Over the past four months, I've been a regular customer at this store. During this time, I've purchased two bikes, several accessories, clothing, and even brought my best friend, who also ended up buying a bike. Unfortunately, both he and I have had consistently bad experiences with the staff. Most of the employees simply don't help. It feels like they don't want to work. When I bought my second bike, I also ordered an aero bar, and I was told that as soon as it arrived, they would install it for me. I've gone back twice already, and both times they refused to do it. Today, Thursday December 11, I arrived right at 10 a.m., being the first customer to walk in. None of the employees were busy, yet the only response I got was that "they didn't have time today." The service from Dino and the gentleman in the repair area was disappointing--they gave me attitude and refused to help, even though the store was completely empty. This is simply unacceptable. I will say there are two excellent employees: Tristan and Logan. They're always friendly, helpful, and willing to assist. Unfortunately, in my last visits they haven't been there, and when they're not, the service is terrible. This didn't happen only to me--my best friend had the same poor experience as well. After spending so much money at this store, it's frustrating to receive such unprofessional treatment. read more

Been a happy customer for a few years, and they repaired and updated my "old" Bosch ebike. Purchased in 2016 from others. Repair guy was always helpful and enthusiastic. But yesterday I took another ebike (2017, newer than my 2016!) ) and was told that it was too old to repair. (We bought the bike from them back when it was the "Bicycle Sport Shop" on Lamar, for $3000 plus). Not true of Bosch systems as a rule. I have a 2015 Bosch ebike as well, always smoothly upgradable by professional techs. The bike and the electric Bosch power train have traditionally been separate entities, which is the beauty of them. The guy who "helped" us was hostile and prickling with disdain. He informed us that using different Bosch batteries would invalidate the functionality of the bike. I have always used various Bosch batteries with my bikes and this is absolutely false. This guy couldn't wait for us to bugger off, but accepted to "look at" my "old" bike by next week sometime. Bad, bad experience and he is not a person who should occupy a position of interaction with clients. I am giving the two stars for the OTHER guy who helped me out in the past. He was great! We were going to purchase a new bike yesterday, but NEVER from them. I fully expect to retrieve the bike, un-repaired, and take it to my new repair shop. And for non-ebikes, or just the mechanicals of an ebike, I highly recommend The Peddlar. read more

This used to be Bicycle Sport Shop. Ownership changed and now the store is Trek only and selection is now very limited. All products are now Trek-centric (including Trek Brontrager, which some in the bike world call Bontrasher). Lots of empty shelves and lacking basics (no tubes anywhere visible, no Look pedals, micro selection of helmets...). Brought my Specialized in for some work. Service was SLOW to drop it off. First Kudo's to the Trek company. I rode a Trek 2100 for 32 years. After all those years the frame broke and Trek made good on the lifetime guarantee offering me a new frame that accommodated most of my old components or a very generous allowance to use towards a new bike! Second I want to thank Simone and the entire staff. Everyone is always cheerful and helpful. I had a hard time making up my mind on the type and model of a new bike changing my mind more than a few times. They always sincerely said it not a problem and said that they want to get me in the right bike. My plan going forward is to have a road bike for training and an ebike just for fun and making a trip without breaking a sweat. I'm using the warrantee credit toward an ebike. I picked up a lightly used 2014 Trek Domane 5.2 road bike and had it serviced (level 2 service) to get it cleaned, trued, and tuned. The service department was also very helpful and friendly. While I loved the old Trek 2100, my new to me 2014 Domane 5.2 has it beat with smooth shifting and road smoothing Trek IsoSpeed. read more

Stopped by just before closing 12/20/24 with a bike in need of adjustment and a brake part fix. Directed over to Kelly at service and was met with the most pleasant human being. Kelly was a kind and experienced technician, generous with his knowledge, explaining what was going on inside the components of the bike. Kelly fixed up my bike in minutes before they closed. It's so pleasant when you encounter a person who just wants to help others in a genuine way. I will be happy to give this store future business. read more

The people at this location are really friendly which made my service experience a good one. I'd never had my bike serviced so I wasn't sure what to expect. They were having a special on the service packages (they have 3) so I figured it was the right time. They actually got my bike taken care of a lot quicker than estimated. I was not made aware in advance that there was one additional part that I needed to pay for, but at least it was only a few dollars. Thankfully, just a tiny surprise when I picked up my bike. They have lots of bikes and accessories in the store as well. I'll definitely be returning for anything bike related now! read more

My wife recently purchased a trek gravel bike for my birthday. She was so impressed with the service that she has told me I'm not to go to another trek store other than this one. I took my bike in today to have pedals put on the bike . I was also able to get a good pair of cycling shoes . They spent a ton of time explaining my hike features to me and setting me up with new shoes and tools needed to maintain my bike. They were amazing read more

Called ahead to get my bicycle serviced and was told I didn't have to have an appointment and I could just drop my bicycle off. I decided to load my bike on my carrier and drive 20 min to this location during my lunch break. When I arrived I was told I had to wait 20 min until someone could talk to me. I asked if I could leave my bike with them and they could just call me and explained why I was in a time crunch. They told me they couldn't do that and I had to wait. Ended up leaving and wasting my gas and time read more

Stopped in and spoke at length with Dino. He took the time to let us know all the details that matter when deciding on a bike. The suspension, the brakes, the seat type, the types of handle bars, I really had no idea so much went in to a bike. He talked about the proper care of a bike and what products should be used. I like how he was very clear about bike safety and supplied my daughter with a helmet when she tested a couple of the bikes. He took the time to make sure if the bike was in stock. Went over the available accessories, bike Maintenance & safety equipment. After she took her " test drive" he asked how she enjoyed the bike and then suggested another bike she might prefer. He took the time to really listen to my daughter and find the bike that would suit her taste. He showed us the different levels of the brand we were looking at to ensure we would be able to make an informed choice. I walked away feeling very comfortable about our selection. I took my bicycle to Trek and they did the alignment at no cost and the person I worked with was super curteous and super helpful with additional info about bike maintenence etc. I highly recommend these guys!!! On Friday night, I drove down to ride the trails at Wulnet Creek Park before I went to San Antonio. Well, I'm new and bought a used bike and my quick released broke as it was worn unbeknownst. Meanwhile, I quickly got on Yelp and looked up bike shops and find this one off Research road. I called Lyft and was over there in no time and the staff was super helpful and got me back on the road. Special shoutout to Tristan, Dino, and Simone. I just had a wonderful experience buying a new Trek FX3 there. Long story short, the bike I initially purchased turned out to be not the right bike for me, and the Trek crew was awesome and patiently worked with me to find the right model and the right fit. They were able to switch out the bikes for me no questions asked and no additional cost (only list price difference, as is expected). Went to get my clips for indoor cycling and the guy who put them on my shoes was really nice, also I got there 5 minutes before they closed and they let me in and helped me, many stores complain when you get there 10 minutes before they close. I'll definitely put all my clips in here. read more

Wanted to share an experience which I hope is atypical and can be used for this staff to improve in the future. Went there with my son and wife to pick him up a bike and trade in his old bikes. When I arrived there were maybe 2 people in the store so that seemed like good news (if it was crowded we would have left). Everyone was very friendly and we were passed along to 2 people to assist us. While we were looking at bikes, our old bikes were in the service area being assessed for their trade in value. We spent over an hour looking helping my son figure out what kind what features he wanted. So good so far, but then it was the checkout process that ruined the trip. I can only guess that their service department got very busy due to a steady stream of customers coming in. In any event, the step about evaluating the trade in got missed so we had to wait. However, even though we were in the process of checking out, it seemed that they put us at the back of the line at the service department and that caused us to wait. We were offered drinks which was nice but spending 30 min standing at the checkout counter almost game be buyers remorse before I even left the store. Based on what Yelp calls 2 stars, I have definitely experienced better in terms of overall shopping experience. Austin is a fairly bike crazy town and I have been to many amazing shops with people that love sharing their love of biking. I hope this store which has been in Austin forever can provide a great shopping experience from start to finish. read more

Our first great experience with Bicycle Sport Shop was 3 years ago when they helped us pick the PERFECT bike for my 10 year old son. He has since become an avid bicycle rider and has grown about a foot taller. BSS has been there the whole way with quick safety fixes (no charge since we bought the bike there), advice, accessories, and help with his new man-sized bike. I feel so much better knowing that my kid is on a safe bike. Just brought our bike in last week for a new tire and safety check. The sign said two week wait but we had it back in two hours! My son was so happy! They are doing a fantastic job with masks and social distancing as well. read more

I went in specifically to buy padded cycle shorts. I really didn't know the difference between all the brands, but the staff was really helpful. I bought a pair...rode with them...hated them...and then returned them. They had no problem exchanging to make me happy! I now have the perfect pair. Love that customer service!! I just bought my 7th bike from BSS for one of my grandkiddos. Their knowledge and help is the reason I keep going back. The two sales people plus store manager - I believe her name was Simone - were great. I went in for one bike but listened to them and bought a different bike. Glad I did because it fit my granddaughter much better. Although covid has changed their business design, they still pulled it off professionally. I needed a new mountain bike during Covid and went to the Trek store, not knowing that they had bought out The Bicycle Sports Shop, and only sell Trek bicycles. I was fine with that since Trek is a brand I was interested in. Everyone I interacted with was top notch - very professional and knew their stuff! I fell in love with the first bike I rode. went to the Bee Caves location to pick it up since the Research location was out of stock, and they were equally professional. By far the worst experience I've ever had in a bicycle shop. The store on Research off 183 had several members of their staff be extremely rude to the point of yelling... All this poor customer service just to get a simple tube. Will never in my life return to any of their locations with such bad customer service. Turned my nightmare into a dream come true. So I have been riding an old mountain bike that I got from this store 10+ years ago. I took it into the store because it was making a noise. The customer service at this Bicycle Sport Shop is amazing! I received a new bike for Father's Day (my wife purchased it after lots of back and forth discussions with the staff at the shop). Eager to get it all set up, I visited the shop twice to "trick out" my bike - complete with lights, trip computer, bike trailer for my son, bike rack for my car, etc. Some of the accessories were purchased there, but many of them were not - but it didn't matter. The service staff spent a total of 4-5 hours with me over both visits installing everything, teaching me how to operate/tweak everything myself, putting together my bike trailer (which I had bought elsewhere), installing the bike rack on my car, adjusting the bike, and giving me general riding & safety tips. In my opinion - they went above and beyond what was expected. I left each time feeling like they cared about my experience and satisfaction - not about what or how much I happened to purchase. The Bicycle Sport Shop (on Research Blvd.) has certainly earned my business and my recommendation. read more
