Really bad customer service! My wife and I went in looking for a bike for our 5 year old today and also to get a flat tire on her old bicycle repaired. The sales guy sold us on a $219 Trek bicycle for her. All good thus far, then I asked about a new adult road bike for myself. The sales guy immediately pointed out a $2,600 bike. I thought that was a bit excessive but then he explained why it's "the right one for me". I was starting to consider it. Just then the service guy walks over to me and says the old bicycle we had brought with us needs a new tire and tube, which, with parts, labor and tax would come to about $50. That old bike cost me less than $100 originally and since I was buying a new bike anyway, I told him I will skip the repair and to put the old tire back on the bike and give it back to me. The service guy says "Well, I'm going to return the bike with the parts to you, and you can put it back yourself." I was a bit stunned, and said it shouldn't take you more than a couple minutes to put that tire back on that bike - why can't you do that? Instead he responds "I have already put in 15 minutes into this job and can't put in any more time..." The "15 minutes" was a flat-out lie since the old bike was taken from me less than 7-8 minutes ago. Then I said "you realize I'm looking to buy a new bike from you guys, possibly two and you won't put the parts back on my old bike - the parts that you yourself removed?" He then says "if you will buy a new bike from me, then yeah, I guess I can put the parts back on". I almost went for that "deal", but then I realized what I was getting myself into. If these guys won't take 2-3 minutes to put a wheel back on my old tire, what happens if I spend almost $3,000 on two new bikes and then I have problems with those? They will likely ask me to fix those myself! I couldn't trust them. I finally told him "look, don't worry about putting the parts back on... I will take care of it myself" and we walked out of the shop. I later realized the guy didn't even give me back the tire valve on my old bike. Sure glad I didn't buy anything from them! Regardless, incidents like these leave a bitter taste in your mouth - if these guys had spent literally 5 more minutes getting my old bike back to me the way I handed it to them - they would have sold me 2 new bikes worth almost $3K. Talk about being "penny wise, pound foolish"! We won't be back here. Edit: someone named Eric responded to my above comment that the reason they did not put the tire back on the bike was that it was "unsafe" and indicated that this was "already explained to me". All I can say is, no one even mentioned the word "safety" to me while we were at the store. Instead, I was told they had already put in 15 minutes on the job and didn't want to put in any more time getting the wheel back on. The guy even had the audacity to suggest I take the parts and put it all back together myself. So, safety... really?? Needless to add, my original review stands as is! read more

Don't buy Trek bikes! Especially if you are not in the market to spend thousands. Bought a $500 bike and the chain rubs against the front derailleur. Took it in for an adjustment and got the usual bike snob reply about low end components, best they could do. Brand new bike. Why would Trek put their name on such low quality bikes? read more

First went to this shop a few years ago after a recommendation from a friend - this shop has a different feel from other shops - they are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and do everything in their power to ensure you are completely satisfied as a consumer. A few years ago I purchased my son his first road bike here and just this past week we're back for his first adult-sized MTB (which happen to be a bunch more pricey than the crappy "kiddie" bikes he's ridden the past few years). This was a very low sales pressure affair and the sales guys did a great job explaining all of the different options and not up-selling for the sake of increasing profits - they truly cared what was in the best interest of my son to ensure he is stoked on his cycling experience. Republic has a top-notch staff from its owners to sales folks to the technicians and everybody in between. I highly recommend this shop. read more

I am consistently impressed by the level of customer service offered at Republic Cycles. I witness it firsthand, and have heard similar anecdotes from fellow cyclists. Although this is perhaps Boulder's newest LBS, it feels familiar and comfortable when I walk in the door. Why? Steve and Eric, the new owners, retained Chris "the mayor" Arterburn and the wonderful sales & service staff, the former operation's lifeblood. These folks are extremely knowledgeable & helpful. They do everything reasonable to create customer relationships that will last for years--small business done right. From helping you get back on the bike quickly after a mishap to finding that esoteric bike part. And it remains a Trek dealer, bikes loved by my whole family. Boulder county residents enjoy a extraordinary number of LBSs per capita, but when we find a special store willing to earn our business we are truly spoiled. read more

Went into Republic Cycles to test ride a couple of bikes. After talking about which bikes I wanted to test out, they put my Vector pedals on the bike and adjusted the bike to fit me. The service was extraordinary! After riding the first bike, they quickly set up another bike while I was riding the 1st bike so that when I got back to the shop, they only had to put my pedals on and I was ready to ride. The mechanic even told me that I needed to have my Vector pedals serviced because the bearings were loose. Awesome group of people that make you feel right at home! read more

I own 3 bikes and recently bought a bike stand with the intent of taking-on some of the maintenance though I am not mechanically oriented or experienced. So no matter how many Youtube videos I watch, I often hit a painful dead end mid-project. And Republic on several occasions has gotten me going again without making me feel dumb, which is one reason for my positive review. My first project was to replace the triple chain rings and pushfit bottom bracket on my mountain bike to address chain suck. The helpful store manager ordered the parts for me and I received an email (which I prefer) when they quickly arrived at the store. I received some helpful tips from the bike techs on how to proceed, when I picked-up the parts, which I needed and appreciated. And what is important to me is that I felt comfortable though sheepish in returning to the shop, mid-installation, on a couple occasions, needing input on how to proceed. The techs effortlessly fielded my questions so that I could continue with my project, which was hugely appreciated, as that I had felt stuck. I still had issues with shifting after I completed the work on my mountain bike, so the new owner Steve, put my bike on the stand and showed me a new issue (with my front derailleur in the wrong position); he was so kind to take the time and to proactively share information with me about my bike - it was educational to learn of possible new issues and what the upcoming fix will be, so I can have that on my radar. And then concerning another of my bikes - my commuter bike with an internal rear hub - they helped me choose a chain with a preferred power link (as that another shop sold me a chain without a power link which is harder to install). And then when I was stumped on how to install the chain (which I thought was going to be straight forward at home). I returned to the store sheepishly asking how to proceed, and this time Andrea (bike tech) put my commuter bike on the stand and kindly walked me through how to install a chain with an eccentric bottom bracket. I had no idea that was a part on my commuter bike or its significance (again, as that I am just getting started with maintenance), but now I do! I truly appreciate the knowledge she went out of her way to share with me, such as how the installation can go wrong and the consequence of tightening a bolt too much - those sort of tips are invaluable to someone in my position as that I want to work on my bike but not break it. Also, everyone in the store - from the techs/mechanics to the floor reps - are approachable, knowledgeable and helpful; they recently switched ownership from Elevation to become Republic, and are definitely giving a good name to the 'local bike shop' term as that it is a place I am comfortable going (no matter how inane my questions are). And plus, just swinging by their shop, you may get to meet their shop dog, Huck - half black lab, half St. Bernard; he'll make you smile. read more

I purchased a new frame and fork from Republic Cycles this past Spring. Republic transferred all the parts from my old bike to the new. They did an incredible job of matching measurements from the old bike. The old bike was set up with a professional bike fit, so transferring that set up to the new bike was very important to me. Chris helped me with a small movement of my saddle to get my alignment over the pedals perfectly dialed. I've been in the shop several times since the purchase. The staff is always welcoming and curious as to how I'm enjoying my new ride. I highly recommend Republic Cycles. read more

I just picked up a Rocky Mountain Sherpa from Chris over at Republic Cycles and couldn't be happier with the service. They did a great job installing a seat dropper and new tubeless tires and took time to answer all of my questions. I also really appreciated how they special ordered both the dropper and the tires for me and didn't push me to get something they had in inventory. I would absolutely buy a bike from them again (plus they are at a great location, on the way to Walker, Hall, and Heil Ranch right off of 36 if you are driving from Denver. Even though I live in Denver, the staff at Republic Cycles won me over (even though I had a slightly cheaper offer for the bike from another shop). read more

I had a very unpleasant experience at Republic Cycles with a repair of a non standard bike. The shop person seemed knowledgeable and based on earlier experience with a previous incarnation of the store, I was relaxed about having them repair it. I returned a week later to find my bike had not been properly repaired and that the shop obviously had no idea how to do the tuning (an internal hub gear). Despite me remaining calm, the situation rapidly devolved with co-owner Eric accusing me of being untruthful and "just not happy with anything they did". I was stunned. I left and took the bike with me on my summer vacation. On first ride, the rear wheel jammed into the frame. Whoever repaired the bike didn't even tighten the nuts. The internal hub gears were still not working. I had to take the bike elsewhere to be repaired. To co-owner Steve's credit, he deducted labor costs, apologized for the way I was talked to, and sent me replacement of parts damaged during the repair (internal pull rod).
