If you are coming during your boat day I'd give this place a 4, coming to it off of dry land... a 3 probably. Pelican Pete's being on the water and making it easy to dock your boat and come on up is suuuper convenient. Who wants to pack a lunch and make room in the cooler? Nobody. That definitely means this place gets busy though. So prepare yourself for possibly a long wait. Some friends and I visited Saturday afternoon. We put our names in for our group (10 of us) and had a wait of an hour. Not horrible. We took a bathroom break and hung out at the boat until it was our time. Pro- the bathroom was surprisingly clean! Con- only 3 stalls so there was a significant line. When we sat down we had to wait a bit to get our orders taken which was a little annoying but there were lots of people there so I'm sure our server was swamped. She was friendly. The food was pretty good! I liked the dock burger that I got. I loved the sauce they put on it, paired really well with the carmelized onions. Fries were awesome! And I loved the Lava Flow drink as well. The way they brought out our food was not the greatest. They had a food runner bringing the plates out and asking the whole table "who ordered the _____" and some of us ordered the same thing without an ingredient so that was a lot of fun for a table of 10. Why not hire more servers and have them bring the food to their own tables? Much better idea especially for larger groups where they know who ordered what. Prices are a little high, especially for things like fish & chips. $24? Kinda weird. Not sure why a burger is $6 less than simple fried fish. Anyway. I know it's on the water and there are costs involved in that, so I won't harp on it too much. I'd happily come back because I enjoyed the food and love how easy it is to come up to it off the water. But it would be really nice if they had more bathrooms and knew who ordered what when they ran food. Oh and if they lowered the price of the seafood. read more

If you want to go eat on the lake, this is one of the better places to go. Great views and large seating area. Be ready to take out a second mortgage to eat though. A dozen wings $25. An ok burger $18. Limited menu for food but plenty of lake drinking options. But don't think about taking them outside the restaurant. The cop there will track you down. Not the restaurants fault. It's the county. But still a PITA if you want to get a drink and wait on the boat for a table to open up. read more

I have some complicated and non-typical food allergies. The staff was amazing at being attentive to the issues and double-checking ingredients. It was a quiet and cloudy weekday off-season and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely setting to get away from life for a few hours. The bathrooms are clean as was the entire restaurant. Overall the price to portion ratio is a bit off. I felt like it was a bit too expensive for the portions and the quality (everything was fine - but nothing extraordinary). Maybe the pricing is more "vacation spot" when you expect to pay more but I since I live 30ish minutes away, I won't be racing back. read more

My friends and I came here a day after being out on the boat as we needed a place to cool down and rehydrate. The outdoor seating looked to be almost full on a Tuesday afternoon but we were fortunate enough to still get seated. We shared an order of nachos with guacamole between 4 people. I found it to be a good size as it was just enough to be paired with out entrees. Since I wasn't too hungry I shared a steak and fries while other people from my group for their fish tacos. I thought the tacos looked a little sad as I'm used to the fish being fried in a batter of some sort. The steak was well seasoned especially with the chimichurri sauce of garlic and herbs. Overall, I had an okay experience. Service was definitely on the slower side which required us to ask a few times for ketchup and more water. Food can be a hit or miss depending on what you order. I may come again if I found myself in the area. read more

The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the location. The food is subpar and expensive, the service is marginal at best. What a wasted opportunity for the potential of a great food/drink destination! It could be like that really cool caribbean spot we've all been to. It's been a number of years since I've been here, and, wow, has this place improved! The restaurant sits on the water and is huge with a great island, tiki vibe. Their menu is not huge, but it is fairly diverse and offers something for everyone. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of rice and beans. The grilled chicken sandwich was fresh and flavorful, and the rice and beans were incredible! They have a full bar and also offer craft drafts. Service was outstanding! Dining here makes one feel like they're on an island vacation! read more

What a tremendous and beautiful setting. Great open layout with wonderful views. Clean and ready to serve. We sampled appetizers, margarita and a lava punch. The drinks were tasty. Large pretzel is fresh baked and filling. Nachos are okay. Definitely stop in and enjoy the setting. read more

Drinks were a disappointment, as we all agreed they were light on the alcohol, and not worth the price. Everything about Pelican Pete's is great except the FOOD! I live on the lake and I was at Pelican Pete's yesterday. I have been there many times and have never had a meal I would recommend. Six of us had fish tacos. There was a tiny rectangular piece of tasteless fish and toppings in a tortilla with stale french fries. They offered avocado for $3. It turned out to be a tiny bit of mashed avocado and not fresh avocado, ugh. Please do something about the quality of food served. We dwellers want to support you! read more

We boated over for a quick lunch and found a very accessible docking experience. Clean restrooms. We ordered wings for appetizers and they were very tasty and had good meat on them. Entrees were fish and chips and the coconut shrimp and both were great! There was a live singer and I enjoyed singing along! Great staff! The remodeled pelicans petes is awesome ! Be prepared to wait a while so dont come starving ! The food atleast is worth the wait when you are starving and looking for a meal to eat! The live music is amazing i wish they had some sort of speaker they could put where we sat which was alllllll the way in the back you are left with no music and i wish i would of been sat close to where you can hear it well but I appreciated the fact that theres mirrors So everyone can see the view. I dont think the servers attempt cleaning the mirrors much which they should to keep up with the beautiful ambiance. I ordered the filet tips and sautéed green beens ! I also hada frozen rose! Was invited here for early dinner by a friend. First it was a long drive. Nevermind that but once arrived, the view from our table was so relaxing, it erased the horrible 285/85 late afternoon traffic on a Friday. Our server was friendly and quite efficient. I liked that. The drinks kept coming timely. Our waters were also timely.... sometimes, water takes a long time because it's free (at other restaurants). We perused the menu and I decided to go with the Drunken Mussels and Caribbean Shrimp Ceviche. Drunken Mussels - I told the server to go easy on the ale in my mussels and she told me they can't since the mussels are cooked in a large batch and it's ladled onto a plate when ordered. And so, I got an overcooked dish and mussels shrunk from overcooking and became rubbery. The sauce was oily (pale ale sauce with chorizo) - I didn't like that. The baguette that came with it was not toasted, it was not a baguette but a regular sandwich bread structure stretched into a baguette length and shape. I was really disappointed. Didn't return it since my party all got their food and I didn't want to sit waiting for my make-up food in a busy restaurant. Honestly, mussels do not need a lot of cooking time. Not sure why the restaurant chose to pre-cook. Caribbean Shrimp Ceviche was better. The taste was refreshing. I enjoyed it much better than the other. The squid and shrimp weren't rubbery. I liked that it had a little sour, and just enough sweetness & fresh herbs to lift the overall taste flavor profile. Personally I wouldn't order the Mussels again unless it's cooked upon request. read more

My wife recently went over our billing statements only to find out that someone at Pelican Pete's had altered the tip on our tab. I had tipped 18%. When my wife got the statement from the credit card company it was changed to reflect a 20% tip. This may seem insignificant, but is unacceptable. This is probably the last time I will be going there. It also confirmed my suspicions of Bills getting mixed up to other customers as I observed rushed waitresses at the bar tossing around receipts frantically near closing time. read more

It look like they have done a remodel of this place. Come by boat if you're on the lake or drive in. If you're driving in, parking is easy and free. If you are boating in, please be sure to park in the guest voters section. A lot of the slips belong to owners. There were a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you are going to drink alcohol, you are only allowed to drink it within the restaurant. You cannot walk out of the restaurant area due to Forsyth county ordinance. We came on a Monday night so we did not have to wait long. They do not take reservations, so if you have a large party, be prepared to wait several minutes. We do not have to wait long, thankfully. Food was certainly delicious! And drinks were good too, but it is expensive. read more

Amazing place. Beautiful views all around. I recommend making a reservation. We had seen the sign on the main road and decided to go one day. We were told 1 1/2 hour wait. Since we were excited we decided to wait. Good thing is we were able to get drinks while waiting. The Frosè was amazing! Our wait turned out to only be 30 minutes. We ended up with a table for 2 and a super nice waiter. The appetizer of pimento cheese dip with celery, carrots and tortilla chips was outstanding! I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with fries, delicious, (ended up taking half my meal home.). Highly recommend! People in Gainesville probably know all about Pelican Pete. A busy restaurant that is reached by the pontoon boat we were in. The dock for pumping gas was also a convenient place to disembark and walk towards the Pelican Pete front door. Oh wow, we were very lucky as no sooner did we add our name to the waiting list. The line got tripled within just a few minutes. Yes, it definitely is a well-known lakeside eating and drinking (bar) place. 6 of us have been well served by Ally. Our dining pleasure included ribs with a nice sweet coating, the tacos were a hit, the fish and Chips accompanied by a bowl of clam Chowder was a winner, and the vegan grain bowl skipping the rice was just right, and for another it is the lemon Pepper wings with the wedge salad that was more than can be handled. Drinks were ordered, and we had just a major problem with the soda water. It came nicely presented with lime and a straw, but one sip by a non alcoholic drinker, and it was as if fire water was served. It tasted as if it was spiked, and a new real soda was brought. We had our food, and now we can enjoy the view and watch as boats navigate on the lake. It was time to get our check, and I'm told no AMEX. Luckily, I carry another CC. We split the bill and found our way out of the crowded restaurant...oh by the way..obedient dogs are allowed in, and yeah, it makes walking to the restroom to wash hands and bbq sauce fingers a meandering challenge. Fun place, and you can take your dog! Parking can be a bit difficult on a nice day as this restaurant is at a very popular marina on Lake Lanier. The staff are friendly, food is good " pub food " and there is live music. Good selection of local beers. Prices are a bit higher than normal, but you are paying for the ambiance. We specifically went here for the restaurant. The wedge salad was fresh and good presentation. However I got the coconut shrimp and it tasted like something I could get at Aldi out of a box. My husband got the fish and chips and the fish was just falling apart. He has had fish and chips many times and said that never happens if its fresh. Drinks were good but thats about it. All overpriced for what you get. I don't mind paying if its good but spare yourself the high bill and go to Aldi and pick up your shrimp in a box there. read more

Very spacious outdoor restaurant on the lake that is dog friendly. Friendly & fast service. The voodoo juice was pretty weak for $18 (especially compared to other local places on lake Lanier for the exact same drink). The calamari was tender. The fish & chips was a decent size portion and good. The clam chowder was a little runny with more potatoes and celery than clam. We would come back and give them another try to make a better drink. This is the SPOT on Lake Lanier. Has more of a locals vibe and less corporate than nearby Margaritaville. They have live music almost every night over the summer. You'll feel like you've been transplanted to a tiki bar somewhere more remote. They have a great selection of frozen drinks, delicious food (loved the mussels with chorizo and the peel'n'eat shrimp).
