Always wonderful for an intimate dinner with friends: I've tried everything on the dinner menu, all tasty and scrumptious. Love the BYOB (no corkage), complete with floor-standing wine coolers, when needed. Charming rear-garden seating a plus on summer nites......always great, attentive service, not pretentious. Get a WFMT member's card for dinner discounts, well worth it and good every night they serve dinner (not Sunday) Easy, neighborhood parking and convenient Foster Avenue bus-stop in front. Delightful! This place is great, I took my parents here they are big time foodies. We were there an hour or so before the full menu was on. We had the duck breast which was exvcellent not over done pink in the middle. The Herring in the mustrad sauce was awesome. The cucumber salad reminded me of my friends prawn bbq in Malmo. I have been eating at this restaurant for years and I never grow tired of it. I highly recommend both breakfast and lunch. As a kid, I grew up on the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries and the Belgian waffle, served with a delicious heaping of whipped cream, fresh strawberries and bananas and sometimes even blueberries. As an "adult", my new personal favorite is the Oslo omelet, made with salmon. For lunch I would eat any of their quiches because they are all amazing. I'm also a big fan of the open-faced meatball sandwich. Even the tuna fish sandwich, which you would expect to be boring, is absolutely delicious. You must also try the cinnamon rolls and danishes. Some people don't like the citrus flavor of the cinnamon rolls, but I think it only adds to the flavor. As for the danishes, actually imported from overseas, I highly recommend the maple-pecan, though they are all delicious. The service has always been friendly. In the past most of the waitstaff actually hailed from Sweden, though in recent years it appears that some college students from neighboring North Park University are working there. If you go on the weekends during brunch time, expect a wait, but take up the waitstaff's offer of visiting the Sweden Shop a few doors down while you wait for your table. It's a cute store, and they will call the store to let you know when your table is ready. Also, this is a great restaurant for those with small children and you will always see families here. I've now been to Tre Kronor for dinner and Sunday brunch, both of which were amazing. I agree with Alicia S., this is a more traditional Swedish restaurant than Anne Sather. Their seafood dinners are fantastic - anything salmon is a good choice, and the Swedish meatballs are delicious. For brunch, the Salmon Dill Quiche was absolutely perfect, so were the Crabcake Eggs Benedict. But what I have to mention are the Swedish Pancakes. What set's Tre Kronor's apart is the lingonberry sauce. Where other lingonberry sauces are often too sweet and jelly-like, Tre Kronor's is a perfect balance of sweetness and tart lingonberry bite, and more of a true 'sauce' which runs all over the pancakes in a delicious way. On top of all of this, my sister's car got a flat tire on a side street near the restaurant, and a really nice guy came out to help her change the tire. Turns out he was the owner of Tre Kronor. So not only is it a great restaurant, the owners are great people. read more

Went here for brunch with my folks. I loved it! I got the salmon and dill quiche. The crust had the perfect combination of buttery flakiness and crunch. The salmon wasn't overpowering and the eggs weren't too dense. My mom got the belgian waffle, which was topped with tons of fresh whipped cream and fruit. I had a bite and it was great. I really loved this spot, and I think if I lived in Chicago I'd probably come here all the time for breakfast/brunch. read more

I tried the crabcake benedict, some type of omelette, and their cinnamon roll. The crabcake benedict was the best, but portions were overall smallish for the price ($13). The cinnamon roll was a big disappointment, but maybe this is the Scandinavian way. It had very little cinnamon and a very strong citrus flavor to it and raisins. The interior was cute, though, like a ski lodge in the Alps, but it's somewhat of a narrow restaurant, and the tables are really close together, and there is very little space for people in the front waiting for tables. The tables and floors are unfinished wood - very rustic looking. There's also a gift shop across the street. So I made my way to little Sweden on a gorgeous fall day and was not disappointed. The food was great! I mean they fly their danishes form Denmark! It really doesn't get better than that. The danish was warm and literally melted in my mouth. I'd go back for that alone. They also had an amazing variety of eggs benedict (crab cake, smoked salmon, etc.) and I was informed that their hollandaise was made from scratch. While I didn't get a chance to try the waffles, they looked amazing! They were piled high with fruit and whipped cream. The decor of the place was also very cute and homey. The best part about Tre Kronor is that, unlike other famous breakfast places in Chicago (i.e. Ann Sather, Walker Brothers), you can get in the door on a Sunday morning without waiting half an hour or more. Oh be still my ever beating gluttonous heart! This place is the perfect Sunday brunch spot if I can crawl out of bed early enough 'cause there's sure to be a line. If you can, snag a danish-get the vanilla-sooooooo good when it's fresh out of the oven all flaky, warm and fragrant. The waffle is ginormous and topped with fresh fruit and cream but my favorite is the Anders' Hash and Eggs (hand cut corned beef is the way to go baby!) with fresh fruit on the side. The downstairs area tends to get a little crowded but try to get a glimpse of the upstairs if you can-especially that awesome lion clawed bathtub right smack dab in the middle of the bathroom. The service has always been top notch, the people are genuine and friendly (since most of them are nice college students from across the street) and the prices have always been fair for the past 10 years I've been going there. And if you're lucky enough, get a patio seat when it opens up weather permitting. Here's to good eating! read more

Hmm, I thought I wrote a review for this place already. Apparently not. So anyway, we went here for brunch at a friend's suggestion (with that friend). My fiance is of Swedish descent and has a (not so) mild obsession with Swedish pancakes, so why not. My friend ordered the herring for us to share and it was...interesting. A little too out there for me but we ate it anyway. I followed my friend's lead and also ordered the salmon and dill quiche. I love those flavors and it didn't disappoint. The fresh fruit it came with was just as fulfilling. The coffee was also delicious. The bees that lurked everywhere outside were a slight nuisance but it ended up not being that bad since they chose to stay in the flowers instead of in my food. Oh, and can you guess what my fiance ordered for brunch? All in all, we all left full and satisfied! read more

Mmm so good! The food is really light and delicious. The meatball sandwich is amazing. The specials of the day are usually a good bet as well. The last time I went, it was a grilled chicken breast sandwich with mozzerella. It was excellent. I really like their sides as well. The cucumbers and potatoes in particular are very good. The Swedish sodas are also really good (I wishI knew where to get them) because they aren't super sweet or overly carbonated. I need to come here for breakfast sometime-- and dinner for that matter. Oh, and the danishes are amazing. The cinnamon roll is fantastic as well. This is probably one of my favorite places to grab a nice light tasting meal. read more

Although this place is not very close to my home, I was excited about checking it out. I went on a weekday morning. Street parking was ample and we were seated immediately. We ordered a cinnamon role to start, which was delicious, as was their coffee. I then had the spinach and mushroom quiche and my friend had the salmon and dill quiche. My Brunch Club visited Tre Konor a few weeks ago for our January brunch. One of my friends showed up carrying Starbucks and the waitress said that she had to "confiscate" it. In fact, she used the word "confiscate" four times during the discussion, re: a $4.00 job of coffee. The waitress seated the rest of our group while my friend stood outside in the freezing cold to finish her coffee. Then they messed up her order on top of it -- she ordered a bowl of soup, but received a cup of soup. She was offered another cup "at no charge," which she politely refused. It's a bit of a trek up here but it's totally worth it for brunch. We went on a Sunday around Noon and didn't have trouble getting a table. Everything looked and smelled great. It's very inviting inside, almost like you're in someone's home. The vanilla orange french toast was delicious -- I wish I could have eaten the whole thing...but I also ordered an omelette. I had to try a little bit of everything! I like that they offer a lot of unique specials as well. The service was very friendly and we didn't feel rushed at all. Went here for Sunday brunch with the boyfriend. We couldn't decide what to get so we decided to split our meals with each other. We ordered the Belgian Waffle with the fresh fruit and the corned beef hash with a scrambled egg. Both were out of this world fantastic! The whipped cream was freshly made and not overly sweet and the waffle was nice and soft. The corned beef hash had great flavor. The only thing I didn't like was the strawberry French soda I ordered. It was just to sweet for my taste. This place is small and the kitchen is small too. So there is a bit of a wait for food. But, it is well worth it! read more

Visited late morning for brunch. Both the breakfast and lunch menus were available. The ambiance was quaint with Scandinavian pictures and prints throughout. Some Swedish guests that were sitting near us commented that they made them feel at home. It was a great place to have a leisurely breakfast and enjoy conversation with friends. We enjoyed the corned beef hash and both an apple and raspberry danish. The generous portion of corned beef hash was outstanding. Made from scratch. The thyme seasoning was prominent. It was cooked nicely and not at all mushy or overcooked like the kind you get in a can. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly. You can request the hash as a side, if you don't want it with eggs. The pastries were served warm. Exquisite crust with buttery flaky layers. The coffee is average to above average but not the reason to return. Very attentive and friendly staff. Cozy Scandinavian restaurant with fantastic food. Unlike most people, we came here for dinner. Ordered home-pickled herring for appetizer--it's not stinky as people say lol. Salmon and rainbow trout for entrée, both perfectly seared, with potato casserole and greens. They also serve free, European style baguette and crackers. Everything terrifically yummy. Service is also very nice. They don't serve alcohol though, but you can bring your own booze. Would definitely come back! read more

I LOVE this place! It's like the real-deal for Scandinavian fair in Chicago. You must try the corn-beef hash and potatoes for breakfast, the Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes for dinner and their salmon is fantastic. Coffee is always hot and the Swedish pancakes are the best this side of town. Watch out for Sunday's though - a lot of church goers from North Park take up seating from early on until noon. We came here on a Saturday night, roughly 9pm. It was me and my fiance's date night. We'd recently been given some nice crystal champagne flutes, so we brought those and a nice bottle of champagne. We loved this place. It's not fancy, but it's just plain good. Neither of us had ever tried Scandinavian food outside of crappy Swedish meatballs. We both got different fish plates, and both were absolutely amazing. I got a rainbow trout, and she got some fish I can't pronounce, but it was delicious. It was around 9pm when we got there and we were the only patrons, but after a while, 2-3 more parties showed up. The waitress was so nice, and very charming. I don't remember her name, but she said she was originally from Slovakia. I hope she's there the next time we go. I hear great things about their brunch, so we'll probably try that next. read more

No prior mention of this reservation and no explanation as to why #1 spot didn't mean next to be seated. A big disappointment in how the situation was handled. read more
