It was the one thing she ever had that was hers alone. It came from a local manufacturer in Florida and she cherished that bike. I have spent the last two years trying to con my wife into letting me just get her a similar bike. We live in an incredibly bike friendly city (for the US) in California and we downsized to one car a few years back. We really like to ride for transportation on weekends. For a number of reasons, primarily the bike has sat for literally 30 years in a Wisconsin shed, and it would cost more to ship then it was worth, and I would spend thousands to spend a week restoring an ancient bike. I don't know if you ever had experience with a person with autism who has a fixation but if you do then you know. She could not be reasoned with, cajoled or bribed. I called wheel and sprocket Middleton first. The guy who answered the phone (my apologies I forgot every name the moment I heard it bad habit) explained he could pack it in a box but didn't recommend shipping if I was flying back. He told me I could check it as luggage instead. He told me this would take a couple days as they are busy with the back to school crowd. I thanked him for his time and hung up. I spent the next 20 minutes calling the airline, a shipping company and two competitors. Everything he told me on the phone is true. It is miles cheaper to get it packed and put on luggage than shipping. It does fit within standard luggage dimensions. He was also 50$ cheaper than the other place which didn't suggest it be luggage and instead told me it could be shipped by them. I went with the smart choice and brought it to Wheels and Sprocket. Once there a different guy was super helpful backed everything down to the quote on price and didn't bat an eye at the shape of the bike. I mean when I saw the bolts myself I decided the restoration went from a weekend job to a week job. I told him when we were leaving next week and that we would have to drive back from Milwaukee to get the bike for the airplane. He talked to his mechanic and he said he could have it back today. When I came back to get it a young woman helped me load it in to my car and was super helpful and made it quick and easy. I mean I just got a bike broken down and boxed but it made the person I love the most literally cry when her dream came true. It's just a bike, it's just a bike shop but goddamn sometimes a bunch of people really go out of there way to help it means something. So telling it here is the best I can do. Thank you guys.

I was able to ride a path behind the shop to get a feel and the workers here were very helpful and offered honest advice. Once I had the bike and put it together, I rode over and got it checked out to make sure I put it together correctly and they immediately were able to help me true the wheels and changed out a squeaky brake pad for me - free of cost. I'll definitely keep coming here and it's one of the reasons I bought a Trek!

Prices for repairs are competitive with the Madison bike shops. Most recently, when the shifter on my bike was giving my problems, they found a replacement and got my back on the road in less than 24 hours. (Unlike the Trek Store on the West side that was unable to address this same problem, but that is a story for another review). The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. They have made some minor adjustments to my daughter's bike at no charge on several occasions. The owner does seem to be on the phone a lot, so several times when I've dropped in I've had to wait for him to finish his call to get helped.

My tire was repaired and true the next day, bike has never tracked smoother. Oh, and it was less than $40 for three broken spokes and even more bent. Machinery Row couldn't help because of the size of my spokes but thankful for them recommending me to Cargo. Teamwork makes my bike work!

I…read morehad purchased a fat tire e bike online unknowingly with woefully underpowered brakes for a bike of its size. I had been having to have my brakes adjusted every 2 weeks at various locations that offer bike service on the west side of Madison. The various service departments (3) all told me that my brakes were inadequate but were unable to offer a solution. 2 of them did suggest Crazy Lenny's. They were right about that. Conner found me the perfect cable actuated hydraulic brakes. I already feel a lot safer and they should require a lot less maintenance. Kim in sales helped me schedule to have my bike picked up from a nearby bike shop in the Crazy Lenny's van. I had already arranged to have my brakes fixed; however, I got a flat near another bike shop. I had pushed my bike to the nearby bike shop. The other bike shop has a strict policy of not working on ebike brands that they do not carry and refused to fix my tire. Crazy Lenny's had my bike picked up and ready with brand new brakes installed and the flat fixed within 2 days. It probably would have been sooner if there wasn't a winter storm. I can't thank them enough! It feels like I have a brand new bike. I am pretty sure it rolls smoother than it ever has and certainly stops better. THANK YOU!

My latest visit was to help someone find boots that fit. Her build (short, strong calves) requires a wider boot cuff. Most boots don't fit, so we were getting panicked about finding her something. The gentleman helping us (didn't get his name) was extremely helpful. Most important, he was honest. While he said her situation isn't uncommon, they didn't have a lot of boots in stock, and unfortunately, didn't have one that fit her. I appreciate that he didn't try to sell us something, or to come back some other time in the distant future, etc. We had found a different place that had a boot that fit her - he suggested we get it. Service like that will get me to come back in next time I need something they offer. The store, otherwise, is clean and well organized. Their health precautions were extraordinary - we actually had to wait inside as they seemed to be limiting customers to how many attendants they had working. I had no problem waiting. Their selection is good. Prices can feel high - but they carry quality products. If you want cheap stuff, you'll want to shop elsewhere.
