About 3 years ago I needed to re-plaster my pool. I interviewed several pool plaster contractors. The sales rep at Trident Pool Plaster & Renovation was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable and their price was right in the middle so I went with them. A few white spots started showing up but nothing to noticeable, then more and more, now quite a bit, especially in the shallow end. I contacted Trident to take a look and see what we could do to resolve this. One of the owners sent his son out, took some pictures and a water sample. Nice young man, polite and professional. A few days later, I received this response denying any responsibility and some recommendations including acid washing the pool. I could not open the water test results so I took a sample myself to Leslie's to see what they were referring to. PH and chlorine levers were inline. Total Alkalinity was low. Calcium Hardness a little high. Cyanuric acid a bit high, not unusual when using chlorine tabs. Total dissolved solids normal. This is the response from Trident:  At your request, we came out to inspect your pool. Part of our assessment is obtaining a water sample and having it analyzed by Leslie's. As a result, your water analysis report is attached for your review. Because the water quality was allowed to become so corrosive, this is what caused the damage to your plaster. We cannot warranty plaster that has not remained consistently chemically balanced, as the report indicates.   If you have a weekly pool service maintaining your pool, I would highly recommend you select a better qualified service as your water should've been monitored and drained long before this sample was taken. We recommend monthly monitoring through Leslie's to check the health of your water in the future and to ensure the maintenance company is performing the services as you expect.    To correct the current issues, we would recommend you drain the water and obtain an acid wash. Because acid washes can damage the plaster, we do not perform them, but usually pool maintenance companies offer this service. Unfortunately, a pool out of chemical balance and the process of acid washing to correct the defects in it now, both void your warranty. Issues with Tridents response. They say the water is too corrosive and has not remained consistently balanced, "as the report indicates". Where does any report indicate water has been "consistently" anything? Water balance is a constantly moving target. They highly recommend I use a better pool maintenance service. I received my Certified Pool and Spa Operator Certificate (CPO) sponsored by Leslie's Pool Supplies in 2011. I built this pool over 22 years ago. My original plaster lasted over 19 years without a problem, this plaster is not even 3 years old. Acid washing is the worst thing you could do to a pool so I was surprised they suggested I have it done and that it would then void the warranty. Interesting. If my water is so aggressive, why isn't the whole pool affected? Why does the plaster in the spa look like brand new? Also, does aggressive water cause plaster to de laminate and come away from the gunite? After 19 years mine never came off. The answer is the installer working the spa worked alone. He took his time and did a very good job, I even told him so at the time. The other installers were over watering and over troweling. I don't really care if Trident honors their warranty, i never thought they would. They have already lost more than the cost of repairing the damage. I have since recommended other pool plasterers to people, including a well established pool maintenance company. I am a licensed General Contractor in Nevada for over 20 years and had never considered looking at Yelp reviews before hiring another licensed contractor. Now I know I should have. read more

Our cool deck around the pool is 19 years old and flaking. Also some tree roots lifted some of the concrete in an area. Trident came out, replaced the concrete and removed and replaced the old cool deck. They were great! Carson gave us a great estimate and was very helpful in the process. I have the initial text message indicating that, followed by me asking what that price would be only to have zero response. If this is your company or you're a manager, it just proves how completely incompetent and unorganized you are. This is beyond unprofessional. A quick response on yelp is about all you'll get with this company. I scheduled someone to come out for a quote, and never heard anything else one the guy came by. I text him asking if the quote was ready a day or two later and got nothing in response. I ended up reaching out to True Pool Service, they came out, gave me a quote and completed my job within a week. Trident on the other hand couldn't even get past trying to earn my business and I still haven't received a quote or a call back and it's been two weeks. Responding to Trident's response to my review, Scott continues to push his false narrative that my pool has not been properly maintained. This is nonsense. My pool has always been maintained by a professional pool company. But because of Trident's warranty, I switched to a pool maintenance company Scott recommended. The Leslie's report that Scott referenced happened under their watch. But that is neither here nor there because the delamination/bond failure/calcium nodule formation issue that I've experienced with Trident, which Scott refers to as "leopard spots" is not due to poor pool maintenance, rather it's a plaster issue, and there is an abundance of information online regarding this topic. The following is an excerpt from OnBalance, which is an online consulting group that deals with research into pool water chemistry and plaster issues: "Unfortunately today, some in our industry (primarily plasterers) will claim that faulty water chemistry maintenance is the direct cause of nodules. That is absolutely incorrect. High water hardness and high pH will cause a uniform layer of calcium scale throughout a pool surface, not in isolated individual spots (bumps). Service techs and pool owners should not accept the blame that their chemical treatment caused this plaster defect." The following is an excerpt from Pool Troopers: "Nodules can be sanded off to make the pool cosmetically pleasant. But they will begin to return within several months of the pool being refilled with water. To completely solve the problem, the pool will have to be replastered. Nodules are not the result of poor water chemistry or anything that might suggest that the water has been out of balance." These two excerpts just scratch the surface of the info that's online that Scott refuses to acknowledge. Scott also brings up an acid wash. The acid wash was done in March of 2024, four years after Trident's defective plaster job, not on a "newly finished pool" as Scott suggested. It was done while the pool was drained for a second time in order to scrape off the nodules. The pool was not drained to rectify any so-called chemical imbalance. And unfortunately, the nodules grew back within months and grew back even larger. They have not become inert as Scott continues to claim will eventually happen. And the "third-party" company that Scott referenced that did the acid wash was recommended by the pool maintenance company Scott suggested I use, the same pool maintenance company that suggested I contact the Contractors Board to come and look at Trident's plaster work, which I did; but unfortunately, too much time had passed in which to have any recourse over the defective work Trident did. Scott's offer to replaster my pool, at his cost, in order to fix his defective work is not an option for me due to the poor outcome of his first plaster job. Instead, I believe he should be refunding me money so I can apply it towards having my pool replastered by a reputable company. There are three such companies that I've recently gotten estimates from. Each one receives an A+ rating from the BBB and has been in business a lot longer than Trident. I only wish I had hired one of these companies back in 2020. In closing, every time I go in my backyard and look at my pool, it makes me sick. I spent a lot of money on my pool renovation, and I am not happy with the results; and to have a contractor I trusted refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing on his part is beyond the pale. And, unfortunately for me, it's going to cost several thousand dollars to have my pool replastered for a second time in order to fix Trident's inferior plaster work. Just had our pool renovated by Trident and we are completely satisfied. From start to finish Carson and Scott and knowledgeable and provided us with all information and more to feel comfortable with the renovation. They were very communicative and kept us updated through the whole process. We even had landscape done by another company at the same time. They worked with the landscape company to not impeded each other and keep our down time to a minimum. Our pool was 20+ years old, we replaced the tile, replastered with quartz, and replaced equipment (pool and spa lights, pool pump) It only took them about two weeks and they were even able to offer us an upgrade option at a little more cost to have an app on our phone rather than the handheld pool remote. What a great experience! Trident was super responsive and made the process of replastering our pool easy and free of drama. I appreciated their communication. Carson explained the process thoroughly and professionally. Scott started the work within a couple hours of me signing the contract. The new tile looks gorgeous and they didn't leave a mess. Here's an example of their great communication: The first night when the water was being pumped from the pool, the pump would pop our GFI every 5-7 minutes. I was able to text with Scott around 9pm to arrange for another pump. I don't expect businesses to get back to me well after business hours like that, and I was pleasantly surprised at that interaction. They damaged the paintings on my pool deck. I talked to Scott Walker about it. He refused to fix it unless I had the touchup paint, which I don't have. He said someone painted over it. It was never painted over it. It was the original painting. He still refused to fix it. Very irresponsible business. Response to Scott's comments: Scott, I don't appreciate you twisting my words. We bought the house 20 years ago. Where do you get the 22 years from? Your crew didn't clean the pool deck properly because there were white chips from old plasters all over the pool deck. It is straightforward to notice. You can't miss it. All they did was rinse the pool deck twice. It didn't work because I could see the chips all over the pool deck. Finally, one of your crew bought a wet/dry vac to clean up the mess. It worked. Why didn't they do it in the first place? My pool deck got remodeled six years ago. I never asked you to redo the entire deck. All I was requesting was to fix the damaged spots. If I had touch-up paint, I would let you fix it. One of your staff used a harsh brush that ruined the pool deck paintings. Also, they dragged the buckets to move, creating scratches and damaging the paintings. It has nothing to do with the aging deck. You said someone painted over it. No one NEVER painted over it. It was original paintings. Since you are remodeling the pool deck, you should know where to find the paint that matches the deck's color. I am very disappointed in you because you refused to be responsible for the damaged paintings. You are using the contract as an excuse. Within the hour Carson called me and said he could meet me at 12.30. When I got home at 12.15 Carson was waiting for me. He listened to my concerns and to what I wanted. He then measured the pool and said he would get me an estimate within a day or so. He got me the estimate two days later and set up a time to pick out the plaster type and the tile for the next day. Within two days Scott texted me and told me that they were going to drain the pool the next day. After that it was nonstop work. Every day I would get a text of what was going to happen next. I hired Trident to resurface my pool. They went above and beyond and delivered at a fair price. Although we had a few misunderstandings I would recommend them for pool resurfacing. Although they do recommend replacing the tiles I choose not to because it seemed like my tiles had been replaced not too long ago and seemed in good condition. Trident Pools redid our pool patio surface, tile, waterfall and pool plaster...a full redo in our backyard in September/October. I did already write a 5* review but going to add an extra review for Scott (owner) and Carson (son). A family business that goes over and above when it comes to taking care of their customers. I was away for 10 days over the Thanksgiving holiday and my wife was home. A real bad windstorm happened the Tuesday/Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The pool pump wasn't working due to being all plugged up from debris/leaves, etc that blew into pool and got to the system. The system has an auto shutoff to protect it from such circumstances. I called Scott Wednesday pm before Thanksgiving to ask for a hail mary and he said he and his son would go over to the house on Thanksgiving morning.....unreal but true!! They found the problem, cleared the debris from the complete system and even cleaned the pool for my wife. I asked them how much for their services. Scott said nothing and it was on the house. This had nothing to do with the services I paid for this fall but they knew I was in a bind and went over and beyond. I can't say enough about Trident and the Walker family. My experience with Trident and Scott was pretty awful sent out bad workers did below average work doesn't check on his workers work to make sure the work is being done correctly argued with me about it sent a lawyer after me to get more money out of me after he was fired by me so I contacted the contractors board against him and his company and after they sided with me I heard no more. I did have to finish my pool on my own but well worth it found some really good people to do the work and correct the things his company messed up including having to re chip out the plaster because Tridents guys left to much old plaster on the floor and walls of the pool the new plaster company wouldn't move forward without re chipping the rest of the old plaster out said new plaster would fail if they plastered over what Trident was going to plaster over the top of it was considerable amount old plaster left behind by Trident and the tile work was really bad had to be redone 3 times by Trident. The other tile guy I found did it once and it looked perfect. 3 or 4 years ago, Scott redid our pool plaster, pebbletec, and tiles. He was promt, affordable, knowledgeable, and efficient. Unfortunately, a piece of the pebbletec that sits outside the water cracked recently. I contacted Scott, and he immediately sent his rock guy, Chuck, out. We decided that the best option for it to stay sturdy through the years was to add a medium-sized rock where the pebbletec sits outside the water. We have an older built pool, and these beaches crack all the time they are a nightmare to keep up. So the rock will help to cut down on the highest slope. Chuck was here every time he said he would be here. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The fact that I could call Scott 3/4 years later and he honored our warranty and came immediately is so refreshing compared to other companies here in the valley. We talked to a bunch of pool guys to fix our pool up. It was dated, chipped, the plaster had just about had it, and we had a leak somewhere under the tile. Lots of the other companies came out for estimates and then had the gall to tell us what we wanted and what we didn't want in our pool refinish. You won't get that with Scott. He came out, took a few measurements, carefully listened to what we wanted, then gave us options. When it came time to choose new tile he had the samples right on him for tile, grout, and plaster so we knew on day one what we were getting. The schedule waited a couple weeks for the holidays to pass, and then we got scheduled right after the new year. Chip out was done in less than a day, water feature we didn't like was removed and capped in about an hour, tile went in shortly after that in less than a day, and the plaster went in a couple days later, again in less than a day. Scott continually came to check on his team's progress and even helped me out with dropping off something at the city dump just because he was headed that way anyway. That's the kind of guy you hire when you hire him! They even left us some tile in case we had issues down the road, and matching grout. He even installed a new weir door for us that he had, no charge. Filled the pool back up and had BEAUTIFUL results. Couldn't be happier.
