I first hired Travis Tree Service when I moved here in 1999 and no one else would touch the enormous dead Douglas fir tree overhanging a small stream behind my new house. Bob and his crew were thoroughly professional and knowledgeable. Since then, they have cared for our trees (new house, many oak trees!) with skill, hard work, and a keen eye for the health and balance of the trees. Wow! Wow! I called Travis Tree today looking for a company that could check the trees around our family cabin to make sure none were at risk of falling on our structures. It would be horrible to survive the fires only to be taken out by falling trees. Bobby Travis did a free same day check for us and let me know that our cabin is in no imminent danger of falling trees. There is nothing like speedy help when you really need it! I don't give many reviews but I am so impressed by this company I had to come and give them 5 stars. I was dealing with a safety problem along with damages from different company that had come out and was in need of someone who really understands fire safety and insurance regulations. After having had such a problem with communication with the company I had out here who taken down trees that were not supposed to be taken down along with damages to my property I was furious! A friend of mine suggested that I contact Travis Tree and the owner came out the very next morning and made it a whole different experience. I was shocked to hear chainsaws at 7am on a day when Travis Tree was NOT SCHEDULED to be at my house. I had a very sick family member trying to sleep and heal. We went ahead and let them work. An hour later, I walked out the door and was dismayed to see an entire area that provided privacy screening from the road was now stripped bare. I never told them to prune this area. Other areas that I had requested get pruned were ignored until I insisted upon them late in the day. Perhaps the most disappointing was that Bob explained to me in great detail how my two-story high Camellia bush needed to be carefully trimmed in order not to damage it, but when they came, he had one of his crew hack it with a chainsaw. It looks butchered. There are still dead branches wedged in amongst the frayed ends of the branches. I am worried that it will not recover. My window looks out on this mess. Bob is a really friendly guy. He did a good job pruning some redwoods without dropping limbs. If I asked him to fix things, he would get one of his guys to do it. I was just bummed that I had to watch over the situation. Since they split their time between my house and another one nearby, they ran overtime and were anxious to get home. I had to do a fair amount of cleanup after they left. I am surprised to see photos of stacked wood from other clients. They left mine scattered all over the yard. They moved a heavy pot and never put it back. I will not be using their services in the future. read more

As a result of the CZU fire, my property had damaged trees and vegetation. Based on the reputation of the tree service companies in the San Lorenzo Valley, I contacted and left a voice mail for Travis Tree Professionals. They were very quick to respond to my message with a phone call and followed up with an on-site inspection within 24 hours. The assessment found one large oak tree significantly cracked at the base with the potential to come down at any given moment. Travis Tree Professionals took immediate action to secure the tree until the following day when they promptly showed up at my house and took the tree down. Much additional work was needed on burnt trees and brush. The crew was stellar, they arrived in the morning and worked carefully and tirelessly under the direction of the company's principal. Care and consideration were taken with regards to potential issues due to heavy rainfall. Trees were felled in a manner to help with flow mitigation and determent. Additionally, brush deemed to be fire fuel was removed and seed was put down to further stabilize the environment. Not being a native mountain resident, the fire and resulting issues were foreign to me and very frightening. The genuine care, compassion, and understanding shown me was significant in getting me through this stressful time. My home that I so dearly cherish is once again my safe haven, for this I am eternally grateful to the team at Travis Tree Professionals. Bob and his team are very professional and friendly. We were contacted by our fumigation company that the trees next to our deck need to be trimmed or cut before fumigation start in 3 days. I contacted Bob to see if he could help us in such hurry and he managed to do that. They showed up on time and help us cut trees and turn them to split rail. What's amazing is that they piled up the wood nicely and cleaned up the leaves and twigs after the job done. High recommend! read more

Last week I had Travis Tree Professional cut down a VERY LARGE Douglas Fir tree. Not only was it close to the house and right next to my very short driveway, many branches soared above the power pole at the end of the driveway. The wires from the pole not only connected to my house, but to other houses as well since it has a gray box on it and if wires were hit,I think a number of homes would be affected! Thanks to their skillful work, there were no issues. This was a two day job but I was not able to be at home to see them work on day two. I would have loved to see how they completed the job because the tree was old and the trunk very large! But I arrived to find the job completed and everything cleaned up. The roof was clean, no cracks in my driveway, and you would never know the huge tree had been there the day before and had been removed. The men were on time, were very careful of my plants which were at the base of the tree and not trampled. Five star all the way! If you are looking for professional, safe, skilled tree service, look no further. Bob and his crew worked in my property to trim a few trees and cut down a few others. Bottom line is they did what they said they would do, on time, on budget, clean, safe, and the whole time with top notch customer service to boot. The trees cut just like we discussed. All the debris cleaned up. All my yard decorations put back. Came to my house on time, worked non stop both days they planned to be there. Other reviews here on Yelp said Travis Tree was more expensive. In my experience, this is not accurate and I got bids from 2 other companies, local and prominent ones, the ones you probably are getting competing bids from too. Travis Tree charges fair price for the amount of work that needed to be done and for the quality they deliver and the time they take to do the work. Other companies might charge cheaper day rate, but they take more days as they might not bring as many workers nor work as efficiently as Travis Tree. So in the end, Travis was definitely the best. Also, other reviews here said Bob did not return phone calls on time. Well the man works up in the tree where it is hard to get to the phone every minute, rightt? LOL In my experience, my calls were returned promptly. Bob (owner) was able to view my property with no delay. Got teh bid promptly afterwards , scheduled the work same day as the bid. Bob then called days before work is to start to confirm and he even called the day AFTER all the work is done to thank me for my business and checked that all was well. Bob, from Travis Tree, came to my home and gave me an estimate for the work they needed to do on our property. He quoted $185/hour for eight hours and they would need two days. His crew of six came up the very next day with a crane and wood chipper. They are a super group of guys. Very hard working and polite. Bob came up to me and wanted to know if I wanted the debris on our side of hill cleaned out, as well as the trees cut down. No extra dollars, just more time. It needed to be done so I said OK. After two days of cleaning the debris, we told Bob that we just wanted the original trees discussed removed. He came on the third day with just the chipper and asked if we wanted to clean up some more of the debris on our hillside. I asked him how far we were into him and he said $4800 and and extra $2500 for the current day. I asked him how we got to $4800 when he told me $1480/day for each of 2 days. He said, oh that was just for the crane truck. It didn't include the crew. I told him in that case, we should stop after the current day. $4800 plus the $2500. So around $7300. Imagine my surprise when I was presented with a bill this morning for $10,466. We were charged $3980 for each of the first two days. $2500 for the crew and $1480 for the crane. I didn't get his quote in writing. Shame of me. Bob is a sweet talker who isn't honest when asked for numbers. Don't make my mistake - get your job in a professional quote and hold them to it. Travis Tree did a great job, it's too bad I have a bad taste in my mouth about using them again. Lesson leaned. read more

I first contacted Bob at Travis Tree in the middle of May to have some tree work done. After arranging to have the work start the next week, I realized that there were two birds nests around the area that would be effected by the tree work. I called Bob and he understood completely. He agreed that we should wait until the birds had hatched and were on their way. So we waited until the middle of June . His team of employees were so easy to work with. Always on time, very respectful of the space, the plants, and the overall area in which they had to work. Each evening the area was clean so that I didn't have to worry about anyone tripping on limbs. The men were very respectful of each other and worked like a well oiled machine. There was some challenging tree issues and they dealt with them professionally. There were party lights that needed to be taken down while the work was being done. All of the lights were put back up when they were finished. The wood was split to perfection so that it would fit into our wood burning stoves. I would hire Travis Tree in a heart beat again. Bob was able to walk the property and tell me what trees would need work in a few years. He could spot trouble from the ground. They were just the BEST. read more

I have known OF Bob and his Travis Tree professionals company for some time. He and his crew have done fairly minor work on my trees before. THIS TIME however the job was a big one.... EVERY time in the past they have come out, the trimming dropping take down and disposal is always done EXACTLY as i ask. In fact in most cases he expresses ideas to check in with me then arranges things to help clean up my yard environment even more than i would have expected from a tree company. Admittedly this time i made additions and changes to the original plans adding challenges to the job MID process that Bob and his crew did not even blink an eye to. Just BINGO, made what i wanted a reality. Work like this requires organization of a crew of MANY and equipment FAR larger than you would think. My yard is not huge AND there was a disabled BMW RIGHT IN THE MDDLE of the action..... Did not matter to Bob and his crew, he and his crew dropped many branches and ACTUAL trees down and did not TOUCH my customers disabled BMW at all...... despite using a big rig person lift truck taking up MOST of the remaining space. I even had a customer come WHILE this was all happening and they and ME felt safe to get things done again despite an unbelievable level of activity of Bob's crew. Yeah, first to review. :) About 1 1/2 years ago I had a tree fall in my yard at 5am- woke the crap out of me. A neighbor contacted Travis Tree to come out. They were here within 3 hours. Bob, the owner, was on it quick and all his crew were done removing it in about 2 hours. It actually fell on the fence, part of someone home and trashed a carport that a car was under. They had to carefully remove all the carport so the car can be moved. Got to talk with Bob during this time and he really is a great person, knows what he is doing and been in the business for over 30 years. I recommend this service to get the job done and in a precisely matter. His company works with anything to do with trees- removal, milling, planting, landscaping, etc.. and will travel all around the bay area, not just locally. read more

GREAT service! Large limb fell a couple of weeks ago, and it was blocking my street from vehicular traffic. I'm on the phone frantically trying to find someone to come & deal with this. Travis Tree was recommended by a friend a while back. They were the only tree service I called who said they could come out TODAY and handle my huge limb. While their crew was on the phone telling me they'd be here in 15 minutes, Felton Fire showed up and the fireman whipped out his chainsaw to clear the road. Travis came and finished the job. Owner, Bob, came out to check on his crew- really nice guy & easy to work with. By then hubby was home, and he & Bob decided the rest of the tree needed to come down, and we had another maple that needed to go. Travis came back within a week and finished the work. The crews did a fantastic job; all neat & clean, and they were all easy to work with and took excellent care of me. The price was quite reasonable. I had a 100' tree that had become rotten in parts and threatened my house as well as the neighbors. Bob and his crew came right over, in the middle of one of the worst storms ever for California, and assessed the situation. They immediately rigged the tree with ropes to keep it safe until the storm passed. Within 2 days they had cut out the rotten parts, trimmed the tree 50% or more and saved it from having to be cut down completely. They were extremely professional in their work and upfront in their business dealings. Though this was not a cheap endeavor their price was well worth the work they did. They even trimmed some other trees on my property at no extra cost. I think Bob likes the feel of a chain saw in his hands. He should because he and his crew are artists. Not a nice or decent person at all- just trying to rip everyone off, that is what I heard from the townspeople. What a total loser. Just look at him- old and burned out.
