From the ambiance I expected this place to not live up to expectations but it was actually pretty great. Every dish I had here was excellent. Reservations are likely needed in advance and can be booked. The riso e latte dishes are good (as they should be) and so is the ossobuco, highly recommended. I was also able to try the gnocchi which was also very good.

This is definitely the best place we ate in Milan. It's kind of tucked away. We actually walked past it. They allowed us to come in without a reservation even though they were busy. The staff was friendly and helpful. They spoke English and Italian. There are multiple levels in the restaurant. We were seated towards the top. There is a lot of older decor. Looks like it's from the 60's. The food was very good. We started with Mondeghili which are Milanese style meatballs. They had beef, parmesan, and mortadella. The Veal Milanese was perfectly fried and had delicious flavor. I highly recommend coming here if you are in Milan.

If you're in Milan on vacation and are staying near the Duomo, I highly recommend checking out Risoelatte - it is such a FUN & UNIQUE restaurant, and the food was so good! We had heard the restaurant was a "must-see" from some friends of ours who recommended the restaurant during our stay in Milan so we couldn't wait to check it out. When we walked into the restaurant, we were immediately amazed by the unique atmosphere of the restaurant, you really feel like you stepped back in time to the 1960's. The entire restaurant was so unique, fun, and colorful. From the retro mint blue colored walls to the old school diner tables with red leather cushioned chairs, to the dining room set inside a recreation of a retro 1960's kitchen, to the clothes lines hanging from the ceiling with granny panties and vintage clothes hanging off them - you can't help but be amazed by all the details incorporated in the décor of the restaurant. Our table was small booth table under an open window with red checkered window covers on it, in a corner of the restaurant, and the cool breeze coming in from the window was really refreshing. For our date night, this place was a cute place to go to. Besides the fun retro atmosphere, the food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Once of our favorite dishes you absolutely MUST TRY is the Risotto Con Ossobuco - it was one of the best dishes we had in all of Milan. Another favorite dish of ours was the pesto sauce pasta, we really enjoyed it. It was full of flavor and the pasta was fresh and homemade. It was delicious as well! The service at Risoelatte was excellent, everyone took excellent care of us during our entire meal. From the moment we arrived everyone was so welcoming, and the server took her time to explain the menu, make recommendations, and made great suggestions for menu items we should try. We were never rushed or hurried which was nice, we were able to take our time to enjoy the food, and the company of one another, and enjoyed a great date night. Overall, we had a great time dining at Risoelatte, the food was delicious, and we absolute loved the fun atmosphere of the restaurant. If you're looking for a unique dining experience with great food, I highly recommend making a reservation and checking out this hidden gem in Milan. We look forward to returning to Risoelatte on our next trip to Milan.

Ossobucco with saffron risotto and veal Milanese

Cute and charming restaurant with a 50s style decor, in a bustling area of Milan. The veal Milanese was delicious- so thin and perfectly crispy. Ossobucco with saffron risotto was a must, though we liked the other veal better. Nice simple side salad to go with everything. It seemed like three young women were running the whole (busy) restaurant, but the service was great! Definitely the place for classic Milanese dishes- make sure to get a reservation in advance!

We stopped by Risoelatte without reservations and the owner was nice enough to accommodate us right away. The atmosphere has such cozy vibes. Literally felt like we walked inside grandma's house. The service was amazing and also gave us good recommendations. We ordered the risotto with ossobuco and cotoletta in milanese style. The ossobuco was flavorful and delicious, super tender and fell off the bone. The cotoletta was simple, yet perfectly fried and tender. We also ordered tiramisu to end the course. Was glad we were able to end our Italy trip with this meal.

This place has good reviews for a reason. It is decorated like a home and feels like I'm in nonna's kitchen. The cochetta was extremely delicious, one of the best things I've eaten in Italy. Get it milanese style, it's what they're known for! It was cooked to perfection and extremely tender. We also had a pesto pasta that was also delicious!!!

    Risotto milanese con ossobuco, buonissimo!

Cute little restaurant in the heart of Milan, with a '60s inspired decor, and a menu full of classic Milan dishes. We decided for two super Milan classics, risotto milanese with ossobuco and bone-in veal cutlet fried in ghee. Both were excellent, the risotto was properly cooked, enclosed in a luscious cream (but without cream!) made of butter, Parmesan, stock and the rice starch. The ossobuco was super tender and came off the bone so easily, fantastic. The cutlet was tender and moist, fried perfectly. I really enjoyed it. Desserts were delicious too. The menu was full of interesting options, will need to come back. Highly recommended!

We made a reservation not sure how it is to for walkins. They sat us right away. The server was so nice and graciously spoke English to us. The food is delicious and the panna cotta was our favorite part. This restaurant is just adorable you must go if you are in Milan!

Pinch is a total replica of American hipster craft cocktail bars, in Milan. The bartenders wear suspenders and do tricks with shakers. I'm waiting for an ironic mustache, preferably like the Moretti guy has. The drinks are exceptional. When I was there, they had one made of green tomatoes and mountain pine liqueur that was a taste party in my mouth. The aperitivo snacks are also really excellent, a small tray of various interesting crunchy things. No potato chips -- we're talking samosas in wonton wrappers with sweet chili sauce, Indian curry rice, a ham-arugula roll, and baba ghanoush. My second drink didn't quite match the first, but it was close. Also, the only bar in Milan that gave me *zero* grief about wanting a simple glass of tap water. In fact, they just give you one. Mega bonus points for that. I'm sick of paying for "aqua panna Toscana" that I neither need nor want. Been drinking Milan tap water in my hotel room for four days now. It's fine. Pour it on. Food offerings from the regular menu are a little hit or miss, but on the other hand, I had kind of stuffed myself with aperitivo. Had I been hungry, might've been a different story.

Pinch is a new bar right in Ripa di Porta Ticinese, not in the pedestrian part of the Naviglio, which means they don't have outside seating - except for the tables at the windows. It has a retro vibe, as if you entered a 1920s bar, dim lights, soft 1920's music; elegant but not ostentatious atmosphere. The cocktails list has about 15 signature cocktails, all with an explanation of the alcoholic level (medium or high), taste (fresh, spicy, bitter, etc.) and of course the ingredients, classic cocktails with a twist, made extremely well, with good ingredients. They also have a food menu but I didn't check it out since we were there for the aperitivo - which then turned into after-dinner drinks. I had the "South of the Border" with tequila, chartreuse vert, lime juice, sugar syrup and fresh mint, it was fresh and delicious, then I had another one and another one... just to be sure they were made perfectly ;) For the aperitivo, our cocktails were 8 euro each and the waiter (who looked like Robert Pattinson) brough a small tray with some snacks: rice and salad in small glasses, chips, mini-sandwiches and a couple of vol-au-vents - not enough to fill our stomachs completely but also not the average greasy aperitivo food. Nice staff, a full bar with quality bottles and clean bathrooms complete the experience. Too bad it's far from my house, but worth the subway trip back!

To start, my friend and I tried the red mullet with chestnut creme and the spicy duck with pumpkin fritter. Both dishes were delicious but I especially liked the duck. The depth of flavor in both the tender meat and the fritters made for an auspicious start to the meal. We followed up by splitting the Spaghettoni "Benedetto Cavalieri". I can tell why it never leaves the menu. So simple, but perfectly executed. Finally, the pork belly. The star of this dish was the celeriac cream. So refreshing next to the heavy pork belly. The food was great but what really stood out was how nice everyone was! The service in the well-appointed dining room was top notch with wine advice and care to describe each ingredient, but the folks at Belè went even above this. In a careless error, I left my phone at the restaurant and it was too late to retrieve it before an early flight the next afternoon. The restaurant helped me get it shipped back and stayed in contact to make sure I received it. Go for the food, stay for the wonderful people, and check for your phone before you leave!

Be ready when the waitress comes because this spot can be quite busy and they have a lot of ground to cover. Semi-pro tip: Whatever the question asked, the correct answer is "Si!" (this worked for me!) The salami and cheese appetizer was wonderful, with at least four kinds of sliced, flavorful preserved meat and wonderful cheeses including handmade, fresh mozzarella. In fact, when you add on the huge, free basket of focaccia and other types of bread, the appetizer alone is enough for four people. As for pizza, the dish here is not the thin and crispy style available elsewhere in Milan. Instead, it is a huge pillowy slice with whatever toppings you select. The small slice is massive and cannot easily be consumed unless you are very hungry. Alternatively, you can take as much time as you need since, in common Italian fashion, there is no rush. Savor and enjoy. Finally, for the ultimate in taste and texture, try the gnocchi with four cheeses. It's creamy, cheesy goodness with a slight pungent bite of Gorgonzola mixed in. This definitely blows away every Mac and Cheese on the entire planet. Bam. Done! Winner!!!

We wanted to take our guests to the Navigli district to show them the river, have a great meal and experience the nightlife after the sun went down. I emailed several restaurants along the Navigli a few days before to ask if they would be able to accommodate 28 people. For one reason or another, I couldn't get anyone to take us! But Mattia Bilotta at the Asso Di Fiori - Osteria dei Formaggi emailed me back right away and was happy to have us. He asked that we pick a few antipasti, a few primi Piatti, a few secondi piati and a few desserts so that they could be ready in advance. When we got off the subway, there was a lot of graffiti on the walls of the buildings and I was worried that I was in a bad part of town as we walked up to the restaurant. But once we reached the river from the subway, I felt better about it. And when I entered the restaurant to let them know that we were here, there was a huge stuffed cow in the middle of the dining room! I knew the kids would LOVE that, but I was not prepared for how much the adults would love it. Once we were seated, Mr. Bilotta brought out a small black board with the meals we agreed on in advance written on the menu. He also allowed us to order the specials of the day, which were written on a big black board on one wall of the restaurant. This meal was everyone's favorite of the trip, by far. Every dish that came out was more incredible than the last. Each person ordered what they wanted, but when the food came out, it was so delicious they were compelled to pass their dishes to people sitting around them saying, "you HAVE to try this!!" We sat and laughed and ate for hours. Some people even ordered more entrées after they were done because the food was so good! Visited June 2013
