Had a very positive experience today for a walk-in. I have been in the market for a tail light and came in to make a decision and pull the trigger. Lige was on the spot and helped me review two different models (I'm supremely pleased with the Bontrager Flare R by the way). He took the time to explain the pros and cons of each light, fit my bike with both models so I can get a feel for the dimensions and capabilities of each and never tried to offer me something I didn't need. Swift and efficient service and I was on my way in about 15 minutes flat. They've had a nice positive customer service approach every time I've visited. But I've had both good and bad experiences in terms of their sales staff expertise. One time more than a year ago I test rode a bike and the reach felt way too long. A guy there who claimed he was their informal fit expert was suggesting pretty odd ways of fixing the discomfort, such as rotating the bars up so that the hoods are closer to me, or moving the seat forward (which would mean that I'm no longer in the best position over the pedals). And the other young guys there at the time seemed to kind of defer to him. Clearly, the bike was just too big for me. But on another more recent visit I test rode a different bike, once again felt that the reach was long (a common problem for shorter people), and the guy there was very helpful in explaining the options to either try a smaller frame size or swap in a shorter stem. I've had no experience with their bike repair or mechanics, but they are probably good--but if you are buying a new bike from them make sure you are working with someone who will help you get a bike that fits you properly. read more

I had a really great experience buying a new bike here. They are clearly very busy especially as they just had a big sale, but the employees were trying very hard to make sure absolutely everyone was being taken care of. When they had a moment to spare, they would come over and play with my dog which just really made me feel welcome. Their bike fitter Lige clearly just loves biking and wanted me to be comfortable on my bike. He spent a lot of time with me trying different bikes and adjustments until I felt good about it. The sales person, Melayna, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She pushed us to take advantage of the sale which we thought she was just trying to sell more stuff, but when we looked on Amazon and at other bike brands afterwards, it was clear that the summer sale was offering us a great opportunity to stock up on good gear at a great price. I regret not buying more (should've listened to Melayna!). I know when I'm ready to buy my next bike, I'll be back here and hope to see the same friendly faces! read more

We needed a bike shop to receive and re-assemble our bikes after shipping them for our bike tour. They quoted a price, and tried to double it once they received our bikes. After a lot of arguing, they only jacked the price by $30. The re-assembly was okay, but when they re-packed them, they did such a poor job, two of them were badly damaged in transit. Bottom line, they don't honor quoted prices and don't take an appropriate level of care with customers bikes. Steer clear. read more

A nice big bike store with many friendly people... is how I would describe this store. I entered it a beginner bike-buyer, and left it as a well-informed novice bike-rider. A week later I ended up purchasing a used bike from craigslist, which I brought in and they STILL helped me by checking it out for good alignment and pumped the tires before I paid cash for it. When I asked whether I should leave it for tuning, they didn't leap at the opportunity to get my money. Instead the guy reassured me that I was purchasing a top notch bike and it was in great shape. I rewarded them by purchasing a ton of accessories: helmet, lock, clip-in shoes with cleats, etc. Throughout my week of shopping, I probably came through the shop 5 or 6 times and was assisted by just as many people. They even ordered a bike from another store for me to try out and called me when it was in. Everyone was helpful and very friendly! They even offered to set me up on the trainer to get used to clipping in and out of my pedals. Admittedly, if I were buying my bike brand new I would have gone next door to Pro Bikes, but that is simply because they had the bike I wanted and Revolution did not. This store carries a lot of Trek and Giant, whereas the Pro Bicycle Shop carries Scott and Cannondale. read more

Took my commuter bike in to have the tubes changed. I picked it up, paid a slightly higher fee than normal and when leaving heard a new sound coming from my bike when rolling it out. When I asked the staff about it, they talked down to me and dismissed my claims. Cut to 2 miles into my ride when my front wheel fell off, they had forgotten to tighten the lock bolts. Plus my break pads got messed up when the wheel dislodged. When I spoke with management they apologized, offered to fix their mistake but didn't offer to refund my service charges. When I insisted they refund the labor fees and fix it, Kara obliged but didn't prioritize getting my bike fixed first and let 2 customers ahead of me. 50 minutes later and my bike still isn't done. The only shining light of this experience is Yousef who is ensuring that the repair is done well and that I'm safe. Huge kudos to him but not to the rest of the staff or management that I've dealt with the past two days. read more

Service: Horrible customer relations! Last weekend I wheeled my mountain bike into their shop and asked about what they did for a tune up and how much they charged. They said they take the bike parts off, clean them and adjust them for $99. They also said that there was a two day turn around with no appointment necessary. I liked that and today brought the bike in. At the service desk their story changed and they upped the price by $50. They also said that the man who quoted $99 was from their sales team and not service so his comments didn't count. I did not like that and said please give my bike back and I will think about it. Also, I told the man that it would be nice for them to talk it over and share the same story so it would not change from one side of the store to another. Then, the Asian serviceman with a snobbish tone told me that there is another bike shop, rudely turned around and walked away!! Yes there are other bike shops and I will take my business there. I highly recommend that you do the same. read more

The staff and selection at this store is impeccable. Even though I ride 60cm bikes they could accommodate my needs and show me different models. John, the service manager, was extremely friendly when I purchased my bike. I had a small warranty issue come up 3 months after my purchase and John took away any concerns I had. Not only did I have my bike back within a week, I was set up with a loaner (that fit me) and was constantly updated on the repair status. One of the reasons I bought from this store was for the confidence I felt in having direct access to their customer service. They truly delivered it in a way I have not experienced before. read more

Great service. I rolled my bike in on Wednesday night (Halloween). It was pretty empty in there, which was great for me. They fixed my chain in no time, and gave me great advice about how to keep it from breaking again. They didn't make me feel like an idiot and gave me options to choose from. Needed my bike shipped from Washington, DC to California and honestly I'm very disappointed with the job they did. I took the bike assembled because I believed they would know best as to how to package it and make sure it was not damaged but boy was I wrong. The bike was damaged while in transit and there are screws missing! The quick release rod is also missing so how am I supposed to put the wheel back in? I now have to spend about another $150 to buy replacement parts and have my bike fixed. Atrocious! read more

Checking in post big staff turn-over... I went in this afternoon. The staff is still super helpful and not at all condescending or annoying (hello! angry dudes at City Bikes!). They offered to let me test-ride the bike I was considering buying (maybe I'll do that during a less traffic congested time of day). The assistant manager also looked online at the description of a bike that I was interested in buying (but that they didn't have it in stock) and compared the features to those found on bikes they do stock. I liked her advice a lot because if I decide to take it, then she'll have saved me BIG clams. Thank you for not talking me up to a more spendy bike that I would have had to special order. I totally trust her advice! The only reason I'm not giving "5" stars is because as Laura C. said, they don't have tons of bikes stocked. Oh and GTown parking--quelle horreur! The guys who work there are all really nice, which makes me feel bad about my feelings about this place. But they cannot be denied. They were out of all the bike parts I wanted. Simple things like a wire basket for my bike. The tune up was solid, but SO EXPENSIVE. Also they secretly added on services so after I had gotten over the initial shock of the $170 quote they gave me, I was really not pleased to have to fork over $200 bucks when I went to pick up my bike. I have a clunker, give me a break, nothing on that bike is worth that much... Dudes, gotta call a sister to okay additional services. Seriously. Not going back. The repair shop here made a small but careless mistake during a minor repair on my bike. I noticed it a short time later, and returned to the shop so that they could correct their work. Rather than apologize or make some admission of fault, it was the same smugness I got during the initial repair. I've had much better luck and more help at the other bike shops in town. I haven't lived in DC for about 3 months now, but my bike is still there, and since I'm visiting next week and really excited to see my bike, I got inspired to write about the store that began my love for bicycles. Revolution Cycles is amazing - not only do they have a great bike selection, but everyone that works there is really knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, funny, the works. I got a Women's Trek Hybrid there, and beat it up a few times thinking it could do everything that a mountain bike could, and the employees fixed it each time with bright-eyed smiles (haha). Plus, my bike is super cute. I get tons of compliments on it whenever I ride it, and some guy even asked if he could take a picture of my bike over the summer! The employees will teach you everything you need to know also about maintaining your bike. The location of Revolution Cycles is really convenient for when you're biking down the Canal Trail or Rockcreek Park, and they have all of the accessories that you can think of. If you need some inspiration to stop driving and start biking, I highly suggest this place. read more

I had purchased a bike from Bicycle Pro Shop, the other bike store on the block, a couple of weeks prior; however, when I came to them with the problems I was having with the new bike, they adamantly said they couldn't do anything. The refused to teach me anything without having an attitude. I'm a new bicycle rider, so when they didn't explain anything about how the bike worked, I actually ended up using the wrong gears and settings! Defeated, I saw that Trek Bicycles were right next door, so I went to ask them about their opinion on my situation. As I walked in, I was instantly greeted by a nice young woman, who I told my situation to, and she went to get her manager. Daniel came out and literally helped me with all of my problems and questions for about an hour! At no cost! He taught me about the settings, the gears and what pressure my bike should stay at. He never seemed annoyed when I asked all my questions. When he brought my bike back, the maintenance guy, Joe, noticed a bunch of problems about my bike, such as one of my mechanisms was installed wrong. My front wheel security lock had been put on wrong by Bicycle Pro Shop, the tire pressure was way too low and my basket had been put on to close to my bicycle seat. They fixed all of this because they wanted to help me! I needed to buy a bike kick stand and it was only $12 dollars and he didn't charge me for the installation fee! When I thought the kick stand was a little high, he immediately fixed that too. All I know is that the next time I need a bike, specifically the cute green one, I will definitely be going back to Trek and bringing all my friends their because of their amazing hospitality and customer service. read more

I had a bad experience with these guys last fall. I was out on the bike one sunday morning and I broke a spoke on front wheel in the middle of the ride. I was a long way from home, so I walked over to bicycle pro shop & revolution to see if one of the shops could help me out. I went over to Bicycle Pro Shop and the guy wasn't able to help (he didn't have the particular spoke I needed). He suggested that I go check out Revolution. Revolution still hadn't opened yet but there were a few employees in the store. After waiting outside the store for about 15 minutes, one of them finally came out but not to ask if I need any help. He locked up a bike and let me know that "the store wasn't opened yet" and basically shut the door in my face. The guy knew I was having mechanical trouble and didn't really care. I ended up walking the bike over to the metro and taking it home. Although I wasn't really expecting Revolution to open their doors and welcome me in. I did expect them to have the common courtesy to say they couldn't help. Moral of the story: Don't go to Revolution in Georgetown. read more

After testing the waters at several different shops around DC and getting scoffed at because I was only shopping for parts, G'Town's Revolution Cycles entire staff went above and beyond to help me find what I was looking for. They are the most knowledgeable and friendly bike guys in the city, whether you are buying a bike or customizing one. My first time at Revolution, Steve helped me pick out some risers to replace my stock drop bar. He showed me tons of options from their catalog, all while giving me comments and reviews and answering all of my questions. Eventually we found a great inexpensive bar and placed the order. I didn't feel guilty at all that I wasn't spending loads of money. When it came in later that week, they called to let me know. I was so satisfied with how helpful and friendly Steve had been, that I went back again to have him help me pick out a new wheelset. He remembered me right away and referred me to Dave, the wheel guy, who helped me order some wheels, spokes, hubs, and tires. He built them with impeccable detail as soon as they arrived. When I went to have them put on by the shop guys, Steve noticed my brakes were a little funky, among some other quirks, and he and Santi fixed them, while looking over the rest of my bike to ensure it was safe to ride and making adjustments as needed. All in all, I am beyond happy with my purchases and am even happier to know that a bike shop with such friendly customer service exists in my city. What a rarity. read more

I swung by the Revolution Cycle store in DC while shopping for a Hybrid Bike. The sales guy Chris was very patient and helpful. I settled on a Giant and bought my first Hybrid bike from them in April'08. Three months later I have finally hit the 20 mile mark on my week-end rides but at the cost of unusual knee pain. After doing my research online I came to the conclusion that a good pair of cycling shoes and pedals would help minimize this pain. My next service trip in June I approached Chris with questions. Chris being a good sales chap took the time to explain the different available options with their shoe and pedal selection. He must have spent not more than 10 minutes before his General Manager, Steve, swung by and instructed Chris, in front of me, to not spend any additional time helping me. For a moment I was shocked. I then informed the GM what he just did was wrong and disrespectful to me, a returning customer. He replied that he was short staffed. I responded that he should have explained his position rather than asking Chris to just stop helping me. Was I asking for too much here? Courtesy and respect, is that too much to ask? Here was a customer who had spend $450 a few months back but on his return trip could not avail of quality customer service. I asked the GM for his name and told him that I would be talking to customer service. This seemed to have annoyed him. He replied that he was the GM and that he had been at this store for 10 yrs. Honestly, I am a manager with Verizon and why do I care what's his position; I was a customer in the market to buy accessories and was expecting good customer service. He knew I was angry but instead of being apologetic he threatened to call the cops and have me thrown out of the store. I dared him to do it. I still cannot believe his arrogance. I am so angry that I have joined online forums to share my experience. I cannot expect much from a store where the General Manage does not respect his customer. I do not want to play the race card but yes I am colored. Since last week, I swing by "Spokes ETC" and purchased a new pair of shoe and clipless pedal. I will never go back to this store but am hoping their management reviews this incident to ensure it does not repeat in the future. I had an old, old mountain bike. The gears no longer shifted and there was no fender. It weighed as much as an iron horse. Iron Horse was, in fact, emblazoned on the side of this bike. And yet I was riding this faithful bike to and from work, to and from boyfriend's house, to and from everywhere in my WHOLE LIFE. I had become a bike commuter. It was time to upgrade. After the requisite Google research ("What type of bike should I buy?" I wanted to look into hybrid women specific designs. Revolution Cycles is 1. near my house and 2. sells these types of bikes. I got there at 6:30 PM on a Friday. I had a bike by 8:30 PM on Friday. It was busy when I entered, so it took quite a while for someone to notice that I needed help. One point of for that because I was a person with money to buy a bike, waiting for someone to give me a bike to buy, and I could very easily have walked out in that 20 minute wait. Once a mechanic/salesperson noticed me, however, they were all more than happy and willing to help, let me ride multiple bikes multiple times, answered all my questions, silly and not, Katie the manager was friendly, helpful, laid back, direct, and just overall fantastic. I would go back just to buy something from her. They stayed open past their 8 pm close time to make sure my bike was properly outfitted. They are awesome. After mistakenly buying a bike from Target, I decided that I most definitely needed to upgrade to a real bike. After searching for parking in Georgetown for about 20 minutes I went to revolution cycles. I told the sales person Peter exactly what I wanted and he didn't try to sell me a more expensive bike. I was able to go on the Key Bridge to do some 15 minute test rides on two different bikes. To do the test rides you must leave your driver's license and a credit card. I noticed while I was there that Speedy was the person to whom all the other employees deferred. So if you have questions he's the person to ask. I was pretty satisfied with my service but it didn't seem that they went above and beyond. The main problem is that they have a limited number of bikes to test. The bike I really wanted wasn't available in my size so I had to test a higher priced model. So I finally got my bike after waiting 2 more weeks than I originally thought. They had no real explanation for it. I wasn't offered anything for the wait. I spent 40 extra dollars on metro because I didn't have my bike. *edit* So I added a start for my 2nd experience. They fitted me with a new helmet so now i'm totally safe. They did a good job on my tune up as well. read more

Revolution Cycles is located on M Street right at the junction with the Whitehurst Expressway. I ended up parking along the street and I am not sure there is another option. This is a pretty great bike shop, especially for commuters. They have bikes ranging from the touring commuter style to time trial setups. There are many different sizes, which impressed me. I noticed bikes from Trek and Felt, but they have numerous other brands as well. There is a pretty good selection of commuter/touring supplies such as panniers. It's a very large shop and there is a reasonable level of stock bikes available. The sales personnel are okay. They are very friendly but I do not think they know their stuff as much as anyone from Freshbikes--but the two stores are really different. read more

Wow. I don't think I have enough superlatives to describe my experiences at Revolutions. Maintenance: Two-day turnaround for tune ups. Call Conte's or Performance and ask them what their's is...They prices are fair, work is excellent, and staff knowledgeable and honest. Selection: Keeping a large inventory of bikes is pretty costly but Revolution seems to have that down. While I haven't bought a new bike from them, they would certainly be my first stop next time I do. Service: Staff is generally pretty knowledgeable about most things. Since there are so many types of riding and rider, I don't expect them to know everything. However, the store manager (who's name escapes me right now) does know everything about everything in her store. Awesome. Prices: They are certainly more expensive that online retailers, but their prices are fair and definitely not at Conte's levels. My last experience: I went in for a bike fit and because of work/traffic, showed up an hour late. They were totally accommodating and the manager herself did my fit. She was so patient with me and explained what/why she was making each adjustment. While the fit could've lasted a half hour, I decided I wanted new pedals halfway through the fit so she let me try out a few different options. After making my final selection, we needed to start over on the fit and she didn't seem to mind at all. After two hours and long after the store closing, my fit was done. The entire time I felt completely relaxed and and not pressured to buy additional items. Great experience all around. read more

I figured these people had earned my business. I wasn't disappointed. They set up my bike while I waited (I don't have a car, so I needed to ride it home!) and have made several adjustments quickly.
