A little pricey for just Ok food and they're not really organized and don't communicate well with their catering.

First, don't expect ferns, a 3 piece combo with bass, sax and piano, nor dainty amuse-bouche served…read morewith your artisanal, local-brewed Belgian mango-passionfruit Lambic. But you knew that when you drove up to this unprepossessing cafe-bar that looks like a former 50's frozen custard stand turned into biker bar. Which, it probably is. The gals under Valerie's management fly at light speed out of the kitchen, serving Yuengling lager on tap (yeah!) and the usual Bud offering as well as hot and cold sandwiches, Boardwalk fries, nachos and all the things that your doctor and dietician say "not to." There is a pinball machine (featuring Harley Davidson backbox), several other electronic games, one of which has a customized "joke" seat (toilet seat nailed to a wooden captains chair, along with a handy roll and dispenser on the back. Quaint! But don't get any dumb ideas!) Tables are comfy or you can sit at the bar. No booths. The steak sandwiches are well-known in these part and taste good; too good. There is one that is about as long as Jeremy Lin's arm. Seriously. It's huge. In case you can't imagine that, lacquered (I hope) rolls are hanging near the cash register so you can estimate roll length versus appetite strength. The bun has recently exceeded the meat content but their prices have stayed steady so you know what's happening. We all have to manage somehow. I'm not sorry as the flavor is good and I don't need so much saturated fat in any case. I do not fault them. The crowd is what you'd call "eclectic" or "local" and this is not a dainty boite to take a first date unless you already know he or she is a fan of local, very local bars. For local this is. Personally, I always love such places and our state has some of the better locals-only spots that are entirely enjoyable and beat a chain restaurant any day of the week. Valerie's is clean. It smells ONLY of beer, which I can't say about some other places I've visited. No cigarette smoke as our state has gone no-indoor-plumbing, I mean, indoor smoking.

After a long day hanging out with a buddy of mine, popped in here solo to grab a drink and check…read moreout a cheesesteak that had some pretty good reviews online. I will say the bartender was very nice and the drinks were solid. The cheesesteak unfortunately was not. Perhaps it was good for this area, but for someone who has tried 20+ from spots in Philly and surrounding areas, it was nowhere near the conversation. Meat was a bit dry, not enough cheese, and the bread was too soft so if there was more cheese, it would have ripped right through the bread. Loved the place, would like to go back and try other foods and hang out for karaoke again, but i'd pass on the cheesesteak next time around.

A super cute little gem of a place located in the heart of Dover. Super quaint and tucked away with…read moreplenty of on street parking, as well as a parking lot in the back. Tons of seating! Lots of intentional planning went into this design. There's an indoor bar, dining room, outside seating of all kind (under tent & not), as well as a bar that has garage doors that can open to the outside. There's corn hole and other things to do. This place is a vibe with a German touch! Plenty of beers on tap, as well as some clever cocktails! They even have beer cocktails that feature their drafts. Service was exceptional! We sat at the indoor bar as it was raining. Stephanie was terrific. Very attentive and friendly. Ordered two drinks...Drunk in Love (delicious), and Beerloma (delicious). Highly recommend both of these. They had lots of other seasonal options as well that sounded delightful. Nice to see a pub theme place also craft some great drinks for the non beer drinkers. We ordered the burger on a pretzel bun and the German Street Diner. Both absolutely delicious!!! Impressive that we have both food and drink on point! No notes. The fries are great too. Don't leave without the cinnamon and sugar pretzel bites with the Carmel and white icing dipping sauce! We got out to go. Don't leave without them. Awesome!!! Such a terrific find. Wish we lived closer. Well worth the stop! Not far off of Rt 1 on way to beach too! Don't skip this place! It's amazing.

Loved the concept and setting. The beverages came out fast and they were nice and cold. My wife had…read morea Strawberry Mimosa and I had a .5L Warsteiner German Pilsner. Both were tasty. The food was ok to sub sub par. My wife had the bratwurst sandwich and she enjoyed it very much. I had the schnitzel sandwich with a German Potato Salad side substituted for the fries. Well, I didn't care for the puddle of liquid that completely soaked the bottom of the sandwich bun - I had to pour it out onto the pan that it arrived on, and there were not enough napkins to keep my hands dry and clean. The pork schnitzel was over cooked, not pounded to make it tender, and the breading was dark brown, almost burnt. I was hungry so I ate it. To make matters worse, the potato salad was a fail fail fail. The fingerlings were good, but, like the sandwich, it was sitting in a pool of liquid. In this case it was oil. Tastless so it added nothing to the dish, and there was at least a 1/4" of it under the potatoes. To say it was unappetizing would be kind. I had to pour out the oil onto the pan. There is no excuse for a kitchen to make pair of mistakes like this. Sadly, no wait staff came by to check on us, which was probably a good thing. While the QR code thing is "cool" it cannot replace the customary service model where waitstaff takes the order, and either a runner or the waitstaff brings the meal, and checks in on the table at some point. I was taken aback that we had to include a tip before even seeing the food or the waitress. For a little background, my wife is a German citizen, but born here. I was a hospitality consultant for a few years. We both know what constitutes good food regardless of ethnicity. I have been to at least 5 beer gardens, and even more German and Swiss establishments. I have prepared many schnitzels, and many German potato salads. Aside from the oil slick the flavor was ok. It would have been better if they used a little of the bacon fat, together with some white vinegar and a little beef stock, as a dressing for the salad. This is really easy to make and hard to mess up, but somehow the kitchen didn't get it right. I didn't give it a one star rating because the beverages, the ambience, and my wife's sandwich was ok. I may come back at some point since we are often in Dover. But I will not be ordering the potato salad or the schintzel. To be fair, a second visit would have to be a game changer for me to not give a one star rating. Wishing you guys the best of luck. The place has potential but someone has to pay more attention to both the kitchen and the front of the house.
