It came layered with pork chorizo, potatoes, and corn at the bottom, then topped with two eggs, avocado, and some veggies -- such a hearty meal! I also got the pumpkin pie cappuccino, but I could barely taste any pumpkin pie flavor; it was mostly cinnamon-forward. We went on a late Sunday morning, and the restaurant was pretty packed. It was a bit hard to hear my boyfriend because it was quite noisy inside, with both crowd chatter and kitchen sounds in the background. How in the world does this place have high ratings? The service is terrible. If you don't have enough servers to get a cup of coffee in 30 minutes then maybe don't fill anymore tables. Rude and crowded. What a terrible experience. The food when we go it 85 minutes after we arrived- was marginal at best considering the price. To add insult- they put an automatic 20% gratuity on the check, I can only imagine because the waitress knew we were unhappy. My friend called her out on it - you can't put an auto gratuity on a party of 4 without some prior notification. Such a disappointment if experience. read more

Bright, easy-going place, great location on a corner and loved all the windows, though I'm not sure how cold they would be to sit next to during a Chicago winter. Their hominy breakfast was beautiful, but had a much milder flavor than I expected, considering all the ingredients. The green sauce that came on the side had a mild heat, I ended up adding some Cholula to provide some kick. Service was easy before 10am, but we saw the place fill up quickly and the staff clearly bustling to keep up. Nevertheless, we never had to re-ask for anything and water refills were taken care of automatically and briskly. Savanna Restaurant is a hidden gem! I've gone many times, to both this location and north center. The food is consistently good and service is always friendly. On this visit, I got huevos rancheros. The dish is presented so beautifully and is delicious every time I order it! Other orders on this visit were chilaquiles verdes, breakfast tacos, and a pancake combo that comes with two pancakes, two eggs, and choice of meat. Everyone enjoyed their food. It happened to be my birthday last time I went, and the staff brought a delicious carrot cake and sang happy birthday to me! So fun. I love the decor and the patio is nice when the weather allows. Lots of families frequent the restaurant and everyone's friendly. It does get busy on Sundays but the wait isn't long, even when we've had large parties. read more

I'd had one of their locations bookmarked because I thought their menu, specifically the sweet pancake selection and the Ecuadorian twists, was interesting. So when my friend and I wanted to go out for breakfast, he suggested this and another place and I happily chose this place. I got the llapingacho benedicts and tropical berry smoothie (the benedicts came with a side of house potatoes, salad, or fruit, and I got the potatoes) and my friend got the pancakes and chicken sandwich. He thought the pancakes were good but nothing special (I took a bite and also thought they were good), but he Loved the chicken sandwich and was super happy with it. I thought both the llapingachos benedict and the tropical berry smoothie were yummy, but not amazing/out of this world. Wow wow wow! What a fabulous experience! I was looking for a place to study and this was absolutely perfect. First of they have a beautiful restaurant with giant windows which they opened so it feels like I was outside even though i was sitting inside. Each table has flowers on them and the overall feel of the restaurant is comfortable and friendly. They were also blowing up autumn leaf balloons to put around the restaurant. The waitress Liz, Jessica and Jose Luiz where impeccable. Each came by to check on me. The peach ice tea was beyond belief. I love ice tea and have never tasted anything this great. Since it wasn't too busy during mid morning I asked if I could stay and study and Liz was so kind to let me stay. I will definitely be back soon! I don't know if it's at every location but this location added 3% per item to use the credit card. Usually it's 3% added to the bill. This restaurant did per item and it's really small on the menu and it blends in with the color of the background on the menu where it's almost impossible to see it where it says that. Just randomly searched up a breakfast restaurant while I was in the area(used Yelp of course!) and came across this gem!. I went on a Sunday around noon and got seated immediately. I chose to sit on their sidewalk patio. Very nice ambiance and super cozy! Ordered the signature omelette which was called "the savanna". This thing was amazing! We'll seasoned and a nice size. What we ordered: Red Velvet pancakes, vanilla milkshake, mango/strawberry smoothie (drinks not pictured) and Llapingachos Benedict. For me the star of the show was the Llapingachos Benny, made with Ecuadorian potatoes cakes, grill tomatoes, pork chorizo, poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise with house potatoes served on the side. I switched the pork chorizo for turkey, which was very flavorful and not lacking--I switched the potatoes for fresh fruit. The only thing that would have made this even more irresistible was if it were served more hot to temperature. Now I will say what turned it up a notch was adding some Cholula hot sauce, excellent flavor component. The service was good and the restaurant gives family vibes. read more

Saw an article posted online recently and after some work in the area decided to finally give them a go. This area of Lincoln doesn't see much foot traffic and I often forget that there are restaurants in this stretch. Awesome though to see an area neighborhood restaurant getting some press. A weekday brunch was in order. Service was excellent. Attentive and on the ball with every request. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. That morning it was a chilly 32 F. So glad the heat was up which matched the lively mood of their Latin tunes. I should add that in this neighborhood, it doesn't see as many walk-ins as other more densely populated areas. We must have come right as a steady flow of early lunch diners' were checking in. Our orders came out of the kitchen in a timely manner. First, we shared a plate of fruit filled crepes. See the photos. Not too sweet, the fruit just sweet & tart enough. Not a bit was left behind. Then to two types of eggs Benedict and a veggie hash. My favorite of it all was the llapingachos Benedict. We three shared plates. My Bene with ground chorizo on a fried tomato slice atop a seasoned potato cutlet. The poached egg was perfect! When my fork cut in, the yolk splashed the plate in yolk. The cutlet absorbing rich yolk. A dusting of salt and pepper only rounds those next bites. Toasted bread or a slice of English muffin would be overkill, but with that "moat" of yolk, I would have loved it. All in all, everything wonderful & tasty that brunch should be. -Speaking of the receipt and charges. One item listed on my receipt that gave confusion was a 3% Covid surcharge. I could already tell, items had a higher cost. Understandable due to inflation. But why the 3% surcharge, there isn't any mention anywhere why it's on there. And then, the receipt suggests different tip amounts by percentage with it's associated value. That is fine and helpful except that their tip suggestions are based off the total amount with taxes and surcharges. That's no bueno. And then, they also do not pack leftovers for you.. I am bored of this trend. read more

Went for brunch this past Sunday and was delighted with our visit! I ordered the El Mexicano skillet and it was delicious. Others ordered "make your own omelet" , choriburrito and chef wrap. Newer location, comfortable inside with large windows that open up to let in the breeze. The food was delicious, with some very unique offerings like eggs Benedict on Ecuadorian corn (?) cakes, and other Latin inspired brunch dishes. The banana bread french toast with caramelized bananas was great, pancakes were fluffy. The place is kid friendly. I docked one star however, because service was lacking, and food took forever to arrive. Maybe the staff are still getting used to things, but our waitress never came to check on us after our meals arrived. My side of fruit never came and then I totally forgot about it until after I had left the restaurant. Our coffees and waters were never refilled automatically - we had to ask each time.
