It's safe to say we took it to the max and maximized our shopping power at FoodMaxx. This is the kind of grocery store where you can find everything you need, from name brands to off brands, and you can get a full load of relatively quality groceries at a good price. We stopped in to boy some dinner and snack supplies before heading out on to Shasta Lake. What we discovered was a giant store with aisles and aisles of goodies. Getting the best of any particular offering requires some discretion. I would avoid some of the bargain meats and off-brands, for example, but they have surprisingly good produce and a massive selection of dry goods. Keep it up FoodMaxx. Aside from the multiple verified health code violations, their customer service is atrocious. No manager in store to handle a disgruntled cashier who was acting out of pocket due to technical difficulties in his work station. The transaction froze while processing my debit card. It charged my account twice - and wasn't refunded for over a week - yet showed that the payment hadn't been processed. The cashier, Billy, refused to suspend the purchase, and refused to allow me to remove the groceries from the bagging area. Instead, he demanded that all of the customers in his line wait while I go retrieve cash (the store does not have an ATM, so I was told to go to a bank). Seriously. I tried to find a manager to help, but there wasn't one. The employee standing at the front who I asked for help just shrugged and said, "that's Billy's area." All the people in line were getting impatient and giving me the irritated stares and tapping feet. I ended up completely flustered and basically ran out, leaving my expensive winter jacket behind on my shopping cart. When I arrived at the bank, the total price for the groceries had been removed from my account not once but twice, and I did not have enough left to pay a third time. Because there was no manager to help, I went home. I returned the next day, no jacket. The next day, no jacket. That went on for weeks, and then months. Besides all of this, their food sucks (though I suppose we do get what we pay for in nearly all cases). Grocery Outlet is a good alternative, followed by Winco. Both have discounted pricing comparable to Food Maxx - but with a customer friendly structure that justifies choosing their business over competitors. read more

They have a very nice and clean environment, good prices and helpful employees, but I would like to make a compliment, in special, to the employee JEFF, from the dairy department. I went in tonight to get flowers and a bottle of alcohol and when I got in when I got up to the cash register the cashier was very rude and continually asked me questions about my ID as if it was fake I then showed him my credit cards to try and prove that it was mine and he proceeded to harass me at first I thought he was kidding but then it started to make me frustrated I am very unhappy I have been a long time shopper at FoodMaxx for many years normally I love the service and the employees are great but this cashier(a short Hispanic man with a short buzz cut and mustache) ruined my shopping experience and was very rude and makes me never want to spend another dime there. read more

While processing the groceries the clerk named Andrew (he wasn't wearing a name tag but said his name was Andrew) started ringing up my groceries without realizing they were not the customers. He said he thought it was rude that there was no separation bar there. I told him the groceries were 6 feet apart on the conveyer belt. After he scanned the lady in fronts groceries he kept pushing the converter button. I told him I thought he was rude for calling his customers names. He proceeded to repeat himself. At that point the lady in front looked up at him while was still talking and said she thought he was rude. She was a sweet lady I wish I got her name and number. I was thankful for this store being open 24 hours and on my route home when I lived here and worked night shift, so I might be a little biased. It's clean, the employees are nice, prices are great and the produce is hard to beat. [They even had samples the other day, "try all the flavors if you want!" she offered. Five kinds of Oreos? Birthday cake batter? Mint? When did this happen to the cookie world? Believe you me, I ate them all, no shame. After a jet-lagged morning at church and no breakfast it was a beautiful thing.] Here is one issue. Navigation used to be more clear with hanging signs that ran perpendicular the the aisles. These signs had a lot on them, but were helpful because it might save a useless trip down a VERY long aisle. Now there are signs offering minimal help that run parallel, kind of sticking out of the end caps. There were just a few general words on each that kind of left it up to you to decide what category your target item fell under. Poor decision to switch over to these things and we walked in a couple circles. So I appreciate the snacks the store provided along the way. Yeah, there was a homeless person out front down at the end of the cart round up place, but be a decent human and deal with it. Plus it's Redding, so it's nothing new. read more

I came in here with my wife which I am 21 to buy a bottle of tequila the register clerk asked us both for our ids I explained to her that this was my wife she's not 21 she drove me here and the clerk snatches the bottleoff the belt and says I can't sell to you california law with a rude attitude and so I said okay well can I talk to your manager the manager comes out and has the same rude ass attitude like I'm over here trying to buy a bottle for a bunch of kids mind you I go into stores all the time with my wife never once have I ran into this situation until here it also sounds to me like they are trying to encourage drinking and driving they really have a problem with discriminating against young people like what if that was my little sister or my kid but because my wife's close to the same age makes anything different sorry but I will never shop here again read more

My wife and I came Into the store after shopping at another establishment. We did our shopping for a few items. Proceeded to the register and paid for our groceries! My wife went back to look for a certain soda she had forgotten. Which they didn't have! We both proceeded to leave and was stopped by a smart guy employee My wife was then acussed of stealing which our items had been purchased at another store! He straight grabbed a bottle of lotion out of her purse and asked what that was??? Then grabbed the candy she had in her purse and said she had stolen it! I asked to see the video tape and was told to shut up!! We provided the receipt that they hadn't been stolen!! With no apologies and nothing but attitude! Who the hell has a right to just grab anything out of a women's purse!!! The manager just stood there and didn't say a word! This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had anywhere! I called the store immediately after to talk to a manager and was blown off!! I left my name and number and expect to hear for the store manager! Which most likely won't happen either!!! I noticed a dog locked in a truck today 94 degrees outside and went in to have clerks announce that the owner needed to attend to it. I had called animal control but also knew this would be faster. The manager said he wouldn't announce it on speaker as it might cause problems. Safeway announces it immediately and says the owner better attend to animal immediately. Some items here are cheaper than winco, some more expensive. Winco does have a bigger variety of things, e.g. you can scoop the amount of something you want (spices, cake mix, nuts, etc) and buy it by the pound. This place beats Winco in acceptable forms of payment because Foodmaxx takes credit cards. Winco is only cash or debit, and I'm a card person. read more

Love this store. Any time I go to a different store I'm mad at myself for not going to FoodMaxx. They are always super nice at foodmaxx. I have two little kiddos, one time I was trying to handle them and put my groceries in my trunk. Not your high end store but they do have good prices on some things. I generally find that the produce here is decent quality and they have some really good sales. Try the Mary's salad dressing--ginger sesame is very good. Winco is the other store that is priced comparably but has more selection. read more

A few days ago, I went to Food Max to pick up a birthday cake for my mother. I had called in ahead of time to make sure they would still be open. After arriving, I waited for 10 minutes in the bakery section before finding an employee to find someone to help me.
