AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! They are unlicensed i have brought many vehicles to this place before but today I sent my teenage son to go get a smog check for my 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and instead of doing a proper visual inspection first (which all legit smog shops are supposed to do), they ran the full test, passed everything, and then failed my car for having theft protection on my catalytic converter--something that has nothing to do with emissions. The theft protection was not touching the catalytic converter, only surrounding it. The catalytic converter has been stolen before and a theft protection was professionally installed surrounding the catalytic converter underneath the car. They marked my vehicle as "tampered" in the DMV system, damaging my record for no valid reason, and then had the audacity to charge me $70 for a failed test. They could've told my son and I beforehand, like real professionals, but instead they unlawfully and willingly trap customers into paying for unnecessary diagnostics and would not tell me the issue even though I asked during the inspection until they finished the entire test. They also told me to remove the theft protection and then come back and pay another $70 to pass the smog. They held my keys and paperwork until the $70 was paid. They completely took advantage of my teenage son with not much knowledge in order to get a few more dollars out of trapping inexperienced customers. To make it worse, this shop constantly changes and inflates their prices, with no consistency. It feels like they make up the rules as they go. The environment is chaotic, disorganized--a circus, not a business and the overly emotional lady at the front is unfit for the job and was being very loud and rude towards me. This place needs to be inspected and the employees need to learn proper procedure and human decency. When I calmly confronted them about this unethical behavior, the lady at the front desk broke down crying, clearly unable to handle the truth, and instead of addressing the issue like an adult, I asked to call the cops and she called the police. I did nothing wrong, yet they treated me like a criminal for speaking up. The police told me to contact the BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR and the DEPARTMENT of CONSUMER AFFAIR. This place has zero integrity, zero professionalism, and zero regard for people. They don't care about your time, your car, or even basic human decency. They completely wasted my time, their time, the Livermore Police Department's time, and also damaged my vehicle's record. It is apparent that the employees do not understand or follow proper smog inspection procedures and are more worried about collecting unlawful money. Each employee gives a different price like they make it on the spot. I would not recommend! I have been going here for the last 3 years. And have never had this issue before. I sent my teenager there to have my car smog since I'm disabled, this is a handicapped vehicle and no longer do too much driving these days. However, my kid comes back and the car is not smogged! Instead of telling us that the car engine monitor wasn't ready, and needs to be driven, they go through the entire test for no reason and they still charged $80. That's extremely dishonest for $80! I called to question this! And was rudely spoken to by a female who start yelling profanities after she gave the phone to her husband. Who did absolutely nothing! This business took no course of action to try to rectify or straighten this issue. read more

Our car needed a smog and we got a coupon in the mail in that value-pack thing for this place. $30 for smog plus $8 for the certificate. We went when they opened at 8am on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. In and out in 20 minutes. Super easy and fast, and the employees were very friendly. FYI they have two different locations. We accidentally got directions to their repair shop which is not open on Saturday. We were trying to figure out why the door was locked and called the number, the guy was super nice and knew right away that we were at the wrong place and gave us directions to the smog shop, so I guess it happens a lot. read more

You know you've found a winner of a shop when they: a) Take on work that other shops shy away from or refuse due to the complexity. b) Do it with a friendly "can do" spirit. c) Do it for a very reasonable price...less than as half the quotes of some other shops. My wife has a 2004 Ford Explorer that needed one of the costliest services possible short of an entire engine replacement...a new timing belt. This job for this car is, in fact, so labor intensive that the engine must be completely removed just to perform the repair. Many of the shops I called in the Walnut Creek area where I live simply declined the work, explaining that they didn't have the bandwidth to spare a mechanic for the 3-4 days needed to do the work. Other shops gave me quotes north of $6K which I later learned is a shop's alternative method of declining the job. Yet other shops wouldn't give me direct quote but wanted to charge as much as $400 for an evaluation that would NOT be applied to the work, even though I was confident it was a timing belt issue! A tire shop I use regularly referred me to Tri-Valley Car Care. Chris and his team first performed a complementary evaluation of the entire vehicle and in a consultative manner, helped me decide if the repair made sense based on the car's age, miles, and overall condition. One could argue that based on the car's blue book value, it didn't. Nevertheless, with the quote that Chris gave me of a little more that 3K, and an otherwise great report card for the car, my wife and I decided that, at this present time, repair made more sense than a new car. Ultimately, Chris and his Tri Valley team came through in a big way! Not only does the Explorer run fantastic, but several weeks later, when I called Chris for reassurance that the car could handle a road trip with just my wife and 4-year-old son from Walnut Creek through the desert to Arizona, he responded that for a trip like this he would like to give it one more thorough inspection to be safe. And he did, at no charge! Seriously, could you ask any more of a repair shop? By the way, this Explorer with over 130K miles, made the 1,850-round trip without a hitch!
