This spot was low key and was an overachiever. When our waiter dropped off the bread and said "here's some good bread" we thought he was kidding, but it was the best we had in Italy over 2 weeks. Went there in June. If you don't have a reservation you will likely eat inside. There is no noticeable AC but it was like most other restaurants in that way. Caprese salad was basic. Fine. Jetlagged and famished, we walked around the corner from our hotel and spotted Georgio setting up the chalkboard easel listing the specials. Loved it. The biggest issue, really only issue, was the speed of the kitchen. The two male servers tried to keep you updated but after receiving our octopus and side salad, we waited over 45 minutes for our next dish. The ambience is OK, although it's a bit crowded and noisy, but maybe that's the way we should expect it as a relatively small space that's very popular with diners - both locals and tourists. Everything was delicious and fresh! We're from Los Angeles and we find it remarkable how we were able to eat a whole pizza, salad, a fish pasta and tiramisu and not feel bloated or lethargic afterwards. Everything was served at a perfect temperature (I love my food to be hot) and we told the waitress it was our 8th anniversary so at the end of our meal, they turned the lights off then the owner came out with tiramisu with candles on top and Ed Sheeran playing. We got back late from a tour to Lake Como and Switzerland and were looking for a place to eat close to our hotel. I found this place and they seated us immediately around 10pm. The meal started with complimentary prosecco, which was unexpected and lovely. The food was INCREDIBLE. Standouts were definitely the truffle tortelli and the tagliatelle with pear and Gorgonzola...but the osso buco, veal Milanese and tagliatelle with ragu were also delicious. Service was amazing...I wish I got our server's name, but she had every table in the restaurant and there was never an empty glass or plate that needed to be cleared. Came here on a whim for our last night in Italy (out of 15 days) and was greeted warmly by Georgio, promptly seated and given a welcome glass of Prosecco and then told to relax and enjoy the evening. The pizza was the best we've had in Italy and the waiter and owner were so fun and kind! We were given a free dessert as well. There are lots of outdoor restaurants with tables on the sidewalk to choose from in the Central Station Area. My wife and I did not want a typical tourist meal but rather a bit more local venue. Our concierge at our hotel made a few suggestions. We selected one just a few minutes' walk from the hotel and main rail station. Osteria Fara has a small entrance with no outside fan-fare. The entrance opens onto a large courtyard where they have their outdoor seating. You are seated nicely away from the street traffic noise. The restaurant also has a large indoor seating area as well. Service is friendly and very responsive to our requests. You can dine as fast or as slowly as you would like. We decided to share four (4) items from the menu. We shared a warm asparagus starter, a spaghetti pasta dish, their special grilled branzino and a desert. It was perfect; all of the dishes were excellent. The portions were generous, so our decision to share was a good one. The wine selections are also extensive (no surprise in Italy). Once seated additional Prosecco was poured and we also received bruschetta. For dinner we split a pizza and gnocchi Alla sorrentina which were fantastic. I went here with my boyfriend to try the Osso Bucxo typical on Milan. I also tried the pacherri Fara and I tried the Osso Bucco and saffron risotto and everything was delicious. The bread is warm, crunchy, and homemade, we had two baskets of bread. The host served us champagne (3 rounds) and at the end of dessert, we were given two shots each of limoncello on the house. The service was phenomenal, the food was delicious. My boyfriends only complaint was the al dente risotto but that is very typically of most pasta and rice dishes in Italy, so just personal preference. With a warm Northern Italian welcome first impressions of Osteria Fara were very impressive. Recommended to us by the Concierge at the Milano Hilton, this restaurant is very lively and a neat neighborhood gem in what is otherwise quite a business district in the city of Milano! If you know the Milanese gourmet scene, you'll agree that Osteria Fara is not up there with other more glamorous restaurants, and yet I find myself coming back for more, always being rewarded with an excellent experience and great value. I don't usually go for menus offering a bit of everything, but the restaurant has managed to select a few well-thought-through entries for each section, avoiding the overwhelming clutter á-la-Cheesecake Factory. You have option of pizza (which I never tried), pasta, seafood and meat "secondi" (main course), and you're always served a complimentary amuse-bouche (usually bruschetta, or occasionally a tartine with salmon cream) and a basket of "focaccia ligure" made in house. If you don't pace yourself, that alone might fill your belly. I've ordered everything from fried seafood to artichoke salad, from "costoletta alla milanese" (which some might call schnitzel while also infuriating the Milanese who claim to have invented it) to smoked salmon with capers. Skip the schnitzel, and instead order the "spaghetti allo scoglio in cartoccio di pane al forno", which is a seafood pasta, perfectly "al dente" and then re-cooked in the oven under a pizza dough wrapping, which is the concept of "cartoccio". Minimum order is for two people, and the waiter takes care of the splitting, serving you a mouth-watering dish that demands to be photographed. Again, it might not be the best seafood pasta in Milan, but for €14 p.p it's a steal, and a mighty delicious one. The personnel is fairly attentive for Italian standards, you're welcomed with a glass of Prosecco if you're waiting for the table and you won't be in trouble if your Italian is not up to snuff. Plus, for the business travelers out there, it accepts Amex, which is somewhat of a rarity in the "Bel Paese". The only downside is that many dishes require a minimum order of 2 people, but that's not uncommon when you're looking for branzino, orata (bream) or rombo (turbot) in the oven. This place is amazing! We stopped by here after trying to get into two other restaurants down the street. So glad we ended up at this one! We ate in the courtyard....super cute surrounded with high walls and a view of the sky. Our server Nicholas was the BEST!!! He made the experience a Top 10 in my book! Attentive and humorous, I would go back just to have him be our server. Nicholas brought us bread and champagne to start with. Next, my daughter and I shared shrimp cocktail and a caprese salad. The shrimp cocktail was so good! My daughter had linguini with shrimp and I had linguini with lobster. Just a heads up...it's shellfish in the shells!!
