With little variance, the community shuttle buses running along Davie St have been consistently 10-25 minutes late (on a supposedly 10 minute rotation) and come back to back with up to 3 shuttles on a row. Hardly worth one star. Most of the drivers dont use air brakes properly and couldnt keep a steady throttle to save their lives. Always late outside of peak hours, oblivious to the running mate trying to catch it. Some of them see you running but they'll leave anyway. Ok I think I will be more than fair in saying translink, is for the the most part, reliable. The skytrain comes quite often, and the buses come really frequently during peak times, and every 15mins until about 9pm when they come every 30mins. And if you happen to be in a small neighbourhood its every 30 as well. I have had more than my fair share of run ins with this service, once the entire skytrain system shut down and I was one of the lucky ones that were stuck at a station, others were stuck in the middle of the tracks for over an hour. Not a fun time. The buses are early or late, and rarely on time, and there are times when they just dont show up. The skytrain itself runs fairly smoothly, and not literally because its definitely a bumpy ride closer to main and stadium. The transit people are becoming seen more frequently as security and such, and more than once I have seen police patrolling the areas. Security is still questionable because you are supposed to be able to push the yellow strip and someone will be there within minutes, this isnt true I have witnessed it, it took a long time, I think 4 stops? It was a while ago. And if you ever have to listen to an announcement, I hope you are good at understanding garbled crackly voices, because the speaker system is terrible. The rates, dont get me started, they are horrendous. They have a day pass, tickets(1,2,3 zone or consession-for students in highschool and under or the elderly, this gets you all zones.), or monthly pass(same as tickets) to buy from the store or you can buy other types of passes from schools or discounted passes from work. To buy a one zone monthly is 72 bucks, and that gets you around any one zone. You can only buy it the last week of the previous month or the first....ill say 2 weeks of the month you want it for. Tickets for one zone are 19 bucks for 10, and are good for any one zone as well, if you need to travel a second zone you can buy an add fare for 1.25 or use another ticket if you dont have cash, it sucks but it works. These get used up really fast so if you travel a lot the monthly is worth it for sure. The upside is, they dont expire so until you punch one in the machine, you can keep the same tickets for a year, then once validated, its good for 90 mins. The day pass is I think 9 bucks and you can go wherever you want for the one day. I really wish they had a week pass option, it would be a really good deal for those who are visiting, or are out for a special event such as the olympics??? If you are visiting or, like me need to know how to get somewhere off your normal route, the website is actually really good. They offer bus schedules as well as a trip planner where you can enter point a and point b and it will tell you all the places inbetween. I usually chill out, and listen to the radio on my way to work but if you happen to be the driver, I dont even bother because you always are very conciderate, if someone is running for the bus you will wait for them, you say hello, good morning, make witty comments, and give me the news and weather forecast for the day, week, and weekend(depending on what day it is) completely makes my morning! Getting you from A to B is usually hit using skytrain but at times there can be excessive delays using the 20 route. Why I rated this review 2 stars was the 2 sour encounters that I had with bus drivers in the past that I berated and belittled and belitted me. The first time, I didn't have the right addfare. The second time, while I was showing my buspass he spotted an old faresaver in my wallet and confiscated it. I wasn't even trying to show it. I can't wait for automated buses. read more

I use the compass card every day to commute to work by Skytrain and the B line bus from Burnaby to Vancouver. The reason I am rating it low is because when I have had issues with my card the response I get from calling the phone number on the back of the card has been soooooooooo frustrating. The latest issue I had on April 5/18 was I tried to load ten dollars on my compass card by putting a 5 dollar bill and 2 toonies and a loonie in the machine at the Patterson station to go to work. The machine took my money and asked me to put 5 dollars more in the machine. I pressed the cancel button because I realized it was not registering the coins I put in. The machine gave me back the 5 dollar bill but the coins didn't come back, I am out 5 dollars NOW!!! I didn't have my debit card on me and not enough money to add more to my card and I needed to get to work. The person that answered my call at the compass pass phone line did not understand me after explaining numerous times that I DID NOT get my money back. I know it's only 5 dollars but it's my 5 dollars and it put me in a predicament to now get home after work. The woman said someone from Translink who investigate and call me. Are you kidding me!!!! If I didn't pay to ride translink I would be penalized but your machine messed up and I now have to kiss my hard earned money goodbye and scramble to find a way home Thanks money gougers, still no phone call from translink.... The new "COMPASS" fare system imo will be ripping off a lot of passengers, if my experience is typical. I have a 2-zone pass plus $20 in extra money (just in case I need to go 3-zones) but this morning, my Compass card said I was out of credits! Apparently the Compass card system did not properly detect my exiting and therefore charged me an extra $1 for some rides. I never knew about that, and I had tapped out every time, as well. The Compass card fare system is also MORE EXPENSIVE to taxpayers because an attendant is now needed at every check-in point at stations, which was not needed before. The SOLUTION is to use a "fare free", "no collection" method as used in many cities. Why? Because the cost-of-collection is MORE than the fare-cheating that would have gone on. Wiser cities have learned that a "fare collection system" isn't worth the trouble and cost. Let me repeat: I GOT RIPPED OFF BY THE COMPASS FARE SYSTEM. read more

So coming off a 10 hour flight, I take the skytrain from YVR to my stop. I don't live in Vancouver but I had a Compass card from a previous trip out, so I decided to just use that to load a Day Pass onto it. The machine allows me to tap the card to load my money onto it and further allows me to get through the gate onto the skytrain. When I arrive at my stop, I take my Compass card to get out of the gate and it denies me. To make a long story short - 40 minutes later I've had the runaround on the Compass/TransLink phone system, I'm still standing in the station with my luggage, and I'm out over $30 for ONE day pass. Basically my card was "inactive" because god knows why, and when I rebutted that it couldn't be inactive because it just let me use it and put money onto it, the customer service lady informed me that yes, in fact, you can still put money on an inactive card even though you'd have no idea that it wouldn't work. Great system, TransLink. Oh and to make it better, they don't do refunds so I had to buy a whole new compass card and a new day pass. read more

I am a long time transit user and unfortunately have seen it decline. The 6 davie service is worse with the rerouting er of the c 23, no longer provides downtown service, The buss are constantly either. very late or bunched together ie 3 in a row and often one being empty And major crowding often standing room only during non peak hours. I am a world traveler and have have used municipal transit systems in many major cities. Trans-link has all their bases covered with bus stops within a few steps from your threshold and everything converges at the waterfront station. Very Clever. But what I like most of all are the friendly drivers. On the other hand, San Francisco comes in dead last for friendly drivers. Good job Trans-link! read more

So if you don't buy a monthly bus pass, which the price was put up for again recently, then you get charged extra fees for using a compass card or credit card. If you are taking the train from YVR airport don't bother, with the fee price plus a fee of 5 dollars each you are better off getting a taxi. read more

I'm in 8 Fraser right now I'm a regular commuter last 19 years. Majority of buses reach on time or may be little bit late. With 8 Fraser I never have good experience. I need this bus to hop as it drops next to 49th Fraser my work place. Not the first time but every time I have to wait 14-20 mins at terminal avenue. Today I wanted to get early to work I literally wasted all together 55 mins for the bus service. I could have used car but to same gas and pollution I consider bus service. West Vancouver buses are the worst. They're constantly not on time forcing me to wait even longer. They just seem to not really care at all. Either add more buses or update your bus schedule times. Recently I bought a 3 zone monthly pass($201)and was double charged. Called my bank and they said since vendors can refund the money to call them. Called and they agreed that they had double charged me but wouldn't refund me. They would give me my next month or give me a cheque in 4 weeks. I recently found out that they can refund via the debit system but they choose not to. They steal your money and keep it for a month to gain the interest and than give you back your money. You may not think it's much but doing that 100 times and you have 20K...keep doing it abd you have a hell of a lot more. I ended up having to go back to my bank and putting in a greivance against them. I may have to wait 15 days for the bank but it's still quicker than waiting for the Translink @$$es. read more

Visited greater Vancouver area for the first time a couple weeks ago and relied only on public transport and overall had a great experience. Seabus was clean and efficient, SkyTrain was easy to use (I only used the Canada line) and bus drivers drove really fast and only stopped when requested. I quickly learned how quickly SkyTrain doors shut when the little chime sounds (basically don't enter if you hear the chime!) and to have my Compass card handy at all times because you frequently have to tap on and off even to get out of the transit center. I saw only a couple homeless/musicians on the Canada line the entire time I rode it which fascinated me. Annoyances were a rogue community bus driver from Phibbs Station in North Van that didn't know where he was going (but a complaint a fellow passenger submitted online was responded to by an in-person Translink employee visit within minutes!) and the first Seabus not leaving at 8:02 am on a Sunday like the Translink website said it would (and the countdown at Lonsdale Quay just stayed showing a next departure of 30 minutes and never changed, so I just grabbed a taxi to get to the airport on time). I also had an express bus from downtown that passed us up once because it was too full (reading online, this is apparently a common problem on popular routes). The express bus I took from the Horseshoe Bay station was this double length one with a pivot circle in the middle, and I got to be the unfortunate person standing on it which freaked me out because it turns as the bus turns! It took me a while to figure out what flashing green traffic lights mean in Vancouver, and apparently it's completely different than eastern Canada. read more
