I have been going to Touch Nails for years and get a dip manicure every three weeks. Lee is wonderful and always takes her time during my appointments, and Tina is also fantastic. Touch nails and spa is my favorite in the Grand Rapids area. I tried several out before finding them and the experience has been nothing other than positive. I have seen Max every 2-3 weeks for the past year now for dip powder and he is my favorite. I likely could go longer between appointments sine the color does not crack, but my nails are so healthy now they grow quickly. He is very meticulous in his work and always shapes my nails evenly. I don't branch out often but he was able to do a few designs for me as well. I have never had issues with fungal infections due to the cleanliness of the salon. You can tell they're talking about you, no customer service, handle you roughly, and the salon itself is DIRTY. Stained carpet, junk just sitting around. Their kids come and lay around on the chairs. I had a pedicure which was mediocre at best. While sitting in the chair, drying, I asked for a cuticle cleanup on my fingernails. She asked if I wanted a little nail repair polish since I am growing out very delicate broken nails (took off acrylics at home). She literally spent 2 minutes on my cuticles and left me there to do another pedicure across the room. I checked out without a full manicure, yet they charged me $25 plus my pedicure. I spent $63 on these services, plus I tipped 20% on Venmo. When I called back to see if I was overcharged they said no. I didn't even get my nails filed. Horrid service, scam, avoid. I went to this nail salon one time because it is near my work. I arrived at 5pm on a Friday and they close at 7:30pm. The male that did my nails informed me while doing my nails that he was trying to leave by 6pm to take his kids skating. He rushed the job, hurt me many times while filing, and did less coats of the dip powder then I've ever seen a nail tech do on me. When the filing hurt, he told me that it's because he needed to update his filing equipment? I don't know why someone would use equipment that needs to be replaced on a customer's nails but it also felt like an excuse for him rushing, because the rushing seemed to be what was hurting me. The following day, my first nail cracked but I was out of town and couldn't come back in. I've been doing dip powder for MANY years at various salons and have NEVER had one crack. Less than two weeks after my initial appointment, two more cracked AND broke my real nails underneath. All of the broken ones hurt but one of nails broke so far down that it left me in immense pain for multiple days. I returned to my regular nail salon for my dip removal. They glued my regular nail back today so that it hopefully doesn't fall completely off. He proceeded to tell me that my nails were filed so thin I need to continue being careful to avoid another break. I typically have incredibly thick and healthy nails, so this was disappointing to hear. 0/0 stars for this place and will never be returning. I counted at least 7 other staff members there socializing when I got my nails done. Touch Nail Spa was quite the busy nail salon around 5pm, and I would highly recommend making an appointment prior to arrival. One thing I love about this nail salon is the fact they are fast and efficient. They have a ton of nail colors to choose from and the dip lasted on my nails without chipping for over 3 weeks. One negative about this nail salon is that they charge for everything. I had 3 nails with a little bit of shellac left on them and they charged me to "removed nail polish". Unfortunately, I do not recommend. I have been here a few times over the past 13 years and it's never "wow-ed" me but did a decent job so I gave it a try recently since it's one of the few nail places open on Sundays. I asked for shellac on my fingernails. I was not impressed at all by the cleanliness of the table or the fact that there was no sign that the tools were recently sterilized. (I prefer nail places that open the sterilized bag of clean tools in front of me). Not to mention that the nail tech did nothing to soften my cuticles and then ended up cutting my skin. Additionally, Shellac should last more than 4/5 days, mine did not. By Friday morning, both of my thumb nails were chipped. We were out of town so I went back to have my nails fixed Tuesday (day 9) since the cut near my cuticle wasn't even healed yet I figured it was fair to ask for them to fix the now FIVE chipping nails. They fixed them at no cost. However, now one of the ones that was just fixed has a crack across the entire nail. I'm not oblivious to the negative reviews for Touch but it seemed like such a cute place that I wanted to see for myself. We all have a bad day from time to time so maybe the reviewer(s) were wrong. I think Touch did a nice job. Read my other reviews, I don't mind putting down a scathing review when warranted but it's not. I had a gel fill for hands, and a gel polish change for my toesies. Different staff for each. The gel fill was straight up, excellent work. I could tell by the way she drilled this wasn't her first rodeo. She was quick. No cuts. Just the way I like it. I didn't even have to watch her. Clearly a pro. Wish I'd gotten her name so that I can request her help in the future. The polish change was a new one for me. I didn't want the expense of a gel pedicure so I asked about options. A gel polish change means dry filing off your existing gel polish. That was no fun especially because I have odd shaped toes (Seriously: who doesn't? There are 7 of you in the planet.) Anyway I wasn't fond of that step but buck up, buttercup. I got through it. I went yesterday for a French tip. I showed an inspiration photo to my nail tech who immediately was rude and said she wasn't able to do the shape I wanted since it was "too late" even though she had just put on the tip extenders. When she finished it was not what I was expecting at all. I didn't want to make a scene so I went to the front desk and said I wasn't happy and showed her my inspiration photo. She turned to the nail tech that had done my nails and said something to her when she started yelling at me and calling me stupid. I kept calm and said she was being very rude and she said "No I'm not. That's what you asked for and that's what I gave you" then turned to the next client she had and said "can you believe this girl?" Eventually another nail tech said the owner would be able to do my nails the next day free of charge but I will need to pay right then. It's the next day and my fingernails are still throbbing from yesterday. I've gone to this place since 2004 and have never had such a horrible experience and never had such a horrible experience at any other business or company ever for anything. The nail tech should have asked how could she help to make it better or given me a refund. If she wasn't able to do what I asked for then I would have been fine seeing a different nail tech. It was very unprofessional to call me stupid and yell at me in front of other clients and bring them into our conversation which should have been calm and private. It makes it harder for people to speak up when paying for a service and they don't like the end result. If the nail techs believe it is okay to speak to clients in this fashion, no one will want to ever speak up about how they aren't satisfied for something they are paying money for. Things run behind and I totally get it but to still keep bringing people in to tell them just a few minutes and make them wait makes no sense. I thought they did a great job!! I honestly showed up late by 5 minutes (which, is a complete jerk move by me) and they were still very accommodating and pleasant. I originally arranged just for a pedicure but ended up getting my first dip manicure. Loving both!! I was having a hard time deciding on which pedicure to go with and I settled on VOESH Pedicure. Which is a package 4 step system, I went with the Olive and it smelled great. It came with a scrub and leg massage with hot stones and hot towels. I picked a finicky polish that went on slightly streaky but she made it work and look beautiful. My first dip manicure. I chose from the many, many colors while finishing my pedicure. I choose this neutral but stunning grey. I thought I would have to have long nails but, I get to keep my very short nails. I love it!! I've been here before (in 2013) and happened upon its yelp page perusing. I was surprised to see such a low rating because I remember being very pleased with my pedicure. My sister (I'll add, my very picky, somewhat demanding, germaphobe sister) swears by this place. I love going here. It is the only nail place that I always feel comfortable with. I will admit I am easily intimidated by places where I don't know what to do and feel out of place at. That being said nail places are usually my worst nightmare. The language barrier and the fact that I don't know what they are doing most of the time is like panic attack fertilizer. Every time I walk in the door here they are very sweet and say "hi, two pedicures?" YES! exactly, whew! One step down. Then they always tell me to pick a color and point to the wall with the colors on it. THANK YOU! (seriously why do most nail places just stare at you and expect you to know their system?) They are very good about nudging your legs and feet and pointing to where they want you to put them so I never find myself saying "what was that? here? oh there? In the water? Sorry...umm...uhh" The inside is very clean and modern. The chairs for pedicures are clean and really nice. The massagers aren't just the ones that vibrate you until you itch all over. And the chairs move forward and back for those of us whos feet don't quite make it to the other side of the water bin. As I said the girls are always very sweet and never make me feel stupid so I don't mind asking them to show me how to get the chair to rub my back again. My feet are always much happier and prettier when I leave. I have never had any issues with infections or anything like that. I always go in as a walk-in and there have been a few times before that I can tell they are pretty busy and I may not get as much attention and time as I would on slow days but I have never been turned down. And I usually use going there as a good excuse to hit Ming Ten upstairs on my way out. read more

While my toes do look nice, there are other places that are friendlier and will provide the same service in a more customer-focused way. A group of 5 of us had a reservation for Tuesday night pedicure. There was no greeting or hello to any of us, rather a rude point towards the paint polish wall to pick our colors and then we were hustled into the pedicure chairs. My water was lukewarm, while my friends water was scolding hot and in each instance, there was no effort made to adjust the water to be more comfortable. The chairs are old and the massage feature was broken. I wish I had taken a picture of the chairs: They were a dingy lime green and looked like something that would electrocute you. There was no conversation between the nail tech and myself, rather she chatted the entire time with the girl next to her. I take that back; the only time she talked to me was to ask if I wanted to upgrade to the salt scrub. I declined. She rolled her eyes and went back to chatting. I didn't receive much of a leg massage and she seemed to want to skip the foot buffing. I had to ask her to do that part. She rolled her eyes again and gave me a few half-hearted back and forths with the buffer. To be fair, the polish did go on well. My nails are glossy and chip-free. The entire pedicure was about 30 minutes. It was nice that it was quick but there was no 'thank you' for coming in. The women who checked us seemed put off that she had to get up from gabbing with the other nail techs to help us. There were other women in the salon, so maybe regulars or individual customers get higher quality service, but I was not impressed with my first group visit here. read more

On a spur of the moment, we decided to treat the whole family to Pedis - hubby, son and two daughters, so five of us altogether. We were waiting to see a movie and had time to kill, so this seemed like a fun thing to do. When we walked in, we immediately loved the soft tropical green color painted on the walls and the brighter matching shade of all the pedi recliners. The warm and slightly humid temps added to the tropical feel of the place, in a good way. Coming in out of the cold March weather, we loved it. I was scared about this place after reading the reviews, but I couldn't find any good nail salons near me that did acrylic nails, so I went anyways. Every other time I have had an acrylic set it started off like an actual manicure, aka with hand washing, nail soaks, etc. This nail technician immediately went into drilling/buffing the surface of my nails, then the gluing on tips. When she asked what shape I wanted and I responded with oval, she told me it would be three dollars more. I had never been charged more for a nail shape, but I said okay and then she put the acrylic gel directly over my buffed still dusty nails. I immediately got worried that my nails wouldn't last as long as they should and here I am less than a week later (5 days to be exact) with two (almost three) of my nails already lifting, which is highly disappointing. They do a great job on both manicures and pedicures, I have never tried any of the other services. Prices are fair for the quality of the service you receive. I had a great pedicure from the girl that did my nails. Everything seemed sanitary which I am most picky about with nail salons (other than the quality of service). I got a fill and gel done on my nails and the chick BOTCHED me. Cut EVERY single finger with her drill and didn't even smooth out the acrylic that was seeped into the sides. I asked her to file it to smooth it out and she claimed it was "my skin". I usually do my own nails but I'm 39 weeks pregnant and decided to get pampered for ONCE and this crap happens. On top of that, she didn't have me wash my hands before putting on the gel so she painted over the top of it which made the gel bumpy and inconsistent. My mom did get her nails done at the same time and the guy that did her nails did a wonderful job. So my advice is to speak up or ask for someone different if you can tell the service is going bad or the tech is hurting you. If I go back, I'll make sure as hell I won't be getting the same woman.
