I live in Travis AFB, California, and I've enjoyed being part of this community. The area is convenient, well maintained, and close to many local amenities. One friendly tip: if you're a fan of being a speed racer, you might want to save that for somewhere else! I love having this option to shop at because of pricing. Some things are expensive, but some things are a bargain. There are always some kind of sales going on too. And you can't beat no taxes. They have a wide array of products to choose from, including clothes, shoes, furniture, electronics, toys, perfume, makeup, jewelry, outdoor items, household cleaning stuff, pet care items, the list goes on. It would be nice if it opened earlier, and stayed open later. The staff is usually nice, although sometimes you get one that is having a bad day, but I don't hold that against them. AWARENESS: NARRATIVE: The wife and I needed to make a trip to the Navy Federal Credit Union and since the closest one in the area is located in Vacaville, we decided to do some shopping afterwards. SCENE: Both, the Exchange and Commissary are located on the Air Force Base at Travis. The exchange is what you find on any other base but, unlike PX located at McClellan's old base, this Exchange actually has a food court that's open and running. Good thing too, because I was hungry and Charlie Steakery killed that noise. EVIDENCE: The lay out is well organized and it's easy to find the men's from the women's section. Except for the shoes. For some reason, this exchange has both men's and women's shoes located in the same area. Other nice amenities are the huge isle and lots of check-out stands. RECOMMENDATION(S): This Exchange like many others are always fun to wander through. You'll never know what you'll find. Always recommended if your in and around the Travis Air Base. read more

As AAFES BX's/PX's go, this one is pretty great. It's definitely on the large side, with all the departments that you get with the larger BX's. For example: an entire Outdoors section, a very large PowerZone (electronics) section, appliances section (washer/dryer, frig/freezers, etc.) It's got all the usual sections as well: clothes, perfumes, makeup, kitchen, auto, hardware, snacks, household goods, personal hygiene, etc. etc. etc. etc. This place could compete with a small Walmart, in my opinion. Location is pretty good. It's on your right just as you enter through the Travis AFB Main Gate. There's a Food Court attached as well as the usual assortment of mini-mall shops and kiosks. During a recent visit the only registers open were self check out. No problem, I will do the work an employee should be doing. Problem #1 Halfway through my basket of items a sale item didn't ring up with the sales price so I have to wait for an assistant who tells me it won't work on self check out so she will have to take me to a a register. I say forget it and continue checking out. Problem #2 I try to use a coupon that was provided on the shelf for an item and it won't work, repeat the scenario with the assistant. If you only want to have self checkout make sure it works! This level of service is crap and a waste of everyone's time. read more

You can bring in your ad from any other store, and they will price match (Just check the model numbers, that's where all these stores get you). Your typical BX inside the base that offers tax free shopping for military members and their family. You need to have a valid military/dependent id to shop here so beware of that. This place has it all, from your toiletries to household goods to jewelries. They also carry name brands merchandise like coach, dooney and bourke and michael kors to name a few. Although at times their prices are much higher than the stores outside base, they do price match it but make sure it's the same exact ones. They also have a food court that everyone can dine in and enjoy. They have small vendor kiosk that sells handmade things that you can purchase. Registers are always packed especially during lunch hour and weekends but rest assured that you always never have to wait long to check out. Military in uniform has priority though during certain time of days (but some people are nice enough to let them get ahead in line anyway). I hear people complain about this place and lack thereof of some products that they don't have here. You can't really complain about this place since it's there to cater for our military/dependents and they can take advantage of its savings they offer, you have a choice wheter to shop here or not. read more

Awful exchange store it seems this place changes management far too often considering we travel a lot. This exchange needs a renovation and a visit from headquarters. The Cashier podiums are dates the registers should be facing the customer and shouldn't have the workers back faced to the computer screen. Also, the credit card machines are held up by register tape rolls to stop them from falling backward and also it's very hot in the store. Also at the gas station, I told the clerk she said it's been broken at the main exchange. Also, The food court used to have more options and has downsized in selection with bigger options in the food court it was never designed to be that way. The coke cola machines are old and broken at times do to them aging and we did speak to Mr. Green about this he said we would love to get new machines it's aafes who won't get them he said the machines are about 15-20 year's old and often sometimes you can't get ice or they are off because they malfunction. also, it closes and only leaves burger king open And dominions pizza nothing is open 24 hours, not even the gas station/convenience store Also, why don't you guys invest in self-checkouts I have never seen more than 3 registers open out of the 11 Also, why not put a self-paying station for fuel across the street so that customers can pay cash for fuel or diesel as diesel is only at the old gas station and not the newer one Why not have diesel pumps at both locations the other gas station is across the street! But at rock bottom prices + 20% off + NO TAX: Made me think twice on my Christmas list who needed a purse! Women's clothes 50% off, kid's toys cheaper then you'd find at Walmart (although not necessarily better in inventory), my Pops picked up a suit for 75% off (it was really nice), they have a GREAT selection of department store cosmetics: Juicy, Lancome, Benefit, Shisedo, Nars, Clinique, Too Faced, Estee Lauder, Philosophy, Origin, Victoria Secret lotions, various brand name perfumes and colognes... Glad to hear of the improvements. I went there once around 20 years ago. Spent a few minutes in the place, bought nothing and headed for a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop that used to be next door. The old Travis BX was a total zoo with low quality stuff thrown all over the place and jammed into shelves behind the cashier's counter. Some of it was obviously damaged by careless handling. The only people I knew back in the day who found great stuff there were married friends who've since passed away. The couple regularly found everything from fashionable clothing to beautiful diamond and emerald jewelry. LoL. They had eagle eyes the rest of us lacked. read more

The thing about shopping at a military base in general you do not pay taxes HOWEVER some prices are slightly higher on certain items that it seems like it evens out in the end. Its been about 2 years since i've stepped into this base exchange and they have come up with a good variety of "makeup" stations! They have NARS and Too Faced amongst other brands of makeup! Personally the electronics and furniture is a good deal as in being purchased because of the NO TAX only delivery charges application. They sell out lots of electronics especially Apple products (iPad) due to the price. They have a huge food court outside the exchange mall and offer various booths of different items such as wigs, indian gifts, a barbershop, etc. The downfall they lack of Jade Jewelry. I was looking for a specific jade jewelry and they didnt offer that type that I wanted. They also expanded their brands of Sunglasses! From High End to regular $9.99 ones. This is one of the nicest looking exchanges I have been to besides Hickam AFB and Has become one of my faves! Also they have nice "eye candy" military men here! =P USAF men rocks! read more

Who doesn't love shopping without tax? There are times when prices are better off base, but the bx is convenient when you're on base. It's a nice one stop shop; electronics (including Apple products!), toiletries, cleaning supplies, jewelry, clothing, toys, etc. They even have purses from brands like Michael Kors and Coach. They keep the shelves stocked but there are sections that can look like a tornado came through. There are time when the employees can be hit or miss. You can only shop here if you have a valid ID, so if you want to check it out, you need to get someone to sponsor you to come on base. You're more than welcome to eat in the food court outside though. read more

I go there for the guns! Prices are much better than Fishing, Guns and Other Stuff. The staff is knowledgeable and much more friendly. Of course now they are sold out with the pandemic and everyone buying up all the guns. I was lucky recently and bought a Mossberg. 930 Tactical and a Glock model 31. Sweet! read more

The Base Exchange is pretty much a Walmart Store mixed with Macy's. It has department store makeup, perfumes, purses, clothing, electronics and food. I noticed that their perfume selection is bigger than normal retailers. You'll find specific perfumes that are not available in other stores, they are most likely discontinued or exclusive lines. It's not priced cheaper than a regular retailer, the only difference is that there's no tax. I'm not in need of a computer right now but if I were I would definitely be buying from here. I'm a certified Navy Brat. My dad was in the Navy Reserves ever since I can remember. In fact, he was out to sea for 6 months while my mom was preggers with me and came home in time for my great arrival! What's good are the various military perks. The discounts at Disneyland, going to college for free, and all access on military bases. And yes, this means exchange shopping, which in turn means name brand goods at a discount WITH NO TAX! I went in here today to look at my MacBook Pro. Getting it here would have been awesome since I would save 200 bucks or so on tax. However, they were completely out of stock of the one I wanted, didn't know when they were getting another shipment, and on top of that, they couldn't order one on site. Really...do they not have a computer with internet access? Que impossible! Despite this major setback, I found other good things. They expanded their makeup and fragrance section. Now they include Philosophy, Carol's Daughter, Smashbox, and NARS along with the Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Shiseido lines they carried before. Found a new hairdryer I needed for 20 bucks. And a good mix of clothing in their junior's department that included Hurley, Billabong, and Roxy brands. Yay! Overall, you can really find anything that you need here at a discount and with no tax. So if you know anyone who has access to the base, ask them to hook it up! Just don't look at me just yet (I'm considering joining Air Force Reserves once I'm done with nursing school). I use to love the base exchange back in the late 90's early 00 but ever since they remodeled and brought in new managers it sucks! The layout doesn't make sense and everything is hard to find. The staff doesn't communicate so if there's a sale, half of them have no idea whats going on... for example: ipad 2 came out and the night before the Power Zone manger said to come in and it will be on sell at 9am the next morning. Well, me and about 20 people came in saying the same thing. The sales associate said the manger went on vacation and that we had to wait until 5p. So we asked for the store manager... Well lets say he pretty much said F U to all and come back at 5p. He wouldnt even listen or give us a ticket to be the first in line. So I decided to call corporate to complain and the store manager called me back and said to come back at 5p and he will make sure I get 1. So I did and I thought he would be professional and polite but instead he was biggest ass and told all of his employees that I was the one that complained! Every sales associate gave me attitude and he didn't care cuz he went along with it. NOW every time he sees me gives me a asshole look. So now I stop shopping there because I rather pay more elsewhere than having a big fat black man that can hardly walk pissed off at me for getting an ipad 2. read more

Yessir, lower prices, no tax, and now you packin some sweet brands (so not the exchange I remember). Nars, Shiseido, Lancome, Clinique, Smashbox, and Too Faced cosmetics (my kind of war paint). Coach and Dooney hand bags, and OOHRAH - Apple is in the brigade (fall in Macbooks). This Navy Brat (Bravo Zulu Daddy aka my num 1 Chief) is feeling the artillery. Had you had that kind of contraband earlier, I may have considered enlisting or even marrying back in (granted you reworked the military projects err housing that is). Sound Off Affirmative, raiding the handbag outlets during their sales instead would be less explosive to your wallet (what's that about..should be court-martialed for that ), but there is no beating the deals on the cosmetics and electronics here. In fact, five stars would have been awarded if the handbags could go toe to toe with the outlets (deploy). That and while they did kick up the warfare, they still could use more ammo. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, that means you need to raise the code of conduct and bring in more selection with some semper fi deals. I absolutely love the BX! This is one of my favorite places to go to in the Bay Area. I especially love the Gun Counter inside the BX. This is my "go-to" place for firearms especially during the pandemic. They are limited in their inventory like every other gun shop in the Bay Area, but they seem to have a little more inventory than any off base local gun shops or big box stores I've been to. They still have limited quantity of ammunition in their inventory, but they still have the calibers that are hard to find anywhere else and they have a decent amount of firearms still available for purchase as well. But the best thing about this place is...INTEGRITY. While other local gun shops are price gouging to the point where it's extremely ridiculous, the Gun Counter at the BX stays true to the value of the merchandise they are selling. For example, I went to Solar Tactical in Livermore a few months back and they were selling a Glock 17 for a little over a grand. At the Gun Counter, they are currently selling the Glock 17 and most of their other Glocks for about $500. Also, customer service at the Gun Counter is quick and excellent. The Gun Counter and its staff are truly the best of the best in the Bay Area. I'm not surprised though because one of the Air Force Core values is "Integrity First" and the Gun Counter seems to follow suit. I highly recommend this BX and especially the Gun Counter to all who have the privilege of accessing this place within Travis Air Force Base. read more

The Base Exchange, aka the BX! This place looks like a ginormous Target/ Walmart. It's great in the sense for all military that they can shop here and pay no tax. They also sell such a huge span of items, such as snacks, home decor, toys, video games, hunting stuff, sports, clothes, makeup and so forth. They also have a decent selection if you are not obsessed with brands. My eyes almost popped out when I saw coach and Michael kors bags. No tax on those would be ammmaZINNNG! Haha! Overall this place is organized and quite clean. Service though can be improved. Not many people are that helpful so customer service could be improved. Wish I had a military ID! My friend brought me along this weekend to Travis. Since he was there to work, I decided to walk around, and I found this! It's like a Walmart with a big food court in a way. I didn't except to see such a big variety of brands on the products. They had: Clothing (all ages + active wear + lingerie + Air Force souvenirs) Gardening Dept. Cooking/Baking Toys Cars Bed & Bath Electronics Etc. They also had a small selection on Coach bags. The selection wasn't that great, but at least they have it, right? The only downside was that I didn't have a military ID. Well, duh, Olivia. Base Exchange=Military Base=Military ID required. Black Friday? Yes Please. The line for Black Friday was as calm as you can get, and they handed out numbered tickets for every item. There were plenty of laptops to go around. The same could not have been said for the $10 crockpot, toaster oven, or other items at the same price. We went in towards the end of the line, and to my horror I see women cannibalizing an endcap full of Black Friday items. Lady, you do not need 3 crockpots or toaster ovens. I think it needs to for all the new airman who relocate to the base and don't have a car so all they can do to furnish their dorms or homes is get what's available here. The place is stocked well, never really see any empty shelves but it's really messy. I like their electronics department but their clothing section leaves a lot to be desired. The base exchange is smaller compared to other locations we have been. As per the usual, prices are much higher at the exchange, but the fact it is within walking distance of housing makes all the difference. Some departments are really lacking. If you are looking for specific sports equipment, seek a major retail store instead. Service is good. I have not had a bad experience yet. read more

My hubby has long bragged about the PX(BX, tomato, tomatoe) or Base Exchange at Travis Air Force Base being a great shopping experience. And it is! It's a cross between visiting Wal-Mart and Ross, a mix of affordable products in departments varied as kitchenware and athletic wear with some high-end lines included at bargain prices. I was impressed Bare Minerals, Philosophy, and Benefit were available in cosmetics(even though we couldn't find anyone to help my step-daughter make some selections.) The girls found cute tops.
