Serving Florence since 1945 Trattoria Cammillo is where affluent locals go for homestyle cooking, though thanks to social media the space has landed on several lists with an associated influx of tourists able to make a reservation by phone since Cammillo has no website. Cozy with white-tablecloths and veteran servers, the arched brick ceiling stretching over marble floors, diners begin to arrive around noon for lunch when the same extensive menu as dinner is served until 14h30. Attesting to an older time, faded paintings and fixtures with a patina part of the charm, it is after perusing a large Wine list that Bread arrives followed by a selection of Cured Meats at a tab more precious than many but largely justified by the quality. Happy to defer an order to the waiter, a man who has been with the Trattoria for two decades, Tortellini en Brodo comes in a generous portion with good depth of flavor while Homemade Tagleirini with Ham and Artichoke Sauce is mild yet enjoyable. Faced with difficult decisions for Secondi, a number of plates featuring Offal juxtaposing Florentine classics, fans of Rabbit will find Cammillo fried version satisfying while Trippa alla fiorentina is rigorously cleaned and cooked in Tomatoes with a hint of Vinegar and Wine.

Another must try when in Florence. Cammillo is bit more upscale than its competition but is also a less known spot for tourists. Only true homemade meals are produced in this warm, cozy, exposed-brick-ceiling establishment. God I love some exposed brick. I went with the homemade pappardelle in a kissing garlic flowers sauce, as it was recommended by this regal older lady next to me who was also eating alone. I've found these opinions are to always be trusted. They serve the olive oil for salads in this cool can that I thought was a nice touch, and they also have really good breadsticks that I was F'in up ahahaha.

In a week of very good eating, this restaurant was one of the best. The unsalted bread (2 Euro per slice) with the local olive oil was amazing. I've never had olive oil that tasted like that before. I started with the arugula with Parmesan and pine nut salad and had the spaghetti with garlic and tomatoes. Very good. The Pear Tart for dessert was fantastic!!! Seeing David in a mostly empty room was the #1 best part of the trip and the pear tart was #2. Our server was great. The place wasn't that big so I would recommend having a reservation. We were there for a Thursday lunch in March and we were lucky to get a table.

On my most recent family trip in Italy I noticed that restaurants, osterias and trattorias take themselves very seriously, seeing themselves as defenders of Italian culture, history and professionalism. This pride animates the proprietors of ALL my favorite restaurants in Italy. In one case, on a recent trip (not Cammillo), the restaurant had no record of my reservation and was overbooked for the evening, but insisted that we would eat there anyway after I told the owner the other places we were eating on the trip. He wanted us to experience HIS interpretation of Italian food, in friendly competition with others. Which brings me to Ristorante Cammillo. One feels in good hands here. The professionalism is clearly evident without the stuffy artifice one sometimes sees in cities with lots of fancy Michelin-starred eateries. The food here is delicious and straightforward. We started with fried whatnots, moved to tortellini and tagliatelle and then roast chicken and beef, and ended with custard tarte and berry pie. They are pros here. Highly recommend. Best meal in Florence for us.

We went here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The staff were incredible. They were welcoming and service was spot on. The food was excellent , from the pastas to the steaks. Make reservations because it fills up every night.

Still one of our favorites, but we didn't order all that optimally on our latest visit. We got the cheese assortment, burrata with anchovies, tortellini in cream sauce, spaghetti with garlic and cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, trippa fiorentina, and the flourless chocolate cake. We really liked everything, but we didn't get any of our biggest hits from last time (besides for the cake) -- they didn't have their chickpea soup with pasta, and we thought we were getting the spaghetti with tomato sauce again, but it was a bit different. I really wanted to try the tripe, and while I liked it, I don't think I'd feel a need to get it again. Next time around, I might want to try their steak, and certainly will try different pastas. We were going to go back for a second dinner but ended up leaving Florence a couple days early. We'll be back to do it right next time we're in town though.

We make it a habit to dine here at least once every trip to Florence. Warm, attentive, delicious. Chicken liver and artichoke salad to start, veal and steak as the main course, a bottle of wine. Perfect. Make reservations.

From the moment we walked in the Owner welcomed us with open arms. It was getting busy and reservations were maxed out. Luckily she made room for us. The staff was amazing, we started getting our meals and OMG everything was phenomenal. No wonder there's always a line to get in. Truly home cooked meals! When In Florence this is a MUST TRY!

    Rabbit and Chips

Really cool atmosphere. Good food. I ordered the rabbit and chips. The rabbit was not too fatty and was tender and juicy. The breading was light. The flavor was very simple, reminiscent of chicken mcnuggets. The chips were freshly fried, crispy. Also these had a very simple flavor. Overall the dish was very simplistic and lacked flavor complexity. But, it was good for what it was. The tiramisu was very custard heavy. The amaretto lightly glazed soping heaps of custard and lady fingers. This place was primarily locals and had excellent friendly service. The food was also fairly good.

I may seem to only have a few check in's here but if I actually checked in every time I've eaten here, I would be the Duke-ess. I've been coming here for twenty years, and it never fails to satisfy. From the pecorino brûlé to the lombatina di vitello or petti di pollo al curry (with house made Mango chutney) to the tiramisu ai cachi this is a wonderful place to eat. Please, leave your children elsewhere. This is an intimate white table elegant place. We want to enjoy it without your screaming child. Take them to a pizzaria. Of course, children are welcome here. The wine list is extensive and varied. I had my very first Amarone here. The staff is just the best - they are kind, multi-lingual, efficient, informative, accommodating and knowledgeable. Sunday's are mad but come anyway! Closed Wednesdays.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

Waiter was super friendly, taking time to explain their wines in detail and food options. They even have a kids menu with sizeable portions for older kids. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and it was definitely the best wine we had with meals in Florence. Gnocchi and wild boar taglietelle were outstanding. Had we had come earlier in our stay we might have come back again They also do a wine window which I wish I'd known about earlier because the other one we tried for fun was not good

The servers check in frequently and are quick to help with anything you need. The ambiance is lively with popular music, laughter, and conversation. We chatted with the table next to us on the way out and met some fellow Texans! On our way out, the owner also remembered my name and started introducing me to other tables to make friends. What a fun place to be! The food was absolutely amazing. When we saw them slicing the salami right in front of us, we decided to order the salami plate and we were so glad we did! The zucchini flower and saffron pasta was bursting with flavor and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. I couldn't get enough! The duck ragu pasta was also hearty, rich, and delicious. The sauce was so good, my family soaked up every last bit with our bread. The ricotta spinach ravioli was also amazing!! Again the sauce was such a standout. The ravioli was so fresh with the perfect amount of bite. The green pepper sauce steak was soooo good. Cooked perfectly, with such a unique sauce that the whole peppercorns added perfectly to in texture and spice. Finally, the raspberry tiramisu. We were so full, but when they set these down our dessert stomachs were ready. They were amazing! Not the strongest raspberry flavor, but still such a delicious end to the meal. Side note, you MUST have a reservation to eat here, and they only take reservations by call. Because I didn't have a way to call them, I asked my Airbnb hosts who did it for me (also amazing people). While we were eating, there was a crowd forming outside of people waiting to get in but unable to. It's so worth it to visit Vini e Vecchi Sappori! I'll definitely have to come back next time I'm in Florence.

We had our hotel call for us when we checked in and were lucky to grab a 1:30 lunch slot on a Thursday afternoon. We saw the fat physical reservation book when we went, and also saw an attempted walk-in get turned away. We wanted to go for dinner, but I'm just glad we were able to get in at all. Vini e Vecchi Sapori was easily my favorite restaurant in Florence. I loved the cozy, vibrant dining room, snug and eclectically decorated. We were at a table so tiny, I worried about pulling a muscle when I crossed my legs. It was nestled amongst other tiny tables, and abutted a counter where plates were put out for service and the reservation book set down in its glory next to my husband's head. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive. Our waiter basically told what to order and we obeyed him, with excellent results. The one-page handwritten menu, helpfully available in English, presented the day's offerings and this preemptive list of disclaimers: No Pizza No Cappuccino No The Fork No Ice No Spritz No Ketchup FUCK CANCER There was a brief selection of Italian wines by the glass, and we got the Chianti Classico and the Bruno de Montalcino, both lovely. The food was delicious, starting with good bread and good olive oil. We ordered the mixed Tuscany salami and the beef carpaccio as appetizers, and they were both superb and not in the least bit redundant. There were four or five types of salami, every one of them fantastic, and I loved the thin, silky carpaccio, served with rucola, parmesan, olive oil, and black pepper. We shared two splendid pastas, spinach ricotta ravioli in a creamy rose tomato sauce and a hearty pappardelle with duck ragu. For dessert, we had the lush, irresistible raspberries tiramisu. I plan to come back to Florence one day, and will make a point of coming back to Vini e Vecchi Sapori. It's a special restaurant, the kind you hope to find in Italy, a welcoming place with lively ambiance and wonderful food.

On top of the pain of securing a reservation (they only take these over the phone; no online system), the only slot I could secure even as a solo diner was as soon as they opened, at 6pm, and via a bar seat. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by several of the staff, all warm/kind. One of them offered me a table, even though I humbly mentioned I'd be fine with whatever was convenient to them. I looked around and saw what seemed to be majority American tourists so I had very standard expectations. Well, what commenced...my god. I'm getting chills now thinking about the entire experience. Just the absolute perfect dinner my first night in Florence. Everything on the menu looked fantastic and I was even tempted to order 2 Primi (pastas) but my server discouraged it, said they were quite large. Instead she guided towards the "must" appetizer, the "onion flan with pecorino cheese and truffle" followed by their signature pasta, "pappardelle with wild boar ragù" The appetizer literally brought me to tears as soon as I took a bite. I didn't think I liked truffle but this was life-changing. And the pasta was served piping hot and also to die for. I complemented the meal with a delicious glass of white and red and ended with the utterly divine tiramisu. I will be dreaming about this meal for years to come. So epic.
