I went here to get some beading supplies and I found what I needed pretty quickly. The prices are reasonable and there were several options to choose from. There was only one cashier but there were self-checkout machines so I was able to check out pretty quickly. I did come back to pick up an online order since I got a discount from ordering online. One of the employees asked me for my last name then told me to look at the pickup section to find my order. I did find that odd and a little less secure than I would like. That means anyone could have come in the store and looked at the last names on the pickup bags and told the employees that it's their order. Nonetheless, it has been a pretty seamless experience going to this store. I would def order from them again since the prices and options are reasonable. read more

Online ordering is pretty easy, pick up can be confusing if you cannot locate the 'button' for customer service. I stood around the pick up area next to the entrance and tried to find the button. The button was actually next to the cash registers, not close to the pick up area. Selection is quite good, most shelves are stocked. They always have something for the occasion or seasons. Coupons are a must search for before ringing up. Grab boxes did not seem to be available? Not sure if Michaels discontinued them altogether. Staff is limited as with most businesses nowadays. Apparently on line is not the way to shop at this store. Ordered something to pick up at store and it took til the store was closed for my order to be picked up. Tried again, this time I just sent my husband to store to buy, it said they had three of the item. He came home with two that were the wrong blade. I am frantically making last minute things for my grandsons first birthday. Before I send my husband back I call to ask someone to check and the person I spoke to said online is never accurate, I said that's ok but please just check shelf before I send my husband. He refused. Called another store twice as far from my house but they were pleasant and helpful. I will never shop at the Southcenter Michael's again, I would rather drive to another store for sure. read more

I'm remembering why I stopped supporting Michaels. From hit or miss customer service to not being able to find everything I needed to over priced items in cheap packaging.... Fabric selections being minimal to the cutting counter clerks being hit or miss rude or professional... I'm seeing why I went to online for most of my crafting needs but now and then I need to see what I'm getting so I get the correct item. They need to get better about disabling the alarm to the door shortly after opening to customers. More than once I've had it go off on me because somebody forgot to disable it. read more

Decided to go here to return my items and the return went smoothly. The guy (manager) and the lady helped me was very friendly and quick. Although my return wasn't the easiest they made it go by smoothly. The store itself was clean and had a lot of selections. Make sure to go here because they always have good deals for your crafts! I was visiting from out of town and decided to pick up some licensed character fabrics from this location. When I went to find someone to help me, the supervisor essentially told me that she would be unable to sell me fabric because she was short staffed and that she was making the decision to not assign anyone to assist me and that I would have to come back tomorrow to buy the fabrics. There were only two other customers in the store besides me, so it wasn't like tons of people were asking for help. I couldn't help feeling that I wasn't important enough to be helped because I was Asian. The next day I went to the Issaquah location and they were wonderful there. I truly hope that I was not turned away from the Southcenter location because of my race. read more

**Worst Michaels Shopping Experience** This is hands-down the worst Michaels I have ever shopped at. There were no employees available to assist customers. I needed help purchasing a pair of scissors that were locked onto the display peg, but when I looked for assistance, no one was around. With no other option, I took the entire peg off the display wall and carried it to the checkout. There was only one employee at the registers, so I waited in line for 10 minutes. When it was finally my turn, the cashier didn't know how to remove the scissors from the peg. They had to call a manager, which took another 15 minutes. When the manager finally arrived, instead of offering an apology or assistance, I was "scolded" for taking the peg off the wall. I was told, "Next time, ask for help and don't remove pegs--they're too hard to put back." Seriously? It takes three seconds to put a peg back. This experience was beyond frustrating, and there won't be a "next time." I'll take my business to Joann's across the street or Hobby Lobby down the block. Honestly, they should just be thankful I didn't walk out entirely. read more

I was there on Tuesday morning. Had great help from a knowledgeable man and the lady (I forgot their names). They really helped me find what I was looking for! Great customer service, which we don't get often these days. 5 stars to them! I am still disappointed in having locked restrooms. PLEAS, put a bell by the restrooms to get in. I've always enjoyed my framing experiences at Michaels. The staff is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. I have had many custom photos and jerseys framed and their selection of frame type and matting is endless. They always make it fun to get a custom job done. Having said that, their custom jobs are not inexpensive so make sure the piece of art is really something you want to display and not just hung in a laundry room or somewhere out of sight. Always make sure to go to their website before you purchase as they almost always have 20% off coupons online that you can download to your phone. My only other complaint is that they never seem to have enough checkers and the wait to check out can sometimes be interminable. Still, often worth the wait. read more

I like the Michael's chain for my hobby habit. They have sales and coupons on a regular basis. If you sign up for their emails, you will get a coupon about once a week at least, generally more. They have coupons on their app, too. This location is bigger than others. Like most retailers, seasonal stuff is in the front. There's a lot of cheap toys and add-on items at the registers and in the aisles. The service at this store is hit or miss. I've had excellent service from people working here and other times, I can't find anyone in the store or I am told no when I ask for double bags when checking out due to having to carry heavy items up three flights of stairs and not wanting brand new things to go rolling down them. read more

I walked in and I was slightly confused as I had a project and had never needed felt before . So I had asked an employee for some help. She said she would get someone to help me out with some felt to cut it to size for me . I thanked her and waited there ... for 10 minutes . I listened to 4 songs on the stores radio before I left . On my way out I saw the employee working the register closest to the exit . It was very apparent that she did NOT ask someone to help me at that point . I then went home and Bought the felt on Amazon instead , at least there I could order it and get it shipped . Now my project with take an extra 2 Days . I ordered an item online with the "pick up in store" option. I figured this would be a quicker way to check out but I was wrong! I could have gone to the aisle, picked out what I needed, and gone through the regular checkout in less time than it took for me to get the attention of someone in the pickup zone area to then go back to the back area to look for my item and bring it back - and then on top of that sign off on the pick up form! The problem is that the woman at the pickup zone was working in a framing order and only radioed for another employee to come over and deal with my pickup order after several minutes of me anxiously pacing about. I understand the dual function of the framing center up front that also serves as the pick up area, but it's no effective or efficient if customers can't just breeze in and pickup their online orders here. Next time I won't opt for the pay ahead online option - I'll just do things the old fashioned crafters way! read more

Third visit to Michael's this week, I had discovered joy in embroidery! ( If you're looking for a project under this category order Janlynn Set of 3 Gardening Birds embroidery kit). It's beautiful and you can only find it online. This location offers curbside and In-store pickup but I do not recommend. The wait for my punch needle to be prepped was greater than it would have been to find the item and check out with a cashier. I appreciate the gal who was at the register tonight; she took the time to sign me up for rewards. What was not appreciated or appropriate was the aggressive tone of the employees on the floor. My dad and I kept being asked if we were in need of assistance at every turn. It was uncomfortable and confusing as to why. It made sense two minutes later when they announced the store is closing so I got my threads and walked towards the front. We were again stopped by an older woman asking if we need help. I went in today and had the very best experience in the frame department with a lovely lady named Nicole. She was sweet, kind, knowledgeable, patient, and answered all of my questions in a timely manner. She made recommendations based off of the information I was giving her and guided me to the right choice. She was friendly with my son and told us about her son who is the same age. She's a gem. Keep her around. I'm not sure if she's a manager or supervisor or something but if she isn't she should be. I'm coming back just because of my experience with her. Way to go Michaels. Either go to another michael's store or use Amazon as customer service is severely lacking. While checking out, I gave the cashier (Mikayla or however she spells it) my number twice. She input it wrong both times, so I stated, "That's enough, let's go. I'll put it in here [the customer card machine]". She became terse, rude and was slamming the register and scanner. As I'm wrapping up to leave, she runs over to a co-worker (Kiley who's name tag CLEARLY states ASSOCIATE) and whines and moans about her interaction with me. Ok, so I go out to the parking lot to call for a store manager since this is beyond shitty customer service. (I've worked retail and I work in hospitality now so rudeness ain't it, chief). I am hung up on TWICE for calling. I'm still at the parking lot at this point, so I go inside to lodge my complaint. I am being told by Associate Kiley that she is the store manager (I doubt this. She's all of maybe 17 years old) and she laughs at my complaint saying I called her associate stupid. (I did not and anyone who has access to their CCTV system, if it has audio, is welcome to review the audio. I have NOTHING about my interaction to hide.) At this point, I told her that this chick should not be working cashier/retail if this interaction is something that makes her butthurt. I have already submitted a survey and I will be following up with corporate customer service on Tuesday. read more

Why are craft store employees so unhelpful? I really don't understand. This is a big store, they have a LOT of product. It seems organized in some sort of way, but I have no idea how that is. I've only been here twice, I don't know this stores layout. I asked for help finding an item (after searching for a few minutes for an employee). She led me to the completely wrong item. Then she said "oh it's probably over by the soap making stuff," pointed across the store, and then walked off the opposite direction! Like uh, lady, help, I have no idea where to even begin looking for soap making stuff - which I'm 1000% positive, again, that my item I'm searching for is definitely not over there!! She was the only employee I was able to find, so I was unable to ask anyone else for help. Prices are a little high, but they accept coupons so that will be helpful when (if) I ever make a purchase here. Long line to check out and pay. Ugh. Michael's is a great place to get your craft on! They have a serious amount of supplies for pretty much all of the arts & crafts you truly desire, including a large selection for you scrapbookers. The store's layout is definitely very odd and it can be hard to find things, but on the plus side you're bound to stumble across something you didn't even know you need and now you can't live without! read more

Product selection is good and prices are fair as many craft things tend to be costly. I wish they had more of a selection for cording (jewelry making) since I can never find the type I'm looking for. Their flat back swarovski crystals are extremely overpriced. I know they're expensive but it's just ridiculous here. You can get them for a fourth of the price at a bead store or online. There's loads of holiday stuff that's cheap. Petty much anything you would need for any craft project you're doing, you can find here. It's organized and pretty easy to find what you're looking for. You get greeted but that's about it. While passing some workers in the store they don't say anything, no "are you finding everything okay?" or even "hi." They have TONS of craft and art supplies here. This is an artists dream. I go to Michaels to get my canvas and my paints as well as other random items for projects, like tulle for tutus, and supplies to make slime. They always have some sale and I will make the 15-20 min drive from home just to get to get my pack of canvas and my paints. Their prices are okay. Seems like they only have 1-2 employees working at any given time, including manning the registers. Located in a busy plaza so you can get other shopping needs out of the way as well. read more

This review is solely based off the customer service of the lady at the check out counter tonight. She was rude and her attitude was uncalled for. Never have I been denied a return regardless if it's opened or used or whatever the case may be. I was returning two planner accessory items that was in perfect condition and in its packaging with my receipt. She starts to micro examine each item saying it's been opened. Yeah, so what? I opened it, I didn't like it, so I put it back. It's a plastic zipper pouch, that you could still sell since it's in perfect condition. I don't get what the big deal is. She then proceeds to tell me they don't take returns on opened items. First of all, I've never been denied a return for opening an item and the packaging was bad too. Why is she giving me a hard time when my returned items look practically new. I didn't appreciate the way she was talking to me and her tone was uncalled for. I wish I got her name but I left as fast as I could. She was a short lady with dark Carmel skin. read more

I do craft stuff as a side hustle, so I know all the michaels and Joann's in the area pretty well. I think this is the only one I've ever been to that has these annoying sensors. If you walk into the beading area, a voice loudly announces: "thank you for shopping the michaels jewelry department!" Same in the "fine art" department. There are also color monitors to alert you that you're being watched. Sometimes the alarms go off multiple times while you're trying to find something in a given area. Not only is it annoying, but it makes you feel like you're suspicious and unwelcome. Not exactly the fun, warm vibe you want in a craft store. The bathrooms are consistently gross. There was even an aisle in the store that smelled like urine over the course of a week (I had to visit three times in the same week.) What I find most frustrating is that many of the items are locked up. Rather than having a button in these locations where you can indicate to staff that you need help, you have to wander the store looking for someone. We had to wait ten minutes last time for the one single person they had available to help with this to finally get to us (after having to scout her out.) Then, they won't allow you to walk around with the item while you finish shopping, but escort you to the checkout with the item. Not one of the nicer Michaels. read more

Big box stores... sigh. I had traveled to a local craft store in Seattle where I live to try to find some navy colored card stock. Getting all the way there to find out they didn't have it, I knew my best bet would be at a giant megastore like Michaels. And don't get me wrong, there's a place in my heart for Michaels, for sure. But somehow every single time I visit this store I'm extremely dissatisfied with the lines and the customer service. While they stock every single thing you can get your crafty hands on, and you even end up buying 4x more than you needed, when you eventually get in line to pay and leave, you're there for what feels like an eternity. There are at least 5 registers in the store but only 2 people are ever open and staffed to managed lines. And as big as this store is and as empty as it feels, everyone checks out at the exact same time. It's uncanny! So I stood in line for a good long while just wanting to pay for paper and glue. It took me less time to get from Seattle to Tukwila than it did to stand in line and pay $12 for craft supplies that I can't find anywhere else. So Michaels, I guess I'm stuck with you. I was inquiring about framing and the lady on the phone treated me like I was dumb and incompetent for asking questions about pricing! It was really a horrible phone experience. I called the store to see if they carried a few particular paints I was looking for. It was on Sunday 1/18/15 at 2pm. The conversation started like this: Me: Hi I was wondering if you carry Golden Fluid Acrylic Paints Guy: What is it called? I'm not sure let me check Me: Ok no problem *about 5 minutes go by* Guy: Yep we do. Me: Ok great. There's a few colors I'm looking for could you see if you have them in stock? Guy: Ha wow really?. Yeah I guess go ahead (in a super snarky rude tone) Me: Um..Thanks.. Primary Yellow, Primary Magenta, Primary Cyan, Titanium White and Carbon Black. *5 minutes later* Guy: So we have the yellow, magenta but no Cyan. Me: They're the primary though? Guy: Yep. Just no cyan. Me: Ok cool thanks. SO...With paint colors theres not just ONE yellow or ONE magenta, theres a whole spectrum. My cousin went down to pick up what they supposedly did have only to let me know that they aren't primary they're Yellow Ochre and Quinacridone Magenta which wouldn't work with my project. I wish I had the guy's name but couldn't believe how rude and lazy he was to help. I normally would have Michaels be my go-to for craft supply but after this experience I'm never stepping foot in here. read more

This Michael's surprised me. It's a new building, so I expected plenty of stock. What I found was a store with shelves lacking but aisles overflowing. It was like they took all their stock and shoved them into the aisles. It was really unfortunate and made the store look really messy. I went in looking for pipe cleaners - found those super easy - no problem. And yarn was also on the list. But the yarn was something that I wasn't sure about because I didn't know what kind. So I went to the back of the store, where the yarn always is and it looked like a tornado had come through the place. The biggest problem being the crud in the isles!! After perusing the yarn area and finding some that I wanted, I stopped by the frames... just to check and then I was off to the dreaded checkout stand. No matter what state you're in - Michael's checkout is the worst. Thankfully! there was only 1 other person in front of me, so I only had to wait a few minutes. All in all it wasn't half bad, I just wish there wasn't so much stuff in the aisles. If there was a fire, there would be some serious issues. And buy some more stock!! read more

I love that you can typically find a 50% any item coupon online, and sometimes 25% off your purchase coupons too. That makes coming here very appealing! I hate that the only employees are usually working at checkout, so you have to bug one of them if you can't find what you are looking for. And who can ever find exactly what they are looking for by themselves in a craft store... I have fallen in love with the wood section. They have birch rounds that make awesome candle stands or coasters. They have big planks with bark in two sides that make great rustic canvases for welcome signs. They have precut boards with beautiful edges that can be stained, carved, painted, or you can burn text/images into them. How fun!! read more

Michael's has always been a second choice for me to Joann's when it comes to mega-craft stores. What with their dark floor, soul-sucking fluorescent lighting, and oppressive overflowing displays of fake flowers, it's hard not to feel a little icky after strolling through here for some creative inspiration. HOWEVER, their new location just a few storefronts down from their old one is quite the improvement. They still have an oppressive fake floral department, but it is no longer what greets my eye when I arrive so i can deal with avoiding it. They have a great, and improving selection of scrapbook gear, including some nice American Crafts and Basic Grey pattern paper value packs. Plus, the use of their 40% coupon makes anything on sale whenever you want/need it. While I save my indulgent pattern paper and embellishment purchasing for my favorite local scrapbooking stores, I come here for staples like adhesives, cardstocks, organizational tools, etc. Between their regular sales and their coupons, they can't be beat (except by Joann's) for stuff like this. read more

I liked it better when it was in its old location. I feel like this layout is confusing and not as organized as it could be. I hate coming here because the check out time is horrible. Coming from working 13+ years in retail, it makes me want to (imaginary in my head) punch cashiers in the face when they have no sense of urgency. Do you see this line?? This Michael's isn't that great. I far prefer the Lynnwood location to this one. The store layout is really cluttered. Aisles are cramped and can barely fit two people across at a time. This is worst experienced in the frame aisles - you can't even pass two carts by each other and it's impossible to look at the frames without backing up until you practically run into the other aisle. The staff seems generally friendly, but pretty much checked-out. They are present, but not engaging or even helpful. Today's cashier hardly spoke a word to me while processing my exchange. Awkward! On top of that, a lot of their frames are in pretty bad shape - dings, scratches, etc. And they sit on the shelf by the dozen. The worst is when they only have like two frames in the size I want...but both are ruined beyond belief. (This isn't a problem exclusive to this store, but it is especially bad at this location) On the plus side, the location is nice - fairly close to Southcenter Mall and in close proximity to a lot of other stores. read more

Pretty standard Michaels if you've been to others. I've heard their frame shop here is especially good at getting you a solution, but overall I would say this is just a decent place to get your craft supplies. This is definitely more on the crafty side and less on the fabric side, but I've been pretty happy with the selection here over the years. The layout is always confusing to me, and they keep striving to make it more confusing it seems. I just keep wandering the store until I find what I am looking for anyway. They aren't leaping over the aisles to help you here, but everyone is usually pretty pleasant and will help you if you ask for it.
