We were lucky is have Peck located next to our hotel. We first visited as soon as we arrived to Milan after an 8 hour flight, we were starving. Wow, what a selection of meats, cheeses, prepared foods and so much more. We bought some meats, cheese and fresh bread and brought it back to our hotel. Everything was delicious. We went back another day and ate there. We ordered a selection of small plates and a meat and cheese platter. The service was very nice. You could tell locals stop in for restocking their pantries, preparing that evening's meal, or even gifting. I ate at the restaurant inside by the gelato bar and it was a quick and casual thing. Ordered the classic club sandwich and the salmon club sandwich with mozzarella arancini. It was very filling and tasted great. After, we had gelato and the flavors were wonderful! A fabulous gourmet shop where you can find an array of cheeses, salami, and pastries, amongst many other ready made Italian dishes to dine in or Take out. The store also houses a cafe/bar to enjoy an aperitivo. This is a lovely place to also shop for goodies such as cookies, cantucci, chocolates, etc to bring back home. You order what you want from those behind the counter and then they give a ticker that you take to the two cashiers that are sitting there, pay for the goods while the people behind the counter wrap up your goods. This is a confusing deli. I purchased gelato, fruit, two bottled drinks, and a cheese. You're not allowed to touch the fruit (or other produce), and have to have a service person bring it to you after purchase (except the check out people don't seem to know this). For each item you want to purchase, you get both a tiny slip for that item, and then a plastic card which is scanned. Your items are added to the plastic card. But you have to present both the tiny slips and the plastic card at the 'cash counter' to pay. Note that the 'cash counter' takes cards, and if you want to pay cash, there is a different 'cash counter', even though all the check outs are called that. Except for ice cream..ice cream, you have to purchase before you can select your flavors. And that doesn't have to go on your card. It was a very confusing experience (made worse by the check out staff not bringing me the fruit or other items). Just a horrible experience. I won't go back. The food did seem good quality, though. read more

I visited Peck and only the gourmet deli market part of the shop. Pointed out by my tour guide, I returned later and picked up a small bit of cheese and some crackers to have as a snack in the hotel room. Easy enough to understand the prices and find something small enough to make as a snack, the shop has all sorts of tasty goodies including cheeses and meats and savories and yes, lots of sweets. The young lady who rang up my sale might not have understood English, but that's not important when all you need to do is insert a credit card. Good stuff and an easy shop. Peck is an institution in Milan, a very high end "rosticceria" where you can find everything from meat to ready to eat food to fresh pasta to prosciutti to bread and pastries. There is even a small stand for fresh fruits and veggies. On the second floor there is as bar were you can sit down and enjoy coffee, pastries or lunch. Everything here is top quality, you can't go wrong. Today we got some ricotta and spinach ravioli, which we made with browned butter, sage (fried crispy in the butter), and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Absolutely spectacular. Then we got some vitello tonnato, a classic northern style cold dish made of thinly sliced veal covered in a tuna/mayo sauce. Absolutely outstanding. Exactly like my mom used to make, very rare to find such a good vitello tonnato outside home. It's a bit pricey but it's expected, you should not go if you are on a budget... The ordering system is quite messy and old fashioned, there is no line, everybody has to keep track of who was first, they only shout "next". A numbering system would help, especially tourists out foreigners. Also, they give you a weird card, that you should bring around the various sections, if you're buying from many places, and then you go to the cashier. Once you'be paid, you go back to each station with the receipt to get your stuff. Very inconvenient and counterintuitive. Despite this, it's a 5* in my book, quality wins. read more

We visited this place during our layover. The restaurant was located on the second floor. There was a food shop on the first floor, where you can buy dessert, cold cuts, tea, pasta and other delicious items. There was also a school like area. Because of it was raining outside, we decided to have brunch here. It costed 60 euro per person, which was very pricy. Food was very good. You can definitely sample a good selection of items that they offer from downstairs. The staff were very welcoming and professional. The most beautiful, upscale food emporium in Milano. Just off the Piazza al Duomo, the store is on a small street Via Speronari. The windows will make you drool immediately. The counters are organized by type of food and these are displayed as if they are jewels. I was amazed by the prepared dishes with seafood and vegetables. Located on a side street about a minute walk from the Duomo, Peck is a good place to stop by to see and shop the various gourmet food and wine as well as dine at the restaurant upstairs. The wine selection is in the basement. The ground floor has the retail section with desserts, deli, meats, etc. The upstairs restaurant is popular with the locals as well as the tourists. The lighting is a bit too bright for my taste since it sorta reflects off the white table cloth, but a lot of businessmen are there so it's a good place for office luncheons. There's also free wifi; my waiter brought me the passcode without me asking. I had a delicious house made pasta with pork sausage that the waiter recommended for lunch. The wait staff are friendly and speak English. The bread basket is nothing special, but the pasta is delicious. It came out piping hot, and the pasta was cooked al dente just the way I like it! I didn't have dessert, but they have a cart that they push to your table so you can see which one you like. I also took awhile after finishing my meal to sip on the sparkling water since I had a whole bottle. I like that the waiter didn't rush me. Came here for lunch on a rec with regards to great risotto on the 2nd floor ( restaurant level) Was immediately given table with bread and a small, light tomato gazpacho (which was delicious!). opted for the Risotto Milanese and a plate of Spinach Raviolo. So sometimes when you are eating bruschetta you feel like it is missing something. You think ... "damn this bruschetta would be so much better if I had balsamic vinegar ..." Then you are like, "fuck ... I don't have any ..." The sadness overwhelms you. (Like when you overeat soggy pasta and cry all night because you paid 60 euro for it) But suddenly you are like wait, and you totally remember ... "I'm in fucking Italy right now yo." (A small lightbulb appears overhead - like LED sized) You think, "OK I'm gonna Google the shit out of this." You learn that Modena, (the city famous for many things including the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari who started a small car company of the same last name), is actually where balsamic vinegar originated. Adrenalin surges. "Oh fuck, I'm gonna go to Modena and get balsamic!" (A huge light bulb appears overhead - like street lamp sized) But then it hits you. "God dammit, I'm in Milan right now ..." (The huge lightbulb explodes shattering glass all over you. Blood streams down your face. It is glossy. Viscous. A dark reddish-brown. You taste it. It does not taste anything like balsamic vinegar). You feel sad. Oh so sad. Because you really had your heart set on buying a Ferrari. You have forgotten your goals. Your dreams. Your bruschetta. Then you remember the thing that is known as the grocery store. You connect this idea with the concept of "googling the shit out of things" ... And you learn of a thing called Peck. They do not sell Ferraris - but they do sell balsamic vinegar that seems just as expensive. They have many things in this gorgeous store - and the balsamic vinegar does not disappoint. From Modena even. Worth the $200+ bucks you will pay for it? I don't know, and I don't care. My bruschetta tastes sublime. And I just saved $249,800 dollars ... and who knows how fucking much on car insurance. read more

This is the most beautiful deli Ive seen. Actually, deli isn't really accurate. It is a higher end, more specialty oriented version of perhaps the Whole Foods(or Draegers) deli+cheese-counter+prepared-foods+bread. We had a number of the prepared dishes: ravioli, a baked eggplant dish, and a few others as well as something from the cheese counter, a Mortadella, something from the bread counter, some anchovy+caper stuffed pepper, and a few other things. They have a great selection of cured meats as you would expect in Italy. And a very large selection of cheeses from around Europe. The only downside is that it is very expensive. Two people, with eyes bigger than their stomachs, can easily spend 80 Euros on dinner. Of course, it is central Milan and it is a very upscale concept. read more

My wife had this place bookmarked and we were lucky enough to find it in the pouring rain on our first day in Italy. This was a much needed relief! The service was beyond perfect. When we walked in, we were a bit indecisive about whether we wanted to eat here or not. The host let us walk around and see what they have, without any pressure. We quickly realized it was good idea, and they sat us immediately. Probably the cleanest buffet I've ever had the pleasure to pig out at. All the plates and silverware were spotless and so shiny you can check your hair in the reflection. The tablecloths were immaculate. Every item was carefully crafted, and seemed to consist of high quality, local ingredients. The prosciutto and other cured meats blew my mind. And interestingly, they seemed to bring out new stuff to the buffet as time went by. I've never seen this before. At 60€ per head, it is kinda expensive. And at that price point, I would've expected a lot more choices, not that it would've made a difference because I was stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. read more

Friends of mine suggested to have a lunch in this location, which has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is attentive and discrete. On the ground floor there is a delicatessen shop, where you can have brunch. On the first floor is the dining area. As I hadn't much hunger, I chose only a firsts course platter, which was ravioli with ricotta and spinach in sage and butter sauce. I accompanied it with one glass of red wine of the house (Brunello Di Montalcino). The pasta was a delight to eat. It melted on the tongue releasing the taste of ricotta and spinach. I enjoyed every bite and every sips of wine. The wine was fruity and you could taste the full aroma of the grape. (After the course I had just another one). I finished the meal with the chocolate dessert of the house, consisting of cream on a biscuit enveloped by squares of chocolate. To die for. Definitely a spot I would revisit. read more

Whilst an odd system it does make it less clunky to carry around and you can source a wonderful picnic for the nearby parks or in front of the Duomo. Be sure to pick up a large (and they mean large!) My review is for the ground-level shop. I found the atmosphere and service pleasant (not overwhelming and crowded). Their approach to tallying the bill worked smoothly and I was comfortable with the prices. I asked for a cheese recommendation and the one they selected for me was nice. I would be more enthusiastic except that the roll I purchased (for my little picnic, to accompany the cheese) was dry and flavorless. I could barely tear through the crust with my teeth (not being equipped with a serrated knife). I threw most of it away, and since I am a breadie, that's saying a lot. read more
