Buyer beware: did not install fireplace to manufacturers specification, charged me for fireplace ducting they never installed, techs couldn't figure out the problem, not reliable...do not trust this company! Had them install a gas fireplace over 10 years ago and have had problems on and off with it staying lit. Have had their tech guys out several times but never solving the problem. Of course, they charge me every time they come out. They even said I needed a new pilot control gas valve for $1300 plus installation costs. Last year with the tech here we realized the flame was being blown out by a downdraft. They charged me $125 for that visit but refused to do anything about it. This year thinking there was an installation problem, with their tech here, we measured the distance as 7 ft 6 inches from top of the firebox to top of the exhaust duct. The installation instructions clearly state a minimum of 10 feet of exhaust pipe is required! (maybe the manufacturer knows what is required to prevent the downdraft?) Looking back over the parts list they even charged me for 12 ft 9 inches! (but installed 7ft 6in) It's bad enough I have had to do the troubleshooting because their techs couldn't figure it out. But their solution was to charge me $160/hour (including travel time) to install the exhaust pipe they billed me for but never installed. Buyer beware! read more

The bad reviews appear to be those who are looking for a cheap or free fix as opposed to just paying a reasonable amount of money to do things the right way, such as replacing an old HVAC that I just had to do at my office. My less than 3 year old Trane gas furnace was not working. I called TriCounty Services because they are the closest authorized dealer for Trane. Although the parts were still under warranty, I had to pay $125 for labor. I was told they needed to order a new motor. At least the motor would be covered by warranty. I was hoping they would have the part right away so we could heat our home again. I was told by Sarah at TriCounty that although this small motor was covered under warranty, I would have to pay an additional $425 for their labor in ordering and picking up the part. Sounds impossible, but she even sent me a quote that seemed to have been written carefully by an attorney. There was a full page of disclaimers stating nothing was guaranteed and there were no refunds. I decided that I could not afford to do business with this company. Instead I went back to my furnace to do some additional troubleshooting. I quickly discovered that the motor was not the problem. I simply cleaned fan blade housing. After reassembly, the system is working fine and our house is warm again. Be cautious if you are elderly and call this company. Charging $425 simply to order a warranty part is never ethical. read more

Very good craftsmanship by Nicholas W and Josh R. I heard about this business through our HOA reps and they have a good reputation so we decided to hire them to replace our kitchen fan duct system. We asked them to switch our 6 inch pipes for 7 inch pipes and were also hoping that they would expand the hole in the wall for the duct exhaust. A miscommunication happened between the initial assessor and the company so when the technician came to work on the vent, they simply took out one of the 6 inch pipes and connected a 7 inch pipe to a 6 inch. However, they listened to me and were also willing to fulfill our requests afterwards by doing an after service request. They did a reassessment, gave a new estimate (with some consideration for the service we paid for the first time around), and were willing to come back and do the job with the same technicians. Also, I guess the initial miscommunication wasn't too bad because I got to see a sample of their work. When I got home to see their work on the first job they did, I was impressed by the materials they used and their craftsmanship (I was actually thinking, "Damn... Nice job!" I unfortunately didn't take a picture of it), so I had faith that they were going to do a great job when they came back to do the job to our requested specifications. I am now happy to say that they did an awesome job replacing our kitchen duct system and they also added a little extra touch at the end of our exhaust duct to cover up the hole when the fan is not in use. I am so grateful for this company's professionalism and excellent work despite my struggles to stay composed when things didn't go my way and I hope they will be willing to work with me again. TriCounty Services is NOT THE COMPANY TO CALL FOR FIXING YOUR FIREPLACE! I was referred to this company for an urgent gas fireplace repair need. They assured me they could get the Pilot Assembly I needed and install it the next day. Cost? $1200!!! BUT, I was in a pinch to have it working for my short term rental guest who would not be happy without it working given the unusually cold weather report, so despite the fact that I had another quote for half that amount I agreed. Then when the technician came out he said I also needed the Gas Valve replaced, they gave me another quote, $1500. Okay, $300 more, not too bad for the extra part I thought and I needed it fixed ASAP for a paying guest's satisfaction. BUT NO!!! IT WAS AN ADDITIONAL $1500!!!!!! $2700!!!!! for a Piot Assembly and a Gas Valve (gas valve was not confirmed to be the problem by other technicians who looked at it.) I was assured the extra costs was for EXPEDITED shipping and warranty besides the part and the labor. When I asked for an itemized list of charges, over and over again I was told, "Our system does not allow us to provide itemized charges." Still, I needed the parts and installation ASAP so we bartered for a $200 discount. Great, the fireplace will be fixed at least withing two days with the expidited shipping, right? WRONG!!!! the Pilot Assembly part arrived in time to fix it the next day, but the Gas Valve (we were told would arrive the next day at the latest the following day a Friday) did not arrive in time for our guest to enjoy the fireplace. NOPE, it didn't arrive until the guest had left. When they called to arrage the installation of the Pilot Assembly and the Gas Valve that finally arrived, again, I asked for an itemized explanation of the charges and was told the same thing, "Our system does not allow us to give an itemized list of the charges." Then I was told, since they had the parts, what could they do to come out and install the parts for me. First I gave them a price I could be satisfied with, but after reading the other reviews (I should have read them first!) I decided I CAN NOT TRUST Tri County Services and cancelled all of the work. The stress they caused me and my guest with scheduling time frames to complete the work, changing the day/times because the part didn't come and then not being fixed at all in the time frame needed WAS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE!!! I CHOSE TO PAY 1/3 THE THEIR QUOTED COST WITH A COMPANY AND TECHNICIAN I CAN TRUST. THE PILOT ASSEMBLY AND GAS VALVE PARTS TOGETHER COST LESS THAN $700!!! ADD INSTALLATION AND MAYBE $900 MAX!!! Looking to replace a gas water heater with an electric heat pump (HPWH) model. First, it's pretty galling that TriCounty charges $125 just to provide a quote (that, to be fair, they will credit back if you go with them). They will give no sense, not even a range, of installation or equipment prices over the phone. But they are one of few companies I've been able to find in the Ventura service area that is listed on the 3C-REN and TECH Clean CA sites as participating in their respective HPWH incentive programs. It took a few calls to confirm that they maybe, probably, actually do participate in those programs (all the other local companies don't actually install heat pump water heaters). But I can't get any more detail without the site visit. So, I decide to take the plunge and agree to the $125 site visit as they are apparently the only local option for the local/state HPWH incentives. My appointment was for 8-10 AM. It is now noon. No call, no text, no email. This does not inspire confidence, and certainly isn't $125 service. I've met with numerous other plumbers/HVAC installers this week that didn't charge for quotes AND showed up when they said they would. read more

I called TriCounty HVAC Services for a representative to look at my furnace that would not turn on. The motor was on but would not spin. (It was jammed by a roof nail). Rep showed up he didn't bother to take the motor apart, just a quote to rebuild the motor since the part was unavailable (he said) because it was too old (part $650.00) He said it would cost me 4 to $5,000 thousand dollars to rebuild the motor and to replace the unit $10,000 to $15,000. I live in a mobile home. I called another reputable HVAC service, the part was online for $650 and replace my furnace It was $4,500. I don't like to be lied to and I don't like to be scammed by someone who thought he was talking to a DUMB WOMAN and would make a Big score on the money. I will tell my story to everyone. Tri-County Aire now known as Tri-County Services is a complete and utter incompetent, disaster as an HVAC contractor. They worked on my house in 2019 and 2020 and totally took what was a very simple job and turned it into an absolute nightmare. The basic problem was the dampeners in the ductwork were starting to fail as the house was 20 years old. Alphonso there HVAC employee told me that I needed to reroute the ductwork to balance the system. After charging me $2,110.00 and then two months later charging me $2,195.00 for changing the ductwork after which the system still did not work. They then presented a proposal for over $8,000.00 to install a new furnace. There was nothing wrong with the furnace and I threw them off the job. I obtained the services of another competent HVAC contractor who corrected the broken dampeners in the system which now works just fine. Just look at all the negative comments on both Yelp and Google and you will get an idea what type of a company they are! Do yourself a huge favor and have nothing to do with them or be prepared to be totally cheated. read more

After being recommended this company by my parents, I called them to repair the heating of our combined unit. I was told that a fan had to be repaired. I asked if anything else was likely broken, and asked if it could also be the electronics board. They said no and showed my a photo of the board from my unit. After replacing the blower for $1100.00, the heating still did not work. They then suggested replacing the electronics board for $1200 more without any quarantine that it would work. The rheem unit is only 10 yrs old. Unhappy that the unit still wasn't working with the prospect of spending another $1200 without any guarantee that that would work, and no refund or partial refund for the useless blower, I asked for an estimate for a new unit. Their bid for a 3.5 ton seer 16 unit was over $13,000.00 (which I included a $900 credit for already done useless work). This felt extremely high, so I got a handful of bids from other companies on yelp. NO ONE WAS NEAR THEIR ASTRONOMICAL BID. For these reasons, I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING. Initially the response time was perfect from getting a technician out to our house to assess our older furnace. We received several quotes to repair our old furnace and several for new furnaces. We decided to purchase a new furnace. Since it has been in the 40's in the evening, the company loaned us two portable room heaters to get us by until the following day. The new furnace was promptly installed the following day in a courteous and professional manner. We thought all was good. As a side note, the install was done on a Saturday. Come early evening, we found that the furnace was turned on and heating up, however no air was being forced out. Instead, we ended up with a furnace closet that was unusually hot AND the pipe tube going into the attic ducking was scorching hot! We called the company immediately but only reached an answering service. Since they, Tri-County Aire, appears to be paying for a human to answer calls during the off hours, I figured there would be emergency service available, or at least a call back from a technician. Instead, I was told that we would be lucky if anyone contacted us before Monday. Seriously? Why not save a buck, then, and just have an answering machine that simply states their daily operating hours (and days/times closed) and that calls would be returned the next business day. We proceeded to set the times schedule on the thermostat, and all of a sudden the furnace kicked on and started blowing hot air. This was around 8:30 or so. We figured it was a glitch but that all was well. We scheduled our sleep setting to go down to 68, which we have always been comfortable with. At 4am we were miserably cold and found that the furnace stopped some time during the night. At 4:30am I sent an email, plus completed the company's online contact request. No luck. At 7:30am we placed, yet another call and reached the answering service. They said they will send out another notice to the company. No luck. At around 9:30am we received an email apologizing and saying it's probably something minor and they will come out on Monday morning. They asked if that would be okay. I responded within an hour and stated that it is NOT okay and that we still do not have a [safe] functioning furnace. No luck. We noticed that the LED was giving an error message as well as other key info. This also adds to a loud banging noise that we heard twice the evening before. Seemed odd for what was presented to us as a quiet furnace. Lastly, the install quote and invoice (signed and agreed upon), includes: a city permit, a city inspection and a third party inspection of duct work. None of this was done, nor even mentioned. I would think a permit and inspection should have occurred 'before' finalizing the install and leaving what could [potentially] cause a fire in our house! I am extremely displeased, angry and am planning on tonight's adventure of sleeping with warm clothing and multiple blankets on. If it wasn't for Covid concerns these days, I would go to a hotel, but feel it's better to catch a cold than the virus! read more

Let me start by saying that the technician, Giovanni is AMAZING! With that said, after using TriCounty Services twice for the same issue I feel like I am being held hostage by selfish business practices. Giovanni came out twice to fix my fireplace. The first time he fixed it for the $125 trip charge and recommended a chimney sweep. The office sent me a quote that was so inflated I had a chimney sweep come out to do the work for half the cost. Soon after, the fireplace wasn't working again. When I called the office to have someone come out and look at my fireplace I asked that the $125 trip charge be waived. The woman in the office never got back to me. Giovanni came out again. He explained everything to me which I appreciated. This time it was a $375 cost to fix. I was okay with that until Giovanni explained to me that I still had to pay the $125 trip charge. I felt that the office is putting the technicians in an uncomfortable position because of the owner's unwillingness to work with the customer. Needless to say I paid $500 to have the fireplace fixed for the second time. I've been told that there are only two people in Ventura county who fix fireplaces. For that reason I feel like I am being held hostage. In my experience, a trip charge would be applied to any repairs that might be needed. Well that is true EXCEPT FOR FIREPLACES. I don't appreciate that at all. I understand that business need to make a profit to survive. I also understand that business transactions have an emotional connection behind them. Terrible. I Have an electronic remote on a gas fireplace that needed replaced. Giovanni P came out. The two of them informed that my firebox needed replacement. I immediately got a bad feeling. I replied that wasn't going to happen and I would be pleased if they could just replace the remote. They informed me they could replace the remote for almost $900 and because of the nature of the fireplace there would be no warranty for the work. This is for a part that costs about $100 on the internet. I declined. They called their office and said they could replace the part with a universal remote for $400 plus the $125 for the service call again no warranty. I simply could not trust these guys. I recently had a technician from Tri Valley to my home to diagnose why my fireplace insert would not keep the pilot light on. I bought the unit from this company and had them install it many years ago so I thought it best to have them service it. Big mistake! The technician diagnosed the problem as the unit needed a new gas valve and with installation it would be over $2,500 as it was a big job. He said they would send an e-mail with the estimate. After a week without the estimate I researched my problem. The consensus was it was a classic example of a bad thermocouple. I ordered the part and replaced it myself for under $100. It took about an hour. I contacted the company via phone and e-mail to complain about this mis diagnosis. I spoke with the manager and explained in my opinion, that either the technician was incompetent or trying to take advantage of a senior citizen. I was told the owner would contact me regarding my concerns. A week later not a word. read more

I was relying on TriCounty Services for months last year in desperate attempts to get my 8-year-old Regency fireplace insert to operate. My frustrations stemmed in part from the fireplace insert itself, but also with the fact that the same tech was never dispatched to my house twice, so inconsistency in service was sorely lacking, while I was spending a fortune in parts. When I voiced my concern, I felt like I was heard. I got Giovanni one time and requested him for every visit after that. That's when things started to look up! I decided to chuck the old fireplace insert for a new one, which TriCounty Services ordered for me. The insert took about 9 weeks to arrive (so I'll be enjoying it next season) and, I'm not going to say it's not pricey, but TriCounty Services offered a no-interest payment plan for me, and the delivery and installation was nothing less than top-notch white glove service. Four diligent, professional, courteous, service-oriented, and knowledgeable techs showed up to my home (including Giovanni) and the end result, albeit, expensive -- is spectacular. After we came inside to check the AC he looked at the inside unit and told me it is compatible with the new refrigerant and therefore won't necessarily need updating when it comes time to do the outside unit. I had an experience with this company that, I believe, shows one what sort of business they want to run...My heater was not running, so I decided to call TriCounty Aire to come out for an $79.00 inspection and assist me to get the heater running as quickly as possible...They sent out, Nick, a "very experienced" technician. He gave me a written summary of his findings which stated that "the indoor blower motor had failed" and that the cost to replace it would be $993.78 which would include a brand new blower motor, a new capacitor, and labor. He also recommended that I change out the entire heater for $4425.00 because "it might be time to get a new one". But there was something about Nick's overly familiar attitude and demeanor that sent up red flags in my mind. So I checked with a handyman that I have used and respected and he told me that maybe I should just change out the capacitor and see if that was the only problem. I then went to my local parts house and the manager echoed the same sentiment. So I purchased a new capacitor for $3.31, went home, installed it myself in 5 minutes and lo and behold, the heater started right up and is working perfectly as I write this. This common sense approach saved me $990.47. Since I would want to know (if I was the owner) if an employee had made such a grievous error, I called the owner, Shanna Nelson, to explain the situation. Instead she berated me and told me that, "Nick is one of our best technicians". If this is their best technician, I would hate to see the worst. I called back a second time and spoke to Britny Neumann and she told me that Nick had checked the capacitor and had found it to be fine. I was dumbfounded by her reply and asked her to please refund the $79.00 as the inspection was in complete error. I told her that I felt that Nick's recommendations promoted the sale of parts and services that would benefit only the company. She answered a very emphatic "NO". At any rate, it seemed to me that this company is very self serving and has no real interest in seeing that their customers are satisfied. It is very sad and telling when a person or entity cannot admit errors and make them right. Had they admitted their error, in a timely manner, and refunded my $79.00, I would right now be singing their praises, and probably adding 4 more stars to my review, instead of bringing these ugly facts to light. read more

Wow. First yelp review. Wish it could be positive. About a week ago, we asked Tricounty to service our A/C unit, which had installed it 10 years ago. The technician tells us that the original owner (the company apparently was bought by a new owner two years ago) made multiple mistakes that, to rectify, would cost us $675. He said it wasn't urgent, the A/C would work. First thought? Get a second opinion. Fast forward July 4th weekend, we haven't used the A/C -- now it's hot -- my husband turns it on and it's blowing hot air. He calls the number -- and probably obnoxiously angry -- tells the person answering the phone (I believe the new owner) that we spent $83 to have our A/C serviced, we turn it on and it's not working. There's no guarantee that the oil change will ensure that your car is in perfect working condition. Huh? Her technician supposedly gave our A/C a complete service and told us that there was nothing immediate that had to be done. Here's what she should have said: I am so sorry. I understand you're probably hot, tired and angry. How can I make this better? Kills me because I'd love to see a woman business owner succeed. Worst customer service ever -- from start to finish.
