I made it to this Walmart. I was thinking that I could figure out which blades would fit my car and that watching a video on how to change wipers might help me. While I was already having a hard time figuring out which wipers I should get, I hear a man say, "Can I help you with anything?" Although the Automotive Service area was closed, Greg the manager of the auto department was still there. When he found out my dilemma he not only found out which wipers blades I needed, but he was able to fit the correct connector that would work with my car. He actually replaced my blades in the rain using a pen light tucked under his chin. Manager Greg put me at ease immediately and just had a very warm and happy presence as if a an actual angel had been sent to help me. I kept thinking that he must be a joy to work with. I really appreciate what Greg did for me. I've been recently widowed and having to do or deal with many things for the first time. Thus time Greg was there right before the anxiety almost started. Please give Greg a big thank you from me. He brightened what had turned into a gloomy day. He came to the rescue.

The thing is, locals know that Huntsville is a bit of retail wasteland. Always has been. There have been complaints about a lack of good stores and decent restaurants as long as I can remember. Westhill mall is an ambitious and failed attempt to correct that. As far as it being part of a "country hell". I grew up here and returned after living in some of the greatest cities in the world. I know how good and bad Huntsville is. The lack of a 'real' mall doesn't even register on my radar. I can't imagine true mall culture in this town. Just thinking about a Hot Topic in Huntsville makes me laugh. West Hill mall does make a good place to get in a little light walking in the middle of our 100 degree summers. In fact, a lot of people use it for that instead of driving 15 miles out of town to New Waverly, or, for that matter, going to the public walking tracks in town, or the multiple gyms, the large state park, the public swimming pool, or the state of the art university facilities. Older people, in particular, prefer West Hill mall for their exercise. I am not claiming West Hill Mall is adequate by 'mall' standards, but if you come to Huntsville expecting the same retail amenities as a large city or a wealthy suburb like the Woodlands, you are highly delusional and set up for disappointment. And, I will stand on your LA or SF coffee table in my boots to tell you so (although I do love SF).
