This Michael's isn't that great. I far prefer the Lynnwood location to this one. The store layout is really cluttered. Aisles are cramped and can barely fit two people across at a time. This is worst experienced in the frame aisles - you can't even pass two carts by each other and it's impossible to look at the frames without backing up until you practically run into the other aisle. The staff seems generally friendly, but pretty much checked-out. They are present, but not engaging or even helpful. Today's cashier hardly spoke a word to me while processing my exchange. Awkward! On top of that, a lot of their frames are in pretty bad shape - dings, scratches, etc. And they sit on the shelf by the dozen. The worst is when they only have like two frames in the size I want...but both are ruined beyond belief. (This isn't a problem exclusive to this store, but it is especially bad at this location) On the plus side, the location is nice - fairly close to Southcenter Mall and in close proximity to a lot of other stores. read more

I think that they only hire slow people or AARP members here. Not to say there's anything wrong with either group, but it does put a damper on your shopping 'experience.' The assault on your olfactory glands from the atomic fireball air freshener they have blasting is also a huge negative. Anyway, I'm only ever here if the better half needs miscellaneous things, and I am put to use with a 40-50% off coupon on my phone (go download the mobile app). There is no reason to ever buy anything full price here. I suggest they take a page from JCP's new branding strategy and try to salvage some brand value. Anyway, if you're a guy, go look at model cars/planes/boats if you're ever stuck here, that help you occupy a solid 5-10 minutes. After that, you're on your own. read more

I had a completely different experience from the other reviewers, because I don't 'shop.' So I don't care about the layout or the possibility of missing something I could have spent more money on. I usually walk knowing what I want and buy it, but in this case it was more of a treasure hunt. I'm making an Angry Bird schedule for my kiddo at work. I do some 1x1 counseling for the district and the only way to get my kid motivated is Angry Birds...long story, but I've been looking for Angry Birds stickers. I haven't found any anywhere and I didn't find them here either, but I did find a poster with the help of a staff. The lady was very helpful and gave me some ideas. I also found this cardboard piece that is inserted in the posters to promote the Angry Birds posters. I asked if they would sell it to me and because they knew what I was going to use it for the manager just gave it me. Very nice of them. I also found everything else I was looking for to get my crafty project done. Good selection of tools, glues, paper and other misc stuff that looked cool. read more

I am inclined to love this store because it's the closest I have to a drug dealer (I'm a big crafter). Cons: the layout of the store is craft specific. So, if you're looking for paint, you'll find it in 3 or more aisles depending on how it's categorized. An avid scrapbooker and a craft-a-holic, I've seen quite a few Michael's (and Joann's, and AC Moore's) and I'm just not impressed with this one. The layout is weird. Some stickers over here, Martha Stewart section of stickers over there. I don't like leaving the store feeling like I might have missed something, but I also don't like circling a store. I love the holiday things, and Michael's will always have a steady supply of felt, paint, foam, glitter, and glue. But I just don't care for this store like I have other locations. read more

I'm not a huge crafter, but when I need something even remotely creativity related, we usually end up here. Good selection of items, some stuff you wouldn't expect to find! They have basics for bachelorette parties, bridal showers, and baby showers! I found all that out within a two year period in that order too! We usually come here whenever the kiddos have a project for school, need a picture frame, or just some basic supplies. Plus, they usually always have a 50% off one item coupon on their site that I always use! Even if I'm just picking up a $5 poster board, I still use it! Shelves are usually stocked and clean, workers are not the best though. Usually a bunch of disinterested high school kids. That's ok though, I guess it gives me time to wander the store and find more stuff I don't need vs asking someone who answers me ummmmmmm...... read more

I'm a crafter and soon to be small business owner so I'm going to hit up pretty much every craft store on the face of the earth! I make jewelry, soap and I paint. I haven't made jewelry in some time but the bead selection looks pretty nice. I have noticed in the past that the pre drilled holes aren't always great and sometimes pins or thread are mission impossible to thread through! As for soap products I can't recommend anything. I started as a hobby through several websites but Michaels is junk. It's like Walmart/dollar store/insert any low quality associated business here. No matter what state you live in you can find way better supplies for decent prices! As for painting the canvas is of good quality and comes in a few good sizes. The paint brushes tend to shed on your painting no matter how long you've used the brushes! The paints are pretty good but I've only used one brand of acrylics. Depending on your hobby you may just be wasting time/money. Always check online first! read more

The Michael's in Tukwila is a larger store in a pretty popular strip mall. It's always clean, clear, bright, and moderately well stocked. A weird tip that I've learned is that they get new shipments of seasonal items on Tuesdays, and they get shipments of their standard items on Thursdays - so if they're out of something, they can always check to see how many are headed your way, and now you know when. They have a wide selection of goods to help you prepare for your next craft, and with it a really friendly staff that will steer you in the right way. A lot of the employees in the store have some crafting experience, and are more than happy to help you find an item or a direction. The scent of potpourri/scentsicles/something is like a knockout punch when you start to travel into the depths of the store, so if you're sensitive to scents, you probably don't want to meander and linger back there. The checkout lines usually move pretty slowly, but they always have a coupon out there. If you don't have one from a flyer or an e-mail, make sure you check out their mobile app/website. I came in to search for supplies with my cousin, who wanted to make candy leis for another cousin's upcoming UW graduation on June 9th. Candy leis are essentially candy necklaces but with good candy like Hershey's kisses in our case. They had everything we needed except the Hershey kisses, which were already bought. I love their clearance items to think of a next project to make because I can't pass up an amazing deal. Pinterest? This location had an unorganized cashier setup and was crazy packed (2 cashiers on a Sunday of Memorial day Weekend?) If you have a smart phone, be sure to download the Michaels app because there's always at least one coupon for 40% and my fave 50% off regular-priced item or other. I've been a regular Michael's shopper for years, and have always loved their great selection. This particular location, which I frequented often in the past, but not so much since they moved to the other side of the strip mall, is laid out in a confusing manner. Items are not grouped together in a way that makes sense to me. The holiday/seasonal items, in particular, seem to be shelved in a random way. For instance, the forms for making your own wreaths are on one side of the store in the back. The pine cones are many aisles over, also in the back, and the fake berries and leaves and stuff are towards the front of the store. It took us 20 minutes to put together everything to make a wreath. My other beef this year was the small print on the black Friday coupons. Michaels has always been one of my favorite places to go for holiday sales because they are usually excellent. This year, they had coupons which ended at noon and then other coupons which started at noon on the same day...which you couldn't really tell unless you read the small print. It was annoying. The cashier mentioned that we were not the only people to be confused and then annoyed by it. We still managed to score a couple of decent deals, but overall, I'm not really sure if it was worth venturing out there on the biggest shopping weekend of the year... Nevertheless, Michaels is still the best one-stop arts and crafts store around. read more

The people who work here aren't very crafty, they're just working. So if you're hoping for some advice or opinion, check with the bystanders instead. Awesome thing is I received a 50% off on any regular price item with my purchase. The discount is only good for a week though, but I still think this is great since craft supplies can cost an arm! This not my favorite location. The lay out is so weird. Random paper over here, punches over there, stamps across the store..it is just weird. I always feel like I am going to miss something here. Customer service is fine, they are not overly friendly but I know what I need when I come in so I don't need any assistance. Unbelievably poor customer service. With the recent switch to curb side only pickup I was anxious to get supplies I needed for a project despite the store not being open to customers. I placed and paid for my small order online and waited for an email that never would arrive. After a few hours I was driving near the store and stopped in to see if I could pick up. I was the only car in the lot. As I parked a store worker came to my window and asked my name and then said "you're not the right one". I asked if She could check my order number for pickup and She said "no you will get an email when it's ready". I asked if I should call the number posted on the door for someone to check, answer "no we are all busy filling orders, it's taking about 3 hours". It had only been 2 hours so I returned home to wait for an email that was not to come. I abandoned my project that was needed the next morning. The next afternoon I called to check on my order and was told "yes it's ready, it was picked 22 hours ago". Okay great, so right about the time I was sitting in your parking lot talking to your employee who refused to check the status. Please cancel my order and refund my money, it remains to be seen if that can happen in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I came to Michaels with some of my artwork to get framed and Paul, who works in the framing department was a HUGE help! He gave me great suggestions, he took extra time and helped me pick out frames and matts that worked for me and was so genuine! I am not crafty. Don't believe those Beastie Boys. They lie. Most of the time anyway. Like I was saying.. this is probably the second time THIS year, that I have stepped foot in a craft store. Of my own doing. I need to make a cupcake wreath for my mum for the holidays and this place was in route to where we needed to go. Like all craft stores, this place is packed... and again, I AM NOT CRAFTY... but... somehow... I feel the NEED to walk down every aisle. To touch things, to ohhh and ahhh at ALL the stuff. What is wrong with me?? DON'T. ANSWER. THAT. I couldn't find the floral rings I was looking for... or the regular cupcake liners.. or the pins... so not one... not two... but three sales gals helped me. They were really nice. This store was fun. And... they played Christmas music... which is almost always helpful. Oh gosh... I just remembered... I have to go back. ugh. I need more ribbon. and more pins. BRIGHT SIDE.... They have TONS of stuff to look at! The isles are small and there's always been quite a few people shopping whenever I come here. The only thing I can't take is the nauseatingly strong potpourri smell that permeates the entire store. You can get any sort of craft supply you can ever imagine!! When I used to scrapbook (before kids) this was my store!! I came in today because I needed a .99 paper for my nephews baptism candle.. When I went to pay the cashier gave me a 40% discount without even saying anything... Sure the item was just .99 cents but offering even just a small discount without question made my little night lol... I spent a lot of time wondering around the store as the way it sorts its merchandiser is not always intuitive. I purposefully go up and down every aisle making sure I don't miss something I need as it may be on a different aisle instead of the one I was anticipating it to be on. If you can't find what you're looking for, the staff is helpful and very friendly. The best thing about the Michaels chain is it is a one stop shop for all of your crafting needs. It may not specialize in any one craft or have extraordinary inventory for one art, it does allow you to get properly get started and cover the basics. read more

This Michael's is a new location for me since moving to the south end. I love this store. Even more than the Lynnwood location. The layout is less "cluttery" and two people can actually pass each other with carts down the aisles. They have everything I'm looking for and I've had pretty nice people help me. I went last night and was thrilled at all the 40% off sale items. Not just on crap they are trying to get rid of. I shop after dinner, mid-week usually, so I have the store to myself and the staff is all cheerful that the end of their shift is near. :) Best way to shop. read more

I just had the worst customer experience with "Tim" working customer care at Michael's. Checking the receipt after purchase, I noticed the 50% discount was not applied on the $7.99 Recollections Value Pack 50 set cards & envelopes that sat above a sign stating "50% Recollections Value 50 count large and 25 count small". I spoke with Tim to ask what was on sale. He escorted me to the aisle, stopping 4-6' from the sign and product and said they were out of the sale item. I asked what near the sign was on sale. We continued down the aisle. He read it allowed and said only the 25 count small size was on sale (which was out of stock). I picked up the item I purchased - a standard size card (maybe 4x6), and stated nowhere does it state if it is small or large and all verbiage between sign and product match. He responds "well, that's not on sale." No further reason - no showing how the copy doesn't match, nothing. I again ask what by the sign is on sale. He lifts the sign, looks about, and moves the sign 4-6' away. He returns. I ask "how would one know this is small or large as it doesn't state it anywhere?" He finally says, (after my 3rd or 4th question about the size and sign verbiage) that he'd give me the $4 discount - but seriously, at this point I'm really bothered that I had to make so much effort to get it - and no apology or acknowledgement that anything was wrong with the sign (obviously it was my inability to recognize a roughly 4x6 card/envelope was "small"). At the register, still looking for apology for the issue caused or some acknowledgement that I'm not an idiot for not being able to read the sign, I refer to the sign and say something like I have a Masters Degree and couldn't figure it out - to which he responds "clearly". Nice going, Tim of Customer Care. Needless to say, I didn't buy the product and am now really sour on a store I used to like. Never have I had to work so hard for such a small benefit - and made to feel like I was an idiot for not being able to match a misplaced, poorly worded sign to a product. read more

I came here to grab a couple of things for an ugly christmas sweater party: I can't really say much about Michael's other than there was a pretty good sale on a bunch of things and that each and every time I come to visit I want to grab an airplane model to put together. Also, the people here seemed to fairly helpful and I although the place was a bit busy due to the christmas shopping rush, no one ever gave me an attitude when I asked for some help. read more

When I go into a craft section I start to feel very creative. I feel like I need to start scrapbooking. That I need to start knitting. Putting sugar decals on my cupcakes. Incidentally I came in here to browse. I had no idea anyone on a domestic level would need a warehouse type supplier of faux flowers. Yarn I get, cloth I get. I just had no idea those flowers had a place outside of all you can eat buffet and low maintenance grave decoration. It's sort of like browsing through the Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe. read more

This Michael's store is really lacking in products. Compared to the Bellevue one, it's quite sad. Often times they don't have full stock of items and I can never find what i'm looking for. Plus the prices are really high for the actual product itself, I go across the street to JoAnn's for some items. If I need some beads then yes Michael's but when it comes to other crafts, JoAnn's is much better. The staff here is okay but they have no issue walking right by you when you've obviously got that "i'm lost and looking for something" look on your face. read more

Went to Michael's in West Springfield . My daughter and I shop there a LOT! We hate the air freshener smell so we always hurry . II had the best experience ever at this store. I went to the completion across the street and had to wait a long time in line. I called Michael across the street and asked if they would take my Joann's coupon. They said yes and even gave be a better deal than Joanne's did.. When I got the Michaels the two women that helped me were Lisa and Kathy. They were so very happy and knowledgeable. They seem like they love what they do and they are very good at it. Your store had a better selection of frames and the ladies at Michaels my unhappy moment at Joanne's a very good experience. I never would have gone in if it were not for the long wait at Joanne's and severe staffing issues at Joanne's. I will take my artwork to Michaels from now on. Better selection and better service. Walked around the store without any employees asking whether we needed assistance, not once greeted us, but whatever, when I get up to the register I asked the cashier if she can do the 40% off non 1 sale item for me since I saw it online. She tells me to pull it up, and it's like seriously you have a catalog right there to scan, my phone has no internet service on it because If you have tmobile, like myself, you don't really get service around that area, and so I pulled up a recent email like showing her I'm signed up , and explaining to her I have no internet, oh and by the way there's a huge line behind me, and the catalog with the barcode is right in front of her still and she finally says okay and scans it. Like seriously. Good luck working during the holidays at that pace hun. I was disappointed by the lack of interest that the employee showed. I don't know why she made things more difficult than it needed to be, it really wasted my time. read more

Worst store ever. Aside from their astronomical mark-up on prices, the advertised discounts are never, never, never applied at the register. I always have to inquire to the cashier about the discount, I always have to stand and wait for price checks to ensure I am not just making up the discount, I always have to deal with meat-for-brains cashiers/sales associates to make sure I pay the correct price. I've never been to a store with so many incompetent, rude, and lazy employees, all of whom fancy themselves artists and pioneers of all things craft when really they are just brain dead and could not get hired elsewhere. I always have to DEMAND help, and I would not call what I receive as help. Ever. This last trip was the final one in which the dumb cashier neglected to put PAID items into my bag. I wrote to Michael's corporate to send in a complaint and all they could do is offer a $10 gift card, which is worthless in the wake of such poor customer service. I really hope this places closes and gets steamrolled into a parking lot. read more

I will never go to this store again and the clerk needs to be terminated. All the Jolee stickers displays had a sign 40% off. Only the Jolee displays had this sign. It seemed to be a reasonable assumption that Jolee stickers were on sale. First the clerk could not run my gift card and she accused me of fraud. When I asked if the stickers were on sale she grabbed the ad and stabbed @ it with her finger nail, "the stickers by American Craft and Sticko are on sale can't you read"? Then she shoved the ad in my face. Not only should she be terminated, but I should charge her with assault. read more
