Hard to find a catfish joint these days, much less a great catfish joint. A little slice of southern fried heaven. We've been twice and will be back this week to try the flounder. Catfish is good and cooked perfectly, shrimp are fantastic, chicken tenders (real ones, not frozen strips) are juicy and not overcooked, and hush puppies are just right. Nice folks serving great food for a reasonable price. What more could you want?

New to this location, Brookton Catfish School obviously has a large fan base based on the amount of social media traffic around it's opening. In fact, I'm amazed I'm the first Yelp review. Despite the hype, I wasn't that impressed. It was good, just not great. Perhaps they need to get settled in a bit more. I know they were short staffed because it took a while for something simple like ice to be refilled in the drink machine. The catfish was tender and flaky but they serve in these little paper "boats". That means they dumped the fried fish right on top of the coleslaw which soaked into the batter on the bottom rendering it soggy. Perhaps we should have bought a bucket instead of a basket. The shrimp were tasty and tender but most of the batter fell off as a result of being in contact with the wet coleslaw. My wife and I both thought the batter, while just the right mix of corn and flower, was a bit salty. You didn't notice it as much on the fish as on the shrimp. Most of the folks eating in Brookton were of a certain age where we watch our blood pressure. The slaw and French fries were good although I couldn't taste any difference between the jalapeno slaw and the regular slaw. Perhaps they got our order wrong and we had regular slaw on both orders. Haven't tried the trout or the oysters yet. We'll go back and try those. But I have to say, based on my first visit, I prefer Atlanta Highway Seafood or even Gainesville Sea Food for the use of real plates which keeps they food separate, and the wider variety of menu items.

My daughter and I shared the bucket of crab legs & they were some of the best we have had in a long time while eating out vs home.

The food is excellent, and the service even more top notch. Both owners are there every time we go, and support their staff in a very positive manner and chip in wherever is needed. Sanctuary has been so awsome, and the seasonal changes of the menu provide such a quality variety, we find it hard to want to try other places now. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

We came in on a Saturday night as a party of two with no reservation, and they were kind enough to…read moreseat us. Our waiter was pleasant, attentive, and genuinely tried -- so none of this reflects on him. We tip regularly, and we still did, because the issues we experienced felt more like management and kitchen pacing, not server error. The biggest problem was the timing of the food, and it was honestly awful. Our soups and appetizer came out almost at the same time, which I could have overlooked -- but then the entrée was dropped on the table immediately after the soup, with no pacing at all. It wasn't even our waiter bringing the food; it was other staff members just setting plates down without checking where we were in the meal. Because my entrée was seafood, it cooled down quickly while I tried to finish the earlier courses. Then the scallops came out undercooked, partially clear in the center. When I mentioned it, the waiter said it's a common complaint because they don't cook them long or they fall apart. He took them back, and they came out more cooked -- still not great, but at least edible. The dish itself (with black bean hummus, corn, and avocado) wasn't worth the price. The corn tasted like cold canned corn, and overall the entrée just didn't feel special. My husband had the spinach, chicken, and bacon salad and enjoyed it. Both soups -- tomato basil and butternut squash -- were delicious. The brie rosemary dip was just okay. There were a few flies around the table, which was annoying, and the inside is a bit dark, so more lighting would help. I can see myself coming back to try more soups, salads, appetizers, and burgers here, but I'll avoid the dinner entrées unless reviews become more consistently positive. There's definitely room for improvement, especially with pacing and kitchen execution.

Had a couple of cocktails, an appetizer, a meal, dessert and then coffee.!! It's been a few months, but if I remember right, the bill was right about $120 for two people! Everything was delicious. The cocktails were fabulous. I had a Mojito with fresh mint.! It is a seafood restaurant. I'm allergic to seafood and they flagged my meal and they informed me they cook their seafood in a separate oil ! Anything breaded and fried that's not seafood goes into a clean oil fryer!!! That alone is impressive enough to tell you to go go go! The balcony is on the second floor, it overlooks the historic part of the town of Dahlonega. The weather was amazing It was very pleasant.. The inside seating had typical seafood restaurant decor like fish on the wall and netting and starfish . Nautical themes throughout with port windows and ropes. I have to tell you it's a restaurant I would've never picked myself, but it was my friend's birthday and I insisted she pick the restaurant and it was such a happy surprise. I will definitely return. I would bring my husband and he would enjoy the seafood and I can enjoy my non-seafood dinner knowing I wouldn't accidentally be poisoned! lol the struggle is real at most restaurants, but not at this place! Trust me very impressive.!
