Just finished the PNW yarn Crawl and this was my favorite shop. Displays, samples, patterns, fibers organized and clean. Sanitation excellent following guidelines. Shop owner Michelle was friendly and most helpful. Next visit to the northwest this will be a definite stop. read more

I continue to be much more impressed with this yarn store than the other yarn stores in town. Michelle, the owner, is infinitely patient and helpful, and very knowledgeable! I have some serious disabilities and she has always been very kind and gracious with me, answering questions over Facebook messenger since it is hard for me to come in, and even remembering our conversations when I come in and showing me directly to the yarn I need so I can minimize my time in the store. I love that they do knitting for charity, like knitted knockers, and classes for everyone from beginners to kids. They just keep expanding their yarn selection and have a great variety of yarn. They have really beautiful, high quality yarns that make knitting such a pleasure. They also have more moderately priced yarns, but nothing cheap (as in quality as well as price). They even carry fiber for spinning, as well as some notions like buttons. There are almost always people sitting on the couches, chatting and knitting. Very friendly, welcoming store that is a pleasure to shop at! The only thing to watch out for is they do carry some body products that are scented with artificial fragrances. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities so I'm very sensitive, but my hubby said the scent is definitely noticeable in the store. I air out the yarn for a week in the laundry room and I can use it. Other people probably wouldn't notice after a day or two. Definitely not nearly as bad as JoAnn's or Michael's but something to be aware of. Edit: They don't have yarns dyed with GOTS certified dyes, or organic yarns except one cotton I think, which is strange to me because Olympia is a very environmentally conscious place. read more

Recently the Black Sheep Yarn Boutique moved to Harrison in the same area as the Iron Rabbit. The new shop is wonderful! It is larger than the previous location, with the same (and more) wonderful yarn and notions. Michelle did a lovely job of decorating; there is an area for sitting and knitting and a table for one on one lessons. I am so happy for Michelle and wish her the best. read more

Black Sheep Yarn is the best yarn shop that I've patronized ( and I've visited too many to count). The selection of yarns and accessories for the knitter is exceptional. Whenever I need some supplies for my knitting addiction Black Sheep is my destination and I am never disappointed. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. When I find the perfect yarn one of the employees is never too busy to help me find the right pattern for my project. And, then someone in the shop will print it for me. This store is small, but very nice. They have a decent selection of yarns in a variety of price points. Their notions selections are definitely adequate! I went in the day after having throat surgery and the lady working was so nice to my husband as he talked for me! She didn't make him feel unwelcome or uneducated. What a charming shop! Stopped in this past weekend and stocked up on some gorgeous Malabrigo, and also some gorgeous locally dyed yarns. The ladies in the shop were friendly and welcoming, and the selection, while not huge, is very well balanced -- something for every knitter or hooker.
