    Seabus

Just minutes away from downtown Vancouver. Leave the stress of driving behind as it just takes over 10 minutes to arrive at Lonsdale Quay. They have a new schedule which runs more frequently. The seabus is part of Vancouver's transit system. From the Quay, there are connecting buses to take you to other attractions on the Shore like Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge. You can bring bikes onboard. Tip: if it's your first time, sit at the front to get a picturesque view!

Follow the signs down the longggggggg ramp.

The downtown side of the SeaBus is a little different than the one on the North Van side. While it serves its purpose (getting you onto the SeaBus efficiently) it's a bit of a hoof to get there as you need to transverse the large station, head down an escalator, and across a LONG skybridge to get you across the train tracks before you finally get to the water. I was exhausted by the time I finally got to the waiting area for the actual S-Bus! I don't know how someone with limited mobility would do it very easily as there don't appear to be other options for getting there. The skybridge itself is also (inexplicably) without ventilation or air conditioning so it was STIFLING in there, even on a reasonably moderate spring day. Still, the discomfort was short-lived and soon I was on the S-Bus and on my way to fun at Lonsdale Quay. It was even hotter on my return trip but I noticed some people were using an unmarked side door to escape the greenhouse-like heat. I made a mental note to use this option next time!

SeaBus is a high frequency public passenger only ferry service that runs between Vancouver's Waterfront Station and North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay. It is owned by Translink meaning that you don't need to buy a special ticket for this ferry service. It is the same one that you buy to take the bus and SkyTrain around the Vancouver area. Since North Vancouver is in a different zone than Vancouver, you will need to pay the two zone fare on weekdays before 6:30 pm which is $4. On weekdays after 6:30 pm and on weekends, all zones are the price of the one zone fare which is $2.75. You can save money by buying FareSaver tickets or skip paying the zone fares by buying a Day Pass. The ferry runs every 15 minutes during the day and every half hour in the evening. The duration of the ferry crossing is short as it is only 12 minutes and the operation of this service is very clockwork. Upon entering the ferry terminal, you will see a timer counting down the time until the next ferry sailing. On clear days, this is an inexpensive nice boat ride to take over the Burrard Inlet as you can see the beautiful skyline of downtown Vancouver and parts further eastward to and from Waterfront Station. I have taken this ferry service a few times over the years, though it really was mostly to just take the boat ride. Next to Lonsdale Quay is the Lonsdale Quay Market which is like a smaller version of Granville Island Market, but far less interesting. There is also a bus terminal outside the ferry terminal for passengers to connect to and from North Shore bus routes. If you need to get to the North Shore from downtown Vancouver or just want to take a short pleasure ride across the water, those would be the reasons to take SeaBus.

"Best ocean view + comfy chairs + please FIX the escalators" (: best ocean view on the boat which offers you a moment of peace (most of the time) *cue music* I'm on a boat. I'm on a boat. I'm on a ____ boat. (: comfy chairs and thoughtful facilities for people with disabilities. (: the terminal offers vending machines and washrooms for you to kill time in your wait.. 15 minute wait is reasonable. ): escalators have maintenance all the time (not entirely certain about their intention) but it is annoying to many pedestrians.. especially the ones in hurry. Please. Fix. It. (: 3 stars!

This review is for 01/01/2012. After arriving at Waterfront Station, I was under the impression we were taking a bus, but after buying my $9 Day Pass, I saw escalators for the trains....BUT... we were not walking to the train. We were crossing a bridge and I did not see any trains. I just kept seeing water and I was walking towards it. I asked my friend, "Where are we going?" He said, "We are going to take the SeaBus." I was not aware my $9 Day Pass did not just give me access to all the bus and train zones, but it would give me access to the water transport. I was surprised...Well, then I live in Los Angeles, where I am stuck in traffic hours because there was one accident. Once you enter the terminal, you'll be waiting on the entrance side for the boat. I believe the boat can hold up to 400 people. There are safety videos in case something does happen to the vessel. With the weather being 29 degrees, I am not jumping into the water. I am not sure how much profit the boat makes, but it sure does give a lot of scenic views of Vancouver Harbor. The boat doesn't have to turn when it exits the dock. I am not sure what to call it, but it does save time like it was unparalleled parking. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the boat to cross from one side to the other. Of course, if there is shipping traffic, then the boat slows down. The boat ride was awesome, but maybe I would like to have one boat where you can be outside, but I am sure it would cause safety issues. Overall, it was coolest thing for $9. Your day pass would cover the ride over and over and you'd probably make a profit out of it. How does TransLink make profit? Wouldn't it be profitable to make a train than to use SeaBus? I guess TransLink really cares about their Vancouver and goes all out. Wowsers....I'll be back soon and explore Vancouver in better depth. Yelp is My Review, My Story, and My Life. Its time to share it.

It's cool. It's square shape is goofy-looking. She vibrates excessively during parking. You get to pass by big ship tankers at sea. Nice views around. I've ridden one older one and one newer (blue mesh seats?) one.

I take this Seabus to head to Grouse. I like the fact that it has a time of when the Seabus is coming. At least I know not to run like crazy when its not coming any time soon. it takes less than 15 mins to cross. The Seabus is very clean. Floor is carpeted. There is always enough seats for everyone on the weekend.

As part of our day pass, we hopped on the Seabus from the Waterfront to North Vancouver and back. The views are nice if you are in front or in back of the ferry. It's a smooth relaxing ride. That said, the 30 minute wait (on Sunday) was a killer...walk away and you lose your spot in line. In addition, I had two gay guys literally breathe down my neck (more like blowing on my neck...gross) and a Filipino family squeeze their way to the front 5 minutes before the gates opened. And when the gate opened all hell broke loose!

Vancouverites love to complain about the transit system - with the exception of the SeaBus. When I lived in North Vancouver and worked downtown, I took this little ferry almost every day. It's a peaceful 15-minute ride from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay. I have found that even those who wouldn't step on a bus unless it was about to hit them will cheerfully take the SeaBus. When visitors are in town, it's the one mode of public transport one can confidently recommend - the SeaBus is rarely late (although the clocks announcing minutes to departure can be wonky, so if you see people streaming out when you arrive, run!) and it's scenic even in crap weather. Having said all that, the entrances and exits to the Seabus terminals are dismal. Especially when getting off, I feel like I'm in a crowded cattle chute. It's always a relief to emerge into the station, whether it's the dark gloomy bus loop at the Quay, or the soaring hall of Waterfront Station.

A peaceful ride across the Burrard Inlet. On a clear night when the City is lit up, it is a 15 minute local cruise.

We bought our tickets at the Capital City Station on Douglas Street in Victoria, and Sandy was absolutely wonderful, friendly, helpful, and patient. She even got us seats for October 13, 2025, which was Thanksgiving. Every company needs a Sandy, she deserves 5 stars for her service. Once we boarded the bus, things went downhill. Our driver, James wasn't very approachable. His responses were short, and he came across as a bit grouchy. It was a holiday, so we understand, but as first-time passengers, we found his instructions unclear and he seems to not welcome questions. When the ferry docked at Tsawwassen, we didn't hear it was time to reboard the bus to continue to downtown Vancouver. We missed the announcement and ended up being left behind, but our checked bags and personal items were still in the bus to Vancouver. Thankfully, the staff at Tsawwassen terminal were great. They guided us, called ahead to Pacific Station BC Ferries, and made sure we could retrieve our bags. When we finally reunited with the bus, James didn't seem particularly concerned or empathetic, which made an already stressful situation feel worse. We blame ourselves for missing the bus. But for future improvements, clearer announcements and louder overhead speakers would help first-time travelers. Even a quick name call for missing passengers would go a long way.
