Came in to just browse the yarn and see if they had the ChiaoGoo Quads. When I asked an employee if they had the quads in stock she had rudely snapped her fingers at another employee named Wonder to go greet customers that had just entered the shop. I found that behavior very off putting and it happened twice during my discussion with her. Have some respect for your fellow employees as they aren't dogs you can snap your fingers at, they are human and should be treated as such. I ended up leaving and just ordering what I needed from another shop. If the owner or store manager sees this please encourage better behavior. I can't imagine how this employee treats other employees when customers aren't present. The employee who was rude was of Asian decent if this helps identify who was working today. read more

I lost at yarn chicken & needed additional yarn to finish a sweater that was intended as a holiday gift, so I ordered one more skein online with a note requesting they ship it as soon as reasonably possible so I could finish my project. They shipped it in under a day, which was REALLY helpful especially given that it was the holiday season! Deeply appreciated - highly recommend this yarn shop after this experience. read more

Places are judged by how they handle issues. I had an overcharge here and they fixed it right away over the phone, which was so great. The trunk shows are amazing and I love buying from local dyers. This is a small business that takes care of other small businesses and makers and deserves your community support! First of all... I don't knit. It's not that I don't want to. It's more that I haven't picked up the talent yet and truly I don't need another project or hobby right now. With that said though- this store is awesome! I visited the Nifty Knitter for the first time this week with my bestie and her favorite five month old looking for yarn for her newest project: socks! We were immediately greeted at the door by store clerk Johnathan. He was so friendly and helpful during our visit- and funny too! Johnathan clearly has a love for this store and the art of knitting and his excitement makes you want to jump in on the fun too! He was very sweet with the baby and made us all feel very welcome. We were looking for soft yarn in multi-colored skeins for socks for her and hubby. We ended up picking out a cranberry shaded multi-colored skein for her and a bright pink and purple "unicorn" skein for the nine year old at home. Nothing for her hubby- we couldn't decide on a color for him. She will ask him more questions and come back. This store has sooo many good options! Many of the yarn types have sample swatches or patches like potholders for you to feel and touch to see what the texture of your finished project with that yarn might be like. We absolutely fell in love with the milk yarn - it is sooo soft and fluffy like kittens! They have a nice classroom/table setting in the back for classes which sound like they happen fairly regularly. If I ever get the urge to take up knitting- I'll come here for sure! Bonus points: they will wind your purchased yarn skein into a ball for you for free. My friend was so impressed by this- apparently this type of customer service is over the top awesome and rare for yarn stores in the area. She was thrilled and said she will definitely be back for other knitting projects supplies. read more

I came in looking for red wool for a crochet product. It was my first time in the store so I took my time and browsed the products. Once I picked up what I was intending to purchase, the lady working says to me "that right there is $18, there is a hobby lobby down the street" it was so disrespectful especially because there were other people in the store and she did not speak to them in that manner. I put the yarn back and left the store. I have since told so many people about my experience and no one wants to support a company that speaks to customers in this manner. read more

I happened upon the Nifty knitter while stopping for coffee at Gilman Village and I am so glad I did. The person working was so sweet and helpful. The store is beautifully organized and made me feel like a kid in a candy store. My 5 year old loved watching them wind the wool. Came across this store completely by accident, and couldn't be happier! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, explaining all of the incredible types of yarn they had available. I grabbed two skeins of gorgeous navy yarn, hats for me and my husband, as well as a pattern for the hat I want to make. I'm planning to come back to get yarn for some things for my kids. I also was pleased to hear they have classes, as well as a Friday night social group. I really hope I can make it to some of those. The staff is THE BEST. Most genuinely friendly and helpful folks I have ever encountered in any yarn shop. I've visited twice so far, different staff each time, and all of them were delightful. They greeted me warmly, asked if I needed help, left me alone to browse as long as I liked and then were super helpful when I was ready to start choosing yarns. Wonderful winding machine that they operated for me. Great selection of magazines and books. The yarn is gorgeous colors, and high quality and varied types. I did wish at first the shop was bigger but then was glad there wasn't left because it was hard not to want to buy one of everything. This store is well worth the drive from West Seattle. read more

Great yarn store! The staff are incredibly friendly. I came in looking to find a color of yarn to match some I was using for a project. The staff helped me by looking for matching colors and giving me ideas. They have a pretty well curated selection of yarn from different vendors at all price ranges. I really liked this yarn store!!! This was my first visit, which came after a recommendation from a nearby quilt shop. It's a small shop with, I'd say, a moderate selection. I really enjoyed talking to the manager! He was so nice and helped answer all of my many questions (I'm new to knitting), and answered happily - with a smile and enthusiasm. I'd say the prices here are $$ - $$$, but they carry amazing yarns. No skimping on quality at this shop! They also offer a nice assortment of classes and times where people can just come to sit & knit (and chat), which is great. If I had to list a complaint, it would be that they didn't have more than 1 skeins of the 2 yarns I initially wanted. But, the manager was helpful to give some options for getting exactly what I wanted. I ended up with some beautiful yarns after a nice visit. Oh! There was also a beginner class going on at the time of my visit. It seemed everyone was having a good time and that their questions were answered quickly. This shop has made me love knitting again. The staff and owner are absolutely amazing and the environment, although on the small side, is warm and homey. The yarn selection is awesome, with so many gorgeous colors and types of yarn to choose from. The classes are well-taught and super helpful.
