Yorkshire pudding with whipped chicken liver
    Cynthia L.

There's a real full-sized cow, with a rooster on its back, suspended above the dining room. If this is what you're looking for in a dining experience, then this Hix restaurant will deliver for you. Don't worry; the cow and rooster aren't alive. It's a Damien Hirst piece, a fitting ode to this steak and chicken restaurant. It seems morbid, but it's really awesome (kind of like their chicken presentation.) This is one of three memorable things about this restaurant that will stick with me. Another being the chicken itself. I love Yorkshire pudding and ordered theirs served with the whipped chicken livers. When it arrived, it looked really really dark for Yorkshire pudding - and was impressively shaped like a hatbox. Once I broke it open, it was fine -- just crisper than I'm used to. To accompany the chicken, we had the mushrooms and the creamed spinach. My guy loved the spinach but I found both too salty for me. Memorable thing #2 arrived with the sides: the chicken. It's served whole and upside down on a spit, its little feet still intact and looking DELICIOUS. The server cuts off the feet and I volunteer my plate up. Great flavoring (salty) and crispy! I had to tap out early on the rest of chicken and french fries due to the salt but what I ate was good. Then comes memorable thing #3. The server brings out a steak to carve at the table next to us. He's slicing the steak and whoopsie daisy! the steak piece falls on the floor. Not missing a beat, the floor manager arrives and calmly says, "Another steak will be brought out to you shortly. Medium-rare, right?" It was pretty classy how it was handled; no panic, no fingerpointing at the server -- so great. The pair at the table are not bothered in the slightest. A second steak arrives and though they fight the good fight, soon the gentleman said to us, "We are stuffed! Would you like this piece of steak?" He hands my husband a huge chunk of steak, which my husband tries to politely decline, but I can see his mouth watering. The man insists and we end up talking with them throughout the meal. A common theme in London, which I sorely miss already.

You guys is that REALLY a real cow and chicken in the middle of the restaurant? Like, for real? So when you walk in the entire place is impressive. It's a massive modernized farm looking room with a huge giant aquarium looking thing with a cow and chicken. BUT IS IT REAL? I don't know. Probably. Whatever. So, we came here with friends because they wanted to and yes we're vegetarian so sadly I can only speak for the vegetarian food, but HEY! We were pretty impressed that they offered another menu for us. But you have to ask for it. The butternut squash and sweet potato curry is very good with warm basmati rice and fried onions. Very good. The fries are also addicting and they give you multiple dipping options (but the portions are small so ask for extra!). Husband got the aubergine burger which was also nice. All of our friends go the steak which they said was good. The service was excellent and very understanding because we had one person in the party who kept disappearing so it was throwing off the ordering process. They were really accommodating though and awesome.

I finally feel qualified to give a review on Tramshed. After 3 dining experiences. First: stopped in for lunch a few months ago. Had the chicken over salad + a latte to cap it. All in all, a solid lunch, likely 3.5 stars. No complaints. Second: An all-out steak fest with a gal pal Wednesday night no reservations 7pm, seated at the bar, hot French waiter, lots of red wine, onion rings, garlic mushrooms, the works. 5 stars. Not only no complaints, ONLY RAVES. Raves from the rooftop. Raves that are heard by the chicken and the cow riding in the aquarium du fromeldahyde. Third: Dinner with another couple, Friday night 9pm. Busy. Round of cocktails (Twitter & Biste recommended), all seems to be going well, then service goes way south, way fast. Food is lovely. Garlic mushrooms make a command appearance, whole chicken, whole steak, leeks (great!) plus salad. Great place to share the larger portions. Plus desserts. The apple pie is the clear winner, the dark chocolate mousse even a bit too rich for my blood -- the blood of a chocolate loving madame. 3 stars. Don't ask for an Irish coffee. Ever. So I think we even out at 4 stars, solid. It's a great place. You'll likely need a reservation any time you wish to come, maybe except lunch (where they have a good set menu if you like). The service can be hit or miss. The food is basic in variety, but done well. There are many variations on chicken and steak. The sides are top notch, those garlic mushrooms make me sing in my sleep. It's a big, impressive space. I'll come back.

I had bookmarked this place so we decided to try it out with no reservation on a Saturday night. Friendly welcome at the desk and they managed to squeeze us in sitting at the bar straightaway. The place itself is pretty big, packed and a bit of a destination place to go to. I like the semi industrial interior , the old tramshed. There's a huge Damian Hirst cow in a tank (God, yet another one) with a chicken on top of the cow. Oh, I get it... 'Cock and Bull'. Cleary they paid a lot for this centrepiece since it's the focal point of the restaurant. I veer between quite liking it and finding it irritating. At least it fit with the whole macho concept. Anyhow the food... It's the simple menu concept: Chicken or steak with one or two variants and sides. I ordered the spring chicken and chips for one and my partner a beef salad (probably not the best choice). The chicken came, famously, with feet attached sticking up in the air, rotisserie cooked and was great. Juicy and tender and with some stuffing inside and a tasty jus / gravy underneath, perfect for dipping the chips into. I quickly realised that there was no other way than to pull the tender chicken apart by hand bit by bit and savour the tasty meat and suck out the juices. Didn't have time to sample the desserts - looked good though. A select range of decent chilled beers on offer as well as wine and an interesting looking cocktail list which I will try next time. Service was excellent and friendly and hit just the right pitch. Good value too.

It's not every day you can dine underneath a giant vat of formaldehyde. Of course inside this ginormous glass contraption is a chicken riding a cow. Bizarre, perhaps, though it actually makes a bit of sense when you see the menu...all there is on offer is chicken or steak. Even the appetizers (yorkshire pudding, cauliflower puree, and picked walnuts with broccoli) cannot be individually ordered, you must get all 3. Clearly, there is no quandary of excessive choice at Tramshed. I've been twice and the steak is good, not Hawksmoor good, but certainly among the finer pieces of meat you can get in Shoreditch. The steak was properly cooked (I asked for medium rare and got medium rare) and expertly sliced in front of you, though a bit fattier than I would have liked. Next time I will have to try the chicken, I hear great things---though it is off-putting that the legs are kept intact, a bit gross if you ask me. There is much to like at Tramshed apart from the chicken riding the cow (and the cool rear-wall cartoon painting of a chicken and cow as bffs)...service is friendly, the drinks are strong, and the food is rather tasty. The dining room is a massive cavernous space and can get quite bright (on those rare sunny london day)...it's a venue that's perfect for a large group of your carnivore friends as only chicken and steak are on offer.

    Dipping sauces for chicken

A very cool and weird place. We sat at the bar and had the chicken and steak. It seemed like chicken was the thing to get as everyone was ordering it and it was quite good. They give you plenty of dipping sauces for it as well which was nice. Great presentation of food and a unique place to stop and eat if you are in London.

Who knew a lively restaurant like Tramshed existed on such a quiet street. A girlfriend and I stopped in on a Friday night and I was immediately amazed at the scene. It's a huge wide-open space, like a warehouse, and was very, very busy. We didn't have reservations, but they had room at the bar so we ended up sitting there. I ordered the Steak salad, which was fantastic. I really wanted to try some other things on the menu but I just couldn't manage it. Service was wonderful, and all the people behind the bar are quite friendly. The atmosphere is great, in fact, I think it would be a great place to host a birthday party!

    Excellent Portuguese red wine!
    Darren S.

Having come here for dinner on an occasion for a work meeting, I really enjoyed the experience having not known what to expect! We firstly had some lovely Portuguese red wine which was lovely and smooth and very drinkable! In regards to the food, the 4 of us had 2 large steaks between us, which when described to us I thought "We probably need one each really"...however was I sooo wrong :) They were huge and we just about got through them both between us, with sides on top too. I enjoyed it immensely and the artwork and large cow hovering above just added to a very different experience. I would love to go back again - very soon :)

My experience was disappointing at Tramshed. They put on a show that unfortunately, in the end, doesn't deliver. Their space is set up to accommodate large groups well. What I liked the most was the impressive cow and rooster forever preserved in a large tank of formaldehyde at the center of the restaurant. I will definitely never see something like that again! The rest of the experience was downhill from there. The service was incredibly slow for lunch even though the restaurant was almost empty. We even had a set menu for our group. One bonus is that they do have gluten-free options - even Yorkshire pudding (although it was a bit dry). The chicken is served with the feet on and thankfully carved by the server. The food was OK. Overall bland and lacking in flavor. The food was not even presented or plated well. The second best part of our experience was the delicious dark chocolate mousse, which unfortunately was served in piles on parchment paper. While it looked like something undesirable, it tasted incredible.

Amazing art but the feet on the chicken are an acquired taste. I suggest that clients are told that the chicken is served "on the bone" with the feet before finalizing their order. Amazing ambience and fantastic service from Will and Sarah! Highly recommend!

I'm not a big fan of red meat so I got the vegetarian/fish menu, the food is good I got the curry sweet potato and the fish fingers. The atmosphere and decoration here goes on top of everything. One thing that got me a little annoyed is that they try to hard to be cool, the waitress was rude and she kept making b*tch faces to me and my friend when we where paying. This restaurant is more for the experience than the food.

I have always wanted to try out the Tramshed since I work nearby, but haven't been due to the thought that it might cost an arm or a leg. Well, recently I've discovered that they have a special Lunch menu. They have a 2 course express lunch or alternatively you can also choose from a lunch special sandwich menu, where you can sample (and I do mean sample based on portion size) the 2 (only) 2 items that they do, chicken or steak, in sandwich form. Obviously if you do go for the lunch menu you won't be getting the full experience of the wow factor / presentation of the chicken / steak, you'll just have to watch and drool when other tables order it. So we went for the cock and bull, which is a half chicken & half steak sandwich with fries on the side. While the portion size was a bit on the small side, and the sandwich filling (the GOOD stuff) was somewhat little (here I mention the word sample again), the bits we did get were absolutely delicious... and has done its job perfectly of luring me back soon for a full meal. I'd highly recommend anyone who's unsure about this place to try out their lunch menu to 'test the water' or if you are a big chicken/steak fan.. dive right into the full menu. PS - Vege options available :)

    The 1KG porterhouse from Tramshed
    James A.

When you walk in, the first thing you see is the massive work of art by Damien Hirst. A massive formaldehyde sculpture of a cow with a chicken on its back, in a holding tank on top of a massive stel pedestal in the middle of the restaurant. AWESOME. On the staff's recommendation, I ordered the 1 kilogram Porterhouse. 1000g of monster steak comprised of the fillet and sirloin sitting each side of the bone. For the non-metrics among you, that's 2.2 lbs or over 35 ounces! Don't worry, I didn't tackle this beast alone. I had the help of two friends, but chosen for their smaller appetites, it's all about strategy going into this! The steak was served a perfect, pink and juicy medium rare and carved at the table by a steady hand. It arrived on a massive chopping board accompanied by fries and unlimited béarnaise and mustard sauces. The beef at Tramshed comes from Shorthorn, Hereford and Aberdeen Angus breeds, hand-picked from the Swainson House Farm in Lancashire as I mentioned earlier. Despite the variety in breed, the one thing they all share is dry aging in a Himalayan salt chamber. I don't know what that is, but it sounds magical, mystical, and fantastic. Now I'm primarily a ribeye man, going for that nice ribbon of fat in the middle cooked to a medium level to melt it smoothly into the surrounding meat. But I gotta say, a Porterhouse is a perfect sharing cut at Tramshed. The Fillet offers a less flavorful, but more melt-in-your-mouth texture and the sirloin packs a punch of flavor with its ribbon of fat and more bite. When the judges scorecards were added up, the Sirloin portion prevailed as the favorite of the table. At £75, the 1000g portion easily served three and I believe it's worth the price. It's steak, unsullied by anything fancy, just straight to the point! I go into some more detail on my beeffanatic.com site, but I highly recommend this place!

Bone marrow and onions (12 GBP) - This was surprisingly good. Although the marrow itself didn't have much of a flavor, it was a nice buttery consistency to spread on the bread. The onions were cooked very well. Sticky Toffee Pudding (9.50 GBP) - This was more of a bread like dessert than a pudding, but was tasty and not overly sweet despite the toffee (which is good). The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. The interior is decorated in a nice yet not too pretentious steakhouse style. We were seated with no reservation, but we did come closer to closing time. Staff warned us that we did need to order and get any drinks we wanted sooner rather than later, but that was OK. I got the flat iron steak because of course I had to try the namesake of the place. I got it with the side of roasted aubergine, tomato, basil, and mozzarella. I did not enjoy the side because of the very mushy texture, so that was a bit of a bummer. The steak itself was pretty delish. As a cocktail I had their passion fruit Collins which was very refreshing. I found that overall in London the cocktails were all on point pretty much everywhere we went. We had noticed that any person leaving the restaurant always had ice cream, and when we were finished with the meal we did get the little silver cleavers and our free sweet treat. I appreciated the straightforward menu and the ambience, which is casual but also stylish and not pretentious at all, just relaxed and cozy with softer lighting and a good flow.

Good, a bit sweet. Messy to eat. 3/5 Truffle fries - good but average 4/5 Polenta - very tasty, a must. 3/5 Duck and waffle - I expected this to be bigger but it was good. I normally prefer chicken but the duck wasn't bad. All the food was decent and the staff were all nice. It's unfortunate that the walk to the restaurant passes by the smelly toilets. Also there was only one lift working that day so it took a little time to get up/down.

I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.

We had zero expectations, but ended up having what might be our favorite meal of the whole trip. The staff? Absolute gems -- especially patient with us Texans who came armed with 400 questions (bless them). The restaurant's tucked downstairs, and here's a tip: book bar seating. Not at the bar, but in the room with the bar. It's cozier, prettier, and avoids the more standard dining space. The vibe? Understated elegance. Think cozy meets classy without any of the snobbery. Now, let's talk food. The Yorkshire pudding was no slouch, but the vegetarian Wellington--oh man. I was fully prepared to mourn the absence of beef, but it turns out blasphemy tastes incredible. Rich, flavorful, and completely unexpected. My jaw said "wow" before my brain could form a sentence. Would we go back? In a heartbeat. And possibly request the same cabbie for more divine dining directions.

We both ordered it and the server notified us that it is a vegetarian dish so I am wondering if this mistake occurs frequently and they need to make it more apparent in the menu. The server was a little rude when I was asking questions about the menu since in America we use different terminology, and he expressed how impatient he was for my questions. He was also not extremely present at the table. Luckily for us other servers tended to us as well. The other dishes that we ordered were very good and I would definitely come to this place again.

I tried the British beef in a ribeye and great flavor from the grass fed. Being that I am an American I passed on the Goodman special which is an American corn-fed ribeye, but the two mates at the table opted for that. They reported it was more than excellent. The table had mushrooms that were very good. One of our table mates opted for the burger which looked very good and he reported was excellent with crispy fries on the side.
