    Yarn

The owner, Jen, is one of the best. She's super friendly and helpful and she carries some fantastic yarn! She is a patient teacher and I have taken a few classes from her. I can finally knit! She just celebrated her 5th anniversary, here's to many more! Pic is yarn recently purchased. I was stuck trying to find a coordinating color for the blue and gold and Jen came to the rescue with the aqua.

So excited! It's just a hop, skip, and jump away from me, in Gig Harbor.

Is it wrong of me to do a review before I even pop in your shop?! I am very excited to come and see it in person. I am a local knit wear designer and just found your shop on yelp. I'm hoping to pop in on Thursday! From what I see, just in your pictures, this looks like one fabulous little yarn shop! And, with plenty to offer from the get go. Loving it! Jen Giuntoli Designs

Beautiful yarn and buttons!! Great finds all around!

Unfortunately, the hours posted on Google were not correct, and when we arrived, the store was officially closed, although a class was going on. Win, whom I am assuming was not just sales but perhaps the manager, was extremely apologetic. Rather than turn us away, she let us browse , saying that she was teaching the class but wouldn't have time to help us in real time. She let us know that we could flag her down if we had questions. We really enjoyed ourselves. The store is much larger than any local yarn store I have been to previously, and there are many unique and different yarns. Win came to help us after her class, and could not have been more wonderful. What started out as a browse, turned into some nice purchases. It's a gem of a store, and I look forward to going back on my next trip up north.

It's located in an old industrial space. Light industrial brickwork. The sign is a little small and hard to spot. You enter through a small door and go up a few stairs, and voilà - Alibaba's cave. The staff is helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They'll help you as much as you want them to, without being pushy. In my case, there were some yarns that I liked, and they found the right projects for my taste and skill level, made sure I was kitted out, and taught me the techniques I'd need. In case you need patterns, they've got them. There's a full room dedicated to books. Don't miss the clearance section! They also do knitting workshops during week days by reservation, for a very modest fee. They also have classes, though they do fill out fast!

I've been a customer at the Knittery since the prior owner was only a clerk/knitting instructor…read more The rich history of this place being purchased by employees from the retiring owner makes it a must-stop place to shop, no matter where they've been located. From the old, old shopping center in the 80s by JC Penny, to the small location by IKEA and then this one, I've been a customer and followed them, literally, since 1986, and learned how to read a pattern through classes that were worth the 30 minute drive to get there, even with a houseful of babies. Got a question? I encourage you to call and ask. You won't be disappointed. I've been told "we'd love to see you but we don't have that in stock right now." The honesty is refreshing. Do they seem busy? Speak up; they're just waiting to hear what you need and will get to you as soon as they can. The best experience is to allow ample time to browse. You'll won't be nagged while deciding on the perfect pattern, and they'll gladly help you choose the perfect yarn to make it, if you can't decide which yarn on your own. I'm treating myself to a special trip just for yarn tomorrow; my birthday present to myself. I can't wait! I'll probably still miss Wynne, but I hope I'm still around to see these ladies retire and pass the store on to the employees who will buy it in the future.

I took in a skein of yarn that had been munched on by moths (thankfully they were long gone post feast) and Shannon, one of the lovely gals who works there, spent over two hours unravelling, hand winding and then winding the little balls into one beautiful cake. I highly recommend this space if you are looking for some very nice folks to help you find what you need and provide classes of all kinds.

I was immediately impressed upon entering the store. It felt as though I had crossed the other side of the wardrobe and ended up in Knitting Narnia. Shelves of beautiful fabrics, yarns, and so many more items you didn't know you needed, but now that you've seen them you just gots to have them. There are tables and chairs nestled about for groups to hang out and knit while enjoying a coffee or snack from the Firebird Cafe located in the back of the shop. The cafe has a lot of selection of sweet and savory snackums including gluten free items; however, when I asked about contamination risk for celiac peeps they weren't sure how safe it was, so I stuck to the hot chocolate which was hot..and chocolaty..and full of goodness. May I also note that they serve wine and I am just so on board with that. Wine, knitting, and someone brought their cat in on leash... I see no reason to ever leave this place. This shop offers tons of events like the one I participated in this weekend where they invite local artists to set up inside their store and peddle their wares. The excitement from their regulars the moment the doors opened was palpable. They were just all about getting their paws on the fun, beautiful, and handy items for sale. In addition to events like these, this shop stays super involved with their locals by hosting classes that range well beyond knitting and crocheting. Every individual I interacted with here brought their best energy and enthusiasm and were so upbeat I started wondering what the secret these knitters are putting in their herbal tea... and if they'd share some with me. If you're a crafty fellow definitely check this place out. You might just walk out with the find of a lifetime, some magical knitter's tea, or even get to pet a cat on a leash...the possibilities are endless.
