Their five star review had me excited to book a move with them. They also were lifesavers who took on an art studio move for us last minute, when most companies were turning us down because it was only one room. They did however have a 4 hour minimum, and being that this was a one studio room we knew it wouldn't take that long, but went with them anyways. The movers were precisely on time and finished well before the 4 hour mark. They were efficient and friendly and followed all of our instructions. Everything arrived in tact.
The minus of 2 stars on this review comes with the charge being $150 over what our estimate said it would be. So here's some things to note for people who use them in the future:
-make sure to sign the highlighted line on the paperwork when the move is done. If you don't sign it, they charge $5.50 per pound as insurance. Of course this was never pointed out to my boss or I. And it is in fine print on the estimate, and I did read this but understood it to mean that I should sign to have insurance charged when actually signature is a waiver of it. And they of course don't include this outrageous amount in the estimate, which they should, so you know to waive it. So make sure to sign the insurance waiver line!
-when you pay by credit card there is a 3% processing fee. this is stated in bold print on your estimate. but when the estimate is emailed over as a large file, the pages of the spreadsheet were spilling over to so many pages, we never saw this until after the fact. So they really should send this as a condensed pdf file so you can see it all on one page. And of course we paid by credit card. Also, they send you a credit card authorization form by email, and it's unfortunate they didn't state this fee on that form. Would've sent a check instead, had I known this.
-the estimate states the hourly rate they are charging you and in parentheses and all caps it says (INCLUDES TRAVEL TIME). I misread this to say that the hourly rate is including their traveling to and from the locations. This is incorrect, they are actually trying to state that you are being charged a 4 hour minimum, PLUS whatever the travel time is for the drivers, will also be charged at that rate. For example, we were scheduled for a 10am-2pm move but were actually being billed for 9:30am to 2:30pm, because of the 30 minute drive to our locations. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me. Most companies only be charge from the minute they arrive to the minute they leave.
-The estimate is very inaccurate. It is not showing the actual travel time charges nor the possible insurance. they really should include on estimate of these charges on the estimate. Hence it being called an estimate.
I would really like to give them 1 star for how upset I am and how mistreated we feel. None of this is ever explained to you by phone, and even I who read through everything before passing off to my boss for signature, was dumbfounded at how they finagle extra charges. When I just called to have request a refund, they are going to give me a whole $50 for the travel time that I misunderstood. They really need to have their sales people better explain all of the charges you are signing on to, so there are no surprises in the end. read more
