Small place, friendly service, but time limit on the table, so if the service is a bit slow, you might be mid dessert and you're being asked to leave when the next party has arrived. Not a big deal, they let you know there is a time limit, but maybe they should keep the service flowing so that doesn't happen. The interior decorator here did a great job with the time warp back to the mid 20th century. Cool vibe. Food was ok. Perhaps using old recipes from the time period is not so good for a tourist? I wasn't really impressed with the food, but I don't have a cultural link to Milanese food to begin with, so I don't think I was fully able to appreciate it. If my grandmother made this when i was a kid, perhaps it would have been better, but the meal was lost on me. Intro: After doing a bunch of sightseeing in Milan, we stopped by Riseolatte for dinner. While we didn't have a reservation, we were seated promptly upstairs (table for three). Ambiance (3.5/5): This Italian restaurant looks like your grandma's house. Lots of old school decor and it's the exact look they're going for. Homey, just like grandma's house. Seating is a bit tight and there's no A/C so things were a bit stuffy. Service (4.5/5): Our waitress was friendly and was pretty efficient in taking care of us. Service can be a bit of a miss in Europe but our experience at Riseolatte far exceeded the norm. Drinks (4.5/5): Good drink list. I ended up splitting some house wine with my buddy. They have it in different sizes and we went with the largest option of the house red. Food (3/5): I went with the osso bucco which is served with risotto (two of my favorite dishes in one). And part of what also made the dish so attractive is that risotto Milanese is a classic Milanese dish. Unfortunately, the dish didn't live up to the hype. Osso Bucco, done right is so tender that it falls off the bone. It's a slow cook type of meal and you can taste the results of that. Here, the meat was harder than it should have been, which indicates to me that they probably cut some corners. The risotto, on the other hand, was solid. As was the portion size. I was just expecting better with the osso bucco. My friends got the veal (elephant ears). Talk about a portion size. Three huge veal cutlets and fries. You can see why they call them elephant ears! I tried a bite and enjoyed it more than my dish. Overall: There's a lot to like about Risoelatte. Some dishes are a hit and some are a bit of a miss so make sure to choose wisely! read more

This is definitely the best place we ate in Milan. It's kind of tucked away. We actually walked past it. They allowed us to come in without a reservation even though they were busy. The staff was friendly and helpful. They spoke English and Italian. There are multiple levels in the restaurant. We were seated towards the top. There is a lot of older decor. Looks like it's from the 60's. The food was very good. We started with Mondeghili which are Milanese style meatballs. They had beef, parmesan, and mortadella. If you're in Milan on vacation and are staying near the Duomo, I highly recommend checking out Risoelatte - it is such a FUN & UNIQUE restaurant, and the food was so good! We had heard the restaurant was a "must-see" from some friends of ours who recommended the restaurant during our stay in Milan so we couldn't wait to check it out. When we walked into the restaurant, we were immediately amazed by the unique atmosphere of the restaurant, you really feel like you stepped back in time to the 1960's. The entire restaurant was so unique, fun, and colorful. From the retro mint blue colored walls to the old school diner tables with red leather cushioned chairs, to the dining room set inside a recreation of a retro 1960's kitchen, to the clothes lines hanging from the ceiling with granny panties and vintage clothes hanging off them - you can't help but be amazed by all the details incorporated in the décor of the restaurant. Our table was small booth table under an open window with red checkered window covers on it, in a corner of the restaurant, and the cool breeze coming in from the window was really refreshing. For our date night, this place was a cute place to go to. Besides the fun retro atmosphere, the food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Once of our favorite dishes you absolutely MUST TRY is the Risotto Con Ossobuco - it was one of the best dishes we had in all of Milan. Another favorite dish of ours was the pesto sauce pasta, we really enjoyed it. It was full of flavor and the pasta was fresh and homemade. It was delicious as well! The service at Risoelatte was excellent, everyone took excellent care of us during our entire meal. From the moment we arrived everyone was so welcoming, and the server took her time to explain the menu, make recommendations, and made great suggestions for menu items we should try. We were never rushed or hurried which was nice, we were able to take our time to enjoy the food, and the company of one another, and enjoyed a great date night. Overall, we had a great time dining at Risoelatte, the food was delicious, and we absolute loved the fun atmosphere of the restaurant. If you're looking for a unique dining experience with great food, I highly recommend making a reservation and checking out this hidden gem in Milan. No spinach, broccoli, chickory, kale, etc....i think I remember seeing basil in one of the main plates. That said, the setting is very whimsical. We decided for two super Milan classics, risotto milanese with ossobuco and bone-in veal cutlet fried in ghee. Both were excellent, the risotto was properly cooked, enclosed in a luscious cream (but without cream!) made of butter, Parmesan, stock and the rice starch. The ossobuco was super tender and came off the bone so easily, fantastic. The cutlet was tender and moist, fried perfectly. I really enjoyed it. Desserts were delicious too. This is a tough review to make as the reviews I have read are outstanding. I surely hope I just caught this restaurant on a bad night and/or ordered the wrong dish. My girlfriend and I visited Risoelatte on our last night in Italy after spending two weeks traveling throughout the country, including Sicily, Venice, Cinque Terre and finally Milan. We both consider ourselves to be "foodies" and had many outstanding meals throughout the trip. We hoped to finish on a positive note after the many positive reviews we read about Risoelatte. We were fortunate, or at least we thought, to get a table at this restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but special. The 1960s theme of the restaurant provides a great vibe and atmosphere for dinner. However, the positive review stops here. I understand this is a family run restaurant, but the waitress appeared overwhelmed all night. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant, which I believe encompassed around 15-20 tables. It took almost a half hour before we were even able to place our order. We placed our order for the local specialty of Risotto alla Milanese and wine. We were informed this would take around a half hour to cook (completely understandable and refreshing that it was made from scratch) and should order an appetizer. We quickly decided on an appetizer, but no one returned to our table until the main course arrived a half hour later. We were left to munch on extremely hard bread that was challenging to eat. So much for ordering an appetizer. The meal arrived and did not come close to meeting our expectations. The risotto had an awful aftertaste and the taste resembled a box of Craft Macaroni & Cheese. Although we believe it was authentically prepared, it tasted terrible. We were not asked once how our meal was and our table was never cleared. After finishing our meal and sitting for about ten minutes, we walked to the register to pay. The owner took our money and never asked once how our meal was despite the fact that we overheard him conversing with other customers and even offering them an aperitif following their meal. We were not offered an aperitif, despite the fact that the menu stated it was included in the 3 Euro copertito. Perhaps we just caught this restaurant on a bad night as there are many positive reviews, but I can easily say it was the worst meal we had during our travels through Italy. I would advise looking elsewhere for a special meal in Italy as this restaurant left a bad taste in our mouths, both literally and metaphorically. read more

We ordered ravioli with pesto sauce, risotto ossobuco, and risotto with apples and speck (Italian cured meat). Everything was delicious!!! Seriously, the Italians sure know how to make risotto. This is something very difficult to find in North America. The texture of the rice was creamy and not too thick. The grain was plump and tasted softer than al dente. They do risotto here and they do it many different ways, all sublime. Whether it is fried, or fruit of the forest with blue cheese, or straight milk and pepper style, you can't go wrong. But the basil torte? Out of this world. Premium everything, slow food at it's accessibly-priced finest, with an emphasis on wines from Langhe and Valtenlina (!!!) this was an all-time experience. Comfort food in a comfortable location. Very cool to be transported to your grandma's kitchen as soon as you walk in. The restaurant has an old school retro vibe that really works to put you at ease. On recommendations from everything I've read, we got the Milanese risotto with osso bucco on top. fahgettaboudit.... Super strong flavors in the saffron risotto and wonderful meaty gravy on the osso bucco. My wife and I both really loved it. We also had the cheese plate that came with 3 different jams, all of them really sweet and perfect with the cheese. Last was a pasta with a bolognese style sauce. Walked in without reservations and the staff was nice enough to ask us to come back in 45 minutes. There is tons to do in the area so we were happy to oblige. I'm so glad to have found this place on yelp! My boyfriend wanted to try authentic hearty food that only the locals would come to and sure enough, every single dish we ordered, he loved it. To the point where he wanted to order more from the menu after we were so full. It's such a cute place that takes you back to how it was so many years ago in Italy. We got squid as our appetizers. My boyfriend wanted to try their carbonara which was superb and I got the eggplant parmesan. Everything was seasoned to perfection and we ate up every bite. When I was recommended by a friend for this place as our top spot in Milan, I wasn't entirely sold post google. Sure the place was cute and kitschy but I wanted some seriously good food but mostly Milanese cutlet. This place was as delicious as the decorations are nostalgic. It's set up in a neat sort of half tiered seating as it goes up half a floor and then up one more half for the full floor. The place is decorated in reminiscent articles of the 50's/60's that bring the realization of what it would have looked like if I had an adorable Italian grandma. We got a cute little table for three and ordered the house wine, cheese plate, meatballs, cacio e Pepe. cotoletta and ossobuco. I want to say any one of these were not that great but I really can't. The cheese plate was served with what seemed like the most delicious house made applesauce, something I never knew I needed with my cheese. The beef meatballs had morsels of pumpkin in a tomato sauce that was so light and perfect. The cotoletta was enormous to say the least. Perfectly crusted with flaky salt and bits of sage, little potatoes, and a yellow sort of aioli that didn't overpower but simply accented everything going on. The cacio was a perfect amount of creamy with just the right amount of black pepper. But the real star was that ossobuco- holy moly how is anything that delicious!? The rich risotto and bone marrow and fall off the bone meat. Please, just get it. You'll be happy you did. TLDR; this was one of the best meals I had during my time in Italy.
