Was walking by and in the corner of my eyes I saw a glorious cheese meet board ever! We walked by and the image was locked in our heads that we turned around and stopped by. The cured meats was AMAZING so so so good, stuff you cant get in the States. The cheese and spread was amazing as well. The sweet goat cheese and Gorgonzola spread was a perfect match for the salty meats. Ask for the local brew that they serve in wine bottles. Also a medium is well enough for 2-3 people. If your going for lunch get a medium board and make delicious sandwiches if your going for drinks get a board to share. No matter what, it's a must have!!!

Walked in an got excited. The ambience is great; Wooden tables, crate looking stools, wooden ceiling, chandelier. Prosciutti and salami hanging from the ceiling. They allowed me to taste the wine I was ordering by the glass. The taglieri - wooden boards full of cheese, hams, grilled vegetables, honey and bread are mouth watering. Highly recommend the place. They even have bamboo cutlery and paper plates, glass wine glasses. A real treat.

Medium board and a bottle of house wine

This place was great. There are a lot of other options, along the canal, but I am glad we chose this restaurant. We couldn't sit outside, because it was full, but inside was pretty cool, anyway. A bottle of the house wine, for €8,00 was pretty great. The medium sized meat, cheese, fruit & veggie + board was incredible. Everything tasted better than expected. The employees were great. The girl who took our order was very friendly and didn't seem to care that I didn't speak Italian. I wish I did, but am thankful she was so nice and knew English.

    Large charcuterie plate.

Ordered the large charcuterie plate (pictured) and a bottle of Chianti as dinner for four of us. Perfect amount and great food. The place is very popular for the area and gets busy quickly, so arrive early (19:00) if you want a table without a wait.

Apertivo "happy hour" Milan by the Navigli district is a must.

A basket of breads and a bowl of olives were served to us by our waiter, Fabio. I asked his recommendation for a nice red wine that was smooth. He chose a delicious wine, perfect for the main dish beef I planned to order. My husband ordered a wonderful fizzy water that we hope we can find at home. I am celiac, so no bread for me. However, my husband said the pillowy focaccia was his favorite out of the selections in the basket. Let me tell you about the olives: they were the best green olives I have ever had, popping with garlic flavor, and their texture was perfect. They tasted home-made to me! We started the meal with a selection of cheeses which came with a pot of honey and a pot of a caramelized red onion-reduced in red wine and sweetened with a little sugar. The onion condiment was divine. It was best when topped on the truffle cheese. Main courses arrived later. My steak fillet was the softest beef I have ever eaten. In fact, it was truly the best steak I have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection! My husband ordered the sea bass and grilled veggies. We split the veggies. For dessert my husband selected a flan-like dessert that was smooth and silky while I chose a green apple sorbet that had a French Norman brandy (Calvados) on top. This was a sensational pop of flavors. Ending the meal with coffee, we promised ourselves to return on our next trip to Milano. Thank Fabio for excellent service and for making our last dinner in Milan a meal to remember!

Well we ended up choosing La Carbonaia and we were not left disappointed, or at least, not completely. The place is very small and characteristic, the grill is front and center with a display of costate fiorentine in front. I like the vibe. They bring a complimentary appetizer, mondeghili, typical Milanese fried meat balls, de-li-cious. I order a grigliata mista and the others order a fiorentina. The grigliata mista is kind of disappointing, especially the serving size. It's a very small plate with just three types of meats, I expected more quantity. It was very good, but not filling at all. The fiorentina was delicious, with some very tender pieces and other not so tender ones. Very rare, they don't even ask how you want it, that's the way you have to have it anyway, all in all a good experience.

The 2 dishes we got was ok, but not for the price. The bread was from yesterday or perhaps been cut this morning dry and tasteless. The waitress spoke little to no English, and in the middle of our meal the started to take away Parmesan from our table ?? Definitely sub standard for Milan even if the price was 1/2. Would not recommend!

Based on the photos that people have posted of this establishment so far, it looks like a dump. But walk in, walk through the narrow hallway, past the bathroom and the kitchen, and you are transported to an absolutely adorable candle-lit garden-like restaurant with a mini fountain in the middle. So romantic. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Milan; great atmosphere (as described above), good food, good price, and friendly staff. Recommended dishes: -Spaghetti with tomato sauce. Sounds plain... but absolutely divine, and hands down the BEST I've ever had. Maybe it's because I haven't tried a lot in Italy... but no matter. Trattoria Toscana does it great. -Pesto lasagna. Not your average lasagna but the pesto is really good! The seafood spaghetti was not the best I've had, but it was solid. I also got the sea bass to share with my friend, and it was pretty bland and passable. They do good pasta, but everything else is mediocre. And everything is priced extremely reasonably! Average plate of pasta is under 10 euros. The staff here are really nice and accommodating. My friend was indecisive about two dishes, and the waitress just let him have one for free, "so we could all try it, *wink." So nice of her! Highly recommend this place for a group dinner (there is a lot of seating), or a romantic date!
