I just dropped over $1,000 on a new TREK Bike after waiting several months in Anchorage Alaska. I called the store this morning to have it ready for pick-up and the service employee asked me if I wanted new pedals. He said the ones that were with the New TREK bike were "mediocre." Excuse me? I am paying $1,000 for a new TREK and it is equipped with Mediocre gear? Is the bike going to fall apart after I leave the showroom? I asked to speak to a manager and he deflected my comments stating that they sell other gear to "trick" the bike out such as clip in pedals and other items sold by the store. I asked him why the pedals don't work. To say the least the employees and manager at this store do not support TREK products and try to sell other gear to increase their sales rather than support the TREK products that they have a license to sell. They may want to go back and reeducate the employees and managers about how they speak to the public about their products. Telling me that my new TREK product is "MEDIOCRE" did not set well with me. I further told them that would ride the bike and see what things I wanted to after riding for some time. If you are going to sell MEDIOCRE products you might want to find a different line of work. I might buy a different brand such as a Cannondale next time because their employees stand behind their products. read more

First time buyer of a Trek bike. After much shopping and dreaming I decided on a District 4 to replace my old belt drive bike my wife sold by accident. I remember how proud my sister was 25 years ago when she purchased a Trek bike, which was the deciding factor. On my second ride, coming down a steep hill, I nearly wrecked. The front fork was pulsating and vibrating, rapidly loading and unloading, flexing the fork back and forth about an inch travel at the axle as I got on the front brake to slow down. Took the bike to the shop and the repair person disassembled the disc brake to discover the pads were only biting the disc by 55-60%, right on the scalloped edge which was why it was pulsating. As the bike sat on the stand, I began noticing the rear fender also was in a bind because the integrated rear rack is also off kilter. If you own a 2022 or 2023 trek district 4, either model, take a look at your rear fender right at the point where it mounts to the rear rack, I'm confident you'll see the fender doesn't cover the left side of the tire. I say I'm confident because I compared it to the one on the sales floor. The rear fender on that one was also in a bind and off center in the middle because the rear MIK rack is misaligned. I get that there are supply issues right now, but suppliers are cutting corners and need to be held accountable. This bike frame was manufactured in China and because of poor quality control, this bike frame was welded together very poorly. The tab that holds the disk brake caliper to the fork is nearly 5mm too high putting the center of the pads at the edge of the rotor. Out of curiosity I began to look at all the welds on the fork and the frame, and could visually see the weld beads are not laid down in perfect dimes as I would expect to see, judging by the price of this bike. The rear triangle is welded in place catty-wampus as if it wasn't clamped in the jig correctly. It's visually off center where it meets the top of the seat tube. The tubes don't look like they were scribed in correctly and my guess is the gap was uneven so the welder filled in the gaps by bridging the weld caps. There's inconsistency in the welds all together. At this point I'm extremely dissatisfied with the craftsmanship of my new bike I've dreamt of buying for several years and am considering returning it. I'll see what the dealer says the solution is on Monday first; but, the more I stew on the fact the frame was poorly assembled, I'm pretty sure this will be the last time I consider purchasing a Trek Bike. read more

I have never done business with Trek and do not own a bicycle, however a bike part was shipped to my home from a West Chester, Ohio store and charged my credit card $1,513.50 without my authorization. After several attempts to resolve this matter by phone and by email, I received extremely poor customer service from both Trek in Waterloo and the West Chester store in trying to resolve this matter expeditiously. In addition, I was not refunded my out-of-pocket expense of $47.30 in UPS charges for returning to the store the bike part that I never ordered. read more

I bought a $5000 bike from Trek. The bike arrives, it has some damage to it. I come to inspect the damage, they tell me that there's an offer of money back on the purchase. I agree. I come to get the bike and they tell me that this offer is now only store credit at their store, even though I didn't even buy my bike through their store. After going through Trek customer service, I get the money back and pick up my bike. The bike has clearly not gone through any form of tune up. I mean the wheels were quite obviously untrue, the extra tape was still hanging off of the cabling. I ask them to true the wheels. They forget to reinstall one of the fender bolts and they send me home at closing time with my fenders riding my wheel. I rode it back (fenders dragging on wheel) the next day and they installed some other bolt in the fenders that isn't matching. They even said, if you don't care about the matching bolts, we'll just leave this other one in place. I was like, I bought this yesterday and it costs $5000 so yes I want the original part. They also forgot to include another part that covers up sensitive equipment. It has now been over a month since I got my bike, but the local bike shop doesn't seem to care about the missing parts and neither does Trek customer service (isn't that right Andrew Keily)? I do not recommend ordering through Trek directly. They have made it very clear that they will not support the purchases made through them. read more

My Trek 1200. I have had it since moving here in fall 2004. This bike was my main vehicle for over a year. When i bought the road bike, I needed one that was rugged. It was about to be put through alot of distance, rain and crashes. I got the 1200 modle that was the 2003 model. The frame is lightweight aluminum. The front forks are carbonfiber to lessent the road shock. I upgraded the stock pedals, brake pads and got kevlar lined tires. This bike with some maintenance has lasted. Well built. Only minor easy to fix damage once. It took me on the many back roads on the pennisula including a nice trip from Great America park to SFO. It was m steed until that fateful driver error grea breaks day. Well it was a spectacular crash and only i broke. I look forward to getting it out more now for fun read more

The hill climbs up, up in front of me, I gasp for air, My body needs more oxygen than my lungs can provide. As I become anaerobic, the energy I need to turn my pedals comes from glucose through a process called glycolysis, in which glucose is broken down or metabolized into a substance called pyruvate . When oxygen is limited, like now, the body temporarily converts pyruvate into a substance called lactate, which allows glucose breakdown--and thus energy production--to continue. It also has the side effect of increasing the acidity of the cells in my quads. Feel the burn. Knowing why my legs are on fire does not help... But up I go. Big guys, like me, aren't climbers. Too much weight to carry, if you look at the pros they all have skinny upper bodies, me I played too many years of football to ever be able to climb effectively. That is why I bought a hardtail mountain bike, I need all the help I can get. Over the years I have owned Marins, Schwinns and two Treks. The Treks just fit me better than the other bikes. My Trek 8000 is pretty nice, the Rok Shock can be put into a stiff mode for those long climbs were I need every bit of help I can get. The bike is not especially light but then the best way for me to shave weight would be to lose my love handles. read more

I received two tires as a Mother's Day gift. Unbeknownst to my daughter, I had just replaced my tires. Because the tires were ordered onine, any return or exchange would have to go through my daughter's credit card. I didn't want her to know, though, that I was returning the tires. In steps June K., the most helpful person you'll ever meet when doing any online purchase. She manually entered all information when they received the tires that I sent back. Then, I picked out a new pannier, which cost a bit more than the tires, and June called me to get my credit card info, to complete the transaction. June K., you are my new favorite person. read more

I contacted Trek on three different occasions to try and work for them. I have a degree in a relevant field, strong work history, and desire to help the company in any way that I could. Even though I had a degree, I stated that I wanted to work for the company so eagerly that I was happy and willing to work my way up. All e-mails were ignored. Upon going into the warehouse in Whitewater to inquire (resume in hand and dressed respectably) on a work day I found the doors locked and lights out in entry way. I knocked numerous times before a passing employee let me in and phone the manager. The manager quickly told him that he would not shake my hand and had no interest in me. The employee apologized and told me to call the Waterloo location. I called waterloo and submitted a resume yet again, curtailing it to those job postings. Again the attempts were ignored and all phone numbers listed online were/are disconnected. Still, hoping this was just bad luck and one bad manager, I wrote to the president and son of the founder telling him about my struggles so other people that are eager to help his company grow would not go through the same tribulations. Six months has now passed and no contact. It is embarrassing. Still... I went the Trek store on the east side of Madison after all this transpired and was shocked at how uninterested the employees were in my presence as a customer. I counted 6 guys, four at the register, two in service chatting with each other. I walked around the store with no acknowledgement and left. I now happily work for Trek's competition in town and will do everything in my power to make people aware of the putrid standards Trek has for service and the pursuit of those that want to work for them, not just out of financial obligation. read more

There's a reason that Trek has the reputation it does-- they make amazing bikes. The frames have a lifetime warranty. They have revolutionized the bicycle industry many a time with their gift for innovation, from developing lighter wait aluminum alloy, and more recently carbon fiber, frames and components, to the Y frame dual- suspension mountain bikes. They built one of Lance Armstrong's bikes for the 2005 Tour De France in 5 weeks, when he demanded a lighter weight, more efficient bike with short notice. Looking to get a bike that will last you a long time, will get you around fast, will be durable on trails or on the road, and you'll love enough that you'll WANT to ride it whenever possible-- consider buying a Trek! read more

TREK makes really nice bikes. And you should buy one if you want to deal with a company that WILL NOT SUPPORT THEIR PRODUCT. Need to contact Trek? Their web site had no phone number...no address..no contact button...There is not a printable manual on their web site. Once they have your money, they're gone and you're on your own. I'm buying another bike this summer, and it won't be a TREK. I'm screwed now, but you can bet anyone within earshot will hear this warning. read more

Buyer beware. I been a fan of trek (I own a trek madone) when I purchased their Flare rear light they do NOT give you the option to select the mount. So you get the mount they decide you get. However to get the mount I need - you have to buy an additional mount. For a high end bike light ($60) you would think Trek would give you the choice of mount or send you several mounts. Talked to their online chat - response was too bad - you need to spend more money, basically you get what we send you otherwise get out your credit card. It is not a large amount of money but very poor customer service. Still waiting for Trek to respond. Very disappointed. read more

First let me say that I would give Jeff in customer service a negative star but that's not an option. Does Trek mean pompous conceded moron in a foreign language? I'm so disappointed with my first and last interaction with this monopoly of a company. When a customer spends a butt ton of money for a madone 5.2 and the level of service is crap; it makes the customer never want to buy a trek product. What matters in this industry is word of mouth and I'm getting after spreading the word. I will make a point in this market and online to make sure everyone knows that Jeff at Trek is a major embarrassment to the company he somewhat serves and shouldn't treat customers the way he does. If anyone in management knows how he handles customer relations I would hope they would be ashamed and appalled. Enough said, time to let the local cycling community know of this terrible interaction at the gorilla of bike manufacturers. read more
