Amazing place! Great teachers and so many fun classes I want to try!…read more Unlike so many people I know, I never took dance growing up, However I have always enjoyed movement and wished I could dance actual steps. All that to say I was super intimidated to take the plunge now, in my late 30s. I started with a Saturday afternoon line dancing workshop. I was immediately put at ease by the friendliness and the diversity of ages, sizes, and shapes of people that I found taking the class with me. After my wonderful experience at the workshop, I signed up for beginning modern jazz. Tracey Durbin is an amazing teacher! I was up-front with her about my lack of experience and nervousness. She put me at ease by reminding me that everyone is here to have fun, period. I have now signed up for my second session and I have no plans to stop!

When I graduated, it was hard to find a dance studio to take lessons. Ninth Street Dances offers classes in a variety of styles, techniques, and flavors. You can take a dance technique class or a movement/fitness class. I've taken an eight-week hour-long modern and contemporary. I've also taken the dancehall workshop (one three-hour class) which was high-energy and a lot of fun. Most of the adult classes were at night, which was great to attend after work. (This was before COVID-19, of course.) Now classes are virtual. I recently signed up for a virtual mediation class that will take place for four weeks during my lunch break -- perfect while I'm working from home. Other classes offered -- 90's cardio funk, tap, ballet, bhangra, twerk, hip hop, afrobeat and so many more! Here's the link to the class schedule: https://ninthstreetdance.com/classes/

I can highly recommend this dance studio - our experience has been great - for tap, jazz and modern…read moredance instruction, AND the musical theater camps that are held in the summer. (They are now offering musical theater jazz during the school year). Both of my kids (ages 9 and 7) dance at BSCH. If your kid loves tap dance, this is where you go in the Triangle area to learn how to tap. We drive 30 minutes from Durham to get here. The instructors for the most part have all been students of Gene Medler, the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (tap company) meets here, and the NC Rhythm Tap Festival is held at the dance studio every year. The studio has one room dedicated to tap dance and it is flooded with light! As far as jazz and modern instruction goes- t he teachers are very gifted instructors and while the classes are "fun" I know that my kids are learning technical skills that translate over to other dance forms (like tap). The recitals are held on Memorial Day weekend but are split between two days so parents aren't "stuck" in a very, very long performance (which was my first experience as a dance mom - lol - at a different studio). I appreciate that recitals are tasteful and choreography is truly moving (last year's advanced modern, jazz and tap performances were very artistic versus "showy"). Additionally, more advanced dancers are involved in the choreography of their end of year recital which I imagine is very meaningful to those dancers. The location of the studio is great. I often times drop my kids off and run errands or sit at a cafe or take a yoga class or go rock climbing. Additionally, while I've never needed to use it, the studio has a small playground in the back of the building. As a parent that is new to dance (in other words, I did not dance as a kid or ever as an adult) there are a lot of questions I don't even know I'm supposed to be asking, but my experience is that the studio's administrator is very good at her job. I get all the emails I need in order to know how to maneuver my family through the dance options, payment schedules, recitals, etc. Also, at the end of every year, dancers get a sort of "report card" with praise and future dance style and level recommendations. My older kid really loved reading how much her teachers enjoyed having her in class!

I've only taken intermediate classes, so I can't speak for more basic or more advanced instruction. My one gripe is that the Ballet School does not allow regular walk-ins. They will let you try out your first class for free, but from then on, they require dancers to purchase a minimum of 9 classes. I assume this is to encourage retention, but really, the policy discourages me from attending class at all just because I can't commit to one class per week. Bummer.

My daughter has been dancing competitively for almost a decade now at a top notch dance company in…read moreWestern Wake, and we decided the time was right to try a different studio. I had heard mixed reviews of Renner, the main complaint being the lack of professionalism and the constant lying from both the owner Summer and the office administrator Debbi. In hindsight, I should've listened to the advice of those telling me to avoid Renner like the plague. Due to COVID, I first contacted Debbi and Summer about starting out with virtual classes. I was given very few options, but decided to enroll in a ZOOM class with Claudia another with Coleen, leaving the option open for adding many more classes in the near future. The first week went fine. Two classes, two successful ZOOM sessions. The second week, however, Colleen neglected to let the virtual dancers into class. After I sent Debbi and Summer and email telling them the situation, I was guaranteed they Colleen "had been talked to" and it was not going to happen again. Well, the following week, Colleen again failed to let the ZOOM dancers into class. Another email was composed to Summer and Debbi and again I was promised that it wouldn't happen again. Another week came and to my surprise, Colleen's class went without a hitch. This time, however, Claudia chose not to let the virtual students in the class, effectively shutting out all ZOOM students. I once again contacted Summer and Debbi and I was offered a make-up class on a different evening. However, after asking several times for the ZOOM codes for this make-up class, I was completely ignored by both. Out of eight classes I had paid for, only three classes were actually held. After inquiring about whether these classes were cancelled, I received a very unprofessional email from Summer making excuses and instead of solving the problem that so many students are having, she placed the blame on everyone else besides herself. If you want to be lied to, if you want to be jerked around, if you want to be a part of a disorganized mess with questionable business practices and mediocre instructors, this place is for you. If not, there are too many honest dance studios in Pittsboro-Cary-Apex-Holly Springs that are leaps and bounds over this amateur-ish operation. Choose one of the others instead.

They have all levels to start from with Exel, Extreme, and Elite level companies. They have amazing quality teachers and the studio owner Summer is amazing and runs an amazing program!

Which is fine because it's policy but just letting you know in advance that if you need more flexibility around time this may pose as difficult. I had paid for three classes in advance as that is how they had it laid out at the time. They mentioned they would let the manager know to see if theres credit reimbursement but I havent heard anything since. I've only been to beginner classes but the instructors seem ok! Not super advanced but not super new either so would be according to each person's judgement.

An excellent way to give a try with 10 classes excellent prices. The investment in oneself is priceless. The website is easy to navigate and the studio owner, Alicia, is extremely kind to answer questions prior to registration. A few email exchanges along with a follow up and 5 stars on customer focus was appreciated. I opted to begin by jump starting and return to yoga practice on Saturday, then Sunday....next one Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, ... no option Thursday so I will have a rest day, then back Friday and so forth! Class starts on time and door locked for client safety and security this is pivotal and while some may disagree, fundamental safety protocols are essential. Pura Vida Studio is clean and utilized space well and even offered a tour first day as new client. A sense of positivity in this local community. I enjoyed meeting the owner who set up the room prior to a full class with a motivational card which seems to be spot on and a delightful presentation and experience. Sunday was lovely from the moment entering and exiting the studio. Thank you Alicia and Staff..namaste, see you soon!
