This is perhaps the most fantastic client service oriented yarn shop I have ever encountered. In addition, the finely curated selected of yarns is unparalleled. If you are wondering about my superlatives, I have been to yarn shops world- wide so I do have many for comparison sake. If you are a novice or an experienced knitter, you will find exactly the right instruction. Try out the yarn before you purchase, get help with creating patterns, and enjoy community with like minded people around the tables. Whatever you are needing; you'll always feel good when you are there.

THIS is what they lost

Do NOT trust your beautiful & time consuming work to this shop. Well over a decade's work of work, & much of soul & life was with that piece - GONE. Took to this place for cleaning & blocking. They lost is. Never did take full responsibility - "oh we didn't get a tracking number & UPS can't locate. Oh - we can't find it." "Oh I know what goes into a work like this." NO - you don't know. Walked in to pick up a paltry sum for this loss - not a single person gave their apology. Also - they won't answer emails , even if you use the form on their site, they don't answer text messages & their voice mail is continuously full so you can't leave a message. I even called when they WERE there just to have it ring, pick -up & hang up. There are other, nicer yarn shops in Seattle. Use one of them.

This is my new favorite yarn shop in Seattle. I came in for needles and the lovely (I assume owner)…read morewas wonderful. the selection is a lovely mix of classic work horse yarns (Berroco, etc,) but also really nice hand dyed small batch yarns. I managed to leave without buying yarn, but she is holding two skeins until I get paid which is amazing. I am trying to stick to a budget and her holding yarn for a few weeks is so nice. It's my personal ritual to make a far(er)-flung trek to a yarn store outside the main city area…read moreevery time I travel. Acorn Street turned out to be the BEST yarn store I have been to. Their selection of yarn is extensive and very organized; Juni and Si was holding a trunk show while I was there. They have a variety of both local and famous yarn (ie Madtosh, Malabrigo, Berroco), and most of all, their staff is the sweetest bunch. But, but! The thing I loved most is the sheer number of needles and notions they carry: both singular sizes and also full sets from different vendors (Lykke, Chiaogoo, KP). You can spend hours here brainstorming a project and buying everything you need to start swatching. I bought some cute pine cone stitch markers, a skein from Juni and Si for some socks and an Addi needle (with which I'm already in love with and off to the races on a new project). Thanks, Mary and Janet! I will surely, surely be back the next time I am in town.

I can't believe it took me until now to check out this place! They had a large apparel fabric,…read morequilting fabric, and even furniture and other technical fabric, all sorts of notions, even a large yarn section and miscellaneous crafts. There were popular brands with a large selection from each such as Fableism, Ruby Star Society, Sarah Hearts, etc. I ended up with some gorgeous deadstock cotton seersucker, out of my comfort zone but very special. One critique is that their bottomweight and coating section was fairly limited, but I'm assuming that they were slowly transitioning into Spring/Summer choices at that time. Everything felt high quality and intentionally selected, not at all like the big box stores. Pricing was on-par with most independent stores - not cheap, but worth it. I hear that they have sales every once in awhile so I will be on the lookout. The day I went, it was absolutely packed! The parking lot is relatively small so you might have to get lucky or circle around a few times when you visit.

Always very disappointing when I have to do an update on a previously celebrated business. This has…read morebeen my go-to place since moving to Seattle in 2012. And I supported it wholeheartedly despite sometimes finding items slightly cheaper elsewhere. Additionally, as an art educator I always suggested it to my students for their value, as well as excellent and knowledgeable customer service. Unfortunately, I'm very disappointed to say both superb customer service and cost value are gone. Firstly, I learned from my students that student discount was no longer available. Then after my last visit, I was stunned how much the prices have increased. Still, I remained a dedicated patron. After coming home I realized one of the expensive wooden panels had a substantial gouge in the corner - simply too noticeable to try fixing. I confidently returned to the store but was told they would not take back the damaged items - because they couldn't verify it was damaged before my purchase. The associate was unbearably rude and dismissive. One my way out I expressed my profound disappointment with the current direction of this trusted business with another associate, only to have the associate I originally spoke with catch up with us. Now they changed their song, saying they could accept the damage item but I was very lucky because it's not something they always do. What?! The associate appeared to be making up policies as they went along. In the end I kept the damaged wooden panel, as I will keeping my business away from this place.
