I hired Christianson Tree experts after getting several bids and meeting with them. I had a redwood tree about 100 feet tall that had three spires to it and was starting to uproot my foundation. Ned, who ran the crew, scoped everything out, checked with my neighbors, and had to take a couple sections of fence out as it was in between 2 properties. He communicated with both of us and let us know what was gonna happen. They de-limbed the tree, took the tree out and ground the stump out. They were the only company to bid taking out the tree, utilizing the wood, selling it to big Creek and in return taking that portion of money off my bill. All of the other companies were going to grind the tree, which seemed like a waste to me. They cleaned up the yard on both my neighbors side and my side, even doing a little bit of landscape on the neighbor side to make it look nice putting everything back to better than it was. We have huge sycamores in our back yard with no vehicle access and a winding garden. They trimmed our trees, using Arbor Lift Crane service. Between the 2, beyond expertise, crane driver and tree trimmers, we couldn't be more pleased. Not only were our trees trimmed beautifully, but not the slightest disruption of our garden when they finished. Some of the limbs were the size of trees , themselves . This crew did a great job with the trees on my property! I have a large fir, incense cedar, and eucalyptus tree in my yard. My mom is a collector of plants. Below the fir and cedar is my mom's prized & priceless collection of Japanese maples. The Christianson crew was able to limb, prune, and shape the trees without dropping anything larger than a twig down on the maples. The eucalyptus was trimmed and shaped beautifully, again with limbs being removed without hitting the delicate plants below. I can't believe how lucky I was to have John come down the day after Thanksgiving to help me get my car out from under a tree that fell overnight! If I could, I would leave zero stars. Incredibly disappointing. We initially had some good experiences with them however, they have not followed through/followed up on returning phone calls, text messages etc. We paid several thousand dollars for stump removal. They did not remove all of the stump, (granted, it was a gigantic tree)so we tried, over the span of several months, to contact them and ask them kindly to come back to finish the job. After blowing us off for several months, my brother left a "negative review that hurt their business" and that is what got us a response, finally! It took 3-6 months to get them to come back to finish the job. And still, after coming back a second time, this is what our yard looks like. We have been waiting on them to reply so we can schedule a time for them to come back to finish the job. We cant move forward with our plans for our yard until the stump is completely 100% gone. I called and left a message on Thursday but still, I have not heard back. Another family member sent a text several days ago & again......nothing, no answer/response Now, I'm forced to leave a "negative" review. They could AT LEAST improve their customer service skills & reply to people's inquiries. read more

In the past on two occasions, more than 10 years ago had good experience with Christianson. Called again. FINALLY got someone out with an estimate. Was perfectly happy with him. They were supposed to then call back to schedule. After a week I called, said they did not know. After three weeks more, not a peep from them. A courtesy call would be nice--we have schedule too. They probably don't need your business, they obviously have enough already. At least Richard's tree service informs their customers they would take 6 weeks. read more

My good friend highly recommended this company. He had pictures of them removing his huge tree. Professional, and great work. I had an appointment to remove a huge tree also but it's such a focal point in my front yard that I canceled on short notice. Having a massive Live Oak start tipping toward our house in the midst of Santa Cruz Mountains' most recent storms, it was impossible to find help, as all emergency crews and tree people were already attending to emergencies. Christianson's people came out immediately, on a motorcycle -- to get through the closed road. They were incredibly helpful and obviously caring about our situation and their work. The tree came down, and their work enabling us to get into our compromised house, as well as the job of cutting up the massive beauty and taking it away, was excellent. Then after their receptionist/scheduler set up a designated appointment with me, they never showed up or even called to tell me they wouldn't be able to make it. The crew arrived on time, completed the work in about six hours, as they said they would, and cleaned up after themselves. They even left me some firewood as I had requested! I ordered cordwood from these guys. It was hard to communicate with them and they didn't show up when they said they would. This happened three times and when they did arrive, the load they left was significantly short. When I sent a photo of the stack they said sorry, they'd make good on it. Years ago, Christianson Tree Experts Company did a remarkable job on the large valley oak in the central garden of the apartmement building that I formerly lived next door to. It is among the largest of valley oaks that remain in the Santa Clara Valley. The building was constructed around it. I had four large Doug Firs at my home in Ben Lomond taken out by Christianson, one of which was only a few feet from the front of our house and situated between the house, our driveway, and a propane tank. On top of that, we have a wall of glass windows only a few feet from the Fir that was taken down, so one error could've easily resulted in a cascade of shattered glass. We had previously had Christianson take out a large Fir above our house about 9 years ago, so had confidence in Christianson. Still, four large fir trees on a hillside (the largest of which within close proximity to the house) was a daunting and difficult job. Christianson completed the job within 5 days exactly on schedule without a single problem or issue. They worked long and hard, and left our house blown and clean. We had a number of other bids, but Christianson was both fair and reliable. With big projects like this, I wouldn't go with another company. Plus, the crew is not only skilled, but also calm, courteous, professional, experienced and local. This is a tree crew to be trusted, which is not the case with every tree crew (we hired some guys a few years ago who delivered fire wood to take out some small redwoods in front of the house...it was a disaster). Called these guys based on recommendations here to have the ornamental trees trimmed in my front yard (something I'm told these folks are very good at). Received a call-back to my message a full seven days later and the woman managing the office advised she would have her guy drop by for a look - no need to be there. Called them back two weeks later and got this: "Yeah my guy just hasn't had an opportunity to drop by" (keep in mind I live one street off the one of the busiest thoroughfares in the Santa Cruz area) and then "I'll ask him again, but I would probably advise you to call someone else as a backup as we just have so much work on the books". Okay. Fair enough. Drowning in work is a great problem to have. But handling it by not even attempting to follow up in any way - or just advising you're 4-6 weeks out up front? That's really crappy customer service (and predictably crappy contractor practice) right there. Reputation dinged. And deservedly so. read more
