In the midst of what seems like a boom for microbreweries in Birmingham, TrimTab is the highlight for me (and my friends!). TrimTab has an incredible industrial-meets-hipster atmosphere that is beautifully decorated with local art and string lighting. The staff is as friendly as they come and you'll often find them socializing with regulars. They regularly have food trucks parked outside to order from, they allow outside food, and pre-coronavirus, they offered shelves of board games to play with friends. Keep an eye out for live music nights! This is all before even mentioning how incredible their beers are and the fact that they release small batches all. the. time. There's something for everyone on their draft menu at any given time. Personally, I've never had a sour from them that I haven't loved and I often love their pale ales and wheat ales. My partner loves their sours and their ambers, browns, stouts, and porters. I'd recommend Paradise Now or Martin Denny for a crispy, fresh, slightly tart summer beer if you're visiting anytime soon. read more

One of my favorite breweries I've been to! It's not huge but the atmosphere is sooo cute- they had different art for sale and it was all super colorful and fun to look at. We love sour beers so we built our own flight and it was awesome! They also seemed to have a lot cuter merchandise than other places and everyone was very friendly. Definitely recommend :) read more

TrimTab has been my favorite brewery since I turned 21 and got into craft beer. I live in North Georgia, so it's taken me a while to get myself to Birmingham to visit, but I finally got my chance this weekend! I stopped in around 1 on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There was a decent number of people both inside and out, but definitely not crowded. The brewery is dog and child/friendly. It's very open and has a lot of space both inside and out to walk around and relax. The bar is large but only has seating on either end. However, there is plenty of seating all around the brewery. The atmosphere is so fun and modern. It's very bright and clean. There's tons of merch when you walk in, which I wasn't expecting since they do not have an online store. They sell shirts, tanks, glasses, koozies, bathing suits, and of course beer to take home. I got to try a beer from the Gallery Series, All the Fruits, and loved it!! They also recently released a sour ale called Beach, Please that was very tasty. I sampled the Breakfast Stout and the Japanese Rice Lager and loved both. There hasn't been a beer from TrimTab that I don't love! Needless to say, I've always loved the beer, but going to the brewery and seeing how friendly the staff is and how nice the building is made me love it even more! read more

One of the best brew pubs I have ever been in. Just a really cool, laid back atmosphere. A place where you have plenty of room and can really relax. The owner was their that night and she was very friendly. Congrats on the baby on the way! The beer selection is not very big but it doesn't have to be. Trim Tab Brewing is a must visit brewery if you are a fan of sour beers. They specialize in sour and fruity flavors -- all their beers are top notch offerings in that particular style. Trim tab is my favorite brewery in Birmingham! You can't beat the beers, different types for everyone. If you don't like beer they have something for you also! Try the raspberry berliner weisse, it taste like fruit juice and will you you drunk before you realize it. Ha! The seasonal coconut lager is my favorite, delicious, light summer beer. They always have a different small batch going that is unique in flavor and imagination. Loved the vibe of this brewery! Ample outdoor in the sun, shaded and fanned outdoor and indoor seating which would accommodate most groups. The beer was top knotch here as well, with my favorites being the kitchen sink (New England IPA, deliciously hazy and citrusy) and a raspberry Berlinerweiss (very refreshing and fruity) which I forgot the name of. There was also a food truck (Rusty's BBQ this Sunday) in case you get hungry and ample parking. They also sell cans for relatively cheap here, so now my fridge is stocked up! I can't believe i'm just now writing a review on this place. I have to say this is my favorite brewery in Bham. The beer is delicious with their Raspberry Berlinger Weisse being my all time favorite. What I also love is that the flavors are consistent. You never have to wonder if the flavor will be the same twice. On Sundays they have movie day hosted by Doris the bulldog, also known as their unofficial mascot. They also have musical entertainment almost every night, even during the week. Their events are well thought out and heavily attended. On a more personal note, they were kind enough to let my husband and myself get married in their brewing room and were super helpful and accommodating in getting everything set up. I really don't have enough good things to say about this place. It's pretty much my favorite place to take the pups and go chill on any given evening. Two thumbs way up! read more

I've been giving a lot of 4's lately! Trim Tab may not have the best beer in Birmingham, but it is probably is the best venue with beer in Birmingham. I feel like the focus is not really on their beer but the setup that allows events to be conducted fantastically. I was attending an event called The Happening, which was basically an art and wine festival but with a strong yoga, spiritual, and indie influence. The vendors and items were wonderful to explore and I had an amazing time going back and forth between the live music in the gargage and the DJ music where the bar was located. The bathroom is not kind to nights that host more than 50 patrons. Both men's and women's bathrooms only hold 2 stalls. The men's bathroom had a consistent line for the entire night. Don't even get me started on the women's side. I even watched one girl get so bored, she bought food from the vending machine because the wait was so long. Dogs are allowed into the venue! They were so well behaved, pretty, and pleasant. However, I'm not sure how the venue would handle four-legged friends on a normal day. read more

At first glance this place was a bit sketchy. We walked down an alleyway/smoking section and wondered if we found the right place off 5th. Luckily we kept walking & found a gem behind the grey doors. Very hipster! I personally love the decor. Not stuffy, but inviting. Lots of space (at least close to 11pm on a friday....then again the grand opening hasn't happened as of now). Grand opening set for March 28th & 29th. Scheduled to have 8 beers on tap, food trucks & good times had by all. The staff was amazing...3 total maintaining all customer requests. Very accommodating, friendly and thankful to have our business. I was afforded the opportunity to try beers before deciding which to order. I'm not a beer snob yet and often have trouble deciding which brew will best suit my taste. I was pleased with my Rye Brown Cask w/Irish oak=YUM! Hubby got the nitro rye brown-creamy brew=good! Grand total=$10 (minus tip) Harris was a delight to meet. He is the founder of the brewing company & so personable. Loved his selection of musical tunes of the night. Had such a variety that encouraged folks to enjoy the atmosphere even more. The iPad cashier/dj options works well. I love the ambiance in this place! The decor is so cute with the dim lights and the disco ball. It is such a great place to socialize and listen to good music. I am not a huge beer fan but I did get the one that doesn't taste like beer. They also allow several samples for you to decide what tastes best. It tasted good, I don't have any complaints! Not a big drinker, but met some friends here the other day after work. There was ample seating, both inside and out, & plenty of parking. Nice atmosphere, full bar. Most people were at the bar, not too many at other tables. It definitely started filling up before we left as more people got off work and came in. I like the artwork and wall decorations. They also have a mini-stage in the corner, which I think would be fun to listen to some local acts on. Trim Tab is pet friendly, and several people had some of their furred friends inside. Only thing I didn't really like was the seats at the normal tables, but that's just being picky at this point. It seemed to be a great place. read more

I'm a beer lover and this place never disappoints. They have a variety of beers for whatever you like. Personally my favorite is the trim tab rye brown. The atmosphere is always cool and laid back. They have a patio and taproom seating. The bar area is average size with local art pieces from local artist that you can purchase. Bartenders are very helpful and will help you find just the right beer. Great they allow you to taste a sample before purchasing. HAPPY trim tab is in birmingham and part of the growing brewery business. Definitely check this place out of you love beer. They also have different events throughout the week. HOWDY Y'ALL!!! I couldn't fathom why I was so fricken thirsty this morning... then it dawned on me... its THIRSTY THURSDAY!! I moseyed on over to the trim tab to get all hopped on their DELICIOUS HOPS!! A little slice of Epcot ™ in this little eclectic, southern town if you ask me. First rounds on ME... love making friends with strangers (after a couple of drinks of course ;). After a few beers, I felt like I was truly drowning and my man behind the bar through me a flotation device HA (just the way I like 'em). This bewitching beverage beckoned me to the brink; sour up front and bitter on the back end -- I can dig it . All in all, the electric groovy ambiance reminded me of the good ole days in Portland (you know how it is) and the unique brews sent me all around the world without the outrageous prices of Disney. Delicious beer! The Pillar to Post is one of the best brown ales I have ever had. Their brews have gotten more interesting and creative over time. Recent interesting additions like the margarita beer and strawberry cream ale were totally delicious! This is easily my favorite brewery in town. The atmosphere is very open, but still small enough to be intimate. The ever-changing art installations are always fun and really enhance the vibe of the place. Their beers aren't cheap but it's worth the price, they're constantly trying new flavors and mash ups. If you're into sours, I think they have the best ones around! We come here for trivia every week and they always have restaurant pop ups and fun events. Trim Tab Brewing - Outside patio - Breweries Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

I swung by Trimtab for the first time on a Sunday. The brewery has a nice atmosphere, and is a little quieter and less crowded than other Birmingham breweries. They allow dogs which I love, and the interior is decorated with artwork that can be purchased. I get the feeling they update this artwork on a regular basis, which is cool. The beer was really good, and their raspberry Berliner Weiss was quite unique. The one aspect that disappointed me, was that they only had three beers on tap. The bartender said they had just taken part in brewfest the day before, and that the event had cleaned out most of their kegs. Still unfortunate that there weren't more beers to try though. The service was great. We'll be back, hopefully next time there are more brews on tap. UPDATE (July 16, 2016): We gave Trimtab another shot, and were greatly impressed with the beers on tap and the general atmosphere of the brewery. Immediately upon entry I noticed they had the 80s classic Tom Cruise film Legend playing. Bonus points for great taste in movies! As before, dogs were welcome and in abundance inside, which makes for a great beer-drinking environment. A local artist had provided new artwork, which added a splash of color to the aesthetic. They had five beers on tap, which was a great improvement from the two they offered on our previous visit. I believe our first visit was a random fluke. This brewery truly has its beer making act together. The beer is excellent and Trimtab is a great locale to enjoy it. I highly recommend this spot to all craft brewery enthusiasts. read more

Updated review. I must say after coming here a couple of time recently I have been pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the venue. They have added extra seating and provide a very chilled suarve vibe in the courtyard area. There are considerable more beers on tap including the helles larger which is perfect for the hot sultry summers in the south. Staff are more attentive and just overall it's been a better experience. I'm looking forward to seeing how this brewery continues to flourish. read more

So I have only been here a couple times, to be honest I kind of forget about them. But, accessing them from a different direction I realized they are only a couple blocks from Lakeview area which is actually a really convenient location. I have been there once for an event featuring food trucks and live music (Red, White & Brew Festival) and once on a regular weekend night. Beer (3 Stars): They don't have a huge selection of beer that I like, however the Raspberry Berlinerweisse is my favorite by a landslide. Has a little bit of sweet and a little bit of tart. Staff(4 Stars): Both times, one really busy and one not at all, they were really attentive to the customers. Red, White and Brew they were handling a huge crowd quickly and were friendly the whole time. On the slower nights they are able to take a breath, interact and offer suggestions based on likes/dislikes. Price (4 Stars): No complaints! They are on par with all the other breweries in the area. Merchandise (4 stars): Again, on par with the other breweries in the area. They have t-shirts, pint glasses, etc. They have a pretty cool logo that goes well with all of their merchandise. Also, they display artwork from local artists, and all of that can be purchased as well. Location (4 stars): Large seating area in the inside and huge outdoor space. They have a grassy area that they set up a stage for events (Music) and a lot of space for food trucks. Dogs (5 stars): Dog friendly!!!!!! Trim Tab is great! I'm more into "chick beer" than my husband, so this was right up my alley. My long time favorite is the Paradise Now, a Raspberry Berliner-Weiss. This was our first time at the brewery so I tried a flight of their other offerings. The coconut lager was not at all what we expected. It was much paler than other lagers we've tried, and I didn't taste even a hint of coconut. I also had the Purity and Obscurity, the Euphoria now, and the stone fruit beer, whose name escapes me now. It had vanilla in it, for sure. My husband had the Pillar and Post Rye Brown, and he said it tasted like a coffee stout. He really liked it! The seating areas are huge compared to other breweries, with ample seating indoors, in the actual production/storage area, and outside under awnings. They had a food truck there tonight called Paradise Chow (a play on their most popular beers name) and it was amazing! There was a resident cat and one guy had his dog, so it's pet friendly, and I bet bringing your kids wouldn't be out of the question during the day! Go check out this gem! read more

The beer here overall is not my go to beer, but I do like the Raspberry the most. The location is about 2 blocks from lakeview which makes it walkable from the other bars and food trucks regularly are on site during the weekends. They will have some small bands on site randomly and have a small patio area to socialize on. Local artists are able to hang their paintings on the wall for purchase which is a great thing for the brewery to offer and give back to the community. Yet another great brewery in Birmingham. I would much rather have the quality than the quantity around here... and Trim Tab keeps that tradition rolling. I have enjoyed their beers on numerous occasions in various locations. So I won't go into too much detail on those. Although I will say their IPA and Bankston 88 are superb. Overall the space is really cool. When you park in the front, you walk down a long narrow outdoor area with a lot of great outdoor seating and tables. The bar is really cool, and the rest of the area is very relaxed. There is a sofa sitting area and a small stage in the corner. The space is large and I can definitely see some future events in there. On the other side from where you walked in, there is ANOTHER outdoor space. Along with their already established beer, a great taproom accompanies those properly. read more
