The frame does look good but do not expect to get anything fair if you go with Groupon. This shop has no price tags attached to the frames so the seller ended up charging whatever amount he felt like after I stepped in the shop. My Groupon was claimed to be worth $200 but for a frame that requires less than one hour's work I ended up paying an extra $100 plus in the end. Had I known this is the case, I would definitely not choose it at all, not to mention driving all the way from outside of town. I get it that the owner wants to use Groupon as a marketing channel but the way it is used is quite dishonest. read more

My fiancé and I came here to frame a large oil painting we purchased while in NY. We brought it to another framer in Arlington first for a price estimate and they came back with a quote of $900...that's a no go for us. I did some research online and came across TR framing so we thought we'd stop in to see what they had to offer. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and were helped right away. We brought the painting with us and told the owner what type of frame and color we were looking for, there's a large selection. Once we narrowed it down to two we asked the owner his opinion and he actually told us to go with the lower priced of the two options, which I appreciated. The initial quote came close to $380 and with our 40% off coupon I found online the total frame job came to $225. So to recap, the first framer quoted us at $900 and TR Framer was able to do the same job for $225. I'm not sure what these other yelpers are expecting framing to cost, but it's very clear that TR framers is extremely reasonable compared to other companies. Also they were upfront for the cost of every frame we chose, you just have to ask for the quote before making your decision. This company has been in business for 19 years so they're clearly doing something right. We'll certainly be back! read more

What. Nonsense. If my experience is any indication, you're better off sending your money to that random guy from Nairobi who spammed your Gmail, because then at least you wouldn't expect anything. I bought a Groupon for this place, $49 for $200 worth of framing. I took in a painting roughly the size of a boogie board and a 5" x 7" print. The associate came over to me with exasperation, presumably because I came in close to closing time. We first discussed framing my big painting and settled on an ornate 3"-ish frame. That, with labor, was quoted at $309. Then I asked about the little print. With 1 1/2" matting -- which he measured for -- a 3/4"-ish frame, standard glass and labor, this was to cost me $180. That total is already really high -- but it was close to Christmas time, smack in the middle of Holiday Huckster Season, and my Groupon covered it, so I was willing to just go along. At this point, with the price laid bare, I mentioned that I in fact had such a Groupon, which was my fatal, rookie mistake. I settled on a color for the matting, and then he said that with matting factored in, the price would come to $230. Important to note: three minutes before, pre-Groupon, matting had been factored in. When I pointed out that he had already quoted a price included matting, he said, oh right, my bad; this ole memory of mine, you know? And when I pointed out how inflated the price was in any case, he scoffed that "custom framing is expensive." I've had similar custom jobs done in Arlington for $70, $80 on three separate occasions. Five stars for customer service, scandal-maker. Needless to say, I left and wrote Groupon for a refund. Save your money and take it to a place like K.H. Framing, if you're still in the mood to patronize anyone. They've given me excellent service before, which I obviously didn't fully appreciate until now. read more

Great job framing and helping me choose the best frame and matte color. I brought over some art work and they had the framing done 2 days earlier than promised. The glass is very high quality , they sealed the back of the frame (prevents insects from getting in), they put small felt dots on the bottom corners (which prevents the wall from being marked). I got a Living Social Deal for this place and hadt two paintings framed. Yes, it was quite expensive to have my two paintings done; however, I LOVED the end results. It came out even better than I could have imagined and I was very happy with the work. The owner even carried the larger of the two paintings out to the car for me. I never received any attitude from either of the gentleman working there and was not rushed when selecting the framing materials and matte. I was also shown the cheaper of my options and given a price quote before making my final decision. I'm glad I didn't look them up on Yelp until after I went because I'm truly happy with my decision to have my artwork framed there. read more

Used a groupon and got screwed on the price as well. Which I wouldn't have cared about if the work was quality. I picked up my framing job & it looked ok. I had it wrapped up because I was moving. It went with all my other pictures into temperature controlled storage. Fast forward a year for my move and giving birth to twins (I was a little busy), I get ready to hang it & the matting is warped. The news paper article is coming off the backing. I call & talk to Kalvin. He says send him pictures, he'll pay for me to ship it back & they'll fix it. I e-mail. Crickets. It took me 3 months to get someone on the phone. Victor got on the phone because he thought I was someone else who wanted to place an order. I explained the story. He tells me I can drive to VA with my 3 small children and he'll fix it. I said I can't do that. He says its not his fault I moved across the country (uh, a 5 hour drive???). Then I asked if he'd work with me with the shipping. He says no. I say I'll dispute the charges, he says that's stealing his hard earned money. I guess the money I used to pay for too much for this terrible workmanship on a very sentimental news paper clipping that's over 20 years old & could now be ruined wasn't hard earned. Like so many others, I bought a LivingSocial deal to get my graduate degree framed before reading the reviews of this place -- and that was a costly mistake. It is rare that I feel so cheated and taken advantage off, but after leaving the store and calling around I found that the price was almost triple what I would have paid somewhere else. I had her college, grad school, and my sons college done in Germantown MD last year all 3 for about $450. When I questioned the high price the owner replied we have had a 60% increase in the past year. I Stopped by Micheal's on my way home and for $31.50 including tax I have 2 fairly nice framed certificates. Granted they don't have the fancy matting/glass/backing...but I saved $1,050 including the Living Social that I will not use. We went to the place and the staff there was so nice and accommodating. Victor worked with us for awhile trying to find the right frame for our paintings. One thing I love about this establishment that you do not get at other establishments, they work with you. If you really want a particular frame they will work out a price with you. They give very good service and they deliver!!! (we did not get our paintings delivered, but they do deliver paintings, especially over-sized paintings...it is conveniently located about 10 mins from I 95...you will not be disappointed..i know we are not!!! read more

I used a HomeRun coupon for a very simple framing project, and they did a good job. Having read some of the other reviews, I did not mention the coupon until I had received a verbal estimate, of about $200 for basic framing (no matting) of a large poster (about 3' x 4'). They got the job done in just over a week. No problems in dealing with them; they were very polite. If you use them, be sure and keep your invoice or at least the invoice number, because they were unable to look up the project by customer name when I called to find out if it was ready. BTW, they're a block from Trader Joe's. Going north on GWMP, hang a right on Wythe and park on the street there or in the TJ garage if you buy stuff there too. read more

I read the rather blah reviews of this place before heading over to take use of a Amazon Local coupon, so I was rather skeptical. But I had a decent experience. Taking on another reviewer's advice, I didn't mention the coupon until I'd narrowed down what frame I wanted and got a quote, so I don't think I was overcharged. Framing is indeed expensive, and they were very polite about the coupon too, so I rather feel I did get a deal. I had a painting frames that meant a lot to me, so I wanted to spend the money to get it right. Had I gone with the most basic options it probably would have been close to my coupon value of $200, but as I got double-matting and a nice frame, it was a bit more (I paid $80 extra). Some frames were really steep though - beautiful, so worth it if you have a piece of art that would be enhanced by them ... one day I'll get frames like that too when I have art worth a million bucks. :) For those people not wanting to pay extra, ask to break down how much the mattes and frames cost, and you can probably get the cheapest frame and matte for a reasonable price - they were transparent with me about telling me which frames cost more and less. And they really helped me pick out a great option for my budget! For people without a coupon... well, I do think prices are a bit steep. Maybe negotiate? Or get a coupon. read more

Be very careful with these guys. You do not always get what you ordered, as happened to me today. I picked up a canvas photo of my grandchild. They had put it in a frame I did not order. They took it upon themselves to remove the canvas and put it on another stretcher so it would fit into the wrong frame. They told me the framer thought it was odd, but no one called me, a repeat customer, to ask. About $300 for a botched job on a modest sized picture. Not worth it...far from it. read more

To be honest....I think that when you come with a coupon, you can EXPECT that they will make sure the total does NOT cover the entire cost. I know this from going to other framing stores with deals and getting the whole "upcharge" thing everyone is complaining about. But I think that the AMOUNT extra you are charged depends on who helps you. I give this place 4 stars because when I had the guy helping me price out 4 different options, there were some that were "mostly" covered by my living social deal, and others that weren't, and he gave the opinion that the cheaper of the 4 options was the best. I'm not sure that the Groupons and Livingsocial deals actually make the price cheaper, and I can see that other reviewers feel the same way. But I was very happy with the result. TR Framing did a great job framing some foreign currency (bills and coins) I brought back from my travels. Staff was friendly, understanding, and helpful in picking out layouts and colors that would look best. The framing took about two weeks to complete, and I am very happy with their work. Stay away from this place. Like many of the people that have reviewed this place, I found it by way of Groupon. The only reason I was inclined to use it was because I had an oddly shaped photo that I wanted framed and couldn't find a frame anywhere. I went in and the groupon was for a value of up to $200. They quoted me a price of $290 so I had to pay $90 out of pocket. Kind of ridiculous, but they seemed nice and helpful so I went ahead and made the purchase. The owner, Victor told me that I could come back in two weeks and pick it up. So two weeks later I went to pick up the frame and they had used the wrong color frame. He apologized and said they would fix it and I could pick it up in a week. A week later I go back and guess what? It is still in the exact same frame. He apologizes once again and says he will fix it and deliver it to me on Presidents Day monday. I am very annoyed at this point, but what can I do? So Monday rolls around, no word, Tuesday, no word. I finally call today and Victor casually says oh yeah it's here, we can deliver it tomorrow. I ask for a partial refund or some type of compensation and he says they never do refunds. Like most other reviewers I bought a groupon. (actually I bought two) I was quoted a much higher price than it should have been. It ended up being what I would have paid if I didn't have a groupon. I went with it because I am a procrastinator and figured I would get a refund on my second groupon. When I picked up my framing I brought something else that I got priced at another store just to see what he would quote me. First, the framing that was done had a different color mat and frame than what I asked for! But it did look really good. The quoted price for the second piece was twice what it should have been, but he offered me half off because of the problem with the other piece, but when I brought out my groupon he said only one discount at a time, I said either you take the groupon and I don't owe anything or I'll go somewhere else. Overpriced. A rip off. Not to mention an exceptionally rude owner and his abrasive assistant (the guy - not the woman who really is sweet). I had a living social coupon - for up to $200. Now going in I knew what I wanted framed would prob. be a couple of hundred dollars more and the 200 would make a nice dent in that. Imagine my surprise when without asking me the final quote came to $900 and with the coupon 700. Come to find out they're charging me for using the most expensive frame and double museum glass of some sort - again not what I asked for. Then began the negotiation of the matte - I asked specifically for a 1/2 inch matte - and they spent all their time trying to convince me to go higher. Not to mention the first quote the matte was included in the coupon and they changed their story to say it wasn't. Anyway.. much negotiation later it was reduced to me paying 395 out of pocket for the framing. I had also brought another framed piece of art with me and all I needed was the print to be switched out recognizing it would take them replacing the paper backing on the back of the print/frame - no new frame, now new hanging wire, no new mat, no new glass. I was charged 120 for just that. I opted to leave the other two for a different time I was told I would be called to pick up my item.. nonetheless I called a few times and the owner boorishly told me they would call. Come the due date and no call. I had to call yet again and their lovely asst. (really a lovely shy woman) answered and said yes the item was ready had been for a week and I could come get it. Walked in and item was stacked and badly stored, the print wasn't stretched all the way - they gave me some song and dance on how that sort of art could not per perfectly stretched not to mention a nick on the frame. I'm so done with these guys and their overpriced excuses. I took it to another frame shop in DC and for literally 40 bucks they fixed the issues - and stretched the print properly. As for the two other prints that I needed switched out in frames and glass and matte that I already had? 50 bucks and done on the spot. For the value and the price this place is a rip off not to mention severely lacking in customer service with boorish and exceptionally entitled and rude staff. Stay away. read more

I had a great experience with my Living Social deals at this establishment. Not sure if these other reviewers EVER framed anything or find anything particularly pleasant in life, but this place is great. The worse you can say is that they are compact and keep too many finished pieces stacked in your walking space. Framing is pricey and with their deals, it is more palatable. But if you do not want a great frame, then go to Ikea. The whole store was engaging and helpful with ideas. I was able to make a great decision and get a great deal. I also took something in on a Tuesday for my husband's 40th birthday gift just two days later. And they made that deadline too!
