Luscious cinnamon rolls. Not as big as your head, but close.
    Carl D.

For me, no visit to my home town of Chicago is complete unless I've done two things: eaten some Polish food (preferred: pierogi) and made a pilgrimage to Ann Sather. On my last day in the Windy City, I hopped aboard the Red Line "L" train just outside my hotel in River North and headed to the Belmont station, then walked about a half-block east through snow flurries to my favorite Ann Sather location at 909 W. Belmont. There are also two other locations: on Broadway and Granville. Walking in, I was seated immediately and brought water and a menu. My server was right over to ask if I knew what I wanted or needed a minute. I took the time to peruse the specials, then decided the sampler plate would be just the thing. It came with one Swedish pancake with lingonberries, one egg, a Swedish meatball, a link of Swedish potato sausage, home fries and not one but TWO cinnamon rolls! Over the years, I've referred people to Ann Sather with the quip that they have "Cinnamon rolls as big as your head!" Perhaps they've scaled things down - they don't seem to be as big as I remember them - but they are just as tasty. The food came out quickly and was hot and delicious. My server brought a grainy mustard that he said would go "really well" with the potato sausage, and he was spot on. I couldn't finish half of any of the generous portions but if my wife had been with me, it would have been more than enough for the two of us. They do charge $2 to split an order but that's better than wasting perfectly good food. When my server asked if I'd like a box and I explained that I was flying home, he asked where that was. When I responded, "Seattle," talk turned to the upcoming Big Game. He said, "I hope the 'Hawks win; we don't like New England around here." We shall see; hope springs eternal. One thing that one doesn't have to hope for, as it's practically guaranteed, is good Swedish food at Ann Sather. If you aren't familiar, I encourage you to check it out. If you just haven't yet tried it, I ask: "What's stopping you?" If nothing else, go for the cinnamon rolls.

Came here on a recommendation! It did not disappoint. The cinnamon rolls are amazing. Highly recommend!

I was brought a cinnamon roll from here and man it was good. I'm honestly glad I took a bite of it before putting it in the microwave because it was fire like that, which is how you know it's def better in person. Also not a bad biscuit for not being in the south lol.

Honestly have nothing bad to say about this restaurant whatsoever. If you're looking for the softest and most fresh cinnamon rolls, this is the place to be. My boyfriend and I walked in at around 10:15 am on a saturday and the place was already pretty packed. Thankfully, we got seated right away, but there was a constant influx of people coming in while we were dining. Most of the entrees come with TWO sides. The best part of two sides is that one of them can be an order of two fresh cinnamon rolls, which is exactly what we did. We ordered the monte cristo to split, which incurred $2 extra for a split plate, with hashbrowns and cinnamon rolls to split. They delivered the rolls before the entree, and after enjoying my roll, I was already quite stuffed. I would 100% frequent this place again. The workers were quick, kind, and happy to serve. Lots of people at all times, but after eating here, it's easy to understand why.

This place is pretty decent overall, and definitely a good general brunch spot (assuming you can get a seat at a decent hour) for you and your friends who are tryna find a diner atmosphere to carb load to the max. In terms of overall value, I think this place gives a lot of food. You can get 2 sides (probably cinnamon rolls) on top of your order for a really decent prize and I guarantee you, you will not finish it. Food quality wise I don't think this place lives up to its reputation. The food in itself is fine, but I don't really get the hype. Overall come here if there isn't much of a wait but not really a place that I think is worth waiting more than 15 minutes.

Friendly atmosphere and the cinnamon rolls were the real deal. Very pillowy. And they are generous with them. You can get a side of cinnamon rolls which comes with two. Everything else was pretty basic but good. Would come back again just for the cinnamon rolls.

I was so excited to finally try the famous cinnamon rolls from Ann Sather! I found street parking easily and headed inside. The restaurant was pretty empty for a weekday morning, which was nice, but unfortunately, the woman who greeted me was very unfriendly. I told her I wanted six cinnamon rolls and two caramel rolls to go, and for some reason, she seemed irritated by that. When I went to pay, I had a little trouble with the card machine, and instead of helping, she scolded me and told me to "just read it." It was uncomfortable and not a pleasant experience. Despite that, I was still excited to try the rolls--but sadly, they were a huge disappointment. All six cinnamon rolls were extremely dry (even though I ordered extra icing) and had a strange, almost plastic taste. The caramel rolls were stale and hard. Honestly, I've had better cinnamon rolls from a gas station. Overall, I was really disappointed by both the service and the food, and unfortunately, I won't be returning.

We had brunch at Ann Sathers, a swedish restaurant we saw. Here are our thoughts for each dish we ordered: -Monte Cristo: french toast was perfectly sweet and crunchy, and the meat on top for very well -V4 Omelette: it was ok and a little smaller than we expected. We think it's under seasoned and thought there could be more artichokes and flavor. -Crab Cakes Benedict: we wished the crab cakes were more flavorful, as it felt under salted. It didn't feel like the eggs blended with the sauce well. -Cinnamon rolls: well made. Cinnamon flavor did come through and we were delightful surprised. Potatoes hash: well toasted, not bad Biscuits: we thought the inside was a bit dry, but it paired well with cottage cheese and honey. Overall, we thought the savory food could use more salt and flavoring, while the sweet items and baked goods were pretty decent. We will return specifically for the cinnamon rolls.

The Ann Sather restaurants came up prominently every time I searched on "breakfast," and any time I mentioned going to one, I would get replies like, "Ooh, yummy!" I was looking forward to the Swedish pancakes - I make Icelandic pancakes at home sometimes, so I knew what to expect, and I was not disappointed. Thin and flavorful, nothing more is needed on them except that lingonberry sauce. And like any Swedish restaurant, you get your coffee quickly. It was the second thing our waitress mentioned right after giving us a very warm greeting. Not only was that first cup out quickly, but it was refilled just as quickly, my cup never got below half full. There's no way I could eat one of those pastries, they're just too big and sweet for me, but that's also a big thing here. They looked amazing. Besides having them with their meals, folks would leave with them sometimes with several boxes of them. Everything else was equally good, particularly the meats. My party also appreciated that breakfast sides could include tomato slices and fruits. The restaurant is much bigger inside than it appears on the outside, so apart from perhaps the busiest of days, you should almost always be seated quickly.

The biscuit of this Southern Decadence Benedict was merely okay. However, the gravy was outstanding.

It's funny how memory works. I first learned of Ann Sather's cinnamon rolls from a TV show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate. And those cinnamon rolls have lived rent-free in my mind since then. Other than the video narrated by Ted Allen, I did not do any research and consequently, did not realize that I could get a full breakfast here. Perfect. I was hungry. The breakfast menu includes the usual offerings: Eggs Benedict, omelettes, and pancakes. The guests at a neighboring table ordered something involving biscuits and sausage gravy and I knew immediately what I wanted: the aptly named Southern Decadence. It was basically Eggs Benedict, with a twist. Instead of ham, spicy, flavorful sausage patties. Instead of Hollandaise sauce, sausage gravy. And instead of English muffins, biscuits. Only the poached eggs stayed the same. Included in the meal was a choice of two sides - of course, I had to have the cinnamon rolls. Or should I say, along with the cinnamon rolls, I had sausage, sausage gravy, and biscuit? The biscuit itself was meh but the pork sausage and gravy were fantastic. I may even say that the pork sausage was the best I've ever had. As for the cinnamon rolls? It lived up to the hype (things usually don't). The bun was tender and had a perfect balance of cinnamon and glaze. Service was awesome. Everyone pitched in, taking orders, serving drinks and food, and clearing tables quickly. Guests ate quickly to make room for new arrivals - even though we were never rushed. If I lived in Chicago, I would be here most weekends. And still take home a box of cinnamon buns for the rest of the week.

Ordered the Swedish Breakfast Sampler. The Swedish pancake was the only thing that was decent. Puts you in mind off a crepe. Thin slightly sweet. Thin. You only get one. The Swedish meatball really no flavor. The Swedish Potato Sausage was slightly better but Meh. The egg was good but it was an egg lol. They only give you 1. Than the biscuits were OK. Just biscuits. The waiter was cool. It's an old diner vibe. But I didn't come for breakfast I came for the CINNAMON ROLL. It's perfection. It's good as advertised imo. The cinnamon is just right. The dough is soft but not too chewy. The cinnamon is sweet but not pasty. When it comes to traditional cinnamon rolls it's about the best I've ever had.

Yes. If you're considering stopping by here for the world famous cinnamon rolls. Do it. Everything we ordered was great. The service was prompt and attentive and the overall ambiance was comforting. Perfect contrast to the chilly weather outside. Thank you Ann Sather! We'll be back :)

Great spot! The ambiance of this location was excellent, with a lovely fireplace and beautiful paintings across the wall. We had very friendly service, and the coffee came out immediately. I got the Swedish sampler, which came with a Swedish pancake with lingonberry, a cinnamon roll, fruit, a potato sausage, eggs, snd a meatball. It was a lot of good for the price! And my husband got eggs and cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls stood out for sure. They were amazing! The bread was perfectly soft, they were warm, and the sauce was excellent! The Swedish pancakes with lingonberry was amazing as well. Perfectly thin and flavorful! Giving it 4 stars just because the rest of the food was good too but definitely not up there with the pancake and the cinnamon roll. Great experience! Would recommend!

Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. I finished it slow. Didn't wanna rush it. Just sat there taking small sips and enjoying it while it was still hot.

Set in an old warehouse that is now an art gallery event space and restaurant nestled in an older warehouse district in Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Beautiful decor and laid out perfectly. The wide spacing between tables makes for a comfortable dining experience. So many folks come in to do their work and dine here.
