    Tires- small selection

This used to be Bicycle Sport Shop. Ownership changed and now the store is Trek only and selection is now very limited. All products are now Trek-centric (including Trek Brontrager, which some in the bike world call Bontrasher). Lots of empty shelves and lacking basics (no tubes anywhere visible, no Look pedals, micro selection of helmets...). Brought my Specialized in for some work. Service was SLOW to drop it off. But Pete was nice.

The 32 Year Old 2100 Road Bike

First Kudo's to the Trek company. I rode a Trek 2100 for 32 years. After all those years the frame broke and Trek made good on the lifetime guarantee offering me a new frame that accommodated most of my old components or a very generous allowance to use towards a new bike! Second I want to thank Simone and the entire staff. Everyone is always cheerful and helpful. I had a hard time making up my mind on the type and model of a new bike changing my mind more than a few times. They always sincerely said it not a problem and said that they want to get me in the right bike. My plan going forward is to have a road bike for training and an ebike just for fun and making a trip without breaking a sweat. I'm using the warrantee credit toward an ebike. I picked up a lightly used 2014 Trek Domane 5.2 road bike and had it serviced (level 2 service) to get it cleaned, trued, and tuned. The service department was also very helpful and friendly. While I loved the old Trek 2100, my new to me 2014 Domane 5.2 has it beat with smooth shifting and road smoothing Trek IsoSpeed.

    The gravel bike I purchased.

My wife recently purchased a trek gravel bike for my birthday. She was so impressed with the service that she has told me I'm not to go to another trek store other than this one. I took my bike in today to have pedals put on the bike . I was also able to get a good pair of cycling shoes . They spent a ton of time explaining my hike features to me and setting me up with new shoes and tools needed to maintain my bike. They were amazing

My first experience with bicycle sport shop was when a friend of mine and I decided to rent road bikes for the day.

It has been a while since I have been in a store where every store associate is super helpful and go out of their way to extend next level service. When I was an avid cyclist, Trek Bicycle was known as Austin's most dependable and all-around bike shop with a wide range of cyclist customers. I went into Trek for a two-fold purpose: 1) buy new bike shoes and 2) inquire regarding the status of my bike tires that have been seating in the garage for years (new tires or new tubes). When you walk into the store, you are met with a sea of bicycles...every color and style imaginable. Fortunately, I do not need a new bicycle because mine is in good shape. So, first, I inquire about my tires. The repair specialist was so super helpful, and he assured me that my tires might be ok. He suggested bringing the tires into the bike shop so he could inspect them. Next, I headed over to the bike shoe area, which is small but importantly they were having a sale. I snagged some $120 bike shoes for $30...score!!! Also, the sales associate offered to order me some insoles since they were out in my size. Super kind... The store sells a wide range of Trek bikes, including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric models, along with associated accessories and gear. The sales associates are top notch - super knowledgeable and not high-pressure sales folks. Also, the bike shop is known for its bike rentals, especially for visitors wanting to explore nearby Lady Bird Lake trail or nearby neighborhoods. Next visit tire inspection...

Absolutely no pressure in sales and when you're spending $2k on a bicycle you want to feel like you're not being pressured to buy but being helped to purchase the right bike for you. Can't recommend the team here enough! Post purchase I came back in to get some adjustments and advice and the team was more than willing to take time to help adjust seat height and hood angle to get the right comfort fit. I was cross shopping a Canyon brand bike but you just can't put a price on having a brick and mortar to turn to for post purchase support and service. Highly recommend this store and Trek!

Mellow Johnny's was cool, modern & bright. This full service bike shop has quite literally everything you need. My friend bought energy supplements for a non-cycling event. Additionally, the staff was polite & answered all of my questions. Mellow Johnny's has a nice selection of bikes for sale , apparel, & other supplies. They were sold out of the more common sizes on the discount rack. However, I was pleased with my purchase. Prices are in line with what I pay in the Washington DC area. I would've rented a bike & jumped on a group ride if I felt better. Welp until next time!!

I let the sales person know the model and size I wanted and let him know I was interested in accessories, as well. He was terse and seemed irritated I called as he informed me that it wouldn't arrive until October (this is June). {2020} I asked if I could get it any sooner or if I needed to preorder. He, in a very frustrated tone and manner, told me that I could call other stores around the country and see if they would be willing to ship it to me. I tried to explain that I was asking so that I could find out the procedure to buy and was trying to find out if I needed to pay for it in advance or pre-order it. After he let me know I wouldn't need to pre-pay; I started to ask another question with the intention of seeing if he had suggestions on other bikes that might work for me. When he interrupted me again with frustration in his voice, I hung up on him. Maybe he misunderstood the phrase "Keep Austin Weird" as "Keep Austin Wired". I'm guessing there are no commission sales. Either way, I'm pretty certain I can locate the model I am looking for elsewhere... Even if it's in October, another city, or an online retailer. Update: {2025} I ended up calling a store in San Marcos next. They were amazing and I ended up buying several bikes from them over the next 5 years, whil sending all my friends from Austin to them. I was talked into going to Mellow Johnnies a few months back to get some supplies to help a friend with his bike. At least they maintained some consistency, their service was terrible. Whether you are a noob or an experienced rider, I'd find another shop.
