Chocolate Fondant cake with chocolate buttercream filling.
Amanda C.

Louis came to the rescue with my request for a cigar cake (at the last minute) for my son's 21st birthday!! With a few pictures of what I had in mind, he made it exactly how I envisioned it. He was professional by recommending the size of cake for the number of people to serve. It was not only a beautiful cake, it tasted very delicious! It also stood the 3hr drive to Waco. Everyone complimented on the look and flavor. We will most definitely be coming back!!

Toilet paper/quarantine birthday cake for my hubby
Phoebe A.

I ordered a 6" toilet paper roll cake for my husband's 40th quarantine birthday gathering and it went above and beyond my expectations! The toilet paper fondant even had this delicate, embossed texture/appearance that so closely resembled the real thing. It was so beautiful that I lamented that we'd have to cut into it--I mean, how dare we deface a work of art?! But get this: it wasn't just nice to look at.. it was delicious too. The verdict was unanimous. I called and placed the order on a Wednesday, and since I needed it by Saturday, I was kind of worried that it was too short of a notice.. but she fulfilled my order on time with ease. The entire transaction was so smooth. It was the best $50 that I've spent in a long time. Alma's Cakes = WIN

Surprise celebration Birthday for co-Worker!!!
Jarvas H.

Today i was amazed by the moistness, creativeness, and quality of the cake that I ordered for my co-worker's Birthday. We ordered a chocolate cake with the cream icing and a graphic design to be placed on top and my office gave great ooooo's and ahhhhh's as they took ever several bites. When ordering for future holidays, birthdays, and special occasions I will be revisiting. This is definitely the place I put my 5-star stamp on!!!

Strawberry cake

Mrs Alma is one of the sweetest business owner I have ever met! She is really easy to work with and very straightforward. I ordered a toilet-paper like strawberry cake, she delivered it with beautiful detail and overall look, my family was blown away by it. She put personalized message that i requested without issue. The price of the cake is really affordable and worthy, it was $50 for 6 inch beautifully done 5-layer strawberry cake with detailed fondant, it can be for 8-10 tall slices of cake. Taste was delicious for me and my family, though if you dont like it sweet, you can ask to reduce the sweetness level. I will definitely re-order the cake from Alma's cake! well done!

Thanks To Alma's Cakes for this beautiful and delicious graduation cake for my daughter who graduated from SHSU. she also baked a high school graduation cake for my daughter with her photo on top of the cake which looked exactly like the picture, the colors were perfect. I received so many compliments about this cake. Alma's Cakes Staff are professional, kind and friendly. Love it

Love Alma's Cakes! I have used their bakery for my wedding, baby shower and several of our son's birthday parties and was never disappointed. Reasonable prices and very friendly people.

My family and I have been loyal customers of Alma's Cakes for yearsssss! We've ordered all kinds of cakes for every occasion you could think of.. (birthdays, baby showers, graduations, etc.) Our most recent experience has left a bad taste in our mouths. This go around, I decided to order a cupcake cake for my husband's and brother in law's 30th birthday. Alma made the number '30' out of 15 cupcakes, and I ordered an additional 6 cupcakes on the side. I was charged $3 per cupcake in the box, even though she sells the same exact cupcake (shape, size, and flavor) for $1.50. She justified this by saying she placed the cupcakes in the shape of a '30' and that requires special work. If you look at the picture I've included, you can see the work is nothing above what a kindergartener could do as far as placement. The cupcakes weren't iced together in a special fashion or anything that would justify charging double for each cupcake. In total, I was charged $55 for 21 cupcakes. Although it is good tasting cake, there is nothing premium about about the cupcakes..basic vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate cupcakes with a dollop of buttercream on the top. If you'd like a cupcake cake from Alma's Cakes, my advice is to buy the cupcakes by the dozen and arrange them yourself once you leave. I'm afraid you've lost a few loyal customers over this.

I have been using Alma's cakes for all my special occasions and they never disappoint. My family loves your cakes! Thank you Alma and your staff for always doing a great job.

So pleased with the outcome of my birthday cake. 35 years ago my mom always had my birthday cakes made from a lady that is no longer with us, I brought in a pic of what I was looking for and alma was able to nail the design to a T. I did add fresh strawberry filling that I never got as a kid and it was well worth every penny. This bakery is super meticulous and organized, if you are looking for perfection this is your spot, you will not be disappointed. The two photos I will add is my cake 35 years ago and the one Alma did.

Alma's makes the best cakes! We have used them for countless celebrations and will continue to do so. Their cakes not only look great, they are also moist and delicious. Whenever we stop in, we are always greeted like we are family. They will work with you to try and keep you within your budget but also get you the creation you are looking for.

I loved my birthday cake, once again thank you for a delicious cake. I had a design in mine and you made it happen. Can't wait to order another cake from you!

You can't get any better cake than from Alma's! Does that make sense? Ha. My aunt and I discovered Alma's via Internet search and decided to buy a cake from them on a whim. I needed a huge cake for a baby shower. The cake turned out perfect and so delicious! It was beautiful, moist, sweet, the right amount of icing and just what I wanted! The only minor flaw was that they spelled the baby's middle name wrong on the cake but it wasn't a big deal. (See the 3 pictures I added of the cake I ordered for the shower.) Ever since that great experience, my aunt has been buying cakes and pies from Alma's Cakes for every Christmas party every year and some other random get-togethers in between. We're a good customer of their's! And did I mention they are very reasonably priced?! I mean...cheap! My huge baby shower cake was only $50! You'll definitely be satisfied with anything you buy from Alma's! Also, don't be turned off by the location or building Alma's is in. It's kind of old and run-down but you definitely can not judge their cakes and service by that alone! Please...don't!

Best tres leches cake in Houston!
Angelica M.

Let me tell you, when Alma says she has the best tres leches cake in Houston, she is not lying! Not only are her cakes awesome, but they are some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. We've been ordering cakes for our children's birthday parties for several years now. We have 3, so that is 3 cakes a year, and we have been happy every single time. We even ordered my sister in law's quinceanera cake from her. All of our orders have always been completed on time. They are always flawless. She has even gone out of her way several times to make suggestions on the designs even if it makes the cake a bit more difficult to make. We've also ordered pecan and pumpkin pies during Thanksgiving which were also the best we've had. They are a bit pricier than most bakeries, but I think their service is worth it. I definitely recommend this bakery to anyone. Not just for cakes, but they also have cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake bites (yum!), and other goodies you can walk in and purchase.

I searched on Yelp, and this was the first bakery that came up! I arrived around 5ish, and after reading the reviews, I was worried they might have already sold out for the day. Luckily for me, they still had some left! I asked if they had pineapple buns as well, but the gentleman told me those had sold out around 11 a.m. He recommended arriving about 30 minutes after opening next time to make sure I could get some. Anyways, I managed to snag 6 egg tarts, and they were so, so, so good! They were perfectly flaky and creamy and definitely hit the spot. (I ate two before making it home, so that's why only 4 are pictured.) 5/5 for customer service. The owner(?) and the person who rang me up and gave me advice were friendly. Anyway, I finally got a chance to stop by on a Sunday late morning recently. Parking can be difficult, but there are dedicated Koffeteria spots in front of the business as well as surrounding paid curbside parking. I believe Instagram helped many others discover this business recently, as it was pretty packed and there was a line, but this gave us ample opportunity to peruse the menu and pastry display. Ultimately, we opted for the: Cambodian iced coffee (kayfe dahkoh) made with sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk - tasted very similar but weaker than Vietnamese coffee. As I'm Viet and have never had Cambodian coffee, this was my only frame of reference, and I didn't love it. I'm excited to try more Cambodian coffees to get a better understanding of their unique flavor profile! Black sesame mochi - sweet and perfectly sesame flavored with salted yolk at the bottom, delicious, my partner's favorite pastry Beef pho kolache - the bun was so soft and complemented the soft but flavorful brisket meat. wow. truly a brisket pho in a kolache. We got extremely lucky and got a table almost immediately after ordering, as someone left just in time. The interior is full of vintage furniture, which added so much character. As a vintage lover, I felt so at home! I could see how others might prefer a more neat, chic interior, but to me this was absolutely perfect and added so much warmth, homeliness, and character to the shop. Absolutely love this coffee shop and will 100% be back to try more pastries and coffees. Immediately, this has become a new Houston favorite!

He's a chocolate lover so I decided on the Black Forest cake for him which is one of their specialties. I ordered the night before for noon pickup and paid online which was a pretty easy process. Beware parking here at busier times - when I visited on a Saturday at 1:30pm it was mayhem. On entering, I saw an array of desserts and savory items. I decided to also pick up a savory kolache-type pastry (I never got the name of it) and the cake! The employee was quick and helpful - she located the cake, showed me the design and lettering to make sure it was ok before I left. The cake was a huge hit! We loved the light sponge cake with layers of whipped cream which were light and not too sweet. Then layer of cherries was lovely. The fruits on top were fresh and nicely arranged. The appearance was gorgeous as well, with chocolate shavings delicately arranged on the outside. We were not too impressed by the kolache. I was also able to try their pandan cake slice on another visit and loved the flavoring, lightness of the cake and the icing was very tasty. The blueberry cream cheese danish had a healthy and generous amount of blueberries. It was flaky, and the cream cheese flavor was not overwhelming or artificial. The spinach pastry was also flaky like the others and had a good spinach and cream flavor.
