This is the only Trader Joe's in Redding and it's exactly what you'd hope for your classic Trader Joe's experience. It's conveniently located on Hilltop and Browning, with a big parking lot that makes shopping stress-free (never an issue finding a spot). Right now, since it's September, they already have all the fall essentials: pumpkins, pumpkin sugar cookie dough, pumpkin brioche twist, pumpkin body butter (my fave), those little cinnamon-scented brooms, and so many cozy seasonal favorites. I love that they stay ahead of the season! The produce is always fresh and high quality, they still had those amazing cotton candy grapes that are so sweet and delicious. The wine selection is another huge plus, you really can't beat picking up a bottle for $4 or $5 that actually tastes great. The employees are always friendly and helpful, which makes shopping here even better. Whenever I'm in Redding, I love stopping by this Trader Joe's. Between the great products, unbeatable prices, and seasonal finds, it never disappoints. read more

The product I'm so happy about here at Trader Joe's may be a seasonal item, but I got it awhile ago and just tried it now. It's, I think for St. Patty's day, but I'd eat this year round! It's Trader Joe's Beer Bread mix. It sell for around $3.00 and all you add is beer and butter! This bread cooked up super easy and tossed in the oven and came out wonderful. I added an IPA 12 oz of beer. It's a pretty dense bread and a little rich with 1/2 a stick of butter added before baking. But OMG, is this good! It's best sliced warm out of the oven and I added more butter spread over the slice with some Trader Joe's honey slightly drizzled on it .... OH WOW, just OMG is this good! Pretty much great in every way! The store is always very clean, products super fresh, and affordable prices. I love coming here every couple of weeks to see what new items they have. The service is stellar too! The employees are always so friendly and there are rarely any lines at checkout. Something changed sadly..For many years I was customer of this store and spent around $8000 every year. Today I brought to return 2 chicken noodles cans and 2 lentils soups cans because something changed in the flavour. Manager was not glad about my return of $15. She also refused exchange of $5 dogs treat. It just freeze-dried treat half of the package on the bottom mostly crumbs not pieces and she said it's okay you can sprinkle it on the dog's food anyway. When I said that my dog laughs Square pieces not little cramps she refused it anyway. She also said that it's not good to return stuff because store losing money on that. I'm sorry but it's not my business who losing their money and onwards they lose it. A flavor change I can return it back. If half of the dog treats package mostly crumbs I can exchange it. When I tried to say that I spending around $8,000 every year in their store looks like nobody cares about that. This store is still very good and most people who work there are fantastic people and very friendly especially those people who stay there for many years. But new managers are terrible I'm sorry saying that. They also was not happy when one day I came to the store with my little chihuahua and that situation insulted me because most stores I mean most trader Joe stores in California in San Diego or Los Angeles are absolutely dog friendly. I will continue to be customer as a store because there is no alternative but all the situation just insulted me today about $15 return when you spend a thousands of dollars. read more

I like Trader Joe's as their prices are very reasonable. I went in today to buy some eggs and they actually had them in stock at a fair price. While I was there, I bought a package of Kung Pao Chicken and it was delightful. It competes with expensive restaurant food. I was surprised by how good it tasted. It says servings for four, but I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I always like going to their store as it has a nice atmosphere and the service is always very good. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite Trader Joe's locations! All of the staff that work here are super kind. That is definitely one of the most important things about any store that you're going to. Honestly any business. How kind and knowledgeable and helpful are the staff. That is definitely one of the things that I focus on. And this location definitely gets an A+ in that department. Anything that we needed it was accommodated and that was always something that makes things a lot easier for what it is that we're trying to do. Plus all the items were exactly where they needed to be. There's no confusion when you needed to collect the items that you wanted because they were in the exact aisle that the sign above the aisle stated This definitely may seem like a minute detail but trust me when you go to a store and it is not prevalent it definitely makes things a whole lot more difficult. I love Trader Joe's...usually. The store was large and inviting. Then you step into the store and notice the complete disregard for masks. Not just by the customers, but also the staff. I counted five staff members wearing masks--they were outnumbered by their fellow non-masked peers. At a time when the virus is getting worse, with all the literature and scientific evidence proving the importance of masks...WOW. Well I just hope I didn't pick up a bag of delta while I was in there. read more

Only problem with Trader Joe's is not enough locations. Auburn, CA needs a Trader Joe's so I can go more often. I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I visit the Roseville store. When we travel with our RV, I always look for Trader Joe's when we need supplies because of good fresh produce and lovely healthy food. I always find fun surprises when I go in to check off the grocery list and come away with twice as much as what I needed, but in a very good way. This location of Trader Joe's is below average to put it nicely. None of the produce there was good or fresh, the service wasn't any better. The cashier did not greet me at all, he didn't even bat an eye. However, he had a super long conversation with the person in front of me. Though in many ways Trader Joes is so good (everyone working there is excellent, kind, and so helpful) the continued use of so much plastic is incredibly disturbing and shows a complete lack of understanding about what is needed right now for a sustainable community and world. I couldn't buy grapes and other produce because of the huge one time use plastic container it came in. So sad that the store doesn't see the irony that in so many ways they are targeting the values of people that also care about nature, the health of other people, and the planet - and trying to sell plastic so much to them. My husband is staying up here during the winter months and I must say this is the best stocked TJ I've ever been in I couldn't believe how much more of a verity of food this TJ has and the different cookies oh so yummy. The gentlemen at the checkout was very nice I wish I could remember his name he had black hair and tall one of the middle registers he might of had a accent maybe but very nice young man. There's two stores in Fresno, Ca where I shop and they don't a lot of the yummy items as this store has the people here in Redding are lucky. Trader Joe's in Redding is my favorite grocery store. I love that they carry good quality produce, meats, and cheeses. My Kids love the TJ's cereals, and the dunking oatmeal cookies. I like the wine selection and the prices for the wines. It's nice to go to a store where the clerk actually talks to you and bags your groceries. I get sick of these "self" checkout lines popping up everywhere, the food costs the same whether they scan and bag it, or I have to. TJ's doesn't have any of that crap, and the people that work there seem to enjoy their jobs. I hope that they continue their stance of keeping organic products in the store, as I want to make sure that my family is not eating gmo's or chemical tainted food. I am a fan. read more

I love most things at Trader Joe's. Last week I purchased a bag of organic yams and they were all bad or rotten. Threw the whole bag away. This week I purchased a bag of organic potatoes. I checked the best I could to make sure they were fresh. Now I have to throw away all but three potatoes in the bag. I wish I could buy my produce there but that's too much money to throw away. I have seen how you get treated there when you bring anything back and have experienced it myself. I will only be shopping there occasionally from now on and not for produce. read more

My most recent visit to Trader Joe's was to grab some quick dinner sides and snacks with some pals. We picked up some grilled chicken, Caesar salad kits, some lactose free vanilla coffee creamer, cookie butter ice cream, and a tub of dark chocolate peanut butter cups (must try!). I love how these stores are set up. You're always met with their selection of fresh flowers upon entering, and they had particularly beautiful peonies on my last visit. It's such a happy place to me and I love that the products aren't filled with junk. read more

I have been shopping here for 5 years, and never have any negative experience. Everyone working here is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The place is always clean. The products are nice with reasonable prices. Especially, Trader Joe's has the freshest, prettiest, and most unique flower selections in town. For the last several months even after I brought it to the attention of management, I have bought food that was expired. Gosh, I never thought I would triple check my purchases at TJ's. I'm in Redding frequently and was elated to learn there was a TJ's in town!!! Needed to pick up lunch and dinner before my trek down the 5, I was greeted in typical cal TJ's fashion, by the crew members (staff) as I entered the store. I picked up the veggie hummus wrap, veggie and flaxseed tortilla chips, harvest grain salad and a banana. The wrap has great potential, but there was too much hummus and not enough veggies. I get why the veggies are julienned and mixed into the hummus; larger cut veggies would break down faster and contain more water which would turn the flour wrap to near mush. However a different mix of veggies to hummus would have done it for me, nonetheless good flavor. I literally had to put the chips back in the grocery bag, to keep me out of them. Crunchy, fresh, lightly salted, and the veggie flavors (mildly) come through perfectly. Situated in a plaza near Shasta Mall with ample parking. Holiday Market and now Trader's will be my staples when in town. read more

This is the friendliest Trader Joe's I've ever been to! I picked up one of the small yellow watermelons and BJ my cashier said that they were sweet. I said I was looking forward to trying it. I happened to mention that my last watermelon was grainy and not that sweet, and he said, "really? Well we've got to do something about that" and gave me the yellow one on the house! I'm temporarily yanking a star, Goddamnit. This here's a protest song. I buy into the original philosophy of Trader Joe's -- the notion that someone on a teacher's salary ought to be able to afford food that was at one time considered "gourmet" or "Continental" and thus reserved for the relatively affluent. I like that you can get a variety of really amazing warm-weather varietal wines from the south of Italy for $5 a bottle if you're willing to veer away from varietals that are familiar faces. I'll avert my gaze from the rumors that TJ's can be downright nasty about grinding down food producers to get rock-bottom wholesale prices. But I'm jerking a star on account of one particular gripe that I need to get off of my chest: At best, TJ's provided C- quality control on it's products. More than once I've purchased meat from TJ's, taken it home, punctured the shrink-wrap, and released The Nasty-ass Funk into my kitchen's airspace. And I'm done buying salsa at TJ's -- it's fizzy with fermentation every other time you buy it, and it's not worth the coin flip. Maybe those are not corporate QC issues. Those might be local QC issues, I've rationalized. But, see, coffee is kind of a big deal to me. I prefer dark roasts, and I prefer beans grown in Sumatra and neighboring lands for their rich, weighty, earthy, robust flavors. You can keep anything described as "bright" or "fruity" -- Hawaiian coffee tastes like aluminum foil to me. When I open a fresh container of coffee, I want to see dark, fat, oily beans, and I want to smell toasted tropical humus. We go through so much coffee that I usually buy two containers of Dark Sumatra at a time, and it never used to disappoint. But the last two canisters I've opened have contained lightly burnished, dry, small, immature-looking beans. Indistinguishable in any way from cheap, crappy Columbian beans.....which I suspect they might be. It's as if some TJ's coffee broker is betting that its customers are purchasing labels, and are too effing dumb to notice the difference regarding whatever they stuff inside the packaging. I'm just telling you, TJ's........I call bullshit on whatever you're currently trying to pass off as "Dark Sumatra." Shit's barely distinguishable from a can of oak wood shavings. read more
