I have been using trailer city Hempstead for several years to help maintain my Trailex open trailer mostly with small jobs and have always been happy. However last week I consulted with them and completed a major overhaul of the whole wiring harness, all lights, brake fluid, new tires, wheel bearings and more. Brian and Sheila along with the rest of the crew inside did a great job organizing everything and assured me it would be ready on time. They sent me across the street where Bob and Lou along with the repair crew reviewed everything with me and listened to my concerns. When I returned to pick up the trailer I was absolutely amazed at the terrific, detailed job the crew did. Everything was done as we had discussed. My dad has been a customer here to get the cover for his pick up trucks done for a few years now. Every time he gets a new pick up truck, he would make the long drive out here to buy/order + install it with them. He has never had a problem but this year, would unfortunately be the last time he is coming here. I will not recommend to anyone when asked where we got our car's cap installed. Maybe it's the pandemic and they're understaffed. But that should not compromise the quality of their work. Even after having an appointment to have the cap installed, my dad was told to wait 3+ hours to get it done. By that time, my dad had other errands to run but had to stay nearby the area because we don't live nearby. He had to go and could not have the water test done. He said he will come back another day to get it done. Now, scheduling this should not have been as difficult as they make it to be. We could not schedule a date that worked for both of us without costing us a whole day off. Unfortunately, my dad's cap leaks and seeps in water- and honestly, we don't want to bother with making the trek out there or dealing with the scheduling. read more

We used to get our Cub Scout / Boy Scout uniform from this place about 3 years ago and we went there to try to grab our uniform again today, but I was advised that they are no longer selling Scout uniforms. The gentleman provided me the name of another scout uniform store nearby. When I asked him for the address, he was nice enough to take out his phone and did a google search for me. I thought he had the address on his mind so I asked for it, I did not expect him to do a google search for me. He was such a caring and considerate person. I did not get his name, but he made a good representation of the store. Will definitely go back for help if anything comes up with my vehicle. read more

The service at this establishment is Horrible, Horrible, Horrible! I ordered a boat trailer over the phone, and spoke with Pat. I paid in full with my credit card and was told I would have the trailer in 10 days. Pat said he'd fax me an invoice of the order and then would follow up with me the next day. Didn't happen! It get's better. I called him repeatedly to follow up, and each time I spoke with him he asked me for my phone number (Dude, write it down.), and told me he would get back to me - but never did. This happened at least four times. It went like this: I would have to call him, and each time I had to explain my order. After four weeks, the trailer finally came in - four weeks is 28 days, not 10 days. But I didn't know it came in and was ready to pick up because Pat never called me. I found out it was there because I took the initiative to check on it. At this point, I just wanted to get the trailer and be done with it--the summer solstice had come and gone. But, there were several things that needed to be done at their shop before I could put my boat on it. I explained to Pat what I needed customized, and he told me he would take care of it. The drama continues. After a week or so, with no word from Pat, I went to the shop personally to see what kind of progress, if any, had been made. I met Pat, and when I asked about a part that was ordered to complete the job, he said: "I think I got the part in, I'm not sure. I think it's over there," pointing to a corner of the store. I was a bit incredulous, thinking to myself: Is this a joke ... where are the hidden cameras? But, I bit my tongue and asked: "Can you tell me if that's the part over there?" Pat's answer: "You just have to wait; we're busy. I don't know what to tell you." I have to say that Bob, the service manager was helpful and courteous. He apologized for my experience. Need I tell you, dear reader, what my recommendation is? I'll say it plainly: Pat was rude and could care less about taking care of my trailer or his customer. Take your business elsewhere read more

I am giving them 2 stars for the fact that they have TONS of supplies and can order if not in stock. other wise they OVER CHARGE ,un safe services, zero company communication. Read my review and feel free to email me and I can tell you what happen. My issues started the first time I used their services. I have had 3 different services done by them and all services either had to be re-done or were not done correctly. First time they re wired a used trailer that I brought and was traveling to FL , by the time I got to FL. I had gotten then trailer inspected and was told all the wires got ripped out during transit. I feel that should NOT happen if they wired it correctly the first time. Second time I had issues with my trailer locking up when I plugged in into my truck so I brought my personal vehicle to them. They charged around $170 (1.5 hours of work ) They put my truck in the bay ASAP which was good, after I paid, I went home plugged into my trailer. Everything worked for about 2 min then almost all my lights on the trailer AND truck went out. YES it was a fuse BUT ALL my lights worked BEFORE they re wired my personal car. It was 4:30pm when I called they told me I have to wait until the next morning and to bring it in. That's fine. HOWEVER, when I got there 9:45AM the service center had NO idea I was coming. ZERO COMMUNICATION. When I mentioned my concern it was blown off as in a complacency to the fact that they don't communicate with the front desk very well. That I had to leave the trailer there until they could get to it. I also told them I was now driving with no rear lights on my personal truck. They said NBD we will fix it when you get back. So now I get to drive home with illegal lights. They had my trailer until 3pm. with NO phone call. I had to call them. BTW they charge $95 PER HOUR and they tried telling me they had 2 guys working in it and should be able to charge me for BOTH their labor but aren't. I look at the bill, they put 4 hours of labor. That OVER $400. I HAD NO idea between yesterday and today i would be pay almost $700 to REWIRE my truck and trailer. Do you guys even know what your doing here??!!! Trailer city, I thought you have been in business for 40 + years . HOW does it take 4 hours to do something you all SHOULD KNOW and fix right away or in a decent time frame. Test wires and then REWIRE if its that messed up OR how about calling the customer before you spend more than 2+hours. DO NOT JUST CHARGE BY HOUR BECAUSE YOU cannot figure it out. named "Trailer city" but then take hours to complete a job that should not take that long. Don't even get me on the clamps they used, it was a mess. Not professionally done or looking at all. They wanted to charge me $412 but I argued so they lowered it to $350. fine. I get it back to FL and the licensed electrician tells me the wires are not correct, they blinker was on the brake and the brake was on a ground unit . I HAVE PHOTOS TO PROVE . yes everything worked or was "up tp code " at their shop so they said but how the hell am I supposed to know. The rewire my entire pathfinder day 1 and that blew as soon as I plugged in, so they had to Rewire my entire trailer and that wasn't even correct . Now I had to take it to another place to get rewire AGAIN 2 weeks later. I do NOT apologize but Trailer city your communication within your staff Horrendous, you're business is ran by a older management that may have experience but is NOT up to date and do NOT listen to the customer. To many hands in the management pot, not enough accurate, timely knowledge. Perfect example they let one of the older gentleman ring me up the first day and he didn't know how to work the cc machine and rang me up wrong. Sweet man but I feel they need to have less people running the show and hire people who ACTUALLY know what they are doing instead of wasting customer billable hours while over charging for shitty and un safe service. Again they may have propane and other supplies but I do NOT RECOMMEND their service. 3X unsatisfied customer. YES I am disputing this unacceptable service. read more

I'll never go anywhere else again. These guys installed a roof AC unit and the electrical work in my camper van. They did it in less then 2 days and had to cut my roof rack. The results were amazing and clean. They really took there time to explain everything and were even helping me save money by making better decisions. I went to this store on Friday, 7/6/18. I went to purchase Badge Magic and when I went in, I noted that all of the camping inventory was missing. I became nervous--was this store also leaving Hempstead? I barely recovered from the loss of Tent City. I was told that people were complaining about the price of the Boy Scout supplies, and such complaints caused the store to dismantle that part of the store and commission a Mineola store to sell the camping items. This is a PSA: PLEASE RECONSIDER. Walmart, Target, and Dick's may be long on goods, but they are short on service. They are not viable substitutes. Bear in mind that the entire Pathfinder organization of New York relied on this store for just about all of its camping needs. Osh Kosh Camporee is coming up in August, 2019--They can make up for those that are complaining about your prices. PLEASE COME BACK.. read more

My employer recommended this place to me to have them fill up propane for our truck. I have to say, I have been to other locations and experienced the same problem every time. The staff here at trailer city were so easily accommodating and friendly and filled up my propane so fast it was fantastic! Everywhere else I've gone- the staff will make me feel guilty and like it's a terrible hassle for them to fill my propane. Thanks Trailer City crew for making my day go smoother and stress free. Amazing place! I purchased a Leer bad cap from them and had them install it on my Tacoma. They had to do some mods to get it on but did a perfect job. They took the time to get it right. I couldn't ask for friendlier service. They even washed the truck when they were done. read more

This place is the worst find what you need somewhere else. I went to buy a hitch to connect to my vehicle and a trailer. A guy named Carl sold me extra parts not needed and when I went back to return them one day later he wouldn't even get up from his desk to help me and then complained I didn't have the receipt. Meanwhile they still write out hand written receipts and have carbon copies. When I continued the conversation he ignored me. Then when I finally went back to pick up the trailer after 3 days about paperwork that they didn't do my first visit, the now we're trying to charge me again for the ball because I didn't have my receipt on me trying to tell me he never charged me for it even though he did. Then he gave me a hard time again about the extra parts and tells me we don't do returns. No where does it say that in the store and if that's the case he shouldn't have sold me extra parts. This place is horrible! The installation guys across the street from the actual store are the worst. I had the cap for my Sport Trac serviced there. Needed new T-handles/locks, the Removable Front Sliding Window installed and cap brackets installed. T-handles were real cheap but installed correctly. The guy in charge of the installation area seems to disregard the fact that I am the Customer, it is MY money paying them, MY cap and MY truck. That means I get the final say on whether or not the work was done to my liking. Well it wasn't. He was very rude and to put it plainly he was a real piece of shit and spoke to me like I was a piece of shit. I didn't try to remove the Removable Front Sliding Window for a while after getting home. It was very hard to remove it and even harder to re-install it after washing the windows. Now some time has passed having this work done last year. I tried again to remove the "Removable" Front Sliding Window and thought there must be some kinda trick to remove and re-install. I searched the internet like anyone else would and watched youtube videos of people removing the Removable Front Sliding Window with 1 hand. I new realize that its not my cap, its not the brand new window, it was Trailer Citys horrible installation. I would never go there again. I traveled from Queens and spend 1/2 a day out there waiting, paid A LOT to get the parts and work done and am left with an UNRemovable Front Sliding Window. The people behind the counter in the store section were pretty nice. I didn't bother bringing up to them that I almost had a fight with the service guy. I got to the point with him that I told him to give me my keys and to forget about. I was strapping the top down with ratcheting tie downs and leaving. A Jamaican guy who was very nice stopped me from leaving and assured me that the service manager had had many problems with customers and was at times an asshole. I completely agree with him. Now I will have to either remove the entire Removable Front Sliding Window assembly and re-install it my self correctly or bring it to a professional place to have the work done correctly.
