Ok I don't give out 5 stars to any 'ol joe schmo, but this place must sprinkle some crack on top that seeps in and gets better like day old pot roast. I suppose this will be the first human food review, so I better do a good job. Here goes: We bought 4 cupcakes: 24 Karat, Dreamsicle, strawberry, and chocolate mousse. The carrot (24 Karat) was good--if you love carrot cake, you'll love the classic carrot cake base and the (not too sweet) cream cheese frosting. I also liked the crunchy gold something that was sprinkled on top (don't worry, it's not real gold or I need to be checked for heavy metal poisoning). It was a nice twist on the usual nuts or carrot shavings on top. Also there were no raisins in it, for those of you who care. The dreamsicle was another cupcake of the day. I personally wouldn't have chosen this because I'm not a fan of orange creamsicles. But I ate all my cupcake. It had a vanilla cake base and a zesty orange cream cheese frosting. Honestly, I didn't really taste the vanilla cake because the orange kinda over powered any flavor in the cake. I had to bite the cake alone to make sure it was vanilla. I think they use vanilla beans to get the flavor because there were little flecks of vanilla in the cake. Pretty yummy, but they probably could have backed off the the orange a ting. Ok this is where I got full. I ate the strawberry and chocolate mousse the next day. But guess what? THE CUPCAKE WAS STILL GOOD!! This makes me happy because a lot of times cupcakes get kinda dry and nasty when they're left out for a day. These cakes were still moist and I would have never known they were left out for a day. Moving forward, the strawberry had nice nice chunks of strawberry in the cake. The strawberry frosting was quite yummy too. Reminded me of Sprinkles strawberry cupcakes! Up to this point, I hadn't eaten all the frosting off the cupcakes and I've been damning this place with faint praise. But the chocolate mousse is what gives this place 5 stars. O-m-g. I want to eat this for every meal. The chocolate cake was rich, and they even fill a bit of the cake with the mousse. SO good. They even put chocolate shavings on top. They don't put frosting on top, it's mousse (I think). So, it's light and fluffy and reminds me of pudding. Holy crap, day old chocolate cupcake was magical. I need another one. Now. Ok at this point you've probably checked out. I'm going to try and wake up and eat their breakfast options, but no promises. Oh and cupcakes are $3.25 ea. read more

Wasted Calories. The above is my two word review. Below are some more details. I went against my better instincts and bought 4 cupcakes here as it was right next door to the fro yo place my kids were at. The cupcakes were only OK. And they were pricey. The plus is that they are on the larger side for cupcakes. However, all of them had way, way too much frosting. A leaning tower of frosting. Frosting was ok, but not amazing. Ordered the gluten free chocolate (which had a good texture and rich chocolate flavor but did not like the frosting), the Italian cream (Italian I think not -just a vanilla cupcake with nuts), the Amaretto (almond cake with amaretto frosting -this one was the best), and the Coconut cream (not enough coconut flavor). Oh man! Treat! is one of the best spots for cupcakes in Houston. I've never had anything that wasn't amazing there. The cupcakes are always fresh. The s'mores cupcake is my favorite although they had a seasonal one that was Mexican hot chocolate flavored and I wish I had bought a whole box of them!! Ordered a pupcake, a sugar free vanilla cupcake, and a keto cheesecake for my parents and their pup. They were all very pleased! The sugar free cupcakes had a frosting that was closer to whipped cream than a typical frosting. She described it as "different, but not in a bad way" and afterward said she quite enjoyed it and would order it again. My dad really liked the keto cheesecake. It came in a little glass dish, which was a nice touch. The pupcake was devoured in seconds, including the little treat on top. Lily approved. The offer vegan and gluten free options as well. The reason for four stars is that the ratio of icing and cupcake are a little overzealous. I sort of need two cupcake bottoms to go with all that frosting. They offer a selection of regular flavors like Strawberry, Red Velvet and good ol' Chocolate (which also comes in a gluten free/vegan option). Absolutely loved this little cute shop. When you walk in, you are just overwhelmed with cuteness from the unique cupcake display to the beautifully wrapped cookies and desserts. I got a Red Velvet cupcake and it was absolutely delicious. The cake itself was very, very moist and flavorful....and just delightful. Loved the cream cheese frosting...it was just right and I liked the swirly nature of the topping. It's $3.75 for one cupcake, which I now is pricey, but it is worth it! I've been going to this place for probably 2 years now every time I crave for some cupcakes. I've bought so many dozens of cupcakes as gifts from them before. But on my special occasion, my baby shower, I wanted to inquire if they can do customized pink icing with rainbow sprinkles on the dozen or so cupcakes I plan on ordering. The woman on the other line heaved a sigh like I'm asking for something so hard, and asked me "have you been to our store before?" I told her yes many times. We then settled on what they can do on the cupcake decor, then she gave the phone to another person to get all the information. I thought that that was a rude way to help someone. If you cannot do what a customer is asking for, you don't have to be rude about it. That would be the last time I buy anything from this store. 11-22-2015 Update--- Since writing this review, I've got a handful of other women who complimented on my review and told me they had the same bad experience with a certain cashier who was exceptionally rude to them. I really hope that this lady has been let go...they really don't have room for rude service when they're also dealing with extra emotional bride-to-be's as a large part of their customer base. During my last visit, which inspired this review, the lady who worked as a cashier was outright rude. She didn't even try to mask it! It seemed like she goes through life with a fist in the air because she kept a complexion that made me think there was something rotten under her nose, and I was it! But I've kept coming back because I'm addicted to their Italian Creme -- it's the coconut shavings and creme combination, I tell ya! Seriously, this could have been an easy 4 star review had it not been for that cashier. Ok, this review is for the 'pup'cakes only. Hopefully soon I can stop back in and have some human food. We stopped in after already eating way too much sugar just to check the place out. I haven't been spending very much time with my dogs, so when I spied the pupcakes I figured I'd get them each one. However, I knew they'd just woof it down (get it?) in one bite and look at me for something else. I was shocked when I gave them to my dogs and they actually had to chew the things. The looked and smelled like peanut butter, so I knew my dogs would love them, but they were obviously baked to a good consistency for dogs to be able to chew on for a few moments and not just swallow whole. The dogs followed me around for a long time after eating them, so they were obviously very delicious to a dog. At 1.50 each (including tax) they were slightly pricey for a regular treat, but next time you want to spoil your man's best friend, give these a try. read more

I have held off writing a review of this place, because I really, really wanted to like them. However, after multiple visits I can safely say, Treat! is not a treat. This review is for the cupcakes only. Treat! does carry a small variety of other sweets to which I cannot review due to never having tried them. This is the reason for two stars. We have previously tried six different flavors, including birthday cake, German chocolate, their pecan pie, and 24 karat. All of the flavors have repeatedly proven the cake portion is WAY too dry. I mean desert dry. One glass of milk is not enough. They are also super dense. IMO cupcakes should be moist and fluffy. These are muffin-like. To compound the dry problem, the "icing" (which is a massive heap so high you cannot take one full bite) is so sweet it hurts. Literally, it gives you a toothache. There is also not much flavor difference in the icing between flavors. To boot, these cupcakes will run you about $4.00 a piece. Sorry, Treat! I gave you more that enough opportunities to make a decent cupcake. I commend you for trying out different flavors (24 karat, key lime, etc.) but you keep missing the mark. read more

The cupcakes are good but they have a lot of icing on them but the cake part of the cupcake is delicious. Treat closes at 8:00 pm, even on the weekends. So you can't even go there for a dessert after dinner if you're in the area. Luckily, my girlfriends and I had finished dinner just in time that when we arrived, it was 5 minutes to closing so they gave us our cupcakes for FREE and a 3 more cupcakes each for free and breakfast muffins! We hit the jackpot that night! I must say their breakfast muffins are the best thing they make. Warm them up in the microwave and add some butter and you'll be in heaven!!! read more

My job brings me to Houston numerous times a year and I have tried all the big cupcake names in the town. I stumbled across Treat! after having dinner in Vintage Park and decided to get a cupcake to go. I ordered a strawberry cupcake and took it back to the hotel and had it for a snack later that evening. I was not impressed. The cake had a decent flavor of strawberry but wasnt very moist. The icing had an overdone cheesecake flavor and the outside was pretty hard then only a little softer in the middle. I was very disappointed and after two bites, threw it in the garbage. I gave this review three stars since the lady working the counter was extremely helpful and friendly, she gave me a plastic fork with my cupcake before I even had to ask and the display case was beautifully arranged. read more

Honestly the best cupcake I've had in the Houston area. We've tried several places trying to find something as amazing as "The Cup" where we moved from which has the most amazing cupcake known to man and haven't found anything close yet. We've tried a few cupcake places around town (both ITL and OTL) and so far I've been either shocked by their poor quality or poor taste. The highest rated cupcake shop ITL which everyone raves about had some of the worst tasting cupcakes I've ever had in my life. There was nothing cakey about the cake and the icing on each that we tried were horrendous. We just happened upon Treat one day while driving through the Vintage on our way to go grocery shopping and are quite delighted to find what I consider to be the best cupcake we've had so far in the Houston area so close to home. I get that everyone has their own taste in cupcakes and preferences... but these actually have the taste and texture of a cupcake and we haven't had a flavor yet that wasn't great. Still not quite like what we got where we lived before, but as good of a replacement as I expect to find. read more
