Amazing ambience. Every level of detail is incredible. They have a hand woven straw roof , huge hot pot in the middle an beautiful decorations. For service the waiters are amazing. They are attentive and knowledgeable. They eagerly describe everything on the menu for you. Apparently this is the home of the mai tai so you must try one. They also.have other delicious and fun drinks For food o had the seafood mix that came with lobster shrimp and scallops in a lobster sauce with rice. It was absolutely delicious. For my 2000th review for Yelp...I dedicate it to an Atlanta institution...Trader Vic's. One of only 2 Trader Vics in the US this location is not only legendary to the locals but has a dedicated cult following. Trader Vics was started in the late 1930s by Victor "Vic" Bergeron after he visited Don the Beachcomber's restaurant in Los Angeles in 1937 who had a Pan-Asian cuisine and exotic cocktails that had half of Hollywood buzzing...literally. So the story goes that Victor flew himself down to Cuba to begin learning and inventing cocktail recipes...and apparently island hopped for a few years become returning to the U.S. of A and re-invented a whole new American cuisine experience...Polynesian tiki style dinning. It was pretty big in the 50's...especially with Frank Sinatra and the ratpack...I seem to remember Sinatra sang quite a few hits about tiki bars and drinks...and some exotic girl that he meet...maybe Ava Gardner... Anyway what makes Atlanta's Trader Vic's so special is that it was personally decorated by Bergeron himself. Apparently he spent a lot of money and time sourcing the decor for the restaurant...okay so the sea turtles on the walls aren't from Pier One Imports then? And those green jade wall decors thingies aren't Chinese knock offs either? If that's not impressive the restaurant also has two painting painted by Bergeron...not sure where there are but I heard they're there...maybe the bathrooms... What I enjoy the most about this location is it's total immersion. From the soft Hawaiian music in the background to the cool Chinese oven up front. It's like being transported into another world. Since it's located in the basement of the Hilton Hotel it's a total oasis from the rest of the world... Lets not forget...impeccable old world service that you can't get anymore where you're treated like an honored guest. Now as far as food is concerned I think it's a definite 4 stars only because you're eating it in such a historic and magical place. Is the food unique? hmmm not so much now that Atlanta has become such a metropolitan place but to find high quality, Hawaiian-Chinese fusion food served in such a special place? Definitely a 5 stars....it's definitely worth repeating since in a few years they'll become a historical landmark... Can I just share this funny story about eating here during Dragon Con weekend...we were sitting next to a couple that was totally drunk off their butts and guess what they were talking about? I've been dying to come here since they closed all but two US Trader Vic's. This one is located in the Hilton hotel and looks like it did in its heyday. We came in on a Saturday around 6 and got seats at the bar. The restaurant is huge, but was empty. Dinner reservations slowly trickled in as we were leaving. There isn't happy hour daily nor on the weekends. I believe they have one day for cheap mai tais. My husband and I each ordered a drink. I got a mai tai and it was good. The best I've ever had? No, but good. We didn't eat as the menu isn't vegan friendly and we were just stopping for a cocktail. I took a self guided tour around the restaurant. It's pretty cool and is filled with old tiki artifacts, photos, and decor. Was fun to go, but there are modern tiki bars I'll visit next. read more

First visit. Not impressed. Was with a party of 7 and made reservations. We were seated right away. Then the wait started. It took 25 minutes to get our first drinks. It took 30 minutes to get our appetizers. We were finally served our meals after 90 minutes. One of our group ordered the meal with eggplant and he couldn't find any eggplant at all. One of our group's meal was cold. One of our group ordered scallops and it never was served. No reason given as to why. We left at the two hour mark. Not a good experience at all. read more

Sadly to say an overall two star experience on this visit. Went here with a Travelzoo special, which was a seemingly good deal on paper. Issues started before we hit the restaurant, although the first issue was not the restaurant's fault, but the Hilton hotel which houses the restaurant. It was a very busy Saturday on 8/8 and when we arrived at the Hilton @ 5 pm the valet told us where to park (parking was free with this Travelzoo offer and Trader Vics validates parking). Don't understand why the valet was waiving all the cars down to the underground parking garage as it is small and was clearly full, however, once we got down there with the hoards of cars in front of us and behind us it took us 25 minutes just to get out of the garage! We ended up parking in a lot near the Hilton for $12. When we entered at the restaurant we were 20 minutes early for our 6 pm reservation and they said that they were already busy and that we would have to wait. I was surprised because typically we don't eat this early, but the Travelzoo voucher stipulated an earlier seating. We went into the small Tiki bar, which was nearly full and had a drink. We got seated at 6 pm and were surprised that there were very few guests seated in the restaurant; that continued to be the status until we left 75 min later, so don't know how they were supposedly busy because as it didn't appear to be the case. Their cocktail menu is the best part of the restaurant as there is such a huge variety with interesting flavors, stories, and glassware. Doubt you can make a bad choice with the cocktails. For the food we started with the combo"pupu"platter - the Cosmo Tidbits - which contained the Crab Rangoon (lame), Crispy Prawns (very good), BBQ Spare Ribs (good, but small), and Cha Siu Pork (good, but slightly dry). This platter comes with three sauces: simplified they were BBQ, sweet & sour, & wasabi ginger (no heat, but flavorful). For the main courses, my wife had the bacon-wrapped scallops and I had the 8 oz filet mignon. The scallops were very good and we both enjoyed them. I ordered my filet Medium, but it was close to Rare. What a disappointment, especially at a $36.50 price! You would think they would know how to cook a steak as I could tell that it was barely cooked when I moved it the first time with my utensils. By the time I saw my server we were already well into the meal and I decided to try and power through it. The server did ask if she could take it back for them to re-cook. The meats are cooked in their "Chinese ovens", so it wouId have taken a while, so no thanks - why not cook it right the first time. There is nothing worse then having to send a meal back while dining with someone. I did eat nearly half of the filet, but it wasn't very satisfying. This Travelzoo special also was to come with two desserts. I have had the desserts here before and they are pretty good so I was looking forward to salvaging the meal. Our server said that the chef does a "special" dessert that is a shared dessert for this Travelzoo voucher, so you don't have a choice of desserts. The dessert ended up being a light, summery-type dessert that consisted of one bowl of chopped up fruit with one bowl of a mascarpone-type mousse. It was very "meh" and didn't salvage the expensive undercooked steak blunder. Overall, this is a cool little place in the basement of the Hilton, but the food and more importantly, the execution was below par. Recommend the drinks, but that would be it based on this experience. Of note, I have been here before for drinks and dessert only and it was great. However, please know that you will smell like smoke when you leave here - your clothes, hair, everything. Their Chinese Ovens, although behind a glass wall, are wood-burning and smoke permeates the air and everything in the restaurant. read more

However, at the end of my Atlanta conference I decided to stay my last night at the Hilton and as I took the elevator up I was reminded that trader VICS was in the basement of that hotel. I tried to get a reservation, but it was fully booked, so I waited until the hostess could get me a seat in the bar area. The bartender/waiter served me and was super nice. Everything was delicious and wonderful, just as always. Now I need to find an excuse to get back to Atlanta, asap. read more

Coming here was a giant disappointment. The prices are high for the quality of food you get. Honestly skip the food and just get drinks. It took 3 hours from being seated to leaving. They are understaffed like most places, but I am very sure that our server didn't put in our order. It took forever to get food and then the check. We were not checked on for an hour. This place was a nice surprise while staying at the Hilton in Atlanta. When you take the elevator to the floor below and arrive there, I was awed. It felt like I was in some Polynesian restaurant outside of the US. Service was excellent. Staff was polite and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the rack of lamb chops and they were perfectly medium and delicious. My wife had the curry dish with tofu and she said it was delicious as well. We also had a few drinks and I must say that mai Thai was awesome and strong. For dessert it was not on the menu, but our waiter mentioned that we could still do a pineapple upside down cake that we had seen on earlier menus. The pineapple upside down cake was delicious as well. I would've loved to go back to the restaurant during our three night stay but just didn't have enough time. next time I'm in Atlanta, I will definitely go again. read more

This is a hidden jewel located on the lower lever of the Atlanta Hilton. Had diner last night and it was outstanding as always. Started with the vegetarian spring rolls which are not fried, but rice paper wrapped around lots of tasty stuff. My wife was very pleased. I had the surf and turf. The lobster was outstanding along with a very flavorful filet. The service was good and had no major issues, but there is room to improve. Well as someone who is born and raised in the A, I have heard a time or two about the legend that is Trader Vic's. My mom has told me about and how much she enjoyed going to eat here when she was younger and after my husband and I watched a feature oh Atlanta Eats about this place, it was a perfect time to make reservations for his birthday and we were super excited. I always love when I'm able to make reservations with OpenTable, so if you decide to go, be sure to make one. While the restaurant is located at the Hilton, I was happy that I'm an observant person or I would've completely missed the parking area located off Piedmont. *note - do not valet as the restaurant will validate your parking ticket* Once in the parking deck, look for the sign stating hotel and something to the effect of "this way to Traders Vic's" and make your way up the elevator to the main lobby. The signage isn't that great so I had to ask a staff member but we were directed to another set a elevators and we made our way down to some good food. Once we made our way to the restaurant, I was less than impressed with the reception. There was no one at the hostess stand and after a few minutes, we had to find someone at the bar to get someone to seat us. The manager actually sat us and just seemed flustered but apologized for our wait and took us to the back. We passed a huge wood fire grill and could just smell something delicious was being made. Our waitress, Linda, was absolutely spectacular! She was super sweet and knew the menu like the back of her hand and knew exactly how to explain what was in various dishes. I kept it simple and order the Chef Cheing 's Special Fried Rice and loved it. The drinks were awesome and the banana foster was an experience. What a great place! We are currently on a Tiki tour. Mai Thai was awesome. If you're looking for decent food, fun place to hang out and the themed Tiki- this Trader Vic's doesn't disappoint! Our hostess was super sweet and it felt like home for a nice restaurant. If you're looking for some place nice to eat but don't feel like getting really dressed up (or you can) you won't feel out of place. We had the flaming beef skewers- and an array of other pupus that I honestly can't remember because the Mai Thai's pack a punch. (We were staying at the Hilton this restaurant is housed in). I believe you get free parking in the garage if you're not staying. But honestly - grab a Lyft if you're gonna imbibe in any of the delicious Tiki drinks. Have fun! read more

Coming in from Charlotte- Decided to try Trader Vic's out on a Thursday night, less than impress from the start- however the decor is probably my favorite part. I think it's weird how they are not playing music. I just hear loud conversations- however that's fineeee. Appetizers were 2/5, bland, nothing special- our entrees was also not cooked properly, ribs were tough and didn't taste according to price. ( I've showed my recipe for reference to food I'm talking about) Drinks were, just ok. Nothing spectacular. Overall the service was mediocre. Will not be returning, guess I just expected more- I rather save my 120$ for two people and buy Taco Bell- at least I'll know what I'm getting into and save the pockets from disappointment. read more

We went here for my friend's birthday. First of all, it was a nightmare getting to the actual restaurant because you have to go through the hotel lobby. The hotel lobby was so busy and the elevator down to the restaurant kept getting crowded and surrounded. I actually had to call the restaurant and have them send somebody up to bring us down because we were unable to get on the elevator. The food was pretty solid, and we liked everything we ordered. My favorite thing was the tuna poke. The tuna was high quality and so tender. Unfortunately, even though we had a reservation they don't do anything for birthdays. At least they didn't for us. The server seemed very busy and forgot a lot of things. He didn't write anything down and got the salad wrong in the beginning. The drinks were really good, though. And they have a huge selection of them. There's just something fun about drinking from a tiki cup. I would return here and just hope that the service would be better next time. read more

We felt transported to a tropical paradise with the beautiful oceanic inspired interior and excellent food and service. Bartenders Salam & Milenko couldn't have been nicer, and our server Rena was the best. We drove from NY to Atlanta to experience one of the last two Trader Vic's in the United States. We stayed at the Hilton Atlanta, where the restaurant is located on the lower level. Just get in any elevator and you'll see the Trader Vic's button. This place is packed full of beautiful Marquesan & Tangaroan Tikis, and Sepik River Valley art. There is also a dolphin wearing a hula skirt and a coconut bra. We couldn't have had more fun. Live music every Thursday starting at 8:30pm. The manager Maurice Pinder, Jr. is doing a great job, Vic Bergeron would be proud of him. We stayed at the Hilton and the sign of Trader Vic brough back memories from way back, and I was compelled to take my little ones there. My kids were in awe of the Polynesian decoration, and now they want me to take them to Hawaii. The staff was super friendly, happy, and will go above and beyond to make the customer happy. My daughter wanted a smoothie, and our bartender made a mango/strawberry/coconut drink and had it in a full size cup. My daughter and I debated if the cup was a mermaid or a seahorse. She's a picky eater, and they made a salt/pepper calamari without pepper, light salt, with sauce on the side--all to my daughter's liking. I've been coming to Trader Vics for years, with a large group, as a Wednesday night tradition before the start of DragonCon. I've always had good service and food, though somewhat slow. This year my friend who is a Trader Vic's regular had to miss it due to health issues, so I decided to take up the reservation. What a mistake it was. I had been sitting on this review for awhile, mainly because I wanted to try to recover my photos from the experience after my phone malfunctioned, but I cant seem to get them. I feel like my review is still relevant though, as it directly impacts large parties - especially those at DragonCon and other large conventions in the area. Let me first point out that I understand they were short staffed, but it was no excuse for my experiences. First off, I tried to add 1 person to my 12 person reservation, was told it was done, and then never had my reservation changed. When I attempted to get ahold of them 2 weeks before to make sure it wasnt going to be an issue it turned out to be impossible. I called every night and was either forward to the hotels front desk, who couldnt help me, or told to wait and then hung up on by restaurant staff. I finally reached someone via their facebook page, but by the time I was confirmed to change it was quite a while later and I was already in Atlanta and had actually gotten someone on the phone to finally confirm it. The day of the reservation happened, I confirmed it through open table as I was told to do. It still said 12 people but the person on the phone assured me it would be not a problem. I got to the restaurant with 11 of our 13 guests on time. I was first told that 1) my reservation didn't exist. When I pulled up my open table reservation they told me that it was only for the 12 people and that they received no request to add an additional person. I called them out on this because I was 99% certain the person I was speaking to then was the person I spoke to on the phone, because of their accent. They finally agreed. They then said they wouldn't seat us, a party of 11, because 2 persons were missing. We said fine and proceeded to wait in the bar, then no longer had we ordered our drinks then the same host comes up and tells us we have to go sit down now. The restaurant was not that busy, but for some reason we were stuck in the back of the restaurant, away from any other parties. I should have known better than to accept this table because we were promptly forgotten about, not once, not twice, but 3 times. They sat us & it took them 30 minutes to come back and get our drink orders, and that was only because I went up to the hostess stand looking for our missing party members because the hostess kept telling them that we were not there. We ordered our drinks and some people ordered appetizers, it took them an HOUR to get us our drinks and appetizers, which were not made properly and the food was cold. This was after I had gone up to the staff several times asking for our waiter and was assured they would be coming. My friend who was not with our group ended up tracking down a manager and complained for us and that is why we got their attention. Many people at that point just wanted to leave, though many of us hadn't had the opportunity to get any food. Our party then was reduced to about half the size. The menu was extremely limited and missing pretty much any of the entrees that were normally on the menu. This wasn't because of the convention at this point, but apparently because of COVID measures. By the time our food came out I had it. I ate and was ready to leave. I only got one drink because the waiter kept forgetting to bring them and my fried rice was again served cold and there was no meat in it. Most of the other people had similar experiences. Then it came to paying the check, we didnt even get an I'm sorry for our experiences. They added automatic gratuity, which we were expecting, but when I paid with cash I was shorted $30. I had to track down the waiter who told me it was automatic gratuity for my check. I told him no, that it was already added to the total and I wanted the $30. He argued with me several times, then came back with $20. I told him again I wanted the $10 he shorted me. He told me that no the check was X amount - little did he know I had taken a photo of the original receipt which showed the proper total. I had handed him a $100 bill so there was no way to get around his math was wrong. He then brought it to me. I'll be honest, I had every intention of tipping him an extra 10% on top of the auto gratuity but him trying to steal the additional funds ended that. All in all, my group spent well over $1000 total for a terrible time. We would have spent more than that if we would have been waited on. I seriously doubt any of us will do business again with this place. I attempted to contact the Corporate Trader Vics offices about our experiences but never heard back. I like savory, salty with a hint of sweet. The pork appetizer was great but the main offerings seemed just okay. Before we even stepped inside we were greeted by this amazing lady (sorry can't remember her name ) Walking inside to see all the great decor and awesome bar area I'm not big on writing TOO MUCH lol but the food was beautifully plated The steak was so tender and flavorful My friend had also mentioned her lamb came out perfect also ! The ambience is on par. The vibe? Polynesian. The bar? Two very odd bartenders. On each visit this year, they give off a creepy vibe - hanging out with single women while snubbing everyone else. I have been hearing about The Vic's for years and have been a few times now, so decided to write a review. I like that it's never too packed or busy whenever I go and I can enjoy a chill setting. I've had the shrimp fried rice, the wonton soup, and their signature Mai Tai cocktail. The rice dish was pretty good, but my absolute faves were the wonton soup and the Mai Tai. Both were stellar and I get them everytime I go! The place can be a bit tricky to find as it is in the bottom of the Hilton hotel, but if you ask any of the staff they usually can direct you to it. read more

I'd stay away from it..... my fiancé has a shellfish allergy that we shared.....but they still mixed us up with somebody else and brought crab to the table. The bartenders, hosts, and wait staff were amazing. The drinks were very nicely poured. No complaints in the drink department. The mai tai were perfect. The neat bourbon was generous and legit, and all of the other fruity drinks that were consumed garnered nothing but praise. The appetizers were hit out of the park. We cleaned up on the crab rangoon, morel mushrooms (double order) and satay chicken. Simply perfect. For the entrees: Two had the pork chops. More later on that... Two had the grouper. I was one and it was the best that I've ever had. Two had the volcano shrimp One had lamb One had hanger steak Hanger steak patron closed his eyes and nom-nom-nom was all that was heard. I tasted it and it was absolutely delicious. Lamb dude loved it as did others who tasted it. I'm not a lamb person but I did taste it was indeed palatable. I had both lunch and dinner at Trader Vic's on a trip to Atlanta last weekend Oh, and it was a wonderful experience. Obviously, Trader Vic's, one of the original Tiki restaurants dating to the 1930s, by Victor Bergeron oh, one of the original gods of the Tiki world is a must stop for any Tiki fanatic such as myself. Trader Vic's did not let me down. Let me first say that the staff is the thing that stood out to me most for both meals. I had lunch at the bar and dinner in the dining room, and the bartenders, the wait staff and the folks at the front of the house were all lovely. They were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and service was quick. My daughter and I had the poo poo platter oh, the New York strip with asparagus and mashed potatoes oh, and a half rack of lamb over Asian noodles cooked to perfection. The food was utterly delicious. A meal or an hour or two at the bar at Trader Vic's is an experience not to be missed. The decor is absolutely transporting- you are taken to a bygone era where exotic locales have a mystery to them, and the theming here is immersive. The tiki mugs are gorgeous and half the fun of ordering the delicious drinks. Don't miss out on the mai tai, which is not the sickly sweet pretty mess you'll get on a cruise ship, but rather the well-balanced original created by Victor Bergeron in 1944. I'd love it if Trader Vic's turned up the tiki music a little bit, and they could do with returning to a more over-the-top garnish game, but overall my experience at Trader Vic's was truly fantastic oh, and I cannot wait to return. read more

Get your Polynesian on! I've eaten at a few of these over the years, and this one was really good. The lamb chops were tasty, my guest's scallops were equally appealing, and the drinks weren't half bad. Go explore some rum and the origins of the Mai Tai... or don't, and have a boring life. read more
