I was going somewhere else until I saw the line, and I was intrigued. No one queues for mediocre, and people avoid subpar. So, I got in line, waited for my table, and I was delighted. My only regret was that I couldn't eat a second lunch and try the veal which I spied on my neighbors plate and seemed to be a house favorite.

Veal Milanese. Outstanding !

Had dinner this evening. Really very good straight forward Milanese food. We did not have a reservation. Could not get through on the phone. We walked over from the Hotel. The gentleman that ran the front end was great. He asked that we might finish or dinner within 2 hours. And bingo! We were seated. Very nice waiter. Dishes included the traditional veal cutlet ( delish!), two orders of ossobucco with risotto Milanese and a plate of veal scallopine Marsala. All cooked to perfection. And great deserts. Definitely make a visit! Highly recommend.

Inside of costolleta

So this place I stumbled upon by accident. As a result, I didn't have reservations and when I first went in they told me it's one hour wait to discourage me from waiting. I saw several packs of tourists coming in and some were turned away but others were sat down much sooner than the quoted wait time. I, myself waited about 30 minutes. However they do pack different groups of walk-ins in big tables but I'm still glad they try rather than completely turn you away. The food is decent. I tried the minestrone which is basically a light soup with veggies and pasta. It's slightly salty and blend the same time but I guess that's the point. Their costolleta is quite expensive compared to another costolleta restaurant that specializes in it. The meat is fairly delicious and I think they did a good job. It's however huge but what puzzles me is the color (which is white) and the tendon and texture tells me it's pork but supposedly it should have been veal? I do like pork in general so I have no problem even if it's pork costolleta. It's delicious though. The place is small and packed so you'll feel like you are touching the elbows of the people sitting next to you. The service is functional in that they do what you expect but there is no warmly. Maybe it's a family business and they have no problem with having customer or maybe they just don't like tourists. In any case I just don't feel l had good service. They also took the change directly instead of handing back a change. I was going to leave a slightly bigger tip but since they took the 1 euro then that's fine. I did feel slightly rushed but guess they were busy. Overall it's an alright restaurant and probably better than other tourist restaurants.

We were in Milano for a day and someone recommended Trattoria Milanese as the place to go for an authentic dinner experience with the best local fare in the area. This place definitely delivered on its promise. When we arrived, it was packed despite being a bit off the beaten path. The service was very professional and our waiter very knowledgeable. I enjoyed one of the best risotto with ossobuco I ever had while my husband opted for a cotoletta alla milanese, both were delicious and perfectly paired with wines recommended by the waiter. We also loved the artichoke appetizer. The meal was crowned with a very tasty zabaione cream- an Italian delicacy made with egg yolks, sugar and a sweet liquor. I ca't wat to travel back to Milano to visit again!

During my Milan Trip, this restaurant is on my Bucket list. It's been around for a long long tine. They're famous in serving the Elephant Ear (Porkchops). My friends and I just walked in but we were the first one to wait to open for dinner, so they accommodated us but I highly suggest that you make a reservation. The location was so hard to find even if we were using Maps from Iphone but we manage to find it after 20mins or more from walking around. The Elephant ear was superb. Juicy and tasty. I love it. If uou wver come here make sure you include this on your order. Tha restaurant is neat and well maintained. I like the old bricks inside, it looks like the old but well restored.

There is a reason this place has been in business almost 100 years, well ok there are multiple reasons. For one the food is fabulous, secondly the staff is great and you can tell some of the guys have been there their whole lives, thirdly it feels like home when you sit down. Our wine guy in Florida recommended we dine here (well actually he demanded it - right down to telling us exactly what we would order) and so we had to go. It was a short walk from our hotel so we gave it a try. It is on a very cool street, the first 3-4 places are bars where the people just drink and laugh in the street. After you get through that about 50 yards further up it is quiet and we walked right by the first time as it is not obvious that the trattoria is there. We sat down in what I think was a room for English speakers (lol), all the waiters spoke (some) English and were given a bread basket with soft bread and bread sticks. We ordered a bottle of local wine (38€) and like the good students we are, ordered the items we were told to order: osso bucco, risotto, veal Milanese, we added the salad which did not disappoint. The buffalo mozzarella was soft, fresh and even a little tangy. The table olive oil which I added to the tomato was rich but light. The veal chop was PERFECT. I wouldn't say I even like veal, but I would eat that everyday. It was crispy on the outside, soft in the center and even the bone was worth chewing on to get every little bit. Osso bucco was tender and flavorful. Big bonus was the giant glob (about 3-4 tb) of bone marrow that came out. I spread it on a slice of soft bread for a bit of fatty heaven. Risotto was a great texture, cooked well and seasoned well. It had some saffron in it which most people really enjoy (I do not - but that is my personal preference). We did not order dessert as we had too much gelato during the day but they did have about 8 dessert offerings. I even heard the lady at the table next to us ask her waiter for the check and for a reservation at the same time the next day! Yes it's that good!! Total dinner cost was 119€.

Great meal. It's a simple, elegant restaurant. The local wine is great and the service was very good. Been around for over 100 years. The veal Milanese was excellent. Grilled vegetables were very good.

We got lucky that we were accommodated by the owner because we didn't have booking reservation. The place was small and tucked in via turino. The food is delicious from bread to espresso! But the highlight was the Milanese at Ossobuco. The price was reasonable and service was good with friendly staff.

Excellent food. Authentic Milanese. We didn't have a reservation so the host (owner) asked us to wait about 30". They accommodate us, our server speaks English, the whole stuff was very attentive and friendly but above all the food was great & perhaps the best we had while there. Highly recomended

Tiramisù

A great meal overall. Started with 1/2 liter of barbera. Had the vitello tonnato for an antipasto, then the risotto Milanese, and then veal cotoletta. Finished up with Tiramisu, cafe, and a liquore di liquirizia. I was eating single and dinner was impossible without reservations. Lunch I still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Really good food and attentive staff. Will return when I come back to Milan

The best of a night at several bars on the Navigli. Read my profile and my reviews, you'll find…read morethat I am a pretty experienced booze hound. Pinch is a total replica of American hipster craft cocktail bars, in Milan. The bartenders wear suspenders and do tricks with shakers. I'm waiting for an ironic mustache, preferably like the Moretti guy has. The drinks are exceptional. When I was there, they had one made of green tomatoes and mountain pine liqueur that was a taste party in my mouth. The aperitivo snacks are also really excellent, a small tray of various interesting crunchy things. No potato chips -- we're talking samosas in wonton wrappers with sweet chili sauce, Indian curry rice, a ham-arugula roll, and baba ghanoush. My second drink didn't quite match the first, but it was close. Also, the only bar in Milan that gave me *zero* grief about wanting a simple glass of tap water. In fact, they just give you one. Mega bonus points for that. I'm sick of paying for "aqua panna Toscana" that I neither need nor want. Been drinking Milan tap water in my hotel room for four days now. It's fine. Pour it on. Food offerings from the regular menu are a little hit or miss, but on the other hand, I had kind of stuffed myself with aperitivo. Had I been hungry, might've been a different story.

And yet I thought this Milanese neighborhood was only…read morefilled with bars with bad & cheap drinks, loud music and greasy aperitivo food (well, there are plenty of bars like that but thankfully not all of them). Pinch is a new bar right in Ripa di Porta Ticinese, not in the pedestrian part of the Naviglio, which means they don't have outside seating - except for the tables at the windows. It has a retro vibe, as if you entered a 1920s bar, dim lights, soft 1920's music; elegant but not ostentatious atmosphere. The cocktails list has about 15 signature cocktails, all with an explanation of the alcoholic level (medium or high), taste (fresh, spicy, bitter, etc.) and of course the ingredients, classic cocktails with a twist, made extremely well, with good ingredients. They also have a food menu but I didn't check it out since we were there for the aperitivo - which then turned into after-dinner drinks. I had the "South of the Border" with tequila, chartreuse vert, lime juice, sugar syrup and fresh mint, it was fresh and delicious, then I had another one and another one... just to be sure they were made perfectly ;) For the aperitivo, our cocktails were 8 euro each and the waiter (who looked like Robert Pattinson) brough a small tray with some snacks: rice and salad in small glasses, chips, mini-sandwiches and a couple of vol-au-vents - not enough to fill our stomachs completely but also not the average greasy aperitivo food. Nice staff, a full bar with quality bottles and clean bathrooms complete the experience. Too bad it's far from my house, but worth the subway trip back!

To start, my friend and I tried the red mullet with chestnut creme and the spicy duck with pumpkin fritter. Both dishes were delicious but I especially liked the duck. The depth of flavor in both the tender meat and the fritters made for an auspicious start to the meal. We followed up by splitting the Spaghettoni "Benedetto Cavalieri". I can tell why it never leaves the menu. So simple, but perfectly executed. Finally, the pork belly. The star of this dish was the celeriac cream. So refreshing next to the heavy pork belly. The food was great but what really stood out was how nice everyone was! The service in the well-appointed dining room was top notch with wine advice and care to describe each ingredient, but the folks at Belè went even above this. In a careless error, I left my phone at the restaurant and it was too late to retrieve it before an early flight the next afternoon. The restaurant helped me get it shipped back and stayed in contact to make sure I received it. Go for the food, stay for the wonderful people, and check for your phone before you leave!

I loved my taglioni with truffle. My partner enjoyed his goat cheese risotto. For our entrees, we both thought the duck and the steak were phenomenal. I would definitely come back here again in the future if I find myself in Milan again.

Be ready when the waitress comes because this spot can be quite busy and they have a lot of ground to cover. Semi-pro tip: Whatever the question asked, the correct answer is "Si!" (this worked for me!) The salami and cheese appetizer was wonderful, with at least four kinds of sliced, flavorful preserved meat and wonderful cheeses including handmade, fresh mozzarella. In fact, when you add on the huge, free basket of focaccia and other types of bread, the appetizer alone is enough for four people. As for pizza, the dish here is not the thin and crispy style available elsewhere in Milan. Instead, it is a huge pillowy slice with whatever toppings you select. The small slice is massive and cannot easily be consumed unless you are very hungry. Alternatively, you can take as much time as you need since, in common Italian fashion, there is no rush. Savor and enjoy. Finally, for the ultimate in taste and texture, try the gnocchi with four cheeses. It's creamy, cheesy goodness with a slight pungent bite of Gorgonzola mixed in. This definitely blows away every Mac and Cheese on the entire planet. Bam. Done! Winner!!!

We wanted to take our guests to the Navigli district to show them the river, have a great meal and experience the nightlife after the sun went down. I emailed several restaurants along the Navigli a few days before to ask if they would be able to accommodate 28 people. For one reason or another, I couldn't get anyone to take us! But Mattia Bilotta at the Asso Di Fiori - Osteria dei Formaggi emailed me back right away and was happy to have us. He asked that we pick a few antipasti, a few primi Piatti, a few secondi piati and a few desserts so that they could be ready in advance. When we got off the subway, there was a lot of graffiti on the walls of the buildings and I was worried that I was in a bad part of town as we walked up to the restaurant. But once we reached the river from the subway, I felt better about it. And when I entered the restaurant to let them know that we were here, there was a huge stuffed cow in the middle of the dining room! I knew the kids would LOVE that, but I was not prepared for how much the adults would love it. Once we were seated, Mr. Bilotta brought out a small black board with the meals we agreed on in advance written on the menu. He also allowed us to order the specials of the day, which were written on a big black board on one wall of the restaurant. This meal was everyone's favorite of the trip, by far. Every dish that came out was more incredible than the last. Each person ordered what they wanted, but when the food came out, it was so delicious they were compelled to pass their dishes to people sitting around them saying, "you HAVE to try this!!" We sat and laughed and ate for hours. Some people even ordered more entrées after they were done because the food was so good! Visited June 2013
