I took the begin to sew series class and loved it! This was my first experience using a sewing machine. The class really helped me learn the basics of sewing. Since this class spans a few weeks you pick a project in your first session that you hopefully finish by the end. I was able to make a cute tank top with the instructor's help! Since the class I've completed a couple other sewing projects as well. I will say though that signing up for classes can be very challenging. The learn to sew class only had 4 participants (and with all the questions in class, I don't think they could even manage more than 4 at a time). You need to register for the class the absolute second registration opens or else you won't get in. It seems like some of the other classes aren't quite as competitive. read more

I've followed Wyldwood Creative on Instagram for quite a while so when I was planning another trip to Seattle, I made it a mission to finally visit the stop which is located in a charming part of Renton that feels like it's in the midst of revitalization, with other small businesses and cafés nearby. The shop itself is a decent size and well-curated, but I'll admit I was a little underwhelmed by the fabric selection - especially Ruby Star Society, which I was most excited about after seeing so much of it featured on their Instagram. Still, they had cute notions, project kits, plenty of patterns and hardware, and a fun, creative vibe that made browsing enjoyable. Fat quarters were priced a bit high for me (a "buy three, get one free" promo would have been amazing), but I still left with a half yard of fabric and a couple of fat quarters because, well, when in Rome err, a fabric shop - am I right!? I really wish I was local so I could attend some of their sewing and crafting classes which look like such a great way to build community while learning new skills! I would definitely recommend a stop if you're in the area and love small, independent craft stores like I do! read more

Such a cute and welcoming space! I took a beginner sewing class here and would love to go back for more classes. They offer a sliding scale to pay for the classes so they are affordable. It was a small group of 4 people. The teacher went through everything step by step and we had plenty of time to create the tote we were working on. They had so many fabrics to choose from. They had fat quarters for all the fabrics they had in stock so it was easy for me to pick all I needed without having to have small quantities cut from each roll. Prices are reasonable compared to California where I live.I'll definitely order from them and stop by the next time I'm in the Seattle area. Just took a sewing class with Steph and it was so much fun. I have very little experience with sewing so it's a great beginner class. I made a gorgeous flat-bottomed tote bag and Steph was so patient, informative and kind. There were only 4 students and she gave each of us special attention and help throughout our time. I felt so good leaving the shop that I was on cloud 9. It was like an adrenaline rush when you get a great haircut or score a deal. Honestly, better than therapy! I took the Columbia Quilting Class at Wyldwood and had a fantastic experience! The instructor was fantastic, the owner was super friendly and all of the makers I met through class were inspiring. They also have a beautiful selection of fabrics that are ethically sourced as well as an extensive pattern selection that is constantly being added to with more inclusive sizing. On top of that, Tawnee offers a scholarship program for anyone interested in her classes but unable to afford them, as well as donating monthly to support the Duwamish tribe and other social activism. I love that they prioritize independent designers, women, and creators of color in their sourcing. The most exciting surprise of all, though, was their small but mighty garment fabric selection! Garment fabrics can be hard to find around here, but they had three buckets full of absolutely stunning Merchant and Mills bolts when I stopped by. My wife has been crafting the past couple of years and I have always considered myself creative so I decided to take a shot at a sewing class. Signed up for the Make Your Own Tote Bag with nerves and anxiety but those feels were quickly put to rest when I stepped into Wyldwood Creative's door and started my session with Tawnee. She was very understanding that I was out of my element and was a very helpful teacher with a thoughtful approach, even with 5 others attending the class with me. I created a sweet tote with some unique fabric from her in store collection and learned that I can sew! Christmas gift and skill acquired in fell swoop! Not to mention all of the local businesses supported in the shop from birthday and greeting cards to paint by numbers and pins! I have never felt like I had the skills to be crafty. I was always jealous of those around me that had executed a Pinterest DIY to perfection. I wanted to break that cycle of thinking for myself and signed up for two classes at Wyldwood. I signed up to make my first quilt. It definitely seemed like a daunting task for me! Tawnee, the shop owner, was teaching the class and was very helpful, knowledgeable, and had a plethora of tips and tricks. I loved all of the unique fabric choices that I got to choose for my quilt. I also enjoyed the warm and inviting atmosphere of the store. Its definitely a crafter and wannabe crafters dream! I thoroughly enjoyed my time and successfully made my first quilt!!!
