 even though the grilled veggies threw me off. I've always had fresh lettuce and tomato with a gyro but this was different. Not bad at all, definitely added a new flavor and still absolutely delicious. The tzatziki was perfect. Lastly, the baklava. Oh my goodness. It was the perfect end to an epic meal. The flakiness of the pastry, the nuts had a perfect balance of sweet and salty. It was incredibly sticky but I can blame that on a pick up order. Overall, the price for what the meal was? These bowls were more like Chipotle - small chunks of meat, shredded lettuce and tomatoes, barely any veggies that were just small onions and peppers. Every single thing I drank (vitmo) and ate (Tripoli sampler and lamb kofta) was 10/10. I've eaten at different restaurants like this one all over San Antonio and in my 20 years living here, this was hands down the best. Food is all good. But the service and Turkish coffee was bad. I don't mind getting bad food but it was the service!! Turkish coffee is usually very hot. If you want to add milk to it, it's hot too. I was given half and half straight from fridge. I noticed when I sipped the coffee after mixing. I told them the milk was cold so now the coffee is cold. Can you warm it up? I was told no. I told them but the milk makes the coffee cold. They said sorry for the mistake. Clearly I couldn't drink the room temperature coffee. They didn't offer to give me another cup or said anything. This is a hidden gem in the Alamo Ranch area that we need to support! I don't usually write reviews but i believe this one was warranted. From the moment you step foot in the place the ambience is so inviting. The place is very clean. The food is amazing from the first bite. We had gyros and the Greek salad and the Mediterranean chickpea salads and they tasted very fresh. We bought several desserts and all of them were exceptional. Our server Gian was very customer service oriented. It shows that the owners have thought of every detail to make this restaurant one of a kind in Mediterranean and North African cuisine. Tripoli's is one of my favorite go-to lunch spots in the city. The family-owned restaurant is located outside the Valley High Gate of Lackland AFB and serves up Meditteranean eats and drinks. They have a single menu that they offer all day long with delicious options for whatever you're craving. Half the shop is the grill/restaurant, and the other half is their coffee shop where you can sit, sip, and relax. Hands down my favorite dish on the menu is the lamb kebab rice bowl. All of their rice bowls have the same base and toppings, it's just the protein that changes. It starts off with yellow basmati rice, shredded iceberg lettuce, cooked diced onions, cooked diced red peppers, diced tomatoes, protein of your choice, and it all comes beautifully topped with their Tripoli's sauce (which you can order as an appetizer) which has a mayo base. Some other honorable mentions on their food menu are their crispy, falafels; creamy house-made hummus; and the fluffy, warm pita bread used for their pita wraps. On the coffee shop side of the house, their Cafe Arabias (hot or cold) are delicious and so is their Turkish Tea. A couple explanations about two of their menu items: - Calzones are more of a pressed panini with a Mediterranean twist (highly recommend) - Flatbreads are kind of like a Mediterranean pizza (also delicious!) BLUF: VERY tasty burger; other food also of hi-quality BACKGROUND: -avid foodie -experiences traveling in region SUMMARY: -Lamb-hamburger: amazing -green tea w/mint: amazing -very nice atmosphere & décor -we will be returning STORY: We tried this location due to San Antonio Burger Week as part of a 4-restaurant burger-survey, which was made much more doable by bringing a party of four. Of all of the places we visited, Tripoli's Lamb-burger was BY FAR the best. The spiced (not spicy) meat (infused with feta cheese)...along with their special dip, veggies, a more feta cheese...was absolutely incredible and set a very high bar for the rest of our burger-adventure which was not surpassed. Our experience with this burger was so positive that we opted to return later that week for another round wherein we actually had an opportunity to sit inside the restaurant instead of doing as we'd done before (taking the burger to-go, quartering it, and consuming it outside in the parking lot). Our decision to return was entirely-worthwhile: the inside had a very pleasant atmosphere, with décor that reminded me and my wife of our travels. Servers were very nice & knowledgeable, capable of offering us their recommendations when queried. We started with their green tea w/mint and persian tea. Both were good. My wife (who's a tea-guru) was especially impressed by their green tea w/mint...and I must say that I also thought it to be very tasty. We also opted to try an item temporarily on the menu for Burger Week: their Libyan Lamburger, wherein they do the regular Lamb-hamburger but also add egg, arugula, and harissa (house made hot sauce). The these items did kick it up a notch and you'll be lucky if they keep that on future menus. We rounded out the evening with a sampler tray of various sides (hummus, labneh, baba ganoush) which was also very tasty. All in all, a very worthwhile tripe. We WILL be returning. My family and I decided to go to Tripoli's for the appearance from outside that looked warm and inviting. I am so very glad we did! We were greeted by Jazmin with a big smile that made us feel welcome. The chairs were comfortable, the decoration was tasteful and the care for every detail was evident even at the restrooms. It felt as if were dining at a friend's home. We order the sampler with three dips. The hummus was delicious, smooth, and full of flavor as well as the garlic aioli and the labnah. All very fresh. My husband ordered the lamb burger which he said was excellent and I shared the gyro plate. The gyro meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The servings were generous enough to share and bring leftovers home. The owner was there and we were able to congratulate her for opening such a delightful restaurant.
