Terminus of the Canada and Expo lines, as well as the S terminal for SeaBus, and W terminus for the West Coast Express. The outside of the station is pretty cool and historic. Pretty sure it used to be a train station way back. The Canada and Expo lines can be traversed here, but involves walking through a long tunnel. Being underground, the station also has multiple exit scattered throughout the vicinity which is pretty useful. Yelp Review 2023 #248: The biggest and nicest SkyTrain station is Waterfront. It's been here since the 1910's. This is the station you go to if you're staying at hotels between the Convention Center and Gastown. It has many exits so make you read the signs for your exit, otherwise, you'll be doing a lot more walking and wandering than you should. You can catch the SkyTrain (Canada Line or Expo Line), West Coast Express, and SeaBus from this terminus. Right outside the station, you'll find plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. You'll find fast food inside the station. It tends to get busy and crowded. You can't get lost here. There are signs every few feet to lead you to where you need to be. There are escalators, elevators and ramps. Now, the downside...there's no reliable wifi. You'll see wifi connections that make you think it's going to work after getting your email address and then it doesn't connect. read more

Waterfront station is like Vancouver's Grand Central Station. It's got an Old World Charm to it. If you take a second to appreciate the details of the architecture and décor it reminds me of when there was only Black and White t.v and you can get a handful of candy for a nickel. One terminus for the Canada Line, the SkyTrain light rail that extends from downtown Vancouver south to two branches - one at Richmond/Brighouse and the other at the Vancouver airport. The Expo line (which I did not use during my time in Vancouver) also ends here and continues out to Burnaby. I found the signage to be clear and easy to follow. The station is underground with a lift, stairs and escalator between street level and the ticketing concourse and the train platforms. It is an island platform with the trains on the outside. Very little seating here, which seems to be the usual for Vancouver's train system. There are overheard boards noting the departure of the next train and the destination (Airport or Richmond). There's also an overheard announcement. It's clear that they get quite a bit of traffic through here as there are barriers set up to direct people to the ticket vending machines and others to help folks bypass that crowd if they already have tickets or passes. I travel using an electric wheelchair. My trips from YVR through Waterfront Station to catch my cruise ship and then a week later reversing the process were nothing less than great. Signage, accessible doors, well placed elevators and extremely nice and helpful employees made the whole experience stress-free. Whoever designed the flow pattern should be commended. Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver is the terminus SkyTrain station of both the Expo Line and Canada Line, and according to Translink, it's the busiest station, based on number of boardings. You can also connect to the SeaBus and the West Coast Express here. There are three entrances to Waterfront Station: the main entrance on Cordova Street, an entrance on Howe Street that connects to to Expo Line (not wheelchair accessible), and an entrance on Granville Street that connects to the Canada Line. There is also a tunnel under the Sinclair Centre which is an alternative to the Howe Street entrance. The Cordova Street entrance leads into a large, fancy looking brick building that was built in 1914 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Inside there are a few mediocre eateries (the better ones are Starbucks and Rogue, which has a decent happy hour), a bike rental kiosk that recently replaced a sad looking cell phone accessory kiosk, and ticket machines strategically placed for maximum inconvenience (during afternoon rush hour, it's difficult to get past all the tourists crowding around the the machines, trying to figure out how many zones it is to take the SeaBus). The station is a major transit hub and fairly large (at least for Vancouver -- people from New York will laugh), but there are no bathrooms (although there are bathrooms at the SeaBus terminal), and there is a lack of benches, despite there being plenty of room. (In fact, I noticed some of the benches, in which there were few to begin with, were removed sometime during the past year.) Despite these inconveniences, I'm giving Waterfront Station three stars, because it's better than most of the other SkyTrain stations, and when using the tunnel under Sinclair Centre, it's fairly easy to get in and out. Waterfront Station is the main transportation terminal in downtown Vancouver. It is also the only station in which all lines of SkyTrain stop. This is the station you will want to change to get to the Canada, Expo and Millennium Lines. The public ferry service, SeaBus also runs out of this station. Aside from driving your car over, this is the best way to get over to North Vancouver. The entrance to the ferry is conveniently located just above the platforms for the Expo and Millennium Lines making it a short walk away. And if you need to get to Gastown, the Waterfront Station is very close to this district. Rather than dealing with the confusion of buses and where they go, this would be the easiest way to get to this area. If you need a bite, there are a bunch of eateries inside the station. But I have never found any reason to since I just use this station as a transfer point mostly. I like Waterfront Station as it is reasonably compact for an interchange station. You don't have to walk too far to get where you need to go here. read more

I admit I'm not too savvy when it comes to public transportation, but the people here made it easy for me to navigate and were extremely helpful. If you happen to be traveling from abroad and want to spend the day in Vancouver but not haul luggage around, there is a place to check in for only $5 per luggage! The employee here explained to us which passes we needed to get in order to reach our desired destination. For example, to get a bus pass to Granville Island he recommended to buy 1-way pass and buy another 1-way pass in advance because if we bought one on the bus it is non-transferable. With the 2nd 1-way pass, we were able to use that on the train to the airport! That saved us money and time without having to buy another pass for the train. Only bummer is there is no public restroom here. read more

Nice station with a beautiful arquiteture. Here you can take sky train, Canada line ( Richmond and Airport) or sea bus to North shore. So, you have options to go every where in Vancouver.. and if you are hungry, you have some options to eat like A&W and Subway. If you want a coffee, Starbucks will be a good option. Or if you want a meal, you will have a Rogue as option. But I kind didn't like that. So... you will still have options.. This is a nice place, you can go every where that you want and if you are feeling lost, just ask information to the people who works at this station. This skytrain has many different exits and entrances. As well, the skytrain is connected to the waterfront center which has stores and restaurants at that mall. As well if you exit from the main lobby, there is the restaurant Rogue. This is also a terminal station to transfer to seabus or the West Coast express train, or to the Canada Line. This review is for 01/01/2012. After a long or short morning, depending on how I celebrated New Year's Eve, my buddy became my tour guide and wanted to show me Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver. Originally, I thought we were taking the bus to get over bay, but instead he took me to Downtown Vancouver's Union Station, the Waterfront Station. The Waterfront Station looks like it was more of a library or a government building than it does a hub for transit. There are restaurants in the main lobby (A&W, Starbucks) and a barbershop. There is an information desk if you are trying to get to the airport or just want to explore the city. Waterfront Station is home to Expo, Millenium, West Coast Express, and the Canada Line. Am I missing something? Oh yeah, its home to the infamous SeaBus. Whether you are riding the train, bus, or SeaBus, one thing guaranteed, your vehicle will arrive on time, probably on the second. I will review the SeaBus in another review, but Waterfront Station has displays throughout the terminal of when the boat will arrive. Just like many other transit authorities, there is a security presence. Don't forget to purchase your tickets before you enter the Paid Fare Zone. The $9 Day Pass is a steal. It gives you access to all zones and transit for the day. Just make sure your pass doesn't get bent because it makes the card unreadable. Overall, Waterfront Station is like an airport. There is a bridge to the dock for the SeaBus, escalators leading underground for the trains, and restaurants in the lobby while you wait for where in Vancouver you want to go. The transit system in Vancouver is way ahead of the United States. By the time, the U.S. catches up, Vancouver is already transporting people like in Star Trek. Nice little place to pick up a snack, beverage, as well as get on the Seabus or other modes of transportation. It has an ATM in order to make it easy to obtain some Canadian coin for purchases that need cash. We mostly relied on our Visa cards but having some cash on hand is always good. I noticed a cell phone vendor in the lobby as well as magazines, etc., that could be purchased. Subway, Starbucks and the like are nearby. When I use to work downtown I would get off at waterfront station, its busy with west coast express, sea bus, and sky train all in one location. Main entrance has a Starbucks, a small cafe and a little kios for your news paper, gum, snacks and so. This station has many exits/entrance can get confusing. This is the Station that you will do most of your transfers. Its big, but not too big. Unlike other train systems, this one does not require you to swipe a card to get to your platform. However, you must provide proof of your ticket purchase if you do get inspected. The benefit is simply to be able to swiftly walk in and out. For the most part, the trains and stations are really clean with helpful signs and staff members. Unlike New York, there are no street performers anywhere, which I guess is a good thing as we sometimes want to travel in peace. Ticket pricing depends on the stop you are at in some cases. If you purchase right at the Airport, it will be higher, but I recommend buying them cheap at a 7-11 (at least in the case of the airport). Happy travelling. read more

(North side W Cordova & Seymour) 2.5 stars. Could easily be 5 if there was WASHROOMS. Read the signs. Be patient. Try to look for someone 'official' if you need help. Do not ask a store owner. Sometimes a passer by can be helpful, but not always. The station is impressive with its high ceilings and beautiful facade. Being a transit hub I do not understand how there is not ANY restrooms!!! MAJOR first world problem. Security actually suggested I go across th street to Tim Hortons. Pfft... i just bluffed my way into the restaurant located in the station and used theirs. I am sure enough money exchanges hands in a day at this station, why not use some of the rent money to provide restrooms for the thousands of people that use this station everyday. After arrival @ YVR....for a discounted fare ticket booklet! Go to the bottom level in the domestic terminal. The 7-11 there sells $21 discounted ticket train booklets. When you use a ticket it will cost you by number of zones. Richmond is only 1 zone so only 1 ticket to validate at the station machine. Downtown will be 2 zones or 2 ticket validations. With the booklet you will still have many tickets for future use. If you go directly to the YVR airport station to purchase individual tickets from the station machine your per ticket cost will be much higher. read more

Canada Line obviously being the newer and better one, but still, with today's technology, as train approaches a stop, no indicators to tell u which side to get off. Fantastic means of transportation! Our favorite stations: 1. Water Front: You have to go see the 4-D "Fly over Canada" at Canada Place, although be careful if you are prone to motion sickness; 2. Yaletown Roundhouse: lots of restaurants and bars on Hamilton, Mainland, Davie, and Pacific; 3. Vancouver City Center: Try the Salmon sandwich, "Salmich", from the Kaboom food truck that is normally located at Georgia and Granville, right next to the Canada Line SkyTrain exit); 4. Metro Town: Metro Town is a huge shopping mall, and the Chinese mall "Crystal Mall" with a pretty good food court is 5 minutes walking from the station; 5. International Village: Right next to the Chinese supermarket T&T where you can get the cheapest fresh produce in town; 6. Bridgeport: Where the RIchmond Nightmarket is. Couple of tips: 1. Get 10 tickets from almost all drugstores for a cheaper fare; 2. Your ticket is valid to bus transfers; 2. Remember that "after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day Saturday, Sunday and Holidays, discount fares apply and purchasing a one-zone ticket will allow you to travel through all zones." read more

The central hub of it all, connecting the Skytain with the Canada Line, and the Seabus. Located inside a nice large building, it's like a miniature sized Grand Central station. There's a Starbucks, a Jugo Juice, a newstand, and another coffee shop for you to snack and take a break on. Minimal seating is inside the station, in the foyer area. For those rainy days and when you're meeting a fried, it's a good place to hide out. Great location, as it is right in Gastown, and close to the Vancouver Convention Center. read more

No public washroom, WHAT???? So I head to Starbucks before my train ride, order my coffee and ask about the washrooms, none?!!!! What? This place could use a clean up, great architecture however it could do a better job of occupying the homeless, and sketched out dudes asking for spare change. Disappointing. read more

This station is really nice and pretty straightforward for someone who isn't from here. I'm giving this place a 4 star because there are no bathrooms!! Unless I missed them, I looked everywhere and gave up before I missed my train! I took the West Coast Express out to Pitt Meadows and yes there are bathrooms on board, but not everyone can pee in a moving vehicle! Although when I looked confused looking at this ticket machine, this nice woman (employee) came up to me and helped me out. read more

It works. Not as spectacular as Grand Central in New York, but whatever. To all the reviewers who complain about the lack of washrooms. There used to be washrooms here about twenty years ago. Unfortunately, the washrooms became a hot spot of robbery, theft, assaults, drug-dealing, and druggies shooting up. It just wasn't safe for tourists and the public. The property management couldn't justify posting security guards outside the washrooms during all hours of business. The City of Vancouver also refused to pay for public washrooms in the area. read more

It is quite the majestic wonder of a transit station. None like any other, I would say! At first sight, this place reminds you of an old fashioned train station. On the inside, well, it will still remind you of an old fashioned train station! The best thing about this place is really that you can do all sorts of public transit transfers! The SkyTrain, SeaBus, HeliJet and regular buses all connect to this station! There are also nice little snack and coffee shops in the central area, along with a restaurant/lounge. An important thing to note about this particular station is that it is one of Downtown Vancouver's many historical landmarks. Locals can tell you how glad they are that this place had been upkept so nicely since it was built in 1914. I highly recommend that tourists make a trip down to Waterfront Station just to see what it is really like. It may not be much to some people, but at least you can say that you've been there and done that! read more

Waterfront is such a busy terminus for the city, connecting downtown bus traffic to two sky train lines, a sea bus, and a train guaranteeing that you can get just about anywhere in the Lower Mainland on public transit. Buskers play the seabus overpass in the summer, adding music to the amazing glassy sights of the inlet and railroad. The antique foyer is full of comfortable benches and small retail, which allow you to wait for company with ease and comforts. This station is also quite a bit larger than it seems, with the possibility to travel entirely underground through to the Sinclaire center, waterfront center, several hotels, and exits as far north as Pender. Dont believe me? Try it! And be thankful such a large maze exists for the sake of pedestrians. read more

It is one of the centres where it ends and begins. For instance, this is the station that is the terminus station for the Expo Line and also the Millenium Line. This station is the beginning of a vacation as you can travel to the airport. It is also the beginning of a trip to explore Downtown Vancouver and also Gastown. This is the stop if you need to get a quick bite to eat with the local fare. Also this is the stop if you want to go to Canada Place and also the Vancouver Convention Center. There is a nice pit stop with free Shaw Wi-Fi internet for all Shaw Customers. Inside the place there is Rogue Wetbar if you like a classy type of restaurant with good food and fun times. Starbucks and Jugo Juice is there for those needing a quick energy boost. Otherwises, this is one of the places where there is alot of people from local to international. read more

As far as transit centers go, this is by far the best one I've ever visited. Clean, attractive, and comfortable, with a few restaurants and coffee stands to boot. If you're from outside Canada, I suggest taking advantage of the ATMs which don't have a terribly high fee and are a quick way to get some Canadian currency. The weekend we were in Vancouver, this was a nice place to stop and take a break. Also, we purchased an all-day transit pass which was a great way to get around and see the city very cheaply. From here you can take the SkyTrain, SeaBus or regular land buses. While we were taking a break on one of the benches here, we had a "You know you're in Vancouver" moment. Outside the front door, busking with a guitar and microphone, was a young lady with a beautiful voice singing mellow folksy original-sounding songs...a far cry from the loud jazz players, bucket drummers, or guitar balladeers you get in most cities. Waterfront Station is Vancouver's Grand Central. At this transportation hub Skytrain meets Seabus meets West Coast Express meets B-line bus meets pedestrian. Oh and there's also a helipad, float plane terminal, and nearby cruise ship dock. If you're going somewhere in Vancouver, this is the spot to begin your journey. The building is a beautiful brick reincarnation of a CPR station with fat, sleek white columns out front. It's one of my favorite places in Vancouver that I so readily forget all about. The only downfall is that it's missing a lovely sitting area where you could enjoy a coffee amidst the bustle, take time-elapsed photos, or stage a public freeze. read more

Built for the Expo 86 World's Fair, it has since become the world's longest automated light rapid transit system. The system uses the same family of linear induction motor-driven trains as the Scarborough RT line in Toronto, the Putra LRT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the JFK AirTrain in New York. During my practical training in Vancouver I took the sky train every day from Surrey downtown to Vancouver and back home. I liked it very much. Also because on the sky train people became equal. So I sat side by side to people no matter which social background they have. Once it happened that a homeless man sat beside a rich looking woman: they talked totally normal to each other. Waterfront station is beautiful. Well at least to me it is. It's the central hub of the transportation system and it seems to flow so nicely! You can catch the Canada Line, Millennium Line, Expo Line, West Coast Express, Seabus and may buses at this location. Inside the station there are a few places to sit, some places to eat, drink coffee or shop while you wait for people. It's also phenomenal for people watching. The hustle and bustle can just calm you! I always have a feeling of history and beauty when I come here. read more

It is very difficult to find complaints about waterfront station. It is clean, well organized and a central hub for transit within and to places outside downtown Vancouver. Set inside a beautiful, large and old building you can take the two skytrains and there is a long walkway down to the seabus terminal to N. Van. It also has a couple nice restaurants and the requisite coffee shops and convenience stores. read more

A beautiful station with a spacious interior. Connects most of the transit lines in the city, and with the exception of the long but necessary walkway leading to the seabus, everything is a closely connected as one could hope for. Missed your evening Seabus and have thirty minutes to kill? There's Rogue Wetbar, which isn't a great place to eat but has a pretty good selection of drinks. read more

Good station with nice interior. Usually a few securities around since it's a bigger station. You can transfer to the Millennium Line at Lougheed station or Commercial broadway with the Expo Line from Waterfront Station. You can also go to YVR (airport) and some other places like Yaletown if you take the Canada Line. There's some snacks or restaurants in the station too, but not washroom unless it's in the Rouge restaurant. read more
