    This review is not based on Translink as a public transportation, but about a certain percentage of the population that ride our system. People we are in a pandemic. We are entering a third wave. This is serious. I don't feel comfortable when people enter the elevator when it clearly states 2 person in an elevator at one time. I understand that there are families with more than two that is okay because you are in your bubble. Please respect the rules that are put in place by translink.

    3 bikes, (different parties) off peak, had to stand and HOLD bike,  not fall over themselves, & 'hold it in' on a long journey, no washrooms

    A fortnightly review of 'services' by Translink we endured: Airport arrival to town. Evergreen line to Vancouver Westside and return, Richmond to Evergreen extension and return. Purchase of stored value cards. Bicycle accompanying traveller. Bureaucratic nonsense. Not one star, because we eventually 'got there'. Slow, uncomfortable, expensive for what it is. Poor / 'MEH', because of value / quality / grey matter, the ill conceived, non thinking stuff. One would think seeking advice from HONG KONG / TOKYO (experts in moving people by train) could have avoided many of Vancouver's shortfalls. Lots of genuine 'head scratching' experiences: Can't buy the orange senior / concession card at a station, need to 'FIND' the correct retailer = unacceptable when the subcontractor called COMPASS doesn't know and sends client on a wild goose chase to: 'used to sell' , 'sometimes does', 'we never sell compass cards' locations. Default purchase at stations is at the HIGHEST possible fare = unacceptable. A 90 minute journey, changing lines, with no washroom = unacceptable. A bicycle brought on board was really difficult in off peak travel. One space, too narrow to fit the tire in the slot on the Canada Line. Other lines we couldn't 'FIND' a bicycle 'space, and 3 bikes on the train was ridiculously cumbersome OFF PEAK. When it gets busy ? = fugettaboutit, we never took a bike onto the system other than 'quiet times'. 13 bucks ONE WAY per person from Airport station x 4 = 52 bucks to town OFF PEAK! = too dear. You want cars off the road and you charge too much at the park n ride= unacceptable. Outsource to Compass, with it's poorly run helpline / sales = unacceptable. Compare to other North American cities: Portland Oregon has hooks to hang up bicycles on their much larger train cars. Free parking at park n rides. Buy senior ticket in any station. Affordable. Boston Massachusetts offers weekly passes for 22 bucks. Purchase pass at any 'hub', in the station. Affordable. Convenient easy connections without long in and out 'walkabouts'. No need to 'tap' out, tap 'in' during the SAME journey. Whom is genuinely pleased with Vancouver and it's too small train system ? Why were train cars and tracks of such a SMALL size and NARROW gauge selected in the 1st place? Why are stations ill equipped? We shudder to think what it's like during 'rush' hour or special events. Sympathy for long suffering users, and understanding why they get 'back into their cars' to AVOID this 'service' = incroyable ! TWO stars / 'meh'

    This should have been written years ago. After millions of dollars, Compass is the best they could think of? Why reinvent the wheel when they could have consulted the experts in London, Tokyo or HK. Crappy system with these transfer cards, let alone an environment hassle; elsewhere they use plastic tokens to drop off/tap. Oh one last thing, none of the management deserves making $100,000/year.

    We need more transit! Overall the transit in Surrey is the worst! Nothing compares to Vancouver on how fast it is!

SkyTrain sounds like a designer drug you'd see in a dystopian Sci-fi movie, but the only high this Skytrain gave me was the feeling of ease, when going from the airport to my hotel in downtown Vancouver. I wish they made public transportation that was this smooth all over the US and not just major cities. This train runs all over Vancouver and its outliers cities and is the preferred mode of transportation by locals. The maps are easy to figure out and there's no need to purchase a day pass. If you're just doing one or two quick trips. You can just tap your credit card on the entry turnstile and kaboom... you're cruising on the SkyTrain. Ready to chase the dragon called life? Then prepare to get lifted on the SkyTrain.

    Yelp Review 2023 #247:…read more I've used the SkyTrain in Vancouver to get to/from the airport using the Canada Line which takes about 30 minutes to the Waterfront Station when I'm staying at hotels nearby. From the airport, just follow the signs to SkyTrain. You'll have to go outside, cross the street, take 2-3 escalators to get to the station. There are kiosks you can use to purchase a pass/ ticket. You can pay with cash or card. And there's always a SkyTrain employee nearby should you need assistance. There's a train every 10 minutes. I've never had an issue using the SkyTrain. The times I've used it, the train was clean. There's free wifi onboard and space for luggage. There's a USB port under the window next to your seat so you can charge your phone. Be sure not to throw away your ticket as sometimes somebody checks for them. I've used the SkyTrain to get to Yaletown and Broadway and that's about it (outside of the airport and Waterfront).

They've renovated the station in recent years to include more escalators, which drastically improves the pedestrian flow. However, the really not-so-good part is that they didn't reconnect the sky bridge that used to link the station with Metropolis. Heard it was some dispute between the City and the owners of Metropolis. Now everyone is forced to cross Central at street level, which makes life a lot more difficult. Knock 1 star off.

There is also a pedestrian bridge across the road that leads to the bus terminal and shopping. Affordable, timely, spacious and clean. Damn efficient I may add. Let's just put it this way, if I were to drive from Coquitlam to Vancouver during rush hour, it would give me a numbing irritable experience as likely I would to have deal with impatient drivers, stuck in grid lock and deal with bumper to bumper traffic. Hop on the skytrain then take the connecting bus, no headache and no stress. And it is even FASTER and CHEAPER!!! So what is there not to like. Sure, the impatient teenager me once thought riding transit was terrible, cuz I haven't yet been stuck on Highway One due to some jackass thought he was clever and can be quick weaving in and out finally causing a multiple pile-up blocking all lanes. I'll take the skytrain over driving any day especially during rush hour.

With that said, I still can't believe they had to tear up those brand new bus lanes running (they were there for less than 2 years) down No.3 Road. The stations are nice and clean, though their size leaves much to be desired. There is barely enough room to stand around on the platforms. The trains are wider than those of the Expo line, but they're also much shorter (2 cars instead of 4). Also you can tell they cheaped out when the stations on the Richmond side literally jut out onto the freaking street. Would it really have cost that much more to slide the entire station 3m to one side? One thing I always like to do is sit at the front of the trains and look out the front window. If you haven't done this before, it's actually pretty cool. The biggest complaint I have about the Canada Line is the fact that the trains only run every 10 minutes or so. Compare that to the Expo Line (1 every 2 minutes) during rush hour. Having the signs that show the ETA of the next train is nice, but it really sucks when you look up and see that you still have to wait 7 minutes. And this is assuming you're not going to Richmond, because now there's a chance you're going to wait (literally) twice as long. With that said, the YVR leg is awesome. Vancouver is now the only Canadian city to have a direct rapid transit link to the downtown core. I'm sure many of the cabbies out there aren't too happy about this. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The booking process is easy, the manager Howie is responsive and easy to work with. The drivers are always on time and courteous. On our most recent trip, there was a terrible accident on highway 99 which delayed us 7 hrs! We had multiple families traveling on together in a large van, half children under the age of 8. The kids were going stir crazy and so were the parents. The person that was not frazzled at all was our driver Johan. He was with us the whole way, taking us to dinner in Squamish, driving us around town looking for a place to entertain the kids and wait for the roads to reopen. We ended up having to hang out at a Walmart for several hours. By the time we got to Whistler was about midnight, on a 5p planned arrival. Johan never stopped being courteous, kind, and friendly. I can't imagine how tired and frustrating the ordeal must have been for him, yet he never let it showed and it made the journey so much more pleasant despite the circumstances. We've never had a bad experience with Excel.
