Lynne is an absolutely wonderful person and will answer any question you have. They have a great curation of furniture and an aesthetic that is getting harder to find. We stumbled on this place while walking down a mundane stretch of North Avenue en route to something else, and after seeing the window we had to visit it. None of us needed anything, so we weren't exactly shopping, more like swanning around a gallery. It was a wonderful experience--lovely hosts and an eclectic assortment of delightfully weird and often beautiful objects all comfortably arranged in a big enough space that you can actually see them and appreciate them and aren't falling over stuff. If I lived anywhere near it I'd probably wear out my welcome finding excuses to hang out there. I'm haunted by a particular mid-century wall hanging that I personally don't have the space for, but someone out there must--great colors and shapes. read more

Lynne is probably one of the most likable and genuine people I have met. She is so funky and fresh, she treats you like she has known you all your life. Her love for high end vintage furniture design (and vintage in general) is completely contagious! She is so welcoming and warm-hearted you will want to buy everything! Lynne was fabulous. This was my first time in, but she made me feel like I had been there a million times before. She's gifted at customer service. I found something I wanted immediately, which never happens to me in vintage stores, thanks to their impeccable taste. Lynne helped me get it checked out and set up delivery easily and quickly, while offering me (and the other folks in the store, who hadn't bought anything) a cold beer! How great is that? Oh, and by the way, the dining set I bought was a steal. As Lynne said "this isn't a museum; I want to keep things moving!" And just two hours later, I'm home typing this review on my new table. 5 stars easily. Will be back later this week for one of the three swanky couches I saw today. read more

Read these reviews. Most are right on. This is a top-shelf vintage shop. The collection is amazing, maybe a bit pricy, but worth it. We met the owner on our first visit. She was busy with a vendor (I think) but quickly freed herself to say hi, ask what we were interested in, and chat. She's awesome and has great taste. My wife and I just purchased a cool long refinished vintage sofa from Lynne. We were out of town and she sent dimensions, and photos to help the process. She pointed us in the direction of some great movers to get the sofa to our loft. She even sent pictures of the move in progress... so much fun, and so much detail. An Orange Moon is one of my favorite places in Chicago. It has the best, most awesome MCM pieces. Its location is out of my way so I don't get to visit often but I check items for sale on the store website everyday and it's a treat. I bought a couple pieces from An Orange Moon over the years and I love them. I'll probably have them forever. I went to their estate sales a while ago and it was one of the highlights of that year. I bought a really great (and affordable) credenza and a nice arm chair. That same year I blew my Christmas bonus on a painting I'd been eyeing and this painting is still one of my favorite possessions. 100% worth it. And the furniture is only half the appeal of this store. Lynne is a goddess and an inspiration. She is so stylish and warm. She's a real force of positivity and couldn't be any more engaging. Ty is a great guy, too. If you're into MCM things and you haven't been here yet this is a must-visit. read more

Great pieces, rude shop owners with poor customer service. Of the 7 MCM stores I went to today, this was my only bad experience.

Yes, it's out of the way especially if you are a northsider and have never ventured west of Hyde Park, but it's a tiny store that delivers. I spotted the store's posting on a CL ad for a Knoll style tulip table and thought it was too good to be true. I drove down and snapped it up along with a danish modernist dresser, which I had spotted at a Vill Thrift for $20 less but much too big for my room and not in as good of condition. Lynne let me come back that night with more manpower even though it was her off-hours. I'd drop back in whenever I'm trolling the southside for finds. It's good mostly for refurbished modern chairs, side tables and knick knacks. Join her mailing list and she'll keep you informed of what she's scooping up too! read more

I walked into An Orange Moon today and the owner was chatting with two people at the counter and didn't acknowledge me and my friend, which was OK, though when I sat on a couch that was labeled Sold yet accessible with no indicator not to sit on it she looked over and said "That's sold", I said "I know, I just was seeing how it felt" and she responded with "Nuh, huh, you know better", with attitude, and went back to her conversation with the two people there. I felt judged as not having the buying power she required by perhaps being dressed pretty casually. This was in polar opposite to my experience down the road where the owners of the new North Avenue Collective and Richard's Fabulous Finds were incredibly welcoming and friendly. I don't recommend frequenting An Orange Moon based on my service experience. read more

If you like mid century modern stuff, you should check this place out. Lots of MCM eye candy and reasonable prices when there's a sale. I bought a Broyhill hutch during their Labor Day sale last year for a steal, and more recently I bought a chair, mirror, and this funky pew/bench using the 15% Yelp deal you get when you check in there. If money were not an issue, I would shop here more often! All the stuff is beautiful. And the people there are SO nice. I was impressed by Lynne's hospitality the first time I went there, but this last time they went above and beyond to help me when the pew/bench wouldn't fit in my car. Someone from the store (sorry, I can't remember his name!) drove it over to my apartment in his car and helped me bring it up the two flights to my apartment. What a HUGE help to a single gal. I recommend this place to people all the time. read more

We made a family trip to An Orange Moon yesterday, and thank goodness they were open on Sunday! The owner, Lynne is trying out being open on Sundays and it's wonderful! We happened to go there yesterday to just check out the store and ended up buying two beautiful pieces (a Harmony House Desk and matching nightstand) at very reasonable price. We're definitely going back to check out the stuff she finds, she's got an awesome eye for style!!! Voted #1 Vintage Shop for 2010 in the Chicago Reader, it's well deserved. My daughter and I visited the store and found it to be charming with many different mid-century pieces to choose from. The owners, Lynn and Ty are super nice and helpful. We felt like we had known them for years and learned some interesting stories from Lynn's "new career" as celebrity on the TLC reality show, "What the Sell." I found two awesome mid-century lamps and a fabulous settee (for my daughter's apt.) which have already enhanced the look of our homes.
